The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Mike waved back at Jonah with a small smile, still mulling over what Daria said in her head. He still thought that his assessment of their reaction was a fair one, but she was right... he didn't know, and couldn't know for sure.
The only thing he was sure of was that she didn't deserve to be treated like that. In his mind, he DID deserve it... but nothing could make him think that Daria did.

Jonah walked quickly across the room his head low.
"You alright, J?" Daria asked.
"Yeah, Yeah. I'm fine." he lied but continued. "Just wanted to show you something." he took his hands from his pockets rubbing sweaty palms against dry jeans anxiously.
"what?" Daria asked, his nerves running off on her. Jonah turned nervously to Mike. "Oh, he can keep a secret." Daria assured. "What's wrong, Jonah?"
Jonah opened his mouth to speak then shut it. "I should show you."
Daria waited as Jonah rubbed his hands together, a very slight green glow formed around each hand and waves of the same emerald enrgy pulsated throughout the room. On Daria's side everyrything floated Daria included while on Mike's side everything became rooted to the ground, including Mike. The furniture hit the ceiling or pressed against the floor to make the wooden boards creak.
Mike blinked as he found that yes, he could move again. "Nice," he commented, for lack of anything better to say. "Just to get the obvious out of the way, I assume your family doesn't know?"

Jonah's worried look stayed as he sat down on the bed.
"Aw, heck no." he said firmly. "Aunt Mable would kick me out and Uncle Basil...I don't even want to think about it." Jonah stuffed his hands back in his pocket.
Daria put an arm around him. "It's all good man. It's not that bad."
"Not that bad?" Jonah exclaimed looking at her in sheer surprise.
She nodded. "Yeah, I know. Sorry I spend so much time consoling other Mutants at the academy I forget its not the same here."
"They put the kids in the basement in the playroom. They're in the kitchen right now talking about you." Jonah informed.
He was quiet for a minute. He could send his mind down to see just what they were all saying about them...
"Let them talk," he finally said, before deciding on whether to listen in or not. "It's not like we can change what we are, and it's not like we should, either."

"I'm going to let them talk." Daria said nudging Jonah. "As long as I can hear it."
Jonah nodded. His room was right above the kitchen and he silently opened the door and led them down the hall to his bedroom.
When we were kids we used to listen to Gramma and Grampa talk about where the christmas presents were. Or how long we were going to be grounded for after breaking Gramma's lamps...or playing with the stove.... Daria recalled fondly.
Jonah led them into his room and closed the door, removing the cover from a vent in the corner.

Daria didn't need to be that close to the Vent anymore to hear the voices, she simply turned her ears forward and listened. Jonah stood close as did Mike.
Aunt Mable's voice could be heard shakey and nervous. "Basil, thats my Babygirl. How could that happen to Babygirl?"
"She ain't yo' Babygirl anymore, Mable. She's one of them damn Mutants now, and she can't be trusted. Them dang-on genes'll mess with her mind, make her turn on us."
"What are we going to do? We can't kick her out. She'll be going soon anyways. Back to New york."
"We have to call the police now, Mable. It's the only way. We can't let her get a hold of the restaurant."
"we can't do anything about it. She's 20 now, it's out of our hands." Mable said.
"But the contract and the will said that if she can't run it then we're in charge. If she's in jail she can't run it."
"We can't call the cops on her, Basil. You know what they'll do to her. And especially now since she's a.." Mable still couldn't say the word.
"Then we'll wait until tomorrow when we're about to handle things with the buyer. We can give her advice, have her sing it over to us since she's not going to be around. We'll be in charge and can sign it over to someone else while she's away."
Mable was silent for a moment but Daria could almost hear her nodding. She was weak when it came to Basil, he made her think she was ignorant to things of business. He would handle the restaurants financial needs and she would..cook.
Jonah covered the vent and tuned to Daria who had sat on his bed.
"You know, they practicalluy raised me since Mom and Dad were so busy with the restaurant." she said randomly. Her ears flattened against her head in the saddest sort of way.
Mike sat down behind her, putting a hand on her shoulder. He didn't say anything... how could he say anything? He'd been sure that her family would be different, that they'd get over it... so much that he'd kept insisting on it, and now look at things.
He just shook his head, trying to make sense of it all.

Daria smiled and placed her hand over his.
Jonah looked at the two obviously seeing that there was a strong bond and that he had no reason to be suspicious of Mike. "What are you going to do?" Jonah asked sitting on her side.
Daria shook her head. She was in so much shock. She knew it was coming but perhaps some part of her thought she could avoid it. "I'm going to do exactly what I want to do." she said finally.
"And that is?.." Jonah inquired.
"I..don't know yet." Daria confessed. "But I know that what ever I do it's going to be my choice."
"That's what's up." Jonah said holding out a hand. Daria slapped him a five with a half smile on her face.
She was still a bit shaken. Jonah knew there was no better time to ask though.
"You didn't leave D.C immediatly did you?"
"No.." she began "Why?"
"Sean.." he started. "It makes sense now, with his story and all.."
"Yeah." She trailed off.
"Wow." A silent vigil passed between the two, each knowing that the other was saying without the aid of any super-mental powers. After a while Daria stood. "I should get some sleep."
Jonah smiled and hugged her opening his door. "It'll be alright, Babygirl."
"Yeah, I know." she said. They left and returned to Daria's room.

Daria gave a weak smile, closing and locking the door.
"It's fine. I should have explained it all to you. My family's racism can spread to all kinds of prejudices. They hate rich people, really poor people, really arrogant people..they 're just filled with so much resentment and they feel like the world owes them something. I really think they hold the restaurant back; they are so unwilling to work with others outside the family."
She sighed. "You can see why I had to get out. The only person I really connected with was Jonah. Otherwise I was babysitting or drawing."

"Oh I don't care where I go because you're always right beside me." She said kissing him. "But honestly I have no choice. I'm, of course, going to act as if I didn't hear them speaking but tomorrow at least I know not to listen to them."
