The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"A school for people with abilities," Juliette repeated softly. She didn't know why she had never heard of it before. Of course, it wasn't as if she frequented mutant establishments. It wasn't like she avoided them, either, she just simply preferred to stay under the radar. Of course, she got the odd obvious mutant patient, but other than that she didn't have contact with all that many.
She thought about it for a moment, trying to grasp the idea of it. Wouldn't it be dangerous to house so many people with powers in one area? They probably had safeguards in place. She shook her head at the idea, trying her picture a school for mutants. A small part of her wished that she could have heard about it while she was still in school. It likely would have saved her quite a few years of feeling insecure about her abilities. It was far too late for that, though.
She looked back to Tyson after a moment, "and they just take anyone with powers? Or is it just students?" She asked him curiously. Her mind suddenly shifted to a dark place, and she blurted out her thought before she could decide better of it, "they don't... Experiment on people or anything, do they?"
Tyson could see Juliette mulling it over the idea that a school for mutants existed. Come to think of it he probably felt the same way when he heard of it. Of course in his case he was recovering from being experimented on and coming to terms with the initial post traumatic stress of having being turned into a monster. He hadn't really been in a state of mind to really consider how he felt upon hearing about the institute initially. He had just wanted a cure, and was willing to believe anything at that point to get it. Of course that hadn't panned out, and that hope had died a while ago.
"and they just take anyone with powers? Or is it just students?"
"Hrr I'm not a student yet rrr," he said, unsure about how the official process went, "Frrrom what I can tell hrr they arrre therrrre to help people, student orrrr not." At least that was his experience, the institute had taken him in and took care of him while he was adjusting. They didn't have to do that, they could have just kicked him out to fend for himself, and given the amount of damage he had caused, they had been very patient with him.
"they don't... Experiment on people or anything, do they?"
"Hrrr, trrrust me, if they did I would be no wherrre nearrr therrre," he said, with an amazing amount of sobriety in his voice. Tyson couldn't even stand regular doctors due to what his father did to him, if the institute had tried to run experiments on him, he would have left, and probably caused a lot of damage doing so out of sheer terror and panic. He couldn't smell anything akin to what he had when he was captive, and he was learning that he could trust his nose if nothing else.

Juliette nodded along with him, her mind spinning. For a moment, she considered what it would be like if she went to the institute. She quickly pushed the thought away, though. She was needed more where she was, and the institute would likely mean a long time commitment. The idea was definitely planted, though.
>>"Hrrr, trrrust me, if they did I would be no wherrre nearrr therrre."
Nodding, Juliette took another sip of her coffee. She didn't entirely believe Tyson on the matter but figured that it was best if she dropped the issue. People didn't just set up an institute like the one he described with no catch, did they?
She couldn't help but sneak another quick glance at his paw, amazed by how quickly it had healed. Silently, she wished that there was some way to harness his ability and produce it to use on a large scale. It was hard to believe that the world could shun mutants when they could possibly be the answer to so many problems. She tore her eyes away after a moment, forcing herself back on topic.
"Do you like it at the institute?" Juliette asked him curiously. She really wanted to give the place a proper vetting, but she didn't want to overload him with questions. Instead, she stuck to a simple one that she hoped would give her some sort of insight.
Tyson caught Juliette glancing at his paw, and felt maybe it felt a little threatening to her. After all the claws on it were sharp and could easily rend flesh, as he knew from experience. He quickly put his hand in his lap to take it out of Juliette's view, hoping it would make her feel less nervous about being this close to him.
She seemed to be thinking about something, her body language seemed to key in with his instincts to where she seemed... distrustful of him? He wasn't sure, it could be just about anything, more likely she just didn't trust him like a rabbit didn't trusts a fox. For all he knew he had that effect on people, and honestly he couldn't fault her on it, he didn't trust himself either, why should others?
"Do you like it at the institute?"
Tyson had to pause and think about it for a bit. He hadn't really thought about if he liked the institute or not. His situation was more like he didn't have much other choice, but that wasn't the same as liking a place. You could still be forced somewhere and like the place, but did he? It had it's pros and cons of course, it was noisy, full of people, and he had little to do since his mutation prevented normal activities, but at the same time, people had been understanding and nice, it did have a lot of space where he could get away from people, and he did have shelter and food.
"Hrr I wouldn't say it's perrrfect," he finally said, "But what place is rrreally? Hrrr I guess I like it morrre then what could have been hrr, they could have just left me to fend forrr myself. But they've put up with me hrr, put up with me destrrroying my rrroom, my wild outburrrsts, I don't rrreally think most places hrr would have the patience forrr something like me." It's as honest about how he felt as he could get. He couldn't say he liked or hated it fully, but the truth was if he had to, the institute would likely be the place to choose.

Juliette paused as Tyson pulled his paw away. She worried that she had made him uncomfortable with the staring. Sensitivity training had covered just about everything except what to say to someone with a mutation that made them look like a Wolf. She kicked herself mentally and seared the occasion into her mind so that if something like that ever happened again she wouldn't stare quite so much. She sighed and finished off her coffee as she listened to him, unable to stop herself from feeling bad about the paw incident.
She smiled slightly as he spoke about the institute. It sounded nice, like a haven of some sort. It almost made her want to reconsider.
Almost.
She was silent for a moment and appeared to be thinking. After a little while, she looked up and asked, "do you think that if you had the option to go elsewhere that you would? I mean, is the institute more of a necessary stop or would you chose to live there?"
Tyson wasn't sure what Juliette was trying to get at. She seemed to be searching for something in particular, and what it was he had no clue. Honestly, if he could go anywhere in the world, he would go back home. But that wasn't an option, for several reasons. And not just because of the way he looked. He hadn't told his mother about his condition yet, and could not fathom how he was going to break the news to her, let alone convince her he was still her son. He wasn't even sure he was anymore, he had animal instincts that messed with the way he thought, he couldn't say it hadn't changed him into a different person. Besides that,he didn't know what options were even available to him anymore. It was not like he could just get a job or go to school where he wanted. He had been attacked before because of the way he looked, there was no way he could have a normal job or a normal life.
"Hrr I don't know what you'rrrre asking forrr." He said finally, "I don't have much in the hrrr way of a futurrre to have those choices." It was the most honest answer he could give. He couldn't say he had a stepping stone to anything, he would be lucky if he even ever got to use his hands again, having a place to go other than the institute would be like a miracle of biblical proportions, and just about the same kind of odds.
I don't think people understand how stressful it is to explain what's going through your head when you don't even understand it yourself. Wolf
Juliette's eyes softened a little bit as she listened. She immediately felt awful for asking the question. It wasn't fair, especially for someone in his situation. God, she was making a mess of everything. Nodding, she silenced herself for a few moments. Would it be better if she simply left? It would certainly give her less of a chance to ask stupid questions. She was finished with her coffee, after all.
She made a move to stand up, then changed her mind suddenly. Tyson seemed a little bit lonely if she was being honest. She forced herself to sit back down and continue their conversation. This time around, she prayed that she wouldn't completely butcher it.
"Do you want me to order you a cold drink? It might be a little bit easier if you use a straw," she suggested. "Until we find you some caps, at least."
Juliette looked like she was uncomfortable, had he given the wrong answer? Probably, he wasn't good at the whole social thing anymore, lack of practice he guessed. Being isolated would do that to you, and he had gone a while without even being able to talk right. He would go and make a mess of things the first time a normal person had shown some concern for him, wouldn't he? First freaking her out and then making her feel uncomfortable for no reason. He felt horrible that he couldn't do anything without messing something up for everyone else. He supposed it was better then previous times he had lost it, he hadn't tried to eat her or anything, that was an improvement, but it was still a far cry from what he wanted. He wouldn't blame her if she suddenly got up and left, after all, he wasn't human anymore, he wasn't even sure he was a person or just an animal trying to pretend to be one.
"Do you want me to order you a cold drink? It might be a little bit easier if you use a straw, until we find you some caps, at least."
Probably a better idea then trying for tea again. He wanted something to calm his nerves, but all that had accomplished was more stress. Cold drinks seemed the way to go then, and he knew he could at least drink from a straw with them, even if he couldn't exactly handle a straw precisely. "Hrr thank you," he said in advanced, "I'll have some crrrranberrrrrry juice, please." something a bit bitter, probably the best he was going to get, and a bit more palatable to his wolf side since it reminded it of blood and got it to settle a bit. Of course he wouldn't state this out loud. He didn't want Juliette to know how his wolf side enjoyed the taste of blood and raw meat, even if it were human in origin.

>>"Hrr thank you, I'll have some crrrranberrrrrry juice, please."
Juliette gave him a reassuring smile and stood up to get back in line. To her dismay, there were at least ten more people in line than there had been when she went through. She sighed and waited behind a mother and daughter. She smiled at the girl, who simply stuck out her tongue at her. Juliette sighed - it was going to be a long wait.
She waited for a while and eventually got to the front of the line. She ordered Tyson a cranberry juice and then sat back down next to him. She handed him the juice and a straw, thinking it would be easier for him. "There you are. Do you..." She stopped for a moment, unsure if it would be rude to ask. After a moment, she just blurted it out. "Do you want me to open it for you?"
Tyson waited patiently while Juliette went to get the drinks, mulling over his answers and what he had said wrong. He wasn't trying to make her uncomfortable, but it just seemed that he couldn't avoid it. Why couldn't he just be normal? It just seemed the more he tried, the more life smacked him down to remind him that his life was not his own anymore. He felt like it may just be easier to let go and give up. He didn't know what that entailed though, what he would become if he stopped fighting it and just let himself be lost to whatever it was that was in him now. It seemed a looming inevitability anyway, it seemed he was loosing everything that made him human piece by piece, so maybe he was just putting off the fall. It seemed the only option was to submit, else... well put himself out of his misery. It scared him that that seemed a viable option, though honestly it scared him more then the former. He was at least alive, he had that much going for him, and even if he did lose himself to his animal side, if he became nothing more then a beast, at least, maybe he wouldn't be aware enough to hurt anymore...
His line of thought was cut as Juliette came back with the drink, offering it to him with a straw. "Do you want me to open it for you?" Tyson almost sighed but held it in. He knew he would have trouble getting the wrapper off the straw, it seemed pathetic that he couldn't even do that much for himself. "hrrr Yes," he said, letting her take care of what his clumsy paws could not. "Hrrr what's it like being a nurrrse?" he asked, wanting to break away from his spiralling depressive line of thinking. If he could maybe focus on something else, something he didn't know much about, maybe he could turn his mood around a little. Probably not, but he was a glutton for punishment these days.

Juliette nodded and twisted off the cap of the juice, putting it out in front of him.
>>"Hrrr what's it like being a nurrrse?"
Juliette thought for a moment, a little grateful for a topic that she knew something about. "It can be difficult," she admitted, "but I really enjoy it. On good days, that is. People can be really awful. I suppose that's a lot of the reason I have a job, though. Awful people doing stupid things." She laughed a little. "I won't gross you out with the gory details, though."
She glanced at him for a moment, hoping that she hadn't offended him too much before. "Are you in school at the institute?"
Tyson gripped the juice bottle with both hands and slid it towards himself, then sipped from the straw. He was starting to get the hang of the whole straw thing, it did help regulate the amount of liquid in his mouth and made it a little easier to keep it from dribbling out of the sides of his muzzle. Wolves just weren't built to drink the way a human did.
Juliette didn't offer and 'gory' details and Tyson made no move to argue that. He already had enough pictures of gore in his mind, inflicted by himself. Even though he guessed she hadn't seen the same level of gore, as she was seeing it after the fact, he was in no hurry to add anymore pictures to his already too big folder of graphic memories. "Hrr do you specialize in anything in parrrticularrr?" he asked. Honestly just saying 'nurse' didn't tell him much about what she worked with, and he did want to get his mind away from his own problems.
"Are you in school at the institute?"
"Hrrr not at the moment," he said, "I have hrrr issues with contrrrol, I'm still worrrking on that beforrre I rrrisk getting into a confined class." He didn't want to put anyone in danger because of his lack of control, there were a lot of unpredictabilities that came with being in a mutant school, for more then just sitting in a cafe, a mixture of teenage hormones and sometime especially unfamiliar scents had a real potential to set him off. Even though the institute was probably the best place to keep him from something like that, he still felt he wasn't ready to take that step.

"Hrr do you specialize in anything in parrrticularrr?"
"Trauma," Juliette informed him. "So basically I do things like this all day. Someone comes in who's injured and I patch them up and send them home."
She nodded as he spoke of the institute, having gained a little more knowledge about it through him. It seemed interesting, but it also seemed like there was a lot going on there. She wanted to investigate it further to gain a little more insight into what it was really like.
"Well, what are you doing so far inside the city, then?" Juliette asked him curiously. She doubted that the institute would be anywhere near the bustle of downtown, especially if it housed so many mutants. Besides, she had never seen or heard of it. As she looked at Tyson, though, she doubted that he would have driven himself there, so perhaps he wasn't alone?
It suddenly occurred to Tyson that Juliette may have actually heard about the people he had mauled before. He had been out and about and been cornered by a few people who took issue with him being a mutant. Turns out it wasn't good to back him into a corner, and last he saw those guys they were unconscious and bleeding after his fight or flight instincts caused him to go feral. He never found out what happened to him, for all he knew they could have died, which had been weighing heavily on him since the incident. But he didn't want to ask strait up, it would likely scare Juliette to know what he had done, and he didn't want someone going to the police when they found out. He wasn't sure how his feral side would react to being locked up in a cage, and whoever was in with him would be in danger if it turned out bad. "Hrrr, any interrresting cases?" he asked, knowing that it was vague enough to avoid any suspicion. Of course it was also so vague as to not even register, since 'interesting' may not necessarily refer to an animal mauling a few weeks ago.
"Well, what are you doing so far inside the city, then?"
"Hrrr trrrying to get a drrrink," he said a matter of factly. He was avoiding the real question he knew, but he wasn't exactly sure what he should answer with. That keeping himself locked up in the institute drove him stir crazy and just made his control worse? That he needed some form of normality to keep his sanity, which was hanging by threads as it was? Neither sounded like it would be very reassuring said out loud, more likely it would drive Juliette away for fear of him, he didn't know if any normal person would be able to accept him as he was, the truth seemed to say that he was little more then an animal, and that he shouldn't be around people at all, but he guessed he was just selfish to want something he couldn't have, and was just a glutton for punishment when the inevitable occurred.
I don't think people understand how stressful it is to explain what's going through your head when you don't even understand it yourself. Wolf
"What kind of interesting?" Juliette asked for clarification. There were many kinds of interesting in a hospital. He would need to be more specific. "Gory interesting, weird interesting, medically interesting? I'm not sure what you're looking for."
She nodded as he spoke more about the institute. So far, what she had heard sounded good. She wasn't quite convinced, though. She wanted another opinion on the matter; someone who had been there longer.
Juliette wasn't entirely sure what to say to Tyson in that moment, though. He seemed to be holding back, but she didn't want to press him. She seemed to have made things uncomfortable enough.
"Well, it seems you're in the right place for a drink," she pointed out rather awkwardly.
