The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Emily nodded at the agreement. She felt it in him too, along with something else like pride... She did her best to reign in the venomous comment that sprang to mind immediately, her expression did however shift for a moment to irritation, before she managed to chill out again, by focusing on the work that they were supposed to be doing. He was different to a lot of the guys she had classes with alright.
She shrugged. "Yes, I suppose you could say that." Empathy did come under psychics she supposed, though when most people thought about it, they seemed to think of telepaths and telekinetics, or people who made those crazy constructs she sometimes saw.
Emily gave him a very knowing smile during his panic. Sure, she might not actually take much issue with Leo, and she might not want him to actually be scared of her... But a little healthy misunderstanding over her power might not hurt too much... She pondered his comment though for a few moments. "Well yes and no, it certainly contributed to my interest, but the area of human behaviour and emotions would interest me anyway."
She... had actually completely forgotten about typing. "Alright, you can Type." She reached over and pulled out a text book, quickly scanning over the index, keeping an eye (So to speak) on Leo's emotions, occasionally glancing up at him.
Detective Leo had cracked yet another case of What Does the Human-looking Mutant do Besides Act Weird. His confidence soared momentarily while he gave himself a little mental back pat. Psychic. Did he have psychic shields? That was a thing mutants sometimes talked about. Leo tried to think about something really, really specific to test Emily's accuracy.
Purple monkey foot. Rootabega. Roota... Ruetabega? How do you spell that?
Leo grabbed his phone to check.
It was Rutabaga.
What was he doing?
"Uh. Typing. Right." Where had his focus gone? Into the land of mutants and powers. Duh. Leo dismissed the accumulating notifications from the AX forum and fired up a word processor.
"Are you good for grammar? Like editing? I usually just type it all in and move it around to join up later." The bibliography would go on the last page all by itself so it didn't get lost, though. He wasn't wholly disorganized.
"I wouldn't mind if you read out loud some, though." It would keep him from having to bounce back and forth and help them find a rhythm to working together.

Leo was a little... Okay, there wasn't really a word for it other than weird. Which might be mean, condescending or rude to think about him especially after such little time interacting with him, but he was definitely quite the odd duckling. Most guys Emily met were definitely another way than him. She actually regretted the way she'd initially treated him now, he was unique and kind of interesting to boot.
She snorted a little. "Take your time, we've got a little time to get this project done, and it's not like first to hand in gets anything extra." She chimed helpfully. She was definitely a little more cheerful than before.
She nodded at his comment. "My grammar is fairly competent." She confirmed. Following this she glanced around and felt more people entering the library. Oh dear. "On second thought, lets try and only do this for another half hour, or move somewhere else, before the library gets too crowded."
"Sure." She began to read out some helpful summaries of the theory.
Emily zeroed in on the newcomers. They weren't gross or weirder than anyone else in this kookie, crazy madhouse so either the problem was a personal grudge or a power problem. Either way it was no skin offa Leo's nose.
"Yeah. No. Half an hour should be a solid start."
And if there was one thing Leo was good for, it was transcribing. His pops used to give him quarters for transcribing his verbal medical notes and dollars for translating them. It wasn't until much, much later that Leo realized he'd been providing a valuable service at an unbelievably low cost.
Leo honed in on Emily's voice and let the rest of everything fall away. Where he was a cat meandering in the garden before, now there was no space in his head for anything else. When there was work to get done, he did the work.

Truth be told, Emily was a lot more impressed with Leo than she'd initially thought she'd end up being. The boy had been the one without the pre-conceptions, on the most part at least. The comment about women and hormones made her wanna give him a good whack, but with his healthy fear of her, she'd decided that smacking him might be reinforcing those habits and thoughts just a little too much.
She moved over and eyed the notes he'd been taking while she'd gone off describing and paraphrasing things she was reading. Again, she found that typically this was one of the best ways to plan for a presentation, if you paraphrased it was very difficult to get accused of plagiarism.
She eyed over his shoulder with what turned into a smirk. "You are indeed, quite a good hand at transcribing." She admitted. His grammar, and general writing quality was pretty great. And he seemed to have an excellent amount of concentration going on it too. "Your concentration is nothing to frown about either."
She praised him and a sprig of pride sprouted in his chest which translated into a toothy grin.
"To be fair, I have experience. My pops is an podiatric surgeon who dictates his notes and then bribes his grandbabies to transcribe 'em for him. I could probably tell you all the bones in your foot too." He had a knack for auditory learning which was great in the classroom setting not to mention that it was great for memorizing movie quotes.
"This is a decent start. The rest of this we could knock out another day, if you are itching to be somewhere else." She'd looked nervous before when the library had started filling up. Maybe there was an ex-best friend or something. He was curious, but smart enough not to ask.
"I'll email what I got so far." And he leaned forward on the desk to use his thumbs to maximum efficiency just so he could do it right now.

Emily was actually warming quite substantially to Leo, he was a pretty cool guy. And interesting if only for the fact that he didn't have any powers, and had managed to get himself enrolled at the school. She wondered how that had ever gotten managed in the first place, but she wasn't going to press too hard, especially when they were on a roll as far as a group project went. At least this was proving to show that she could actually play well with others on occasion.
"That's... actually quite interesting. Both of my parents are kinda boring." She replied. It wasn't entirely true. Her mother worked for a company that took part in conducting research for various new medical and cosmetic products, mostly for women. And her dad was near the top of a multi-national corporation that produced software for managing and regulating databases and products for things like hospitals and warehouses.
She actually chuckled at him and patted him on the arm. "Sorry, I'm not trying to be rude or anything, you're actually not awful company. I'd even be down for kicking your ass upside down in one of the lounges on some street fighter sometime, but too many people makes it hard for me to do much thinking at all, if they're in one place." She admitted.
"That would be great." She added before helping him pack up and setting off to somewhere a little less noisey.
