The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Shogun stepped into the ring. This was only the first round, there were lots of preliminaries before he reached the finals. This shouldn't be too hard; first to draw blood wins. There were a few other ways to win each round: make your opponent give up, cause your opponent to leave the ring, cause him to fall unconscious or be otherwise unable to continue, to name the most common.
Shogun could sense his opponent. His shroud was weak. There wasn't much too it, so he had not a lot of confidence. Darn. This was going to be too easy. His opponent drew some sort of weapon. A pulse identified it as a dagger. A dagger? What was this guy thinking? No wonder he had no confidence. Shogun drew only one of his swords. He didn't want the guy to collapse from fright. "Hajimi!" That was the judge calling them to start, but the opponent was not about to attack. He seemed about ready to bolt. Shogun sighed, and lunged. His opponent jumped backwards, as Shogun expected him too, and one of his feet landed outside the ring.
That was far too easy. He hoped that the next round would be more of a challenge.
As Shogun stepped down from the arena, he decided to head over to find out who he was fighting next. He quickly found out if there was anything in his way, and made his way over to the board with the names on. He asked one of the attendants nearby to tell him what was written, and listened as they went through the names. He recognized one of them, but couldn't place it. No matter, he'd only fight them if they got to the finals. His next fight was soon, so he decided to rest until then.
He was fighting next, and stepped up into the ring. Many of the crowd seemed to have aura's that led toward him, mainly the women. This must be the attractive guy that all the women fall for. There was always one of these, a group of girls would follow him around because he was the prettiest guy, until he lost. Shogun paid no attention to them, they were hardly ever decent combatants. "Hajimi!" The other guy hadn't pulled a weapon. Interesting. Shogun pulled out both swords and took up a defensive stance. The opponent drew something, a quick pulse confirmed it to be a rapier. That shouldn't stand up to one of his swords, but he had seen some rapiers sharp enough to cut through steel. He directed another pulse at the scimitar, and it did seem one of those sorts of blades. Ok, so don't let him block your strikes.
The opponent swung at Shogun, but feinted and instead went for his legs. No feint works against Shogun. He saw the mind ordering the muscles to move before the nerves did, and ignored the first strike, instead jumping as the scimitar swept underneath him. As he jumped, he kicked out and sent the guy flying. He landed at the edge of the ring, and got back up, looking seemingly annoyed that he had dust on his shirt. The had given up a gasp as he went flying, but he stood up and made a pose in an attempt to show that he was alright. Shogun didn't buy it, he could tell that that fall had been painful, and the kick had probably bruised a rib. Armoured shoes will do that to you.
Shogun lunged, and in knowing that he couldn't afford their swords to meet, he tried a double feint. This was a very hard move to pull off, as the guy will try to block the first strike, not be able to react to the second feint, but might be prepared again for the third one. But no one double feinted like Shogun. He stabbed for the shoulder, and then swung up with his shorter sword. The opponent tried to block the larger one, as Shogun expected him too. He swung the larger sword down at the last second, so that both swords caught the opponent in either leg, the smaller one cutting to the bone, the larger one severing it completely.
The opponent dropped to the floor in agony, blood spilling out onto the ring. Shogun ignored his cries and walked off, picking up a cloth from one of the attendants to clean his swords on. The other attendants got the guy onto a stretcher, and carried him away. He should have known better than to face the Blind Samurai.
A short while later, Shogun stepped into the ring for the third time that day. There weren't all that many fights left, and if they continued to be as easy, then it wouldn't be long before he could head back home with the prize money. He sensed his opponent stepping into the ring opposite him, and by the sound of it he was heavy. He could see the size of the guy, well over seven feet, and built like he'd be best suited to wrestling. He didn't seem to be holding anything, and a pulse revealed why. There were a series of metal bands going up his arms, with spikes in all of them, that looked to be very deadly.
"Hajimi!" The opponent wasted no time; he rushed forward, swinging out with his fists. Shogun ducked underneath the first one, and blocked the second with his sword. It clanged off of one of the bands, and they both took a step back. As he did so, Shogun stabbed outwards with his larger sword, and caught the guy in the chest. It stopped before going in. Shogun assumed that he was wearing some sort of armour underneath, but it must have been something pretty strong to have withstood one of his swords.
The opponent leant forward, leering at Shogun. A pulse indicated that he was too close to the edge of the ring for his good, but he could use that to his advantage. He spun around the opponent, and kicked him in the back of the knee. The guy dropped onto the knee, and Shogun pressed his sword against the man's neck. "Give up." Shogun knew that he wasn't allowed to kill. That would probably get him in jail, which was far too much hassle. The opponent, knowing he stood no chance, submitted defeat.
When Shogun was called up for his next match, one of his attendants had told him that his opponent had dropped out of the compitition. Shogun knew what was upposed to happen; it would be assumed he won the fight and he goes to the next round. But something that the organizers only recently introduced was that they would call any volunteer from the audience to join in. They almost always lost, but the organisers thought it made the tournament more interesting. Either way, this round should be easy.
Kitra walked into the area of the competation and her eyes went huge. She found a spot within the audience to sit. Her face had lit up with eagerness and entrancement. Kitra's attention was fully on the blind samuri and his oppenent. The samuri defeated his oppenent with such ease. Just from a single glance she could that Hunter would have an even match with him. She grinned wickidly, she knew she probably wouldn't have a chance against him. It wouldn't hurt to give a try if she could though.
She grinned, one of the organizers had asked if anyone in the audience would like to volunteer to fight. Kitra reached down acting as if she was reaching for a weapon but in reality brought a weapon into being and picked it up. Time to test her skill's with someone other then Hunter.
"I volunteer", She proclaimed loudly and walked down to the arena at one of the attendents beckoning.
Kitra stood within the ring and waited calmly with her katana sheathed, held in her left hand at her side. She was really nervous and excited at the same time. She also hoped that Tris wouldn't mind.
Tris was pretty impressed as she saw the tournament and its setting herself.......though she wouldn't cop to it. She contented herself with some good natured teasing and chuckling at Kits rounded eyes and entranced expression. Tris raced down after Kit, laying a hand on her shoulder and stopping her before she got to the arena.
"Whoa whoa whoa....Kit.....you sure you wanna do this, I mean, you love the whole sword thing and I get that.......but this guys a master."
she was fine with Kit doing this as long as she knew what she was getting into.
"........and if you do decide to go ahead with it......want me to give you a subtle hand *she winked*.......if ya know what I'm saying...."

Shogun could sense the person coming over, waving a sword around. Why did she bring a weapon if she was a spectator? Regardless, that wasn't important. He noticed what he assumed was a friend follow her, and because he could see the brain telling the mouth to move he could pick up every word of their conversation. He couldn't care less whether or not she chose to fight, but the fact that she wasn't japanese intrigue him. He hadn't fought anyone foreign, except for a few chinamen who occasional entered some of the tournaments. He folded his hands over in front of him and waited.
Tris raced down after Kit, laying a hand on her shoulder and stopping her before she got to the arena.

Kitra shook her head at Tris, "Hun, I'll be alright. I was trained by our boss. Kitra dropped her voice to a whisper and turned completly around to look at her anxious teammate. "Tris, at some point I would like you to slow his sword down. I want to lock hilts so I may speak with him. It's easier during the fight and not so noticable. Um, otherwise I think I should be good.....I hope anyway." Kitra winked at Tris and pushed her lightly back towards the audience. "Tris just go and sit. I volunteered and I don't wish to back down."
Kitra turned back towards the arena and Shogun and bowed to him as a martial arts student would to their Sensei. She stepped into the ring and stopped about four paces away from him. "I look forward to this as I have heard many great things about you and your grandfather." Kitra had spoken softly, she knew when someone lost one of their senses, that the other senses would be much more devoloped. Kitra closed her eyes and breathed deeply, she felt calm yet eager to begin. She really wasn't sure at her calmness, but it helped her to focus, to be ready and to give it her all. Her eyes opened and she looked levely at Shogun, her left hand by her hip, holding her katana, sheathed, as she waited for the signal.

He continued to listen in on their conversation. He found it interesting that one of them seemed able to slow his sword down. Maybe this would be a better fight than he expected. His eyebrow raised as she bowed, though she couldn't see it because he was wearing his full-face mask. Then Shogun frowned. How did this woman know about his grandfather? He'd have to have a few words with her after the tournament. Right now, he focussed on beating her. He noticed something about her aura; it seemed tainted in some way. It was odd, but there seemed to be a black shroud following her. He wondered what it could mean.
"Hajimi!" Shogun drew both swords, giving out a distinctive ringing of steel. He began to circle her, waiting to see what she would do. This could be a very interesting match indeed.

Kitra watched Shogun wearily. She had no idea really of what his fighting style actual was. This would be an interesting test. She also hoped that she wouldn't be a disappointment to Shogun. If she did well, then that would make it easier to persuade him to come with her and Tris to New York. If not, she hoped that it wouldn't happen. Hunter's dvd would help too. That would probably be the selling point she thought with an inner grin.
Kitra continued to watch Shogun. She would not attack first. She had little hope that that manuvuer would help her in any way. Kitra shrugged mentally, it was worth a shot though. She watched and waited for Shogun to attack her.

Shogun could see that she wasn't about to attack any time soon, so decided to attack first. He didn't want to just finish this fight quickly, as he wanted to know what this person was like. Also, with her friend standing by and appearing able to affect the battle in some way, he wanted to be cautious. He used a quick jab with the larger sword, which seems to be a mistake because it is slower, but what few people realise is that it leaves the smaller sword free to block. He aimed straight for her chest, and payed attention for any signals from the mind.
Shogun went for the first attack. As he jabbed at her with his long sword, she drew her katana and blocked the jab then brought her sword upwards, hoping she would bring his sword along. She dropped her sword sheath and pulled a long dagger (foot long) from its sheath. She smirked inwardly, 'it was always good to have a second weapon.... As she had just had it appear under her shirt, sheath and all.'
Kitra slashed upwards with her dagger. Since Shogun had two swords, short and long, she figured it was best to keep both occupied.

She blocked the jab, just as he expected her to. she drew his sword up, and reached for something. He felt a movement in her aura, just a little ripple, but emanating from that spot. Then drew drew out a dagger, and stabbed with it. He blocked it with the short sword, and at the same time swung the large one right round full circle so that it came up at her again. He hoped that she would at least step back, which would put her off balence and leave an opening for him.
Kitra slashed her sword downwards and managed to block his long sword, but stumbled slightly backwards as Shogun blocked her dagger and from the strength of his attack. As she stumbled she knew she was wide open and wouldn't be able to do a thing about it. Her only thought was, 'oh great, not again. Being constantly off gaurd was not a good thing. Kitra knew somehow that she was going to come out in a lot more pain then with her training sessions. She figured that she would end up with many bruises, a few slashes, and hopefully just broken ribs....As she would prefer not to break a hand or anything. Ribs were much easier to heal. Although she was going to be putting that on her list of things not to say or think. Of that she was quite sure.

Shogun gave off no emotion as she stumbled back ward. He took his chance to kick at her as she went, all the time watching for any counter-move she may try. He thought breifly that it was strange that she came so well armed, but dismissed the thought until later. He hoped for the kick to knock her out of the ring, but they were a fair distance from the edge, so she had a good chance of hitting the floor before reaching it. But even if she did, she'd be helpless.
As Kitra stumbled backwards, she was kicked in her midsection by Shogun. Thats going to leave a bruise she mused, wincing on her way to falling on her behind. Kitra pulled her legs underneath her and was able to land somewhat gracefully. She had landed with her legs underneath her and jumped up and charged at Shogun.
She moved in and slashed downwards with her katana and she let the dagger she held disappear, as another dagger appeared and zoomed forward in midair to hopefully slam into Shogun's shoulder.
Kitra looked over at Tris and gave a slight nod, now would be the perfect time for slowing him down slightly. Just enough so she could lock hilts with both his long sword and perhaps his short sword. As long as the long sword was slowed, Kitra could give Shogun her boss' propesition.
Tris mockingly saluted Kitra; "Ai Ai ma'am. Some slow-mo mo-jo comming up.......if I can get it to work.......Just ahh, try not to get skewered out there okay- dont really want a kebab as a friend." Using humor to mask her kinda anxious feelings for her team mate going up against a master samurai dude. But she let Kit go out there and sat in the front row watching the fight, cringing in parts, but watching in avid concentration less she miss the signal- whatever that was....
Kitra looked over at Tris and gave a slight nod, now would be the perfect time for slowing him down slightly. Just enough so she could lock hilts with both his long sword and perhaps his short sword. As long as the long sword was slowed, Kitra could give Shogun her boss' proposition.
Tris saw the nod.......and snapped to attention- oh right, that was it....cool. It had actually been good for her powers if not her worrying response watching the fight- since her freezing thing was based on the fear principle and all- her mind was pretty focused already.
She focused hard on Shogun's sword, brow creasing in her effort......she had to be careful.....didn't exactly wanna blow him or his weapon up- spontaneous combustion a little hard to explain away infront of a crowd like this.
Tris reached into herself, pulling up memories that had scared her, reached out with her hands- though not to obvious, and aimed her power at just the right object.....and kinda "shot" her power at it.....not exactly the right phrasing to explain it to herself, but the best she could do right now.
She kept watching, did it work? was the sword frozen?....She bloody well hoped so as all this effort was giving her a headache......

Shogun was impressed that she managed to get back to her feet so quickly, and was on his guard when she charged him again. But then that ripple occured again, almost as if there was a muscle instead of a dagger, and then another one just above. He instinctively launched a pulse, and saw that there was now a dagger headed his way. Fortunately, he had felt the ripple before it had even reached the dagger, and was able to side step it.
He then felt the ripple again, the same thing only it was emanating from the opponent's friend, and directed at his sword. He found his sword much harder to move now, but he had already put it in position to block the attack before it came. He frowned, confused at what was going on, but then refocused on the fight. He really needed to talk to these two later.
