The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

For those who have ever graced the shores of England, or have stayed there for any reasonable length of time may come to know the institutions known as pubs. A concept which seems foreign and unfathomable to those from the Americas. Hence the existence of the "Jones Wood Foundry" was astounding. It was as British as one could get without actually being in Britain. Another nice feature about the Foundry was that it had private back rooms which could be booked. It was into one such room that Hades trod into on a windy Friday night.
Hades acknowledged the sole occupant of the room with a not and closed the door behind him.
"I assume that you are here at the request of a mutual friend?" Hades said flashing a card on which was printed the Logo assigned to their specific contract. Receiving an affirmative answer, Hades proceeded.
He casually scanned the room as he sat down. To the untrained eye this would look natural, but a trained observer would note the intent behind the scanning of the room for potential threats and or possible weapons should the need arise. Hades placed a round black disk on the table and pressed the center green button. The red light atop the device blinked 5 times and then turned green. Next from the speaker grills on each side of the disk emitted the sound of murmured conversations, similar to the ambient noise you would expect to hear in a busy restaurant.
"We can talk freely, there are no bugs and the white noise will mask our conversation. I suppose we should start with introductions then move onto the briefing. It appears that the client provided me with information to locate the whereabouts of the package but supplied you with information about the package, and how it should be handled. Do you want to start the briefing or shall I? My call sign is Reaper, although some call me Hades."
Reaper was his official call sign, one that he used during his black ops missions. The moniker Hades, however was bestowed upon him. There were many rumors in certain circles about "The Hades", the assassin who's skills were highly respected. Some thought that the title must be passed down from assassin to assassin, as "Hades" had been around since soon after the first world war. There were stories about his skill and accomplishments. If CS had contacts with black ops or spec ops personnel he would have heard of Hades, if not, well Hades was never one to blow his own trumped. He was one of the most skilled hit men around, not the most well known and took pains to keep it that way.
Hades continued "Experienced Black ops, wet work, armed and unarmed combat, information extraction, person and material extradition and infiltration. I gather your call sign is Cold Steel?"

Sam always hated meeting such as these. He preferred getting an envelope in the mail regarding the mission, not that he had done this in a while but meeting in a public place or as public as the back room of a ‘pub’ could be. Not to mention he was meeting with Hades. He had heard the name before but they were in different lines of work. While Hades, (Sam would never call him ‘The Hades’ it would have felt like he was talking to ‘The King‘ or ‘The artist formally known as Prince’) was in as he described Sam used to be more in the assassination, toppling dictators type of work. Sure they had their overlaps but Sam was used to working more in a close unit. Rarely with someone he had never worked with before.
Sam picked up his whiskey and took a sip. He had already checked the room out. If there were any bugs in the room they would have been frozen at this point. He had lowered the temperatures well below the threshold of most electronics before Hades entered the room. It was one of the reasons Sam had gotten there early. The light fixture was the only thing he didn’t bother with. Supposedly this was an unofficial government sanctioned mission or at least that was what Rudy had told him. Sam hated to owe favors and since he had become a team leader with the X-Men he had been doing his best to keep this kind of work to a minimum.
Sam nodded his head. He was a little upset he didn’t bother changing his name before joining the X-Men. Cold Steel was something he had gone by most of his life. It was a little late to change it now though with the loss of his eye he had been toying with the name ‘Odin’. Though if you change your name at this stage most of your credibility is lost. Nobody trusts the new guy. ”It is.” Sam said ignoring the voices coming from one of the disks. The temperature in the room fluctuated slightly as he did a thermal scope on Hades to see if he had any other surprises. Satisfied for the most part Sam sipped his whiskey again. ”Heard you were more ghost like.” Sam said satisfied he could see his thermal signature.
”No need to go over the resume. I wouldn’t be here unless Rudy said it was necessary we meet before hand. He knows I don’t like working with newbies.” Sam waved his hand and adjusted his baseball cap that covered some of the string that went held up his eye patch which was covered by some glasses. He took both off and pointed to an empty glass then the bottle of whiskey. ”Help yourself while you brief.” Sam said.
Hades did not dignify that statement with a reply. From what he had heard, CS seemed to check out, but he would know once they were on the field. Nothing like being in the thick of things to reveal what people were made of.
”No need to go over the resume. I wouldn’t be here unless Rudy said it was necessary we meet before hand. He knows I don’t like working with newbies.”
"Less resume more list of skills for aid in planning, but suit yourself." The guy had an attitude, but Hades preferred to suspend judgement until he had a chance to observe CS's skills. In some cases the attitude was well earned. Hades took out a microprojector attached to a smartphone. It projected images onto the table between them and started the briefing.
"From what the client told me, the group that stole the package is called M.E short for Mutant Exterminatus. Formed by various millionaires had their family or property threatened by mutants. Their goals are self explanatory. They pooled their resources and built a complex in the northern section of Montana, near the Canadian border. The land is private property and patrolled, civilian population is zero, wildlife consists of mountain lions, bears and wolves. On the overhead sat photo the red circles indeicate approximate locations of guard towers. During further recon there was evidence of foot patrols with attack canine units. The complex is built atop a plateau and follows standard layout for secure research facility. Central building for research with multiple stories above and below ground. surround auxiliary buildings including motor pool. Communications consists of a satellite link and a buried fiberoptic land line. The plan is to HALO (High Altitude Low Opening) in in five days, that gives us two to complete any last minute prep and finish preparing the infil and exfil routes. In 7 days due to sunspot activity there will be heavy atmospheric disturbance giving cover when they sat connection goes down. I have also made arrangements for their landline connection to be... disabled at the same time. Until I know more about the package that is all I have. There are no blueprints of the internal structure of the base that I could find. The client mentioned that you might have something on that. Oh and based on their regular cargo deliveries, they have on site power generation capabilities. Presence of adapted cannot be confirmed or ruled out. For the guard towers, shift change is every four hours and check in is every two. Your turn."
Hades was professional. Unspoken was the fact that he had already been there and done visual recon, and had tapped resources to obtain satellite images. He awaited the briefing by his one-eyed contractual partner.

Sam just nodded his head to Hades as he defended why he was listing his skills. They were going to be working on a team; Sam always tried to understand the skills of those on his team in order for a smoother mission. Sam sighed and shrugged and then listened to Hades as he gave his portion of the brief.
Sam sipped his drink for a second then cleared his throat, ”I specialize in hand to hand, and weapons, distractions, infiltration and some of the stuff you mentioned. I also have a few other skills but they aren’t really that important to this mission.” Sam said with another shrug as he tried to non-verbally apologize for not sharing some of his skills. Sam hadn’t worked on a team like this in some time. He still wasn’t super trusting of strangers in this line of work. He had reason not to.
”Wild life might come in handy if we can give them an easy meal.” Sam said with a shrug trying to make a joke. ”During said interference I’ll arrange some abnormal weather for this time of year. Though within the mountains it won’t be too odd. A blizzard and our point of entry. Visibility will be brought down to practically nothing at this time, which is when we enter the facilities and make it to the center complex. They have several layers of subbasement.” Sam paused and thought a bit. ”I say we strike during a guard change. Hit one of the towers. It will buy us some time to get into the facility. We hit another tower on the way the better.”
He sipped his whiskey again, ”The only issue will be the dogs upon entering the grounds and any adapted. Once we make it past them and enter the main complex we will have to take hold of the command room and then discover where most of the electricity on the grid is routed to. That will give us a better direction where the item of interest will be sadly the blue prints I was given aren’t able to account for the underground levels. At least not all of them, the command center is the biggest room on the first sub-level. After we take it and go from there it’ll give you an opportunity to show off your skills in information extraction.” Sam gave a smirk.
"It is a handy skill to be able to 'arrange' weather, that would be appreciated. I agree with your assessment the attack plan. And if required I would be more than happy to utilize any available skills to advance the mission." Replied Hades smirking in return. He was mollified that CS appeared to be as professional as he had heard, he had no time for amateurs.
"Do you have any information as to what exactly we are recovering. If it is something that is not transportable by hand I may need to make alternative arrangements."
This was probably the most important point and the main reason why Hades had not tried to close the meeting before now. If it was something that was hand carry size then the primary or secondary escape vehicles (ATV's and Dirt bikes respectively) would suffice and the pickup, small helicopter, would be fine. If it was anything bigger he would have to move additional resources into play. But considering the sizable compensation for the job and the connections it would open, that was a small price to pay.
"Is there any equipment that you require for this mission or will you be bringing your own? I can provide additional guns, tools, equipment, medical supplies, explosives etc. Finally are there any additional resources you wish to call in, additions to the team etc? If so let me know and I will make preparations accordingly. If all is in order and unless you have alternative travel arrangements, let us meet at the following location for pickup in three days." Said Hades displaying an address on the table before powering the down the projector and preparing to leave.

Sam shook his head. ”No, no additional persons. I’d like to keep my involvement in things like this as quite as possible. Only if we need an emergency evac. Which with our current knowledge I doubt we would.” Sam took a sip of his drink as he shook his head once more. ”I’ll bring my own tools. If you can provide some C-4 or any other explosives I’d be appreciative. Maybe a some tear gas? Might move things along nicely.” Sam said as a second thought. ”You should bring some thermal goggles.”
A sword and some of his old infiltration equipment would be enough. C-4 for a distraction, maybe. Other than that the adapteds would be the greatest challenge. They left him more vulnerable due to his lack vision, both thermal and regular. Hand to hand Sam wasn’t really worried about anything else.
”From what I was told the item in question is a pretty big mystery still. Though he said they were files. Both hard copies and digital. Sadly I don’t know any more details due to them being” Sam brought his hands up and air quoted, ”classified.” he was still irritated people pulled that.
”But sounds good. Sam poured into his glass again looking at the address and committing it to memory. Before looking up and smirking. ”See you then.” at this time Sam made no more movement other than putting the glass to his lips. He didn’t really trust Hades so he had no intention of showing him his back. He’d wait till after Hades left then once he was sure no one was following him he’d return home and start to pack.
(OCC hope you don't mind the time warping) "Agreed" Said Hades, and turned and walked away.
The airfield meet went smoothly. They met, Hades gave CS a encrypted PDA for use during the mission. On it, among other things was the employee list of the compound employees as well as background and financial data, a full profile. Hades explained that while the group kept many secrets they still had to file taxes and used online banking for automatic payroll. As they were flying to Montana Hades ran through the additional hardware for the mission. They each had an assault rifle with a medium range scope with single semi or full auto capabilities. It came with three types of ammo. Subsonic hollow point for silent sniping, armor piercing and incendiary for maximum damage. there were also two types of explosives that would cover their escape, both remotely triggered. Firstly their exfil route would be mined with S-mines that were set to explode at the average nipple height. That way if their pursuers were performing a tactical advance (advancing while aiming down a scope) they would get a face full of deadly shrapnel. The other was thermobaric explosives, also known as fuel air bombs. If they needed those well, then they would really need them. Finally there was the animal bait. A compound that was designed to send out three different chemicals to attract the three main predators of the area, mountain lion, bear and wolf. In low concentrations it would draw them close. In high concentrations it would induce aggression, prompting them to attach whoever carried the scent.
Hades dropped first, to setup their secondary camp with supplies, escape vehicles and food and weapons. He then proceeded to mine both primary and secondary exfil routes and met up with CS. It was CS's task to carry out further scouting as well as secure the primary campsite.
A number of days later they were both in the clearing, awaiting night fall to begin the raid.
"The preparations are complete. Any new developments from your scouting trip?"

A professional. That was the word to describe Hades, Sam was actually impressed he had dome some work like this in the past when he was younger however he was only working with the bare minimum information then. It was to ensure he wouldn’t figure out what was really going on then or ask too many question. Man did Sam hate how naïve he was back then. ”Not much.” Sam said with a shrug. ”Looked like there guard change was a little early shouldn’t be an issue though the others already left. Meaning we might have to run into them a little later. Either way we will be able to take the guard tower with ease.” Sam shrugged looking into his binocular.
He offered it up to Hades as he pushed himself up. He knew exactly where Hades was standing so he didn’t need to look. The air around them grew a little colder as Sam started to create a cold front. Raising his hand up then bringing it down he forced some snow to fall having some of the wind carry it in the direction of the compound. ”Sadly I have a max distance so it will only work really well when I’m in range of the towers.” Sam said with a shrug. ”Also some of the bait is already planted at the two furthest towers. If it is strong as you say then we will have another distraction soon.” Sam said with a smirk.
”The closest tower is going to be the best to hit first. I can seal the entrance with ease ensuring less people once they are out, but if they have anything heavy to move it after they come to, well…” Sam didn’t really want to kill anyone but it seemed Hades just wanted to get the job done. Sam was the one to ask for the bombs after all but he was hoping he wouldn’t have to use them. ”Ready when you are.
Hades checked his loadout, a number of daggers, a pair of silenced pistols then nodded to CS. "Right, seal the entrance behind me. Two clicks for all clear." Hades pulled up the two halves of his balaclava and vanished into the darkness of the tower. The first thing he did was to phase and walk up the walls all the way to the top floor control room. He peered down from the ceiling of the control room and observed the movement of the guards. When then both had their back turned he silently dropped down and efficiently shot both of them in the back of the head.
He then turned to observe the scene. There was much available intelligence here. After setting up a motion detector in the hallway outside Hades set to work. He inserted a thumb drive from the client onto the computer, setting up a hidden data download to the client. He checked the cameras and rosters and sent and encoded text to CS informing him that there was a group of guards heading his way and asking if he needed assistance. He then searched the guards and confirmed his suspicions that the ID cards they used contained RFID chips. Another one of the functions of the phones was an RFID scanner and mimicker. Having accomplished all this, Hades hid the bodies and then went hunting for the rest of the troops in the tower.

”Copy.” Sam responded as he kept a look out as Hades vanished and reappeared above him. Sam of course couldn’t see anything but he could feel it. It was as if Hades had powers similar to Shade. Teleporters. Sam had enough of them to deal with he didn’t like involving more in his life even with it was his current partner. Sam felt the other two heat signatures go out. He didn’t care for that but it was a mission. Something that he had to be okay with since he was a child. He might mention something later but held his tongue for now.
Reaching out with his sixth sense he felt nothing nearby other than some small heat signatures that looked similar to a four-legged friend. His phone pinged and he dared to look at it still feeling for his surroundings. The other signatures matched to the description encoded to the text. Hades asked for his help. Sam almost laughed out loud. He had been handling situations like this since he was a child. Not to mention they were in his element at the moment. Which has been said before made him a god. Sure there wasn’t as much snow as in the artic circle but there was enough.
Sam went out to meet the group hidden in the shadows of a tree or some snowdrift that appeared as he went by. There was a small group indeed but they seemed well armed from what he could feel. All of them had their hands out stretched outlining some kind of gun and one had his hand on something close by his legs. Sam waited till they passed him and then lept out from behind.
The snow around them leapt up and forward reaching the first two of the group covering them in snow that then adjusted into ice sealing the first two of the group in a thick covering their bodies but leaving some gaps for air. Sam then moved on the back one grabbing him in a sleeper causing him to grab a knife at his side. Sam turned both their bodies and straightened his posture causing one of the guards to pass out quicker. With his back turned the other two guards had their moment they readied their guns but before they could the snow shifted under them causing them to fall to their sides and on their backs. The snow then started to bury them as if the ground was trying to swallow them.
Sam stood upright and shot a controlled blast of ice at all of the guns and close range communication devices. Even if they figured a way to make them work they’d be useless now. Sam then held his phone out and texted Hades back. ‘All chill here move it along.’ Sam neglected to tell Hades that he didn’t kill anyone.
Hades saw no need to create too many bodies, so after phasing the two that he killed into the foundations of the tower, he removed a small device from his belt and attached it to the ventilation system. He phased and walked up to the control room by walking up the middle off a wall and watched with satisfaction as one by one on the cameras the remaining guards succumbed and fell unconscious. He messaged "Coast Clear" to CS and exited the building.
"They should be out for at least 8 hours, lets move."
As they headed for the camp itself Hades sent a list to CS's phone. "When we get in, these are the list of people that should be able to give us computer access to the files for this technology. I will try to find us a secure terminal, think you can capture one of these?"
When they reached the fence Hades touched it and a section became translucent. "You might want a run up. This causes some pain." He suggested knowing that when living organisms passed through anything he phased, himself or objects, it somehow interacted with their nerve endings to produce waves of pain.

Sam smirked when he got the text and his response was a little sassier than he intended, ” “I can get all of them if you want.” He put his phone in his pocket and then booked it to the main compound feeling for any threat that was nearby. There was none. Sam looked to Hades when he suggested climbing. He did the phasing thing before and he agreed with Hades. He didn’t care for it. Sometimes it hurt and all the time it made him nauseous. A pillar of ice shot Sam straight up over the fence and he landed on the other side with a roll. He stood up and then shot a beam of ice as he felt a body temperature round the corner they were closest to.
Sam ran forward and slammed him up against the wall and pushed the ice on the man’s limbs and mouth. Once he was pinned Sam looked to Hades and waved him forward sure the phasing mutant wasn’t waiting for Sam. ”Meet you inside then.”
Sam ran further down the wall until he was sure he would be closer to some possible targets. A few heat signatures sat on the other side of the wall. A three of them sitting and two of them standing. Judging by the heat in three of the hands Sam guessed they were on a break or something. They what looked like cups in their hands. Coffee was a safe bet but he didn’t worry to much about it. Even if he could use a cup.
Placing his hands on the wall Sam exhaled and forced his powers to activate rapidly dropping the temperature on the wall. Sam was sure they’d see the other side of the wall frost over but none of them moved. A few looked to it but didn’t do anything else most likely confused as to what was happening. If the wall brick or some kind of sheet steel it didn’t matter all things were easy to break through after it was cold enough. It also helped Sam might have ice wedged the wall a bit as well making it structurally weaker than it normally would be. Sam backed up and then ran into the wall his arms up coating in ice as he passed through into yet another roll. “Sound the alarm!” one of the guards said as he flipped the table some coffees and sandwiches were on.
Throwing his arms in an arc and crossing them Sam shot some ice forward pinning three of the guards together in a large sheet of ice. They couldn’t move their arms but they stumbled backwards with their free feet. A beam of ice went up at the door and then Sam ducked and threw his foot out behind him meeting one of the guards in the chest. HE flew back then Sam grabbed the only one who didn’t move and threw him to the ground knocking the wind out of him. Taking all the communication devices and badges Sam frowned. There was only one person on that list here and Sam kicked him in the chest.
”Found one.” Sam said to Hades through the communication device. ”I’m gonna try to find another one. This guy might be out for a while.”
Well he was certainly confident, although with the flamboyant way CS seemed to be flinging himself about at whim and will, Hades would be very much surprised if they did not get detected soon. This suspicion of slight recklessness was confirmed when Cold Steel promptly used ice like duck tape to seal a man in. Apparently Cold Steel was not interested that they were seen or could potentially be identified in the future. Inwardly Hades sighed.
>”Meet you inside then.”
Hades promptly set out to find a computer terminal and a place where he could interogate the targets in peace. He sent the location to Cold Steel. One thing he could say about the man, he did appear to be effective, at least up till now.
>”Found one.I’m gonna try to find another one. This guy might be out for a while.”
Perhaps not that efficient then. Hades preferred to be like a scalpel. Precise, in and out, disturbing as little as possible. Cold Steel it seemed acted more like a shotgun, lots of noise and sound but a lot less accurate.
Eventually CS managed to bring at least one of the targets that was not rendered unconscious. When Hades saw him he was pleased, this man was one of the engineers on staff, he should know what was going on, and Hades had good intel on him.
After asking CS to keep a lookout Hades proceed to interrogate the man. One of the side affects of his powers was that when Hades turned incorporeal, looking like a specter glowing with a dim green-ish light, if any part of him came into contact with a living organic being with at least a basic nervous system, he would trigger sympathetic vibration with their pain receptors. To put it simply If Hades touched you while he was "phased"/incorporeal he would cause pain. The amount of pain could vary depending on how long you were in contact with him, and how "deep" he was. The sensations generated could also vary depending on which nerves Hades "tweaked". Over time he had perfected this technique to be able to produce a stunning array of sensations and all without leaving a single trace or mark or chemical in your body. Anything from the feeling that ants were crawling all over your skin and biting you, to the burning sensation when something too cold was pressed against you to the sensation that your skin and flesh was literally melting. He had used this interrogation technique to break trained agents and spies, he had made it into an art form. Against the master of such arts, a civilian scientist stood no chance and soon Cold Steel's phone pinged with passwords and access codes.
Hades typed them into the secure terminal and made some rather disturbing discoveries. Utilizing a snooper program that he had obtained, he discovered that firstly ME had stolen some files and blueprints from the old stalker program and were working on completing the design and building a working prototype. The records that he was able to access were not complete and so from them it was hard to determine the extent of the progress on that. Another project of interest was some kind of hand cannon working on a principal that Hades did not fully understand. There was also reference to something called Adapted amplification and a few other small projects. The upshot was that there was active experiments on mutants going on.
Hades turned to Cold Steel. "So updated objectives, Destroy research, stop mutant experiments and rescue mutants and check out their anti-mutant cannon. Objections or thoughts?"
He said as he freed the now unconscious engineer from the restraints, rearranged him and fed him some whisky. Hades then splashed some on the engineer and tucked the bottle under his arm. He now looked as if he had wandered in, started drinking and got carried away. If CS looked up the profile on Mr Engineer, he would read that he had a history of drinking problems and was going through some rather challenging issues at home. As a final touch Hades injected a drug into the engineer's system. It was volatile and would leave his bloodstream long before he woke but would make his memories of the last two hours or so vanish. Mr Engineer would not even remember having been tortured. The mark of an expert assassin was to leave no trace, unlike his partner's approach.
Just then an alert popped up saying that a perimeter guard had been discovered trapped in ice and that all security was to be alert for possible mutant intruders. Inwardly Hades sighed, if this continued he would have to have words with Mr icy brashness...

He might have agreed to keep lookout but his line of sight was kept on Hades as he ‘questioned’ one of the guys Sam had brought him. His sixth sense was focused out into the hallway. At one point Sam was going to give Hades a warning but then the person Sam was feeling walked into another hallway. They were for the time undetected but then there had been the fact that they took down an entire tower and a couple other groups of guards. Things were moving a little too slow for Sam.
It seemed that Hades had the ability to phase into people as well. That answered one of Sam’s questions about the guys ability, ‘what would happen when he passed through someone?’ Sam tried to recall Fade’s ability when phasing but then was brought back when his phone ‘pinged’. Sam took a look at his phone then offered it up to Hades who then punched a bunch of the numbers into the computer.
”Read my mind.” Sam said as the room got a little colder when he saw the blueprints of the hand cannon. The hand cannon was brought back some painful memories when he thought what the hand belonged to. The reign of the stalker bots were a dark time for every mutant. It seemed the project wasn’t fully scrapped. The fact that they were experimenting on mutants just upset him fuller.
”Oh good, they realized we were here.” Sam said his expression a little darker glad he didn’t have to hold back as much. He was never that good at full on stealth missions sure he could sneak around plant a knife but he normally acted as a distraction or tried to find a distraction. ”You lead the way? I’ll get everyone’s attention?” Sam asked.
Inwardly Hades sighed. If he had known that CS would go the obvious route he would have brought a lot more weapons and explosives. He had a feeling that he would rue not bring more firepower soon. "Fine, lets get this over with." Hades replied. "CS I know that in your file it mentions your preference for non-lethal solutions and I will try to respect that, however I cannot promise no deaths. The mission is still a priority, are we clear?"
They moved into the building, the access codes from the engineer easily granting them access to the building. It seemed quiet, too quiet. The door clicked shut behind them. It sounded like it had locked. As Hades and CS passed through the next door Hades felt a wave of.... something. He felt... a little slower, a little weaker. On a hunch he tried to phase.... Nothing. moving into a nearby vacant office, Hades once again pulled out his phone and leafed through the documents they had downloaded. The data included some sketches. He turned to CS, his anger building, his tone was flat, level, calm.
"Cold Steel they have a working adapted field in this building, the whole building interior. No powers until we turn it off, and the building just went into lock down. The last time I saw experiments was during the second world war. We destroyed the lab and all the research. There is no government that I would trust with this technology."
Hades took a breath. He was not afraid of dying, he had faced his mortality on numerous occasions. Still the knowledge that one head shot and it would be permanently game over did tend to get the adrenaline pumping. He continued to explain "This "shielding effect" is created by tapping on the natural ability of adapteds. The process, from what I can read essentially renders them brain dead. Then they somehow extend the range of the field through transmitters embedded in the floors, walls and ceilings. That is why they can only do it indoors and only to this building. The power drain I believe is also substantial. This is the only working prototype. After we switch this field off, I am calling in an asset to burn this building to the ground. We cannot chance this knowledge getting out." He waited for CS's response. How would the cocksure X-man act when he was bereft of his powers he wondered? For both their sakes Hades hoped that CS would keep it together. This mission just got a lot more challenging.
