Character
Personality: Valerie, while not exactly shy, is very cautious and wary of the world around her. She has trouble trusting anyone and will likely make someone jump through a series of hoops before gaining her trust. She enjoys privacy, but despises staying in a closed room for extended periods of time. Such a situation is only made worse by the presence of darkness.
Valerie has a deep relationship with nature, most especially plants. While she has trouble relating to other people, she has empathy for plants. She can be argumentative at times and mulishly stubborn when it comes to doing things her way.
Hobbies/ Interests: She loves pretty much any outdoor activity, unless temperatures outside are very cold. She likes gardening especially though.
Job or part time job and description: While she would have liked to go to college, she just wasn't in the position to go so she settled for a crappy a crappy dish washer job at a diner.
Fears/ phobias/ concerns: She hates being stuck indoors for too long and even more so hates darkness.
Special talents: She's self trained herself in mixed martial arts.
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: There was a brief time in her past when she was a morally bad person, but since then has reformed into someone when generally good intentions, but now and then still has moments of the bad.
Mutations
Mutation description: Valerie is likely one of the most mutated people in the world. Her mutated x gene led to further mutation of her DNA and cellular structure. Valerie's cells have the characteristics of both an animal and plant cell. Her skin is green because of the chlorophyll in her cells which helps to allow her to perform photosynthesis. Since she is capable of photosynthesis, her cells are able to create their own energy. Her mutation also granted her with sharp thorns on the outside of her arms and hands. These thorns contains a poison that with a small dose causes paralysis, with a high dose can cause death. In the case of a only a small amount of poison entering the bloodstream of an average person, the paralysis would occur approximately two minutes after the fact. With a larger amount, the poison could either take up to four days to kill the victim or worse case scenario, about twenty minutes. But about two minutes after the entrance of the poison into the bloodstream, the person would begin to feel weak and sick. If one of her limbs is severely wounded so that the limb loses function, like a plant the entire limb would fall off and somewhere between one and two months the limb would be fully regrown. For smaller injuries like scratches and bruises, they would heal like they would for a normal person. Thorns are somewhat like fingernails or teeth, they have no nerves in them but if pulled out they would cause extreme pain. Thorns do not grow back or repair themselves. As well as the thorns, Valerie has two short vine-like structures on her back that can easily be hidden beneath a shirt unless she chooses to extend their length. Valerie has complete control over the structures and they are like extra appendages to her.
Weaknesses and Limitations: Because she is both plant and human, she cannot survive a lifetime without a human form of energy. This rule goes both ways for the photosynthesized energy. This means she can't go too long with human food just as she can't go too long without the sunlight and water necessary for photosynthesis.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: She has trained herself to be fairly fit, she is quite flexible and adequately strong. While the reflexes of most of her body are pretty bad, the vine appendages on her back are quick and almost have a mind of their own.
Fighting Style: She taught herself mixed martial arts mostly by watching training videos online so her fighting style is kind of her own brand.
Fighting Style Pros/Cons: It's pretty unpredictable because it's a bunch of different things thrown together. But that being said, it's definitely not professional and is a little bit made up as she goes along.
History Of Your Character
Valerie North was born in Flora, Illinois to Julie and Clark North. However the moment she was born it was discovered that she was a mutant. Her inhuman green skin immediately gave her away and after running tests doctors were stunned to find out that she was not entirely human. The doctors suggested her parents take their child to a cellular specialist, somewhere she could be better studied. But Julie and Clark were unwilling to expose their child to possible public scrutiny, however they knew that with Valerie's mutations, they had no idea how to take care of her. In the end, the couple decided to leave Valerie with Julie's sister, a biologist that would hopefully be able to better understand what exactly their child was. Perhaps one day Valerie would have gone back to live with her parents, but when Valerie was but a year old, her parents died in a car crash.
Valerie was raised by her aunt, Gywneth Price in Des Moines Iowa. In order to keep Valerie out of the public eye as her sister and brother-in-law had asked, Gwen kept Valerie at home most of her life. Valerie was homeschooled and on the rare occasions she was allowed away from home, she had to cover up her body with clothing and wear a hood that kept her face from being seen. Her life was incredibly bland and Valerie constantly longed to be able to go out in public without hiding every inch of her skin, but Gwen was constantly reminding her niece that the world would react unkindly towards her, creating a deep set distrust of people within Valerie.
During her teens years, Valerie became rebellious and a hatred toward humankind began to form. Valerie would watch videos of mutant defiance, shops that had refused a mutant service burned down, the Order's emblem spray painted on city hall, both violent and non-violent protests that almost all ended up with the mutants being arrested. She soon began to feel like she wanted to do something about the injustice. When she expressed these feelings to her aunt, an argument broke out, resulting in Valerie running away from home at age 17.
Valerie joined up with a small group of teenage mutant rights activists she had met online. For a year Valerie lived with them in the basement of one of the group member's parents (who were also mutant rights activists). She also stopped hiding her appearance from the public and openly stepped out as a mutant. As her parents had predicted, Valerie was met with violent criticism and scrutiny by the public, but this only strengthened her anger towards humans. During her time with the group, Valerie taught herself fighting skills in order to defend herself against 'the humans' injustice' as she had called it and began to learn how to use her mutation as a weapon. It was during this time that she was given the nickname 'Thorn'
However her time with the group came to an end when one of the members purposefully killed a police officer in the middle of a park. The horrible realty of what was actually happening around her suddenly became clear. Valerie may have hated the injustice for mutants, but she was no killer.
Unwilling to return to her aunt out of shame, Valerie moved to a suburb of Des Moines and got a job at a diner with an owner who Valerie discovered was also a mutant. The diner owner felt sorry for Valerie, but knew customers would be deterred by her presence so stuck her in the back as a dish washer. She bought a small apartment with a community garden behind it. She spent a lot of time out there and this kept any of the other apartment residents from going anywhere near it.
While Valerie's hatred for all of humankind as gone, she still has a strong distrust towards them. She continues with mutant rights activism. but instead participates in peaceful protests and has hopes to one day join the X-Men

Sample RP:
Valerie plopped down into the raggedy armchair filed with wounds from her thorns poking into the leather. Almost all of her furniture was like this, there was really no way to avoid it unless she wore long sleeves but her cramped little apartment was the only place where she didn't have to, so she decided just to live with the hole filled furniture.
She took a long sip out of her mug of coffee just as a map of the United States appeared on the screen of the small television in front of her with various symbols and words indicated weather patterns. She found it somewhat difficult to pay attention to the monotonous weatherman droning on about the winds from the south. Generally she found interest in the weather because she liked to spend so much time out in it, but before her coffee kicked in she was pretty much a zombie.
Valerie watched with unfocused eyes as the weather report concluded and a news anchor appeared on the screen. He talked about a terrorism scare at some airport in New York, but like most of those stories it ended up just being a hoax. The newscaster launched into another story, but Valerie wasn't paying attention as she took another sip of coffee.
"A mutant rights protest in Austin, Texas turns ugly when a mutant man attacked officers who were trying to break up the protest." The man on the TV announced, pulling Valerie out of her daze. "Police shot and killed the man as well as two other mutants who attacked the officers after the man was killed. Over twenty mutants were arrested and are awaiting trial." The anchor concluded.
Valerie's hand tightened around the mug while her other hand balled up into a fist at her side. It was stories like these that made it difficult to keep to peaceful protesting. She was so damn sick of seeing these tragic stories on the news. While things had gotten better for mutants over the years, it still sometimes felt like nothing had changed.

You sound like you have a similarly awkward lifestyle as I do. Wish I could say we should be friends, but you hate the dark and I'm not fond of the day. But who knows. Welcome to MRO!
