Character

Personality: Growing up with and around politicians her entire life, Alva understands the deceitful nature of people's words. She's learned how to craft what she says, negotiate well, and always put on a smile.

She is called cold and calculating because of her upbringing and desire for power and wealth. She's had a taste of it, and wants more of it. Plus, Alva is not afraid to cut corners to get what she wants.

That said, underneath the cold exterior is a woman who deeply loves and cares. Because she didn't feel much love and attention growing up, it takes a lot to crack her facade, but once they do, she will cling tightly to that person in the hopes that they will never leave her. You might question Alva's morals, but she is fiercely loyal to those in her inner circle, but cross her and she will destroy you.
Hobbies/ Interests: Because she can understand so many different languages, Alva is fascinated with different cultures and traveling. Through her work she has met people from across the world, and only desires to learn more, including how to read as many languages as possible.

Besides that, Alva enjoys playing the piano, which she has been playing since she was 7 years old.
Job or part time job and description: Professional translator. She uses her mutant ability to translate for various foreign parties visiting New York. Primarily these parties having dealings with the United Nations or American politicians, but if a Chinese businessman visited the city for contract negotiations, Alva wouldn't say no... as long as the money was good.

Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Bad. Alva wants the power, control and money, and nothing will stop her from achieving that - no matter what corners have to be cut.

Mutation description: Alva is not a bilingual, or a trilingual, but even more. She can understand and speak any language, but that's the catch. She can't read different languages.
Strengths: Although English is her mother tongue, speak to Alva in any other language, and she can communicate with you with ease. Makes her a wonderful translator.
Weaknesses and Limitations: However, Alva can't read other languages, which means you won't be finding Alva out in Egypt reading hieroglyphics or on a computer speaking 1s and 0s. Her gift only extends to verbal communication.

Physical Abilities

General Physical Capabilities: Alva's strength, speed, reflexes, stamina and flexibility are all average for someone her age who works out. Alva is an avid runner and yogi, so she's in shape for her age. So while she can outrun someone who doesn't run on a daily basis, she will not be winning any marathons anytime soon.

History Of Your Character
Born into a world of wealth and politics on February 20, 1987, Alva grew up in Boston, Massachusetts as the daughter of US Senator Nathan Zimmer and Massachusetts Representative Evelyn Zimmer (née Rostava).

With both parents in politics, Alva grew up closer to her nanny, Masha Baranova, but wished for more attention from her parents. This caused her to resort to a few drastic methods, including an attempt to start a fire in her mother's home office. When those methods didn't give the desired outcome, Alva focused her attention on school. She excelled at her classes, but was also the reigning queen of her grades. What she said in class was law.

Her mother and father both had their own political agendas, including her father's short bid for the presidency in 2000. Her entire life Alva was paraded around various political events - dinners, the campaign trails - because who wouldn't want to see the power couple's adorable daughter?

It was at one of these dinners with some of the elite when Alva discovered her power. It was 2002 and Alva was 15 at the time. She was introduced to a French diplomat and his wife. The two of them began speaking with another couple in French, and before she realized what was going on, Alva began conversing in French with them. It wasn't until they complimented her on her French that she realized she was speaking a different language. In Alva's mind, she was speaking English.

It happened again when she was at the hair salon, and could converse with the hair stylist in Vietnamese. They were of course shocked how well Alva could speak the language, especially since she had never spoken it with them before.

Slowly, Alva began to realize what was going on, and began to learn how to differentiate when she speaks English, and when she speaks another language. While initially disappointed and upset that she was unable to read these languages, the growth in text-to-speech software helped her immensely, and allowed her to navigate online in other languages.

Eventually, Alva attended and graduated from Yale with a Bachelor of Political Science, and then from Harvard with a Masters of Liberal Arts in International Relations. She moved to New York City to open her own translator business, where she assists elite foreign clients when they visit New York. Because of her parents' political ties, most of her work deals with clients visiting the United Nations or political events in New York, but her work does extend to businessmen on occasion.

Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: I had Lizzy Calver way back in the day. It's been so long, and I lost my muse for her. Alva is my creation to get me back into MRO because I miss this site. A lot.
Sample RP:
"<Will this be your first time visiting New York?>" Alva asked the Egyptian on the receiving end of the phone call. Omar Pasha was booking passage to the city in order to argue issues on counterterrorism methods in front of the United Nations. Because of her high reputation in translating languages, including Arabic, Alva was recommended to the man.

"<I visited New York City once, but that was many years ago,>" he responded, "<I must commend you on your Arabic. You are a natural speaker.>" Alva simply smiled at this. How many times had people said she sounds like a natural speaking their mother tongue? Her brain computed everyone else speaking English... as long as they did not ask her to read anything.

"<Thank you, sir. It's a godsend gift.>" If only he knew how accurate of a statement that was. It's too bad God didn't also give me the ability to read these languages as well, Alva thought, then I would have been golden. "<Now back to business. Your secretary sent me your agenda for the time you'll be here, and I responded with my fee. Will this be an acceptable amount?>"

There was a long pause on Omar's end, as Alva could hear the rustling of papers. When the rustling stopped, Omar gave a big sigh, "<Yes, this will be an acceptable amount. Given how well you speak the language, I understand the high praise and price.>"

His voice clearly indicated he was not happy with the price, but both he and Alva knew he would not find a better translator in all of New York City - no, in all of the world. She believed Omar should be pleased her prices are that low for how good of a job she does.

"<Perfect. Then I will confirm you on my schedule for next month. Feel free to contact me should any questions arise.>"

The conversation ended, and a wave of exhaustion followed Alva's sigh of relief. The Egyptian only had time in his busy schedule for a morning phone call. She was up before the sun this morning, as she looked at her clock and read 4am. Time for coffee, Alva decided. There was no point on trying to go back to sleep. She was awake.

As she got a cup of coffee in her, Alva glanced at her schedule for the day: a phone call with a Frenchman, a Russian, and later that evening was a political dinner for her father. Nathan Zimmer was recruiting more donors for his campaign. As a politician's daughter, Alva was required to put on a show of what the perfect family looks like. A scowl grew across her face as she thought of how much her cheeks would hurt after the evening of smiling for a cause she couldn't care less about.

C'est la vie, Alva thought as she toasted the morning with her coffee. It's going to be quite the day.
