The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Serena smiled as the other girl snaked her arm around her, feeling a little electric shock go through her body. She took another sip of wine and resumed leaning gently on her lovely girlfriend while they chatted. Serena dimly recalled James mentioning somebody helping him at a clothing store and it turning out to be incredibly embarrassing, couldn't be Amelia though. Her helping him with clothes too, too many coincidences.
"NCIS is fun. I used to dip into CSI a bit, but there is a whole freaking library of good crime dramas. Rizzoli and Isles is pretty great, but again Castle is an all time favourite. Even if it took them like five bloody seasons to actually get together." She mumbled, blushing a little when she realised she was going off on a bit of a tangent. "Sorry, I'm rambling. I'll stop." She murmured sheepishly.
She perked up a little and watched the video. Well. That was... interesting? "I remember sitting and watching this other weird show with James, Kill something kill, and it seemed to be taking this trope to an extreme. It was very very odd." She admitted. She couldn't recall much of that one, Gurren Laggan had been the better written one as far as she was concerned. Galaxy sized mechs punching a hole in the space time continuum go!
She giggled at Amelia. "I'm surprised, I thought you could pull anything off. You're like a sexy super hero~" She teased.
Five seasons? Most shows that made you wait that long promptly failed when the 'will they, won't they' dynamic ended... in her experience. There were too many good examples to cite. Some shows even took it to the extreme of saying 'no never they won't ever because if they do it'll kill them (but they still want to, nyeh he ha heh!)'. ... Joss Whedon really took brooding and made it an art form.
Amelia chuckled at Serena's comment about rambling. "Rambling? Oh honey, when we were talking about anime, I was rambling. You're just cute." Rambling. Silly. "The will they won't they dance can be painful. You're only right to be a lil peeved."
Serena was too right about people waiting way too long. She remembered a web comic where they went on with the dance forever with smug smiles and witty rejoinders... only to pair the main guy up with a character that looked exactly like the woman he'd beef flirting with for freaking forever, except she was skinnier and also Goth. That had been aggravating. She didn't read that comic any more. F those guys.
And in another anime, she wasn't sure the main character had ever wound up with her dog demon boy. Hadn't it got cancelled? Serena was lucky they hadn't danced the dance.
That video she had shown Serena was probably the weirdest thing she had seen all day. AND there were multiple anime links in the side bar for the show, and a movie??? The Japanese like their oddities. Serena agreed. Anime could be very weird. Maybe that was one reason she didn't worry much about watching it. What, was she missing out?
Serena giggled at her. Amelia casually arched an eyebrow at her comment. Sexy super hero? Hmmm. "There's a difference between sexy super hero and magical girl," she laughed. "These days, you practically have to be named Serena in order to get a magical transformation sequence." Score one Sailor Moon reference!
Serena might not blush and fluster at every little thing anymore, but being complimented by her Girlfriend could certainly still do it. She felt a little redness around her cheeks and was glad that her face was at least partially hidden from view by the fact she was resting it on Amelia's shoulder. Odd thoughts plucked at her brain, like the scent of the brunette's hair, or the silly anime listening on her phone screen. Anime could be weird.
She chuckled at the Brunette's comment turning her head slightly so she was looking into her eyes. "I at least got that reference." She mused. "Still though, you definitely fit the former category as far as I'm concerned." She teased.
She gently reached down and grasped Ami's free hand, squeezing it gently as the silly movie on the T.V resumed. "It's kinda surreal dating you after all this time, I had a crush on you when I was still a teenager." She admitted soberly.
It was strawberry, by the way. In case anyone was curious what scent of shampoo she had used that day. Strawberry cream, even. Though the scent would have probably worn off a bit after a while. Unless you were real close. Which Serena was.
She had wanted to be sneaky, and steal a kiss after her comment about magical transformations. She'd had it all planned out. The first thing she would have done would have been to distract her. Talk about powers and how she didn't have anything magical, although she could do a nice enchanted... she would pause, as the sneaky slithering scarf slipped up her arm and around Serena. Tugging Serena's chin up and pulling her in gently while she was distracted, into prime kissing territory... where Serena would go un-kissed, as Amelia finished the statement. 'Scarves.' The only magical thing she could do was enchanted scarves, dammit. But the moment had passed, the evil tease had been left undone. At least Serena still thought she was sexy. And she had pretty eyes. Amelia snorted unattractively and let Serena's comment stand.
Amelia felt a hand on hers, and returned the pressure, gently. She had set down her phone beforehand. One hand was around Serena, the other had Serena's hand. If only she had a third hand, she could get more wine! But then, that would ruin the perfect arrangement.
Serena's comment made Amelia smile. It also sent mental gears whirring. There was something, some point that needed to be made. There it was.
"Technically," Amelia stated thoughtfully. "This is my first actual date with a woman." She could explain, of course. But she didn't really want to. The explanation kind of killed the mood.
It was simple. Mirror = boy, in male or female forms. Mirror = male mind form, across all permutations of his gender. She had met him while he was a male, and considered that to be his gender identity. It wasn't clear if baby mirror had been born baby girl or baby boy, but Gawain liked women. He didn't date men. So either he was gay from birth and she was mislabeling the mirror traveling, gender-shifting lesbian as a straight man (and doing them a grave injustice), or she, Amelia, had never been on a date with a real girl who is interested in girls... and doesn't also like them when they're in their alternate male form, making the female form more of something extra, to deal with, rather than something she, Amelia, had personally sought out. Because if you look at it that way, she'd only gone gay for a guy. And that just made her straight, or bi. And bi isn't quite the same as lesbian at all. She was no expert on sexuality or gender identities. This was all personal to her. It was possibly offensive, she did not know! Hopefully the thoughts she had seemed thoughtful enough anyone who disagreed could look past them...
As it stood, if mirror was male even when he was female... then her entire life, Amelia had only dated men. It was just that one of those men was a woman half the time. And potentially, this straight man woman gender shifting mirror traveler had made her consider women, and keep an open mind. Or potentially turned her gay. Well, wasn't that a lot to chew on. Suddenly. From out of nowhere. While snuggling up with a hot blonde.
"I think I made a good call." Amelia concluded, blushing.
Serena had no idea of the internal dialogue that was going on inside her girlfriend's head. But she was having all kinds of fuzzy, knee wobbly thoughts of her own during the time that they gazed into each others eyes. The thoughts floating around behind her own were mostly thinking back to all the times she'd bumped into Amelia and how the feeling of romance had budded.
She'd had such a tumultous time during her teenage years, as when she was barely a teenager she'd lost a father that she'd never really been sure of her feelings on. And then just a few years later she'd been thrust into a world that she'd never truly known all that much about in the form of her mutation manifesting, sure there had been all kinds of mutant related events and crimes going on and sure she'd known they'd existed but she'd been too busy wrapped up in her own little world and coping with the days at they went bye.
To top it all off, the final remaining male role model in her life had been taken from her at the same time as the aforementioned mutation had activated. She'd been dealing with all sorts of demons and problems as well as being terrified of herself and her own power.
And then she'd made good friends like James, and Amelia had come along. Their first meetings had cemented Amelia as an awesome, badass person to look up to. Then following that she'd shown affection and concern towards Serena and it had finally culminated in Serena finding her identity and her sexuality in her feelings for the lovely brunette. As she reflected on these feelings her lips tugged up into a wide smirk.
"You know~" She began, her voice very low as their faces were very close, "You've had a bigger impact on my life than you may realise, I think you were my first real crush, the shocking 'oh god, I'm a Lesbian' moment was pretty impactful." She giggled lightly. "And you're bloody impressive, brilliantly minded, and beautiful." Her voice shook a little from nerves and she continued to gaze into the wonderful brunette's own eyes.
There were no words. Really. No words for when someone tells you that you're the reason they are how they are, that you're a defining moment in their life. No words. And really, who needed them? Because suddenly, she was kissing Serena, and hard.
A lesser person might have cluttered a reply with silly things like words. Clever comments. A 'chaching' cash register sound maybe, or a 'score'! Maybe a 'that's nice. I'm glad I could inspire you that way~' Something goofy. She could have said something goofy. There were certainly things one could say. Or accepting, kind, even loving. Words, words, words. She could have doused them both in the confetti from a shredded thesaurus, and still had more words. But consider this. That old dumb saying about a picture being a thousand words exists. And if that's the case, then just how many words are behind an event? A picture can capture a moment, but there are more words from living the moment in simple glowing memory. To summarize. Words? Don't need em! Because Amelia was kissing Serena, and there was hardly room for anything else.
The movie on the television was entirely abandoned. There was no room for dialogue on the couch.
Serena wasn't sure what else to add, she wanted to say more things, maybe hug the other girl and all sorts of other things that were in cooperation with the fluttering feelings going through her the longer she was near Amelia, but she didn't get to say any of them, she opened her mouth and a sound started to come out before Amelia leaned in and kissed her.
Serena's sound turned from surprise into a muffled pleasurable sound and she reciprocated, with vigor. They'd kissed before, she'd kissed other people before. But this. This was different. This was not a calculated kiss on a date, to prevent awkwardness, or out of some kind of a social protocol at the end of the night.
It wasn't even a nervous, timid kiss. It certainly was not a gentle peck on the lips. Or some kind of a drunken slur focusing on tongues that would cause a bystander and parties involved some kind of discomfort.
This kiss, was right. It was all of Serena's feeling poured against her Girlfriend as if they were engaging in some kind of a dance with a singular move. She shuddered a little and wrapped her arms around Ami as they kissed, meeting the kiss with the same kind of intensity as the brunette did, falling back a little on the sofa as they did, her hands found Amelia's hair at some point, and ran threw it a little.
It was a long kiss, but it didn't feel drawn out. It felt passionate, and charged with emotion.
In the end, after all the business and the work and the stress, trying to find time to do things and hang out with friends and being tired. Here she was, on a comfortable sofa after having had a nice meal and day out, kissing a beautiful brunette. No, that wasn't right. She was kissing Amelia Mellitus. And it was right.
Some time later, the credits rolled. The movie had ended and she hadn't even really watched. Perhaps some other time, they'd give it a second chance. Maybe. But their alternate focus, and the snuggling that had followed, had been preferable. Vastly. Amelia smirked down at the usually taller blonde who was nestled against her shoulder, below her chin. "That was a good movie," she commented huskily.
The weight of the blonde was pleasing to her. Somehow, she had started on the right side of the sofa, with Serena leaning against her shoulder on her left... but was now on the left, leaning against the sofas arm while Serena was on her right, laying against her. At some point, the positions had been switched. That placed Serena firmly closer to the remote control, so that Amelia couldn't change it. But on the other hand... it put Amelia closer to Serena's nearly empty wine glass where it sat on the end table.
Amelia snuck an arm out, found the glass, and drained it, momentarily wishing it were red. She was in a red mood. Red. Like lips. Her index finger rested against the top edge of the wine glass. Without thinking, she brushed the finger against her lower lip. And realized Serena had not immediately responded to her comment. The wine glass clinked lightly against the end table as it was set down. Amelia used her now free left hand to brush aside the blondes bangs. "Serena?" She asked.
Not having had a huge amount of experience with making out, or snuggling a romantic partner, Serena couldn't tell you beforehand how easy it was to relax and fall asleep. Now on the other hand, she definitely could. The kiss had been... intense to say the least, and had lead into some actual watching of the movie and a lot of cuddling. Serena liked cuddling, lots.
She'd fallen asleep somewhere on the sofa shuffling arrangement, and everything had just melted away into background noise and softness. She'd dreamt about the activities of the day, and them going wrong. She messed up on the ice, she'd upset her date with the choice of restaurant, and acted generally like a jerk. The day had ended in her grumbling about a bad date and it not feeling right, which wasn't nice. Of course being a dream it was all disjointed and confusing, and just didn't feel right.
She woke with a little bit of a start when the girl ran her fingers along the blonde's locks. She jumped a little, not much, just a small jolt. "I-uhm... Whaa.." She shook the sleep out of her eyes slowly and looked up to see a beautiful brunette looking at her, the movie had finished. She was still with Amelia, that was right. Wait, when did she end up on this side of the sofa? She remembered a lovely kiss, but was still a tiny bit groggy.
Once she realised she'd fallen asleep during their first date her cheeks flushed in something crimson and she giggled. "Sorry, you were too comfortable~" She responded with a soft sound that was nearly a purr.
She happily leaned in and kissed the other girl on the lips again, deeply but more gently than before, this was a kiss of soft affection more than anything else. They chatted for a little longer and then parted ways for the night, with promises to text and chat more, and meet up again soon.
