The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Cait could see Astrid contemplating something out of the corner of her eye. What see wouldn't give to see inside that delightful mind, catch a glimpse at how she saw the world. The Scot had a sneaky suspicion the weren't all that much different, but she still couldn't help but be curious.
Her dad had always told her, you could teach a musician many things, but enthusiasm wasn't one of them. That was the most important thing, he had said. Looking at the excited young woman, so happy to just be playing and she finally understood what he'd meant. Astrids' cheery nature was contagious, not that she could be in a bad mood at the moment, it would take a monster to be grumpy with the two of them in one room.
Returning the bright smile she'd gotten and brining her own violin up to her chin, she counted in with Astrid before launching into the melody, starting with the long held note after the rest. Throwing in some vibrato on each held note, adding a strong mournful sound to the song.
It was such a wonderful song to play, the two instruments complimenting each other perfectly. The low notes mixed with the melody she was playing, becoming greater than either could be on their own.
The rise and fall, played together, soaring up for just a second before coming back down, it was like the music was playing with more than sound. The tone they set would move emotions, manipulate them to compliment the music.
If there was one thing that made a musician good, it was passion. In that moment, the room was filled with not one, but two passionate musicians, which made for incredible sound. Violin music sounded throughout the little office and somehow was able to make its way throughout the hallway and the little space that they had rented, despite the terrible acoustics.
There was no denying that they sounded good.
Despite the fact that it was their first read-through of the piece, it seemed to just work. Any missed notes or incorrect rhythms just seemed to blend into the sound, covered by the vibrato of the more experienced musician. Astrid just wished that life could always be like that; peaceful, beautiful, and good.
Unfortunately, the song, as all good things did, came to an end. Astrid could see the double bar line a page before they'd even reached it, and it made her heart sink. They were running short on time, and they had already done most of the things that Cait had promised her. The teen just hoped that they could make it a regular thing rather than a one-off.
As the song cadenced, Astrid lowered her bow and her violin so that they would once again sit in her lap. Despite her relative disappointment that it was finished, Astrid still beamed at her mentor and gave her the most enthusiasm she possibly could.
"Thank you very much for playing with me. It was lovely."
Cait really didn't want the song to end, but as the last note faded, she knew they were done. It wasn't fair that she felt sad after such an amazing experience, even if it was the last they could play today. God it got annoying have her life ran by have too much to do and far too little time to get everything done. Even the really important things, like playing music with a friend.
"My pleasure Astrid, it was so much fun to play with you," she smiled warmly at her musical companion. Who could give up an opportunity like this?
Slowly packing away her violin and gathering up her various sheets of music, she couldn't help but start the cogs in her head trying to find her next little bit of free space when they could do this again. Astrid was so much fun to hang out with, but with missions and work it was like there was never a good time for them to get together.
"We have to do this again dear, playing with you was just so wonderful. Oh and the fluffiness," she added with a smile, "was utterly delightful."
It might be over, but she wasn't leaving without a hug. Damnit she'd earned one, even if she had gotten distracted with those soft wings. Holding out her arms towards Astrid, and getting a very enthusiastic hug in reply, her day was officially perfect. Nothing could top this.
