The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Michael closed his eyes and took a deep breath, but the angry blue glow still seeped out through his closed eyelids. He wanted to scream.
Instead, he stood up and walked over to the balcony door next to his bed. He opened it, and stepped onto it, leaning on the rail to look down at the busy city at night. As he stood there, shivering very slightly from the wind blowing against his shirtless body, his anger slowly faded back to sadness.
"He was my grandfather. He wasn't 'a human,' he was my family." He looked over his shoulder at Daria. "What does it say when people think we're really capable of that just for being mutants?"

Daria didn't know what to do so she stayed put. "Ignorance, Mike. Just plain ignorance. To them, we're pretty much just animals for them to study. The base in Nevada is government run but its one of the better ones. That's why I'm glad you get to see it.
"Linda and the other Doctors who worked with me understand that I'm still Daria no matter what. You'd like them. But anyways." Daria realized she was about to babble. "Linda knows how the gov officials work and she knows they're going to ask. So basically, if anything goes wrong I get blamed, and then she gets blamed because I shouldn't even know about the base. But she knows we aren't responsible for what happened. And those charges will get overlooked. That's what she does."
Mike sighed and shook his head, and was about to walk back to the bed when there was a knock at the door. He seemed to brighten a little. "Ah, room service!"

Daria had almost forgotten, while she normally would've still been occupied with the problem at hand her mutation got the best of her and she was side tracked.
"Sushi!" she clapped her hands and bounced happily on the bed. Mking sure to cover herself with the robe as Mike went to open the door.
"I have a confession to make," Mike said as he pushed the room service cart into the bedroom. "I've never had sushi before. Please tell me that I'm going to like this."

Daria grinned. "Virgin" she teased and pulled the top off of the tray.
"Alright, here is the wonderful thing about sushi. It's become common that when they serve it, they give you options. Not all of it has raw fish. See?" she pointed to ones that had vegetables and rice wrapped in seaweed, and then others that had fish. "the orange tinted ones are spicy...be careful" she then pointed at the little porcelein bowls. "Dipping sauces. Don't ask me because I have no clue what they are called. I seem to get different one's every time." she grinned and held up a vegetable roll to his mouth.
He laughed, letting her feed him the first roll. It wasn't bad... definitely nothing like he'd had before, but that was the reason he'd gone along instead of ordering something different for himself. "It's good," he said, swallowing it down while he held up a different roll for her. It wasn't one of the spicy ones, but it was one of the ones that looked like it had more fish than non-fish in it... which he assumed would agree with her semi-feline tastes.
"Ah, thanks, that's a great thing to know AFTER I've tried one," he grinned. He picked up another one, one of the hot ones, and popped it into his mouth.

"You're a braver man that I am." she saluted him. "I never eat the spicy ones. Wasabi is a bit more intense than the hot sauce you're used to" she popped another roll nto her mouth and waited for his reaction.
And, of course, it was more intense. Mike swallowed it, looking no different, save for his eyes widening and his face breaking out in a cold sweat. Finally, he could take no more and almost dove for his drink, chugging it in great gulps.

Daria almost snarfed the sushi she laughed so hard. She watched him drink, an amused smile on her face. "Mmmmmhmmm." she ate a couple more pieces and then looked toward the bottom of the cart. There, in a cooler as if there were wine, was a carton of Milk. She reached down and laughed.
"Look" she giggled. "You had something to do with this I presume?"

Daria smiled and poured herself a glass. "oooo, it's organic." she said after sipping. the whole scene was really cozy. "I like you, you know that?" she said after looking around the room again.
"And I'm not just saying that to be silly. There is love and there is like. Not only do I love you, but I like you. I think, heaven forbid, if we were to break up" she paused, technically they had never officially said they were together, "um...if we...part, I'd like for us to stay friends. It's a very balanced relationship we have here." she said casually finishing the milk.
Mike smiled slightly. "Words right out of my mouth, although I don't know if I could have put it that well." He lay back on the bed, propping himself up on his side with his elbow. "I've never been able to really open up to anyone... well, not totally, at least. I always know that you won't judge me for the stupid things I do or have done, and I know you'll let me be there for you when you need someone." He glanced down at the pattern on the bedspread, tracing it with his gaze. "I love you, Daria..." his voice started to catch, "I didn't really realize it until those soldiers were about to take you, but I don't know what I'd do anymore if you were gone. No one understands me like you do, and I don't really want anyone to. I just want you with me..." he let the statement trail off, not knowing where he was going with it. He'd just been babbling during some parts of it, trying to get out something that was profoundly important, but impossible to put into words.
