The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Emily sat on the bed, listening to the hum of the shower and stewing in her own thoughts, about what it was that could be making Kendra so apprehensive over her. Was she THAT bad last night? She somehow didn't think so... Though, she wasn't terribly experienced either so maybe... Ugh, it was really confusing.
At least, that was until Kendra stepped out of the bathroom. Huh. She barely even took note of the other girl's emotions, focusing entirely on what was up with her body. They knew how each other's powers worked, which meant that after the two of them had finished for the evening and fallen asleep she'd... snuck out somewhere and gotten herself beaten to a bloody pulp....
Emily's reaction went through a few phases, surprise, curiosity, and annoyance.
"I'm not even sure I want to know what was going through your mind when you got yourself into that state." She stated simply. "What. The. ****, Kendra."
For a moment she was stunned. She opened the door and walked right into a tough conversation that she hadn't even really prepared herself for. Kendra instinctively pulled the towel up over her bruise trying to cover it from sight, but that wasn't really helping. There were other marks. Ones she couldn't hide no matter how bad she wanted to. She started to say something, but the words never came out. Her mouth hung open in frustrated aspiration and she just blinked.
The situation could have been better and what was worse. Emily was probably sitting out here listening to her feeling and silently trying to figure out what was wrong. Kendra felt her heart sinking. It wasn't a very nice feeling. She suddenly felt like a disappointment. She felt foolish and worst of all she felt guilt. Yeah she had gotten her but kicked last night, but she had also helped someone. Someone who almost well... Kendra didn't want to think about what almost would of happened to that poor woman if she hadn't came along. Still, she had gone out looking for trouble and she found it.
Kendra could tell that Emily wasn't pleased. She didn't like that look on her face. One side of Kendra's mouth pushed up in an apologetic smirk. Her wet hair clung to her bare shoulders as she moved across the room to the bed and sat down. She sat a little ways way from Emily. From the tone of her voice she could tell that she wasn't happy, but she didn't know how upset yet. Emily's poker face was better than hers apparently. Kendra wasn't a good liar. Even if she was Emily would sense it. So she came out with the truth.
"Well...." She started. Man this was going to be hard to explain in a way that didn't sound crazy. "I took'a walk last night. After we fella sleep. Just mostly wanted to clear my head'ofa feew thangs and step out into the city. I wanted to do somethang good. Was looking to maybe ..... I don't know be like one of the X-Men. Use my stupid gift for somethang useful for'a change." Kendra's voice trailed off.
Her eyes danced around Emily's face looking for any sign of forgiveness, understanding. She didn't quite understand it herself. She just wanted to do something good. She wasn't even sure what had spurred this along, but she felt like she could help people with her powers. And being in the mansion had made her realize that it was more possible than she thought. She wasn't trained or very graceful so of course she had taken a wallop, and half of her injuries resulted from her own clumsiness but still. It was reckless. It was dumb. "I'm sorry, don't be mad at me. I slipped out early this morning because I didn't want'chu to see me like this, but I saved a woman's life last night Em. I saved her." She didn't say another word. She held her breath and waited until Emily said something though she wasn't terribly excited to hear the lecture that was sure to follow.

Emily really didn't know how to respond to Kendra standing there beyond her already on going freakout and cursing. She looked up at her girlfriend's face, studying it. There was something reflected there.. Her emotions were mixed. Was she trying to hide things from Emily? Then the story started to come out, all in a rapid burst.
She frowned at Kendra. She didn't know that the other girl had such a desire for justice hidden underneath the surface. How could she have not known that? She'd shared a bed with her... She shared all of her feelings, and she could sense all of Kendra's deeper emotions on top of that, but she didn't know about this....
She wasn't a telepath, obviously. She could see into people's minds that way, only extrapolate things from their emotions. But... Kendra was her girlfriend, and Emily had been fairly sure that she'd been falling for the other girl. She was very very good with other people's emotions and how to move and dance around them, but often not so good with her own...
It took her a few moments to register what was actually going on. She was upset. She was annoyed with Kendra for not having shared these feelings with her, and she was upset with herself for not being good enough to find out about it, and not being a good enough girlfriend to figure it out on her own.
"I...." She took a deep breath. Trying to bat down her emotions, she responded after a few beats. "Well, I'm glad to hear that somebody was not assaulted, even if it looks like you were." She began, emotions heavy in her tone. "But I'll repeat. What. The. ****."
Her anger flared, anger at herself, anger at Kendra. Anger that she hadn't woken up when she sensed Kendra's powered form leave. "You keep your phone with you every night don't you? Couldn't you... Call the cops? Or freak him out with your voice? Or get anyone else nearby to come and help?" She continued. "The X-men, and the Cops for that matter are trained to professional standard, look what happened to you..." She gently ran a finger along the other girl's lips.

Kendra hadn't tried to keep this from Emily. Honestly she didn't even give it much thought until recently. She had heard about some of the amazing things the X-Men had done from someone around the mansion. She was killing time waiting for Emily to get out of a class and she had heard these stories. These amazing stories of mutants standing up for other mutants and for justice. It honestly inspired her. Kendra herself wanted to try out for the X-Men, but she had to know first if she had what it took.
She had started a few nights ago slipping out for nightly vigilante endeavors. She hadn't found any trouble until last night though. She had gotten her ass kicked, but it was mostly her fault. Her own stupidity that had caused her injuries. She felt from a fire escape and busted up her ribs because she was clumsy. She tripped over a trash can letting the attack know where she was to choke her. All things that could have been easily avoided. Next time I won't make those mistakes. She thought. Is there going to be a next time? She looked at her girlfriend's face. She still looked pissed.
"I..." She started but quickly got cut off with Emily demanding once again just what in the hell she was thinking. She could have called the police or tried to scar the guys off she supposed, but she had done it. She had made a difference in someone's life. Sitting there now thinking about that moment of helping someone she couldn't help but have an undertone of pride swelling up inside her. It was stupid and reckless, but she was proud that she had for once in her life not been ashamed of who she was. So often her gift seemed more like a curse, but she had actually used it to help someone.
Kendra dared to look Emily in the face when she touched her lip. The yelling had apparently stopped. She didn't like feeling like a disappointment in the eyes of her girlfriend. "I'm sorry Em." She said softly. She didn't mean to freak her out or scare her but she wasn't going to give up on the idea of being an X. As much as it freaked Emily out the idea of her getting hurt she didn't want to give up on that feeling of pride knowing that she had made a difference. "I want to try out for the X-Men." She finally said. Her eyes casted down to the floor waiting for the yelling again. Kendra reached out and grabbed Emily's hand. "Let's not fight ok? I won't go out looking to play vigilante anymore. Not until I'm trained ok?" It was the best she could offer she only hoped that her girlfriend could sense how important it was to her. She had always wanted to do something to make the world a better place for mutants and humans alike.

All kinds of confusing emotions swirled around Emily, as her own mixed with what she was getting from Kendra, she was finding it harder and harder to keep her cool as she looked at the red haired dame, covered in bruises that probably ached more than anything Emily had to deal with on a daily basis. She just couldn't fathom why Kendra hadn't said anything to her, on top of that she'd snuck out.
She bit her lip pretty hard. "Kendra..." She didn't even know where to find the words to move across her feelings. "I... I can't believe you didn't even tell me you felt this way, or that this was something that you were doing." There was some fairly obvious hurt in her voice, even to somebody without her abilities. "You don't trust me that much, to tell me that you want to go out and help people like that?..." She trailed off.
She shook herself off. It was frustrating how emotional the other girl made her, she could feel something wet in the corner of her eyes and tried to shake it off before it formed into actual tears. She gently reached out and tipped the girl's gaze up to hers, giving her a weak smile. "Ok." She paused. "Promise me you won't do this until you've gotten training to look after yourself and..." She took a little gulp. "And I'll give you my full support." She promised.

Kendra stood there. Her face a war of guilt and pain. She hurt far worse from the sound of Emily's wavering voice than any physical pain she was in. Those wounds healed easy.... She watched as sorrow slow danced in Emily's eye until she had to look away. She just had to look at anything other than that sheer disappointment. It wasn't like she was intentionally keeping it from her. She had always had this desire to help people. This need to help the mutant cause. She had just always helped in a different way.
Kendra was a photographer for a magazine back home called The Divide. A publication that focused on mutant rights issues. She supplied a good number of the photographs for it's readers. In her own small way she had always been helping the mutant cause. Though up until recently her involvement was far more passive. She didn't believe she could make any other difference until she came to the mansion and started to learn more about the X-Men and what they did. She wasn't an official part of the team, but she felt as if she were part of it in spirit. Like she had something to prove not only to them, but to herself.
Kendra's eyes darted away to the floor. The painful penance of her actions was the searing look that Emily had gave her and that pitiful wavering hurt voice that broke Kendra's heart. She couldn't believe it when she felt a gentle hand raising her chin. She didn't look at first. Her head turned to face Emily, but her eyes did not follow. Until the words ok came out. Kendra looked cautiously. She could see the difference in her girlfriend's face. It was acceptance?
She said she had her support if she got training. Well, that shouldn't be to hard right? Still she couldn't help but think that Emily wasn't 100% on board with the idea. Kendra looked like she got in a fight with a professional wrestler in a steel cage. She wasn't graceful and she wasn't a competent fighter. All she had was invisibility and the use of her teleport. She could control her teleport good enough to be hard to pin down, but she didn't have anything else in her bag of tricks. She had to learn how to fight it was that simple. "Will you train with me?" She asked cautiously.
Kendra wanted her girlfriend to know how to fight too just in case something happened god forbid. To be completely honest, any excuse to spend time with Emily was ok with her. She found herself absentmindedly rubbing at her arm. The sheepish, timid look long left her bright curious eyes. Kendra was serious. If Emily wanted her to train, she wanted Emily to train too. After all she was a mutant as well. The world wasn't ALWAYS safe for mutants. Anything could happen. Kendra began to relax. The guilt was gradually fading and replaced by a cautious optimism that filled her quickly. She even smiled a little. Sparring session with the girlfriend? It could be fun right?

Emily battled with some internal conflict as Kendra's emotions radiated off from her in waves. She hadn't really meant to make Kendra feel so much pain and conflict... Had she? Her Girlfriend was a sweet woman with mostly good intentions in as many cases as Emily could see but... Hadn't she? She wasn't above feeling hurt, and although she wasn't as good with her emotions as she was with other's, she was definitely feeling all kinds of upset over this.
Was this her lashing back out against Kendra because she'd hurt her?
No... Not entirely at least. She was in the right in this situation, mostly at the very least. Kendra had hurt her via her actions, and she'd also hurt herself. And it was just naive of her to think that it was a good idea to jump out and get herself into danger like that without training. For christ's sake, she had a phone with her at all times. How hard was it to freak out the people and act like a ghost, and phone cops?
Why did she have to get physical? Why'd she have to hide all this from Emily?
Emily tilted her head a little confused. "I'm not sure how much I could do, and I'm not exactly a shining physical specimen, but if you want me to of course." She hesitated. "I didn't exactly hear a promise or emotional conformation from you there Kendra..." She murmured.
Kendra's shoulders slumped. She fell from a fire escape and landed on her ribs. She was choked by a criminal and punched in the jaw, but leave it to your girl friend to put the biggest hurting on you. "I promise." Kendra said sounded a little like a a child who was told they couldn't go outside to play.
She had agreed to train with her though. That was good. At the very least Kendra would feel a little better knowing that Emily knew how to protect herself too. As far as her nightly escapades through the streets of New York, that was done. She wouldn't be going out looking for trouble. She had given her word and that was something she didn't take lightly.
Kendra would soon find herself getting her but kicked in a different way. Danger room training. She wasn't even familiar with the danger room here. She hadn't heard anyone talk about it, but that was the best type of training available here at the mansion. Before she got to that though, she wanted to start learning a few of the basics. Like basic movement. Yeah she could teleport great! But also it took concentration, effort. It didn't matter if you were an invisible teleporter if you telegraphed all your moves.
She had been teleporting invisible in that alley against the muggers but she charged at them like a mad woman and announced her presence. That's how she found tight fingers slowly squeezing the breath out of her lungs. Kendra smiled at Emily. She was right. Of course she was right and justified to be angry with her. Kendra was not only in awe of Emily, she was starting to blush. Kendra wasn't an empath, but she knew that she was so angry because she actually really cared about her. It was one of the first times in her life that someone actually cared enough to get angry with her over something like this.
Kendra slowly came to that realization and her smile grew wider. Emily still had the slightly mad look on her face hen Kendra leaned in unexpected ly and kissed the softness of her lips. It was only a peck, but it was really sweet that she worried and she was overtaken by the idea. The urge to kiss her just leapt up and grabbed her so she seized the moment. "Let me throw somethang on right quick." She said with that usual southern drawl.
Kendra grabbed a shirt and a pair of jeans and her sneakers and looked at Emily. She wasn't bashful about getting changed in front of her, but she was nervous about her seeing how bad the bruise on her ribs was. Turning around, she dropped the towel and quickly pulled the shirt down over her slender frame. She was careful to angle her body so that it wasn't facing Emily. She quickly slipped on the jeans and fresh undergarments. She hoped seeing the bruises in better detail didn't get her another scolding. Kendra tried her best to smile innocently at her girlfriend. Just to reassure her she promised again. "I promise I ain't gone go lookin for no trouble. You have my word."

Another advantage to being an Empath is you knew where was a good point to start or stop scolding, because you could feel the emotional reaction of the person you were talking to, and could tell if you'd pushed them too far or if they'd accepted what you were explaining to them. In this case, Kendra could tell she'd hurt Emily just as much as she'd managed to hurt herself by doing this, and she was repentant.
She felt a smile quirking at the corner of her lips as Kendra was admiring her, culminating in a kind of blush on an emotional and physical level. She smiled wider at her girlfriend and gave her a kiss on the cheek as she turned away to get dressed. Emily moved over and sat on the edge of the bed, observing her girlfriend's body as she tried to turn away. Emily had already come to terms with the injuries, there was no point in hiding them from her now.
She hid a wince as she saw how bashed Kendra's ribs were and sucked in a little through her teeth. As the redheaded dame finished pulling on the shirt and undergarments, Emily handed her some looser fitting trousers and smiled reassuringly. Well, what she hoped was a reassuring smile.
"Thank you." She replied softly. Giving her girlfriend a very gentle kiss on the lips before softly grasping her fingers. "We should take you to the Doctor. You might get another scolding, but I hear he's a healer, so that might be better than you walking around wincing every step." She suggested, very softly.
Moving downstairs with Emily Kendra didn't say much. She was glad that she had that burden off her chest. She felt awful keeping that to herself and for the most part; Emily seemed to be understanding. She didn't like the idea of going behind her girlfriend's back. Kendra reached down despite the pain shooting in her ribs and grasped Emily's hand. It was soft and warm inside her own, it was calming and reassuring as they made their way to see Doc Professor.
Pushing open the door she saw one other kid waiting to be seen. He seemed to be fairly alright except for a cut on his face. Kendra quietly wondered if everyone came here for every bump and bruise. Must be pretty tough on the old Doc to be patching up every little minor complaint. Kendra found a seat and gently lowered herself into it. The plastic back of the chair hard and ridged against her tender back. Her soft eyes moved over to Emily who seemed to be taking the whole thing in stride, though Kendra wasn't an empath. She didn't know what her girlfriend was truly feeling. Is she really ok with all of this? Kendra thought quietly. She thought she saw a touch of a smile gracing Emily's lips. That only made them seem more kissable, though she resisted the urge to seize them with her own once more. Instead, she opted to sit quietly and wait.
The Doc came out and offered Kendra a warm smile, before nodding in the direction of the boy. The boy stood up and walked over into Doc's office to be seen and Kendra watched with great interest. She wasn't sure how this whole healing thing worked. He was most certainly a mutant with a healing ability, but the thought of someone who could do that kind of blew her away. Not any crazier than the things she could do, she mused quietly. "Sit down and wait with me." She said softly as her eyes moved from the closing office door back to her girlfriend who was standing just inside the room. It was probably nothing, but Kendra was the type to read into everything. If Emily said she would prefer to stand Kendra would internally take that to mean she still had some problem with all of this. Despite saying otherwise, to Kendra that would mean something. Body language isn't always an exact science but it was fairly reliable.
Kendra was always the type of girl to be inside her own head. Her brain ping ponging around from thought to thought. She was just your garden variety classic over thinker. Kendra watched Emily carefully. She said she was ok with her doing this if she decided that she wanted to and got the proper training. Kendra was giving serious thought to giving it up all together. She was still going to train. That could still be useful, but the whole vigelante thing lost it's appeal when it hurt the ones you cared about. Kendra wasn't sure what she was going to do. She sat there quietly a moment as her request for Emily to sit still lingered in the air. Her brown eyes filled with regret, remorse, gratitude and apology. The matter had been settled, but she was still bein eaten away at by guilt.
Emily's what's important. She thought to herself biting her lip. She would give all this fighting crime nonsense up in a heart beat. It didn't matter. It was important work, but she didn't have to be the one to do it. She could step away and leave it into more capable hands if it came to that. At the end of the day, she just wanted to help. Maybe she could find a different way to do that. One that didn't get her nearly killed by her lack of experience or general clumsiness.

Emily didn't say much on the walk down. She wanted to reach over and squeeze her nervous girlfriend's hand for reassurance but firstly she wasn't entirely sure which pats of her hurt, and which parts didn't. And then there was the fact that if she was being entirely honest with herself... She was still kind of mad. Still seething, really. But Emily was pretty good at controlling herself once she recognised an emotion in herself.
Emily had never actually met the Doctor herself, she tended to avoid injuries. And she relied more on an inordinate amount of painkillers for her headaches than mutants. She didn't need to be around judgmental medical professional emotions, no thank you. She'd much rather rely on her best friend Mr Jack Daniels and some glorious cola.
She was glancing at the doorway suspiciously, trying really hard to suppress emotions from herself and the others around her, before she realised she'd left Kendra hanging a few moments. Blinking a few times she sat down next to Kendra. "Sorry love, I just spaced out there somewhat." She replied softly before the Doctor came out and took the other student into his office to be seen to. She couldn't help but read him and... He was warm.
It actually took her aback a little bit. That a mutant who dealt with so much pain could be so kind and gentle.
Kendra ached all over. Her throat burned lightly from the air lightly kissing the bruises around her neck. Every breathe she took caused her ribs to stretch sending a dull ache through her side. The rest of her just felt like one big pin cushion. Little jolts of stinging pain hit her here or there all over. It was a wonder she was able to fake such a beautiful smile. Though her smile was always beautiful, fake or not. Kendra was smiling because Emily sat down beside her. Her burdened mind just a little less burdened she still watched to make sure everything was ok. Her smile was fake, it was unsure.
The door swung open and the Doc patted the boy aon the shoulder lightly as they both stepped out. "Next time stay away from the 50-50 grinds and careful how much you rip it up on that skateboard." The old man laughed with a hearty laugh. That was it? He was patching up scrapes from a fall off a skateboard? Well, at least he wasn't selfish with his gifts. The boy smiled and said that he would try, but he couldn't promise anything and quickly bounded out the room. A bell rang out through the mansion signifying the end of one class and the beginning of another. Kendra wondered if Emily was missing any classes by being here but she didn't rightly care. She was glad that she was here.
The Doc turned his attention to Emily and Kendra. Turned his attention to Emdra and smiled. "Who's next? I'm assuming you young lady. You look like a truck parked on you. What happened?" He asked friendly. Kendra replied in sarcastic fashion. "A truck parked on me." This got another genuine full hearty laugh from the good Doctor. His laugh made Kendra legitimately smile. He was nice, kind and warm. That was enough right there to cause one to be comfortable, but something else about him struck her. He wasn't lecturing her. That was it she supposed. Then again, the lecture may very well come later. Kendra grabbed Emily's hand once more. She didn't want to go back there alone. Kendra eased herself out of her chair and shuffled her way over. Every step was a new fresh pain crashing through her in dull waves. Every step a little less painful though, because she was still holding Emily's hand.
Kendra stepped in the back room with Doc and her girlfriend. The room was small and lightly decorated with inspirational posters. There was a cat hanging from a rope on one. It looked as if the cat were trying to pull himself up with the words "Hang in there." written across the top in pink lettering. It was as if he went to the generic store and filled his cart with as much generic, generic as he could because they were having a super sale on generic posters. "Hop up let's have a look." He said tapping the examination seat with his hand.
Kendra did as she was asked and tried and succeeded in hoisting herself up on the table after some effort. Her ribs were fire. They were slowly burning out all of her energy. Every twist, every turn just drained her as that fresh dull wave of pain hit her. She didn't know about Doc. But he could see how an injury occurred when he healed you. He stared with the easy to reach one. He slid a gentle hand over the bruising on her neck. Kendra felt a warm loving sensation that made her feel at peace. She watched as Doc's eyes seemed to grow more worried and his brow furrowed. He was watching her being strangled, but she didn't know that. She only saw the concern on his face and it worried her. Doc said nothing as he went about his treatment. He only continued to treat the wounds that he found and tried to make sense of why someone would strangle such a pretty young lady, and he was collecting information on how the rest of her injuries occurred. Her battered ribs for example. They were a result of her leaping to a fire escape and missing before coming crashing down from her ineptitude and crashing ribs first on the edge of a dumpster in an ally.
Kendra watched as he sensed her ribs and lightly slid a hand over her ribs, over her shirt. She watched as he shook his head lightly. His eyebrows were still furrowed in concern and she was feeling worse by the moment. She wanted Emily. Childish maybe, to want the physical touch of someone while being scared at the doctor, but she didn't like the way he was looking at her. That concern registering across his face was freaking her out. He was simply seeing the injuries happen before him, but in the moment she could only conclude the worst. Kendra's hand moved back on the exam table quietly searching for the soft grasp of Emily. She was reaching out for tender reassurance, no matter how bad she felt she still wanted that. Needed that right now.

As the Doctor came back out and finished commenting to the kid that had come in to see him Emily wandered if it was a joke. Surely the students didn't try to come to the Doc for every kind of scratch and bump they gave themselves. It wasn't even obvious from his emotions, he radiated this kind of... warmth.
Oh, they were opening with jokes. Fantastic. Great. Emily felt her nails dig into the material on the side of the chair she was sitting in. Why was she even here? Why did she care so much? She'd only met Kendra a few weeks prior, and now she was this worried over her making a mess of herself.
They went into the office together, because if she'd come this far she could still offer some moral support, even if she was still absolutely seething. Emily nearly jumped when the Doctor started the healing process, not even from his sudden shift in emotions, but something else... She was picking up a shadow of Kendra's emotions, the various things going through her head when she did what she did the night before, as she'd acquired the injuries.
Biting down on her lip hard she threw Kendra a glance, looking back at the Doctor sensing his concern. Kendra reached out for Emily's hand to no avail. Doc Prof took a step back for a moment and looked at Emily, noting the look on her face. "Are you a sibling, or family?" He asked, in a gentle concerned tone.
"Girlfriend." Emily rasped curtly. In short order the Doc had finished healing Kendra and gave her a much firmer glance.
"Young lady, I cannot impress enough on you how dangerous what you did was. I know the X-men operate here, but they have training and coordination, you seem to have no such thing." He explained in a soft tone before gesturing at Em. "You need to think about the consequences of actions beyond just what might happen to you." Emily didn't think that one needed explaining.

All levity had vanished. The pang of guilt couldn't be more apparent if Kendra had taken a wooden mallet, written the words "I'm So Sorry" on it and proceeded to beat Emily over the head with it. Kendra had to actual resist the urge to roll her eyes when Doc started in with how reckless she had been. She didn't need him telling her too. She already knew how stupid she was and she was feeling more stupid by the moment. Kendra's fingers dug into the soft table she was sitting on. She was feeling 100% better than she was but she was feelin 100% worse too. She caught out of the corner of her eye Emily tossing her a glare that still looked angry.
She had no idea that Emily was sensing emotions from the night in question. She had no idea that Emily might be feeling the physical pain that Doc was experiencing first hand as he healed her. It was selfish and dumb, and it was the last thing she wanted to do again. Helping others was great. It really was. But was it worth it? Was it worth it to cause this much damage to her own body and to Emily's feelings? Kendra thought not. She wanted to break down right there. She cast her eyes away at a distant wall as Doc continued to lecture her. As he told her that she should think about what her actions might do to others. That one cut like a knife. Only Doc couldn't heal those wounds that were were still bleeding in her heart.
Kendra dared to steal a glimpse of Emily's face. The soft porcelain skin wrinkled lightly with worry and fear. It was enough to make her stare at the floor. What the hell was i thinking? She accused herself in her head. She wasn't used to this. She wasn't used to have to stop and think about things like this. It was true they had only been together a short time, but in that short span Emily had showed her more love and more compassion than anyone had in her whole life. Of course she latched on to that feeling of caring, that feeling of acceptance and security. Kendra wanted to be loved just like anyone else. She almost wished she hadn't been healed. She deserved to be in pain. Maybe it would have taught her a lesson to feel that sharp jab with every step. Kendra wanted to cry now. She couldn't possibly feel more low. This was worse than that feeling in the bathroom when she tried to figure out how to explain. She wasn't thinking selfishly anymore. She wasn't worried about weather or not she would be mad, she was worried about weather or not she deserved Emily.
When Kendra had reached out for Emily's hand and didn't find it, she felt as if she deserved that one too. Though that one hurt the worst. That horrible empty feeling of reaching out for comfort and only coming back with emptiness. Kendra's eyes began to water up as she silently stared at the floor. Somehow she managed to speak in an unwavering voice. "Yeah, I know." It was all she said. It was all she could muster. "Thanks Doc." She grumbled and hopped of the examination table. Kendra rudely walked out of the room, but she didn't care. She didn't want to break down in front of Emily. It was bad enough that Emily could probably sense everything she was feeling right now. She didn't want to be a burden. Kendra stormed out of the room trying to keep her throat from locking up. The watery sting burned at her eyes as she reached up and wiped them away with her sleeve. Some kid was standing in the doorway coming to see Doc Professor. Kendra pushed past him without bothering to say excuse me. She just wanted to get out of that room of guilt. "Hey! Watch it jerk!" The kid cried out after her. She didn't hear him.
Kendra began to run a little until she found herself by a large set of stairs. Most of the students were in their classrooms. There were the few occasional wanderers in the halls, but none on this hall. Kendra found herself alone by the stairs. She tried to regain her composure. She tried to figure out a way to make herself stop crying, but everything that jumped into her head screamed "YOU SCREWED UP!" And she had. She knew that. She had even tried to apologize for it, but she was just overcome with emotions right now. She had always been guilty of feeling things to strongly. Guilty of wearing her heart on her sleeve and such. She was done. Done with the X-Men and done with trying to be a hero. There were no two ways about that. She just wanted to live a quiet simple life with no danger beyond her own general clumsiness. Kendra stood there under the stairs trying to stop crying, but the tears were in heavy flow now. She tried and failed to get herself together. All she could think about was how much she had wronged her girlfriend....
