The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It did the trick. He made himself an ass, she got over the weirdness that she couldn't quite process. They moved on. Jude gave a scrawny armed flex just for good measure. Juuust incase she wasn't laughing hard enough already.
His wings reacted to her touch, an involuntary flick and shudder from her light touch as if she were a fly or bug. Jude tried to still himself so she could pet them to her satisfaction.
<Uhhh. Right. Forgot you can do that.> How did he forget? He'd stabbed his team leader as a result. <Yeah, I guess so? I don't exactly get a field manual.>
Think crystal thoughts? As usual, for a first time with a new power, it didn't exactly do what he expected. Or maybe he hadn't actually wanted to?
Her instructions for flying were just as helpful as his power. He held up a hand to block the extra breeze, but tried to seriously watch her movements. It was just... flapping. So, she just had to flap.
Jude stretched the black feathered wings out again. Step 1, he could actually feel them. It was just that it was like getting an extra set of arms all of a sudden. He wasn't 100% sure how to make them do what he'd wanted.
They went up and down a couple times until it began to feel less rigid. Astrid helpfully made room. Jude flapped a bit harder and got the same whuff of breeze Astrid had generated. He did that again and again until he, too, got some lift.
<Know any place cool closeby?> Yeah. Definitely going to be sore tomorrow.

Astrid let her feet dangle as she hung in the air in front of Jude. She was watching carefully as he did his best to take off from the balcony of their new residence.
Typically, Astrid just took off flying. She didn't think about the movements at all or how strange it would be for someone else to try to replicate them. Other people didn't think about walking or talking, just as she didn't think as she beat her wings behind her. It was just a natural, habitual movement that she'd learned to perfect over the years.
Her shoulders were the most muscular part of her body by a long shot. She was wiry and thin through and through, but her shoulders were the only part of her body that packed anything extra. She had never really thought about it, but to someone else who didn’t spend all their time flying, it would be taxing to work muscles that hadn’t been built up like hers had. Curiously, she turned her head to flex her own shoulders before looking back at Jude.
Still, it would be cool if he got all her powers. If he was able to turn his wings to crystal, then they could do so many cool things together. They could go out, and really make the people that they hated suffer. She just needed to wait for him to get a hang of things. Then, she would present the idea.
>><Know any place cool closeby?>
<Uhm,> Astrid screwed her face up distractedly as she thought. It was so strange watching someone else take off with her wings; with her features. It was hard to think of anything.
Eventually, she thought of something. <Follow me,> Astrid nodded and took off in the other direction, not waiting to see whether he would be able to keep up.
He was glad she chose a direction, hovering took an awful lot of flapping. Once they were on the move, flight turned out to be a lot simpler. Jude worked to gain altitude with Astrid, his shirt was nothing more than a double loop on his arm. Easy enough for a guy to go topless. He'd really never considered the ramifications on wings and girl clothing.
Jude decided right then to be nicer to Astrid, just for the fact that her wings, her eyes never went away. He also decided to bury that niceness so deep down into sarcasm that she might never notice. It wouldn't be worth it if she figured it out.
"Heeeey, I thought you said it was close." He nagged. In mid air. Despite the nagging, they were still suspended above the city streets and looking at the world in the visible spectrum and abso-freakin-lutely flying.
He'd done it before. He'd do it again. It was still nothing short of mutant magic.
The windows winked quick flashes of sunlight and two teenage reflections. They tucked between buildings and sent hanging plants swinging in their wake. He couldn't fly too close, their wings were both massive and outstretched. He didn't dare jeopardize this when they were so high up above all the little people.

They flew over New York City, taking in the view as they went. For Astrid, it was nothing more than an average night spent using her ability, but it was clear that it was something more for Jude. He didn't get the same luxury of getting to fly whenever he wanted to; he had to wait until someone gave him the ability. Of course, he also got to walk around and act like he wasn't a mutant whenever he wanted to, but Astrid was focusing on the positives for once.
The wind whipped around them as they went, blocking the sound that came from Jude's mouth. It sounded like it was in English, anyway. Astrid ignored him. She continued to fly onward, overtop of buildings and landmarks, straight toward the mass of water that separated Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Eventually, they came to a plexiglass water tower on top of an iron structure, facing out onto the Hudson. There wasn't any actual water in it, but it was strong enough to support the weight of a person or two. At least, Astrid hoped that it was. It was a million different colours of glass pieced together to create something beautiful yet functional, lit up inside by a light at the top. Tourists occasionally came to see it, but most of the time, it just there. She'd never been bothered while sitting on top of it, especially facing seaward.
Astrid had never brought anyone there before, mostly because she had no one to bring, but also because she'd never wanted anyone to know that she loved something so colourful. Yes, loved. It was her favourite spot in the city, and there was nothing dreary or destructive about it. It was truly beautiful.
She circled for a moment before landing on top, taking a perch near the edge so that her feet could dangle off the edge. The illuminated water reflected onto her pale skin, creating colourful patterns on the blank canvas.

She had found something awesome and she knew it. Jude had to hand it to Astrid, she wasn't some paper cut out of a swindling, stabby teen like he'd first thought. She blushed, she found delight in pretty things, she had danced with him in the middle of the street from a brief moment once upon a time.
<Incredible.> He admitted from yet another clumsy passing circle. <It'll be more incredible if I can sit on it without breaking either one of us.>
He desperately wanted to rest his shoulders and wings, but the water tower looked fragile and with a slightly slanted and small-ish roof, he wasn't the most confident in making the effortless touchdown that Astrid had.
<Worst case scenario I miss, hit that billboard, fall to my death, and bounce into the Hudson never to be heard from again.>
Right. Enough joking. It was time to do or die trying.
Jude tried to take his approach as slowly as possible which meant he dropped a bit faster than he was expecting. He did land on the water tower, but he had to crunch his legs up and attempt a few jolting steps which instead resulted in him hitting his knees and momentum carried him forward until he caught himself with his hands. In the end, Jude appeared to be bowing down at Astrid's back. But— Hey. He didn't fall down dead, never to be heard from again.
<That's gonna take practice.> He shuffled himself around until his legs dangled off the roof as well. Only then did he notice the sun had finished setting and their shared seat was illuminated and painting them and the area around in a patchwork of multicolored lights.
Jude breathed in and then out in a long controlled breath. It was... nice. Weirdly peaceful, actually.
<You come here a lot?> He had to shuffle the wings in order to lean back on his hands, but it was worth it. His back was already killing him.

As terrible as Jude had been with the takeoff, he was even worse trying to land. He circled for a little bit after she had landed, talking about how there would be worst case scenarios and failure that would ensue. All that she wanted to see was him tumble off the side so she could laugh about it.
She was sitting with her feet dangling off the edge, giggling hysterically as he made a horrible landing. Astrid had turned around in order to watch him fail, only to see him with her head bowed down facing her back. It was priceless. <Do you suck this much with all of your powers?>
He didn’t suck with the healing, but that one was probably easy to get a hang of. You just put your hand on somewhere that was wounded and then heal it. That didn’t really sound hard. Something interesting, though, like turning into a giant shrimp, was probably funny to watch.
<You need so much practice. That was horrible,> Astrid laughed at him.
>><You come here a lot?>
Astrid felt herself get suddenly defensive of her secret space. Why on earth had she shown him this spot? Now she was probably going to have to fight him for it, and she would have nowhere for herself ever again. Her wings and back got tense as she considered an answer.
<No,> she lied, her voice snapping in the cool wind. She wasn’t a good liar.
<Some come easy, some require build up. Bet you sucked the first flight too, smart*ss.>
Her teasing him about needing practice was fun and easy, though. Through the years he'd been the butt of so many jokes, it'd be weird to not be the class clown now. Besides, her admitting that he needed practice was as good as he`r admitting she'd be around enough for him to nab her power and get that practice.
Uuuunless she got all weird again. Jude made sure to head off any attempts at Astrid feeling feelings about anything but what was fun and light and easy. Jude wasn't about to make the mistake of ever falling in like or worse, maybe ever again.
<Godd*amn I'm so mature. You're being a big butt face and I'm just so cool that I can hardly stand it.>
He swung his legs like the big manchild he knew he was being. People expected it of him. It was easy to fall into that role.
<I won't bother you here, if that's what you're getting uppy about. I couldn't even come here without a neat little high five first, right?> A little white lie to assuage the crow-child's fears. He could and would take her power without her permission or any high fiving. He'd just probably use it for the most mundane things since it was showy and made him a big, fat dumb target. Some powers were just plain useless.

In all honestly, Astrid couldn’t remember her first ever flight. She’d learned it along with walking, and she really didn’t remember doing so. She’d probably sucked, but she also would have been a toddler. It wasn’t fair to say that she sucked. She simply shrugged at the implication.
Jude, on the other hand, was a full grown man-boy, and he could walk and talk and do all the things that a people could do. It was funny to see him struggling like that. Very, very funny.
He sat next to her, which made her suddenly tense up. He quickly informed her that he didn’t have any plans to steal her secret spot, which made her feel a little better. Astrid didn’t want to have to share with anyone, even if he was the only person that she felt like she could talk to in a very long time. Her muscles loosened and she tugged her mouth to the side and thought about whether she could deem him trustworthy or not.
<I go everywhere,> she shrugged. That was the truth, really. Before Honeycomb, her only permanent location had been the Ragnarok housing area, and even then it was pretty lonely, so she didn’t tend to stay there long. She spent most of her days roaming the streets. <I play in the park for money sometimes, but mostly I just wander.>
There wasn’t much to do for an out of work teen that was avoiding the government.
