Mutations
Mutation description: Randy is a teleporter, in a way. His mutation works by converting himself into a directed burst of pure kinetic energy, Randy calls this Porting. He is instantly converted into energy and travels from point A to point B. He then instantly re-converts back into solid matter. Randy is able to teleport easily up to 100 feet away in one second with a maximum distance of 300 feet taking about three seconds.
As a moving burst of energy he has an effect on objects he passes through. How much of an effect depends on the size and weight of the object. While technically traveling around 70mph the burst of energy travels as a single wave thought the air so to any object or person he passes through he will have no more effect than a fun house air cannon. Enough force to whip someone’s hear around, knock off a hat, or maybe unbalance them slightly but not enough to bowl them over.
Teleporting requires a clear and direct though. This can be done very quickly over short distances of a few feet however it will take a moment of thought for larger distances. The thought he needs to make is the direction he wants to move and the distance he wants to travel.
Randy does lack the ability to teleport anything besides himself. Clothes, or a backpack are “attached” enough to be brought with him. However he would drop his morning coffee or loose anyone grabbing him when he teleports.
Strengths:-He can teleport.
-Due to the law of conservation of mass if Randy misjudges a distance and ends partially inside an object he will continue moving until all of his mass is occupying empty space* before reforming into matter. Because of this he also does not actually need to see where he is going, just a direction and distance.
-Randy can teleport ten times in succession over short distances up to a combined distance of 150 feet.
-He stays in the same position, and facing the same direction he started in when he teleports, while he doesn’t keep momentum, if he is running when he starts he is already in a running position when he reforms so it will take less effort to start moving again.
Weaknesses and Limitations:-Randy’s maximum distance is approximately 300 feet per teleport. He has never measured exactly. It is very painful attempting to travel any farther.
-Teleporting over 150 feet in a single port, or his ten quick teleports will tire him out needing five minutes or so to rest.
-Due to the conservation of mass Randy will keep moving until all of his mass is occupying empty space, not good when you misjudge the length of a hallway on the fourth floor and find yourself outside the wall.
-Randy does NOT keep momentum. When he reforms he is at a standstill, while this could have some advantages a teleport mid jump for example would leave him falling straight down after reforming
-Randy is completely unaware of his surrounding for the duration of the teleport, this is usually not an issue due to the short amount of time. However a lot can happen in 3 seconds when he is attempting maximum range.
*Empty space is actually “fluid space” where air, fog/steam, smoke, or water exists as these are easily displaced by solid objects with no adverse effects. (Snow in the air counts as fluid, snow on the ground counts as solid)
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: Randy has intermediate training in boxing. While still a capable fighter his skill has lessened a bit with age. Also as a bar owner in New York Randy owns two pistols in case of emergencies.
Fighting Style: He uses a combination of boxing with his mutation to stay ahead of his opponents.
Fighting Style Pros/Cons: Pros:-Generally he has the upper hand in a fist fight
-Is it cheating to teleport behind your opponent?
-He has a gun, and knows how to use it.
Cons:-Randy is not as young as he used to be.
-hand to hand skill has little advantage against weapons
-He doesn’t want to use his gun. It makes a mess and gets the police involved.
History Of Your Character
As the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Peterson l, Randy lived, grew and generally enjoyed a normal childhood in Minneapolis like all the other boys and girls his age. Mutants where less well known to the general public back in the 70’s but … well it was the 70’s. Stuff was weird back then, and like all young boys Randy knew the rules, such things where for his mother’s book club gossip, not dinner table discussions or heaven forbid openly on the front porch.
The rules of course had to change when he turned thirteen and found himself magically half-naked the kitchen. The smell of cooking bacon of all things awakened his x-gene. After much yelling and screaming from his parents Randy was allowed to put on some pants and explain what he had done. All he had done, as he explained was imagining himself ten feet to the left, right in the middle of the kitchen, when he smelled the bacon. This explanation moved Randy ten feet to the left a second time, placing him in the dining room in a sitting position with no chair and he promptly fell over.
Episodes like this happened with lessening frequency as he gained more understanding of what his ability was. His parents preferred to keep the whole situation behind closed doors even still. Since Randy enjoyed watching boxing they encouraged and helped him find a local light weight league to give them a good topic of conversation when guests visited and such. Randy loved the idea and built himself up as best he could while keeping ahead in school.
This all worked out well for him until his senior year. He had a semi-finals match and dodged the wrong direction when his opponent pulled a feint. He knew he could counter if he had stepped to the left instead. Just two feet left. He was two feet left. His opponent swung through empty air. Randy quickly turned and put four hard jabs to the gut. The stadium went completely silent.
In the aftermath Randy was kicked from the league and his family was forced to deal with all the stares whispers and such that came along with mutant children. Luckily Randy was in his last year and graduated with few issues from classmates. Getting into college was easy as well since there was not check box for mutation on the applications.
College life brought him to New York where Randy worked part time as a bartender while earning a degree in accounting. Over the years he saved enough money and got enough business experience from his jobs at various bars to look into opening one himself.

Sample RP: “So, what’cha think Mr. Peterson?”
Rand Looked around scratching his chin in thought. The space was a nice size, a good twenty foot bar. There was a small stage near the back corner. A bit too small in his opinion but there was enough room to expand it and add a small dance floor. Even with that there was still plenty of floor space for tables and still making the room navigable.
“Need’s some work but it works.”Randy had come back to this location three times now. Opening a jazz bar wasn't an easy task but before anything else he needed a location. This one was his favorite so far. It was a basement level space, the entrance was almost hidden in an alley, some good signs and a railing would fix that.
“Well, if you want I can dig up some more listings but this one fit your description best from what’s on the market right now.”
“I know, I agree.” Rand smiled to Kevin. The business Realtor had been a real help. Randy knew all the inside workings of running a business but was rather clueless when he started looking for locations. They didn't have ads in the paper like apartment listings.
“The office space upstairs is really nice too. Most other places barely had a closet.”It wasn't perfect, nothing ever was, but this place came close. Randy ported over to the stage and turned towards the bar giving a loud clap. The sound echoed slightly but not too much, good acoustics for a jazz band when the bar was nice and full.
“Kevin, I think I’m set. Let’s get the paperwork together and close the deal here.”
