Character Personality: Cassandra has a slightly mixed personality. Due to her unusual background, she has a tendency to never take things as face value and always question what others say, she is not very trusting either. That is, unless you already happen to hold her loyalty, in that case, she will follow and protect you to the ends of the earth.
That being said, her Loyalty is generally not that easy to earn. The only person to ever have earned her complete loyalty and trust is her older sister, Silia.
Cassandra has a tendency to get very angry indeed with humans in positions of power who make silly decisions, especially silly decisions involving mutants or equality. In fact as she is an expert at espionage and causing pain, she will seek those exact people out, and she will watch them burn and will keep a perfect poker face while doing so.
She does have a huge soft spot for any kids that have been misplaced from their families, or that are being abused in some way. Due to her own experience and any sexist, or racist comments to anyone she considers a comrade, will earn the perpetrator a massive surge of pain and probably massive humiliation.
She generally doesn't let people see the 'real' her as she finds the whole concept of having a dominant aspect to her personality, this however doesn't mean that she doesn't have such, although she will often show several layers to a personality to those around her, underneath, she is an passionate, yet cold and analysing idealist.
Cassandra has a very strong willed personality, she will automatically double check, or second guess anything someone who hasn't earned her trust says, and she has confidence in her own abilities, she isn't the type to second guess herself, or to be easily manipulated. She is the type of person to fight for a cause, and only that cause.
If Cassandra were ever to enter a relationship, she would be completely unsure of how to react, because the concept of complete, mutual trust, is still a strange one to her. She would feel incredibly awkward and would not understand what she would be doing wrong by keeping secrets.
Hobbies/ Interests: Cassandra has a variety of hobbies, although most people won't see them unless they catch her off guard.
-She loves to read a variety of novels, namely fantasy and the star wars novels. (Also romance novels, although she'd never openly admit it)
-She likes to plan out routes through buildings or write up in detail psychological analysis of the people around her.
-Cassandra listens to a wide variety of music, from pop like Avril Lavigne, or Taylor Swift, to heavy metal, and even some classical.
Job or part time job and description: Mercenary for hire.
Fears/ phobias/ concerns:She is concerned that she will not be able to find a cause which she can use to crush human powers. She wishes to see any and all humans in power to be burnt down from their little stone pedestals.
Special talents: From a young age, she has been trained in black ops techniques and Espionage techniques. This means that:
-She is rather knowledgeable in the martial art of Aikido and is also trained in the use of a Bo (Kobudo)
-She is an expert at blending into crowds and can adopt a persona almost instantaneously.
-As part of the training received from her Aunt, she has become quite good at carrying out tasks with some stealth.
-She is fluent in English, French, and Japanese (And Swedish, obviously) She also has a decent level of understanding in Spanish, but she ended up practising it less than the others in later life.
-She is also a good shot with handguns.
-Due to years of practice, she is used to fighting while receiving near constant pain.
Morality Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: You cannot really describe her as 'good' but 'bad' doesn't completely fit her either. She fights for a cause which she believes is right and would never harm an orphan, no matter what. But, she can kill without remorse and efficiently due to years and years of practice at it.
Mutations Mutation description:Her mutation is essentially pain manipulation.
-She can increase pain, giving a continuous flow of it, or she can spike it at intervals.
-Her power is not limited to causing pain however, she can also lower it.
-Her eyes glow a deep, dark green while her mutation is active.
-Her power targets the mind of the target directly, and if she focuses hard enough on the target, she can cause enough pain to make them black out.
Strengths:-She has an effective range of 10 meters, or around 32 feet, making it easy to take down targets from a distance.
-She can maintain it while fighting, even though she receives some backlash, the advantage to this is that as she is used to this, she can severely disrupt her opponents concentration, making it easier to gain the upper hand.
-Although she can only effect one target at a time, she has enough practice to switch between a few targets, giving them each spikes of pain.
-She can also use the power to numb her team-mates pain.
Weaknesses and Limitations:-The biggest weakness to her power is that she receives a portion of backlash from her ability, for example, if she caused pain, she would feel a burning sensation in her arm at about 50% the level that she was inflicting on an enemy, or her arm would go cold and numb if she was reducing pain, the feeling would gradually spread throughout her body as time went on.
-If she uses her power for about 25 minutes continuously (without breaks) she will succumb to pain overdose, passing out and possibly damaging her nerve cells.
-She can also only effect one target at a time, switching between targets does not cause much strain, but her pain does not instantaneously subside like a targets does when she stops focusing on them, it takes about 30 seconds to fade, and as the pain builds gradually, spreading throughout her body, the longer she is using her mutation, the more strain it puts on herself and therefore, the harder it becomes to switch.
-Although Cassandra has a generally high level of control with her mutation, if she is emotionally strung out, for example if someone insulted or attacked someone she cared about, she would be MUCH more likely to have a lapse in control and give them an accidental pain spike.
-Others with mental powers may be able to resist the pain more readily than people without them, if they are able to work out that it is caused by Cassandra.
-Cassandra does not require line of site, but she needs to know where they are, roughly.
Physical Abilities General Physical Capabilities: Cassandra has about as much muscle as a female who works out maybe once a week, so strength is not her forte, but the combination of her quick wits and reflexes make for an excellent hand to hand combatant.
Fighting Style: Cassandra's fighting style is extremely fluid, she changed from one martial art to the other, this is to both throw the enemy of balance, also to keep them guessing as to the nature of her 'true' identity. She also often gives them fluctuations of pain and numbness while fighting.
Fighting Style Pros/Cons:+She is used to fighting while using her mutation, feeling the pain or numbness, whereas her opponents are unlikely to be familiar with, disrupting their concentration, giving her the advantage.
+The way she transitions from one fighting style to the next means that her fighting style is rather unpredictable.
-Her mutation causes backlash to her, which can impede her fighting skill, so if she is facing multiple opponents, she is at a disadvantage unless she relies solely on her hand to hand combat skills, as opposed to her mutation.
-If she is fighting against a person with extreme resilience especially those with defensive mutations, she will have an extremely hard time causing them physical damage due to her lack of strength.
History Of Your CharacterCassandra's childhood was practically non-existent, she was born to a Swedish couple in Stockholm, and was with a loving, caring and happy family for a time. Neither of her parents were anything particularly special, the mother and father were both simple business people, secretary and manager. She also had an older sister, Silia.
However, at a rather young age, the age of 2 to be exact, Cassandra (at the time known by her real name of Sylvia Terane) manifested her mutation. A disgruntled worker tried to punch Cassandra's mother while she was at work and Cassandra was with her on the 'take your daughter to work day'. Cassandra's eyes began to glow a deep shade of green, and the man began to double over in pain, Cassandra began to cry and her mother quickly worked out what was happening.
The man attempted to report them but was quickly put down due to the claims being so outrageous.
Cassandra's father completely believed and trusted her mother and when he had an accident with the hot glue gun and was burnt and in pain, Cassandra demonstrated a similar power, except his burn stopped feeling painful, as if he had received a sedative, he then noticed that Cassandra's eyes were simulating the same thing her mother had described and also was shivering.
Shortly after, on a rainy evening, her father was returning from work and was caught in a mugging, and stabbed to death. His final thoughts drifting to his wife and daughters as the last of his life left him.
Cassandra's mother tried her best to keep them afloat but died a couple of months later of an aggressive illness. Leaving Cassandra (At the time, Sylvia) aged 2 and Silia age 4 to her sister, to their aunt. Anna.
Their Aunt did her best to take care of her two nieces, but she balanced it with a secret and rather dangerous job... Being a mercenary, who specialised in stealing information. Her secret job did pay the bills however, and also made sure that Sylvia and Silia could have a good childhood.
Anna always told the two children about what horrible creatures humans could be, and explained to them the various abuses that they had treated mutants to. Upon questioning Anna on the violent behavior of some mutants, she explained to the two children that the only violent reactions by mutants were a direct result of the vicious behavior of the humans.
Anna had decided that Sylvia in particular could benefit from some extracurricular activities, which ended up being martial arts. Anna showed Sylvia a variety of martial arts, but eventually she settled on two. Aikido and Kobudo. (Although, she only bothered to learn the Bo)
Sylvia was bullied a lot in school, especially when it got out that she was a mutant. She used what martial arts she had learned as a hobby to protect herself. Her sister also got hassled for having a mutant sister. But her sister had an easy to hide mutation, she had the ability to affect her own body temperature and resist changes in such. So, there wasn't much chance of someone noticing it.
Sylvia showed a massive aptitude in languages, and also began to take extracurricular classes as well as what she already did in school, including English, French and Spanish.
Later, around the age of 13, Silia was 15, they both stumbled upon Anna's study and found a safe which had been left open (By a drunken Aunt), which contained mission files from their Aunt. As the pair finished reading them the Aunt burst in and noted what they were doing, then instantly threw them out of the room and hid the files.
Later that evening they confronted their Aunt about the files. And she explained to them exactly what they were, Silia was disgusted, whereas Sylvia questioned Anna further on this, who reluctantly explained further, saying that the only missions she took were from mutants, retaliating to Anti-mutant crimes or extremist views.
After MUCH pestering, Anna allowed Sylvia to help her with her job. Much to her older sister's disgust. Sylvia remembered one night in particular, overhearing her sister and Anna arguing, and her sister accusing Anna of having "Planned this since the start!" among other things. This left Sylvia feeling very conflicted as she loved both her sister, and her Aunt, very much.
Anna decided to train Sylvia before she actually allowed her to help her with jobs. So she took her to the shooting range, day after day and taught her how to shoot. She was a little rocky with it at first, but after some practice, she got good at it.
Anna was talented at infiltration, stealth and espionage. So, she trained her Niece in the talents she was familiar with (Including making her keep up her extra-curricular language and martial arts studies)
Around when Sylvia turned 14, Anna told them that she was moving them to America, so that they could have better "opportunities", but Silia saw right through it, realising that the reason Anna was moving them was because she was in trouble with someone, possibly someone she had a failed a mission for.
Because Anna had undertaken a mission that went incredibly sour, for a group who didn't like failure and put death marks out on people who failed them, she was forced to move the kids and get them and herself new names, so they would not be easily found, and so that the children could not be used against her due to their last name and family ties.
Anna bought them all new identities and moved them to America, Sylvia adopted the name Cassandra, Anna adopted Jessica and Silia took on Sarah. By the end of senior year, Silia moved out and begun to attend NYU. Whereas Cassandra, now aged 16, had continued her extracurricular activities and had begun to help on missions, often going into the place where the intel was in a disguise first, and either distracting the people involved, or outright taking the intel herself.
She became more adept at blending into groups, and at sneaking around, she also learned how to lie her way through many tricky situations. The missions often ended up not going entirely as planned and resulted in fighting, this is where Cassandra's martial arts training came in handy, and her mutation, which by now due to years of practice, she had excellent practice with and a high level of control.
She started attending high school in America, where she found another language she liked. Japanese. She began studying it, although she obviously wasn't nearly as good at it as she was at English, Spanish or French. (Or, more obviously, Swedish.) She also joined Dojo's for Aikido and Kobudo almost immediately after starting high school, to keep up her skills.
She graduated high school. And began to take on more and more missions, also she had the free time to visit her older sister more. Her sister, who had changed her legally changed her name back to Silia, was worried about how little trust Cassandra placed in others and for her safety due to the missions she went on.
She did still manage to pick up some teenage stereotypes such as a love for music which older people (Namely Anna) Thought was awful. That being said, she still enjoyed some of the classical stuff that Anna listened to, but Anna did NOT enjoy Avril Lavigne and whatever else she heard Cassandra listening to.
For Cassandra's 18th birthday, she received a bullet proof jacket from Anna, who had been slowly taking on less and less missions and encouraging Cass to take on more herself. In her missions Cassandra often came across information about a group called "The order", she was confused as to what this group actually did, as some sources portrayed them as criminals and some pro-mutants sources portrayed them as Crusaders.
She asked Anna about who they really were and she admitted to not knowing, and said that she never worked well in groups anyway and discouraged Cassandra from doing so.
Soon it became clear to Cassandra why Anna had being slowing down so much, she had the same aggressive illness that Cassandra's mother had. She passed a year later, leaving Cassandra what little money she had left after the move to America.
Cassandra decided to attend College in New York, like her sister, studying foreign languages as she already had an interest in them, she also carried on taking jobs on the side, under the mercenary name "Reaver" (Something Anna had suggested jokingly long ago.)
By the time she had started college, she was already fluent in English and French. And rather decent at Spanish and Japanese. She ended up actually taking interest in Japanese over Spanish.
Since she had started college, She took on a wide variety of fake identities, to help her purchase things that she needed, without being traced to her and for certain jobs, where she required an alternate identity.
By her final year of College, Cassandra had also become fluent in Japanese, but her Spanish remained a little edgy as she hadn't been practicing it constantly as she had the others.
Cassandra finished her course at the age of 23, upon doing so, she decided that she would attempt to further investigate this "Order", as they appeared to be a kind of mutants activist group... although, she became annoyed that there appeared to be very little solid information on them.
RoleplayWhere did you learn about this site?: From Shin.
Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who:Serena.
Sample RP:18 year old Cassandra moved through the ball as if she had been in this situation a thousand times. Really, she was here undercover, having taken a mission to steal some information from the rich family who was hosting the ball. They had been pedaling information to various underground anti-mutant groups.
Whereas Cassandra and Jessica (Formerly known as her Aunt, Anna) were here to steal the information from them, to sell to a group of people who would rather not have this information just given out to people who would use it to do harm to mutants. For that matter, She didn't really want them to either. Humans were stupid.
So here she was, under the guise of Lisa Landas. Of course, because she needed to get into a high society ball and if they caught onto her or her cover was blown, it would be silly to come under her actual name. Or rather, her main Alias, as she didn't go by Sylvia anymore.
Her ear piece crackled and her Aunts voice came to her ear. "Lisa, how is it going? I'm nearly at the pick up point."
Lisa moved across, switching dance partners, pressing her palm against her partners and then slowly moving away without attracting too much attention to herself. "Yes, I think I might have found a window to sneak upstairs."
Lisa silently cursed herself for not having her USP hand gun with her, she would feel more comfortable having it with her, but she needed to maintain her cover and it would have been difficult to hide.
She moved up the stair case, after checking to see if anyone was watching. She glided up the stairs, in her ball gown which was an emerald green. She heard voices.
Lisa quickly ducked behind a corner. She heard the two people laughing about some people’s dresses and suits. And then they moved back down the stair case. Lisa continued on her path to the main office of the head of the household.
She waited for him to leave the room as she could hear breathing inside. A text tone filled the air, he rushed out. She peered around the corner to confirm that he was completely gone. Once she decided that he was far enough away for her to quickly sneak into the office unnoticed, she made a break for it.
She noted that he had left his safe open, this suggested to Lisa that he would not be gone for very long and that she should be quick. What this also meant, was that she would not need to dig for things, she already had an ideal place to look. She moved across to the safe.
"I wonder how much these would go for..." the woman murmured to herself as she looked through various files and noticed the jewelry also in the safe. She then shook herself off. She was not here to make money, well she was but she only made her money from doing things that were justified.
She found what she was looking for. Various files on mutants, some higher profile than others. She grabbed it. As Lisa was about to take the info to a drop point, she heard the floor creak from the other end of the room.
"HEY! What do you think you are doing?!" the man from earlier ran towards her, fists at the ready, to pummel the young woman.
She met his approach with an icy glare and activated her mutation. The hazel eyes took on a deep green colour and a familiar burning sensation began to spread through her arm. Not a massive one, but enough for her to notice it.
The man winced. He carried on coming towards her, probably thought it was just a pain spike from pulling a muscle or something. It was a pain spike, she had just caused it. The man swung a punch at her face. She was ready, Lisa took a step to the side and grabbed the side of his arm, using his own momentum against him to throw him to the floor. He landed with a thud.
His concentration had been disrupted much more than hers by the pain.
She followed with a swift jab to the back of the neck, just below the skull, rendering him unconscious.
Lisa stood up and dusted herself off, and then proceeded to exit the ball, after hiding the information in her hand bag. She left the party, ready to meet her Aunt and give her the information. She had completed the task, and even if her cover had been blown, it was just that. A cover.
