The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Got a plot in mind?
MRO plots are player-created the Mods facilitate and organize the big ones, but we get the ideas from you. Do you have a plot in mind, and want to know whether it needs Mod approval? Check out our plot guidelines.
As the utopia plot progresses, violence breaks out between humans and mutants. META bots everywhere begin to malfunction and arrest all mutants, rather than just those committing crimes. Eyes are turned to the X-men… but the X-men refuse to get off their soapbox and do something instead of going on and on about peace.
X-men takeover plot idea: Certain individuals, including Margo, decide that something needs to change. They join the X-men with the intention of staging a coup, of using the X-men’s authority and influence to do things their own way.
Whether the coup is successful or not, it serves as motivation for characters to join the X-men to try to make a difference in the world.
Any suggestions? Let me know what you think, and whether you want to be part of this movement to change the X-men for the better.

*thinks* I don't speak for all of the X's but I think could be fun. Though it might be a little difficult to take control, CS for example doesn’t take kindly to being on the receiving end of a coup. Pretty sure if you had a good cause and some proper motivation CS would be more than willing to help. CS never wanted to be a team leader so if someone is more qualified for the job he'd encourage and support them. That and the fact that the police are promoting the META bots he has been looking for an excuse to walk away from the police. This plot might help that come to pass (might have already smashed a few META bots)
*also points out from the soap box* It has been a while since a lot of X-Men have been active and had missions. However the police were just humans until the X’s decided to help bolster their ranks and help promote mutant officers thus reducing the number of casualties. We also have a possible mission thread if you have some ideas. The more ideas and members we get the more we get off the soap-box. I encourage you to tryout for the X-Men. If you got ideas for missions I’d love to hear them and help if I can! *thumbs up*
I like this idea. It has potential. Amelia may just join the X-men if the MO for the X-men changes.
She left before, because she felt like she was just some sort of reckless vigilante, and felt that they should leave police work to the police. She is currently working on joining the police. I feel like she wouldn't have a problem with the separation, in the end.
Amelia would need to meet with some people to discuss the idea, but she'd be receptive. She likes helping people. She just feels working with the police helps the most folks. She may be dissatisfied if she gets stuck with menial parking tickets duty, though.

I very much approve. The more disoriented the X-Men are, the better off Ragnarok is. If you need someone to stoke the flames - maybe humiliate the X-Men even further in the public eye - then Ragnarok is here for all of your ruining-everything needs. Also, Ambrose himself carries a lot of weight in the mutant world - he can denounce the X-Men publicly, maybe, to further make them seem like fools.
The only real problem I have is the idea that the X-men would do nothing. Cafas, for one, isn't just going to sit by and preach once the peace is broken. I don't know, but I highly doubt any of the X-men would. I just don't think the X-men have been presented with a threat that actually went anywhere in quite a while. This new Utopia plot, should it go ahead as planned and have enough activity to back it, is the exact type of kick in the proverbial hornet's nest that will see them come out of their role as police back up, and into their old role of world police .
None of this is to say anything against the plot, it's more the reasoning for people's dissatisfaction. There are plenty of other reasons people might want to see some change in the X-leadership. Cafas would be happy to preach (accidentally of course) to trainees about the follies of their police partnership, and let's face it, their leader is totally a drunk pirate. The METAbots not even the X-men like, so the whole place is just one big powder keg waiting for the spark of revolution. Between Ghost's oxygen content and Sam's liquor soaking, maybe we keep the actual fire to a minimum though. Mansions are expensive.
Ultimately, and CS touched on this too, the problem the X-men have is the problem the Order had, not lack of motivated characters involved in the organisation, but a lack of active players running them. I'm sure quite a few of you remember the days of the X-men kicking butt and taking names as international freedom fighters in Europe. The previous possessors of the grey names, the Kabal, were instrumental in pushing that plot. In fact, I'm getting the same lovely vibes off Utopia as we had then.
So, I am more than happy to go with this, because the more people we get involved in the X-men, the more "life proof" the faction becomes, and who wouldn't want more opportunities to RP with you wonderful people? Cafas would be happy to be the accidental inciter of a coup, bringing in trainees and sharing his ideals, and how the current scheme seems to be failing them. He's been contemplating a take over for years anyway, but figured they didn't have the numbers to lose Sam if he took the take over poorly. (AKA haven't seen CS in ages to talk about it with him )
Ambrose: Honestly, I feel Ragnarok really kicking their doings into a more public high gear would be beneficial to lighting a fire under the X-men that currently exist, and pushing more people into the faction, whereas humiliating them seems more likely to drive people away from them rather than towards them (Not withstanding the whims of players, but just from a logical perspective). Plus then it's opening up more posting opportunities for the Ragna-Rockers. Activity is the lifeblood of a forum, anything we can do to increase it is a good thing, in my opinion.
Well, my two cents appears to have turned into several dollars, largely on a broader topic than the plot... Sorry about that xD
I don't have an X-Man but I like the idea. People often join organizations in order to influence/change them or be agents of change even in a group they like/agree with. It's only reasonable for the X-Men to see more aspirants now that they've taken an even greater public stage in the wake of tragedy. How the group evolves from those joining, we shall see.
Meanwhile seeing Ambrose and possibly others speak negatively or cause negative events for the X-Men only makes sense.
I think one way or another, the X-Men will face backlash from working with the NYPD and the meta bots. In fact, I fully expect Tempest to express such publicly in time.
Amelia hasn't really met Cafas, so she doesn't trust him. Talking with him, and finding out his dissatisfaction could really open her eyes. I sense threads in this.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I agree with what’s been said— that the current X-men/police/META bots are a disaster just waiting to happen, that part of the reason the X-men haven’t had as many team missions is a lack of active players, etc. As for whether the X-men do act once the peace is broken, further along the utopia plot, that’s not for me to say. Keep in mind that I write primarily from Margo’s perspective; she’s frustrated because it looks to her like the X-men are just standing by while all of this happens, but that’s just her. Really, this plot idea is for anyone who is dissatisfied with the current X-men leadership, for whatever reason.
Amelia- I’d be up for a thread to discuss the idea; Margo has no intention of taking over the X-men by herself, and she wants to hear other people’s opinions on what they think needs to change. Same goes for anyone else who is interested. In the meantime… pulling all the strings to get you stuck on menial parking tickets duty
Ambrose- I agree with Cafas. The best thing you can do for the X-men right now is to take Ragnarok to a new level.
Cafas- That would be great, actually. Cafas is totally helping Margo out by recruiting people and sharing his ideals and accidentally inciting a coup.
If I remember right, deputization did not happen concurrently with X-men status. At least, it's possible that there is paperwork to go through, a background check at least. It's possible we get an influx of new X's and the system gets clogged or the police start dragging their feet.
I can see a split happening in the ranks that way, easily. The "official" X-men and the "unofficial" and it'd be great fun to end up on opposite sides of something eventually where those who are deputized are obligated to back the police (even if they don't actually end up doing so). Something to think about.
I always enjoy a good younger generation coup. To me, this is less about who is "in charge" and more about a flaunting of the rules in order to accomplish something, consequences be damned. The whole "legal right versus moral right" or maybe more accurately "head versus heart."
Anyway, the whole idea is reckless and flies in the face of ye olde X-team. It also fits nicely in with what the brats have been doing so if more people start acting that way, maybe they'll stop getting so many detentions.
As Cafas pointed out, there are many reasons to do rebel, though I highly suggest we take the pirate hostage. Lock him in his own secret liquor cabinet. It can even be an accident... at first. >_>
My character's reactions: Ghost: will probably side with the police to a fault. Feel free to vacuum her up or distract her with something. She's easily distractible.
Lori: will support any coup, including distracting CS if need be. She'll call up the police and sever ties on the X's behalf even though she has no intention of joining. She's just that helpful.
Jude: will gladly spy on the police or make trouble or anything really. He's been apprenticing under Hades for hand to hand training because all the X's were poor mentors in his eyes so he's already mentally on board with working outside the system in order to get things done. He may be torn as a junior X on which side is the right one to support, but it wouldn't last too long. I mean, really, he already set the jet hangar on fire this year. So. He's clearly a most excellent junior X-man.
Leo: Is not an x-man. Or a mutant. He will provide any support for the revolution, especially when it comes to coordination. He's big in the online mutant tracking community and ultimately wants to prove that humans and mutants can live in harmony given enough mutual respect. This unity plot is gonna break his heart a bit.
How did the half-lesbian cross-prankster become the goodie-two-shoes in this, I wonder... XD They grow up so fast.
I like the general idea, and I absolutely agree that the Xs need more active players (including my own lazy butt), and more plots
Note on the NYPD/META issue: Mirror has actually had more than one IC thread taking out buggy META's in very public settings (one with CS), so technically, there is media proof out there that the X's turn on police (equipment) if it means saving people.
Also, Mirror has been salvaged and trained by CS - s/he'll follow his lead whatever it is. That is saying, if the coup comes down to an actual confrontation within X ranks, Mirror's got CS's back, no questions asked.
I think a lot of this will be influenced by how the Utopia plot goes. Speaking from my character's perspective, I think Mirror will be deeply suspicious of Utopia, and hardcore against mutants separating themselves from the world. It might mean that some Xs will go to Utopia, and some won't. There is another possibility for a split...
Also, I just read it, but Ghosty raises a valid point: BRAT BRIGADE vs older X-men is highly highly likely to happen at this point...
Also, I said this in the cbox but I said it again: CS has been giving missions to Sveta on the down low, because she is willing to do things that the X-men, as police allies, cannot (like taking out dangerous criminals instead of bringing them in). Depending on who gets a hold of this information, and how it is interpreted, it might make CS look better or worse.

Ghost and Mirror- yes. I was totally picturing “head vs heart” and “Brat Brigade vs older X-men”, but as you guys pointed out, there are so many possibilities.
