The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

A million dollars. An actual person with an actual million dollars.
Well, that explained why Allison could afford to give away sunglasses. Not why she lived in that place, but at least the sunglasses. Aiden belatedly realized he was staring at Cafas and looked back at his bowl. Just... wow.
"I think I'm safe from having to make that call," he said rather weakly. He was far too unknown (and uninterested in acting) to be asked to do something like that. Plus he'd probably be really, really bad at it. Seriously, he didn't know how to act around real, everyday people half the the time. What was he supposed to do if he was pretending to be someone else, while dealing with people he didn't know who were pretending to be people that didn't even exist? It would be horrible. But the money.
"Yeah, that was the place." Not much of a sanctuary if there were murderers there. More like a total death trap. Moving there would be suicide. Potentially of the Schrödinger's cat variety to anyone who knew him. Worrisome was also a bit of an understatement. "Personally, I think the good people are just a little bit insane, considering some of the, er, worrisome people." Maybe worrisome was the best word after all. He really didn't want to actually call Isabel or anything or anyone else, 'extremely disturbing,' 'scary' or 'terrifying enough to make him run away as fast as he possibly could...' much less all three at once.
"Yeah, well, I was mostly joking when I made the suggestion to the producer who'd come to offer Allison the part. He gave me the part though. Right place at the right time I suppose." Cafas closed his eyes and tilted his head back. He'd have been looking at the ceiling if he had his eyes open.
"Yeah, that was the place."
"Personally, I think the good people are just a little bit insane, considering some of the, er, worrisome people."
"You're not the only one mate. Believe me, that place is all kinds of bad news. It's too deep in gang territory for the police to touch it too. That's the unfortunate thing, those crazy bastards are untouchable." Cafas shook his head, which played with his delicate balancing act something awful. He barely kept it steady, using one foot under the table to stop himself tilting any further back.

So... they were desperate for people? Didn't sound so promising, but then the source material promised nothing but horribleness. It was only appropriate that anything spawned of it would be little improved, if at all.
It made Aiden feel a lot better, somehow, that Cafas agreed with him about Sanctuary. It did make him wish that Allison wasn't living there, but it was her choice and surely she knew what she was doing. She must have connections there that kept her safe. Aiden deliberately avoided thinking about the way she had called to Isabel and spoken with her. Allison probably had connections with other people there who could help protect her from the people like Isabel.
Although maybe his early thought about her had been right, if Sanctuary was actually in gang territory.
Wait, he'd been in gang territory? Seriously? No way. That only happened in movies and books and things. It didn't happen in real life. Did it? And he'd survived to escape. That was starting to sound way better than it originally had. A gang powerful enough to house someone like Isabel and protect her from the police, as Cafas said, and Aiden had walked in and (run) out without so much as a scratch?
Huh. Apparently his morale gauge wasn't broken, it was just sitting at zero up until now. It was still close, but still. He wasn't quite sure, but he did kind of wish it had been broken. The fact that he had actually been that down that the little boost that came from hearing he'd escaped from a total death chamber of mafia-level doom made a noticeable difference was kind of depressing all on its own.
"A woman with a really oversized bow, like she was heading to an anime convention or something." Despite the bow making most of the immediate impression, it was probably going to be impossible to completely forget her name now. "Isabel."
That was the last straw for Cafas' balance. the start he got from that information ensured his chair tipped just that little beyond the point of no return. He fell to the ground with a crash. It hurt a little, but he laughed it off. It took the edge off hearing about Isabel just a little.
He stood and brushed himself off, stood the chair back up, and sat down again. "Well, I've never met her personally but her reputation precedes her. It's probably wise to not annoy her if you ever come across her again. See, I know Aura personally. I imagine you've seen enough of the news to know who she is." Gods knew everyone else did.
Cafas was quite happy Aiden had come to the Mansion. The last thing that they needed was impressionable young people spending time with Aura and Isabel. In fact, the less people who came in contact with that pair, the better.
Cafas felt like there was a connection he was missing. Something about Isabel, and Allison. He couldn't quite put his finger on it. Still, he was sure he'd make the connection at some point, so he ignored it for now.

Aiden wasn't expecting Cafas to actually fall over. Sure, the thought had crossed his mind when he started leaning back in his chair, but generally adult people who did that knew what they were doing and had no issues staying upright. "Are - are you okay?" he asked hurriedly and starting to rise from his own (properly balanced) chair, but relaxed and settled back down as Cafas started to laugh. There hadn't been a loud enough thunk for him to have brain damage and be laughing from blunt-trauma-induced insanity, surely.
"I have no intention of going anywhere near her again," he said. Aiden really didn't get more serious than he was now. The name Aura seemed about as familiar as Isabel's face had before he made the connection between news reports and actual flesh-and-blood individual. Another infamous murderer? "I've never paid much attention to the news, but the name does sound familiar." At any rate, someone else he didn't want anything at all to do with.
While they were on the topic of dangerous people, though... it had been on his mind now and then, ever since running into Allison and Isabel. "There aren't people like that here, are there?" he asked quietly, not quite looking straight at Cafas in his nervousness at actually voicing the concern. If there were, there was nowhere else he could go, but could he really stay here?
"I have no intention of going anywhere near her again,"
"Smart move. But unfortunately, life gets in the way of plans like that an awful lot." Like his plan to never see Meld again after his first experience. That went poorly. Or his plan not to kill people ever again... Well, that one was kind of his fault... repeatedly.
"I've never paid much attention to the news, but the name does sound familiar."
It aught to be familiar, with the amount of killing she had done, and how publicly she had done it. It was a wonder the judge hadn't killed her yet. Though not for lack of trying he was sure. "Yeah well, she's potentially worse that Isabel just for pure insanity." At least, so his experiences of her told him.
"There aren't people like that here, are there?"
"What, at the home base of the X-men? No, there aren't. At least none so sloppy or insane, because we haven't noticed them." Cafas was fairly confident that aside from him, Saph and Calley, there weren't too many murderers at the mansion. Then again, it was hard to tell, especially with the sort of turnover they had in the way of residents.

... Stupid life.
Well, if life tried to be stupid and unhealthy like that, he'd just have to work harder to keep it from succeeding. Maybe he could stay in this place for the rest of his life. Isabel probably wouldn't come here... would she?
Wait, this Aura person was worse than Isabel? How was that even possible? At least she wouldn't wear a giant bow, though, right? Aiden swallowed and doodled an abstract splotchy thing in the last remains of pudding. If she hadn't been distracted with Allison, there was probably no way he could have gotten away from Isabel. How was he supposed to get away if he came across her again, or if he ran into Aura? Especially Aura, if she was worse. He wouldn't even have the warning of recognizing a distinctive appearance as almost-certainly-lethal!
Right. Aiden had kind of forgotten about the X-men. And that this was where they lived. Hey, there was a lot going on right now. He was allowed to let some things slide on by. Still, remembering that they were around was reassuring, even if he wasn't entirely sure they were doing the right thing. At the very least, they didn't go around killing people. They were plenty public about being around to protect people. He took a deep breath and tried to relax. Right. This place was safe. Probably, according to Cafas. That really didn't help, that bit. Smart, sneaky serial killers were always the most dangerous, weren't they? Because they could keep killing and killing and killing without ever getting caught or even suspected. Still, overall he did feel a lot better about the whole thing. "Thanks," he said quietly.
"No problem." Cafas looked around. It was late, dinner was done, and the conversation seemed to have ground to a halt. "Well, probably time to head to bed, I get little enough sleep as it is." Cafas smiled at Aiden and stood up, stretching. He suddenly felt a lot more tired than he had before.
Must be the chocolate.
"Night Aiden. Keep safe, and remember, you're not your genetics, you're not your mutation, you are what you make yourself." Cafas smiled, nodded to the kid and walked out of the kitchen. He padded back up the stairs, climbed the stairs, walked to his door and went inside. He couldn't tell, in the dark, if Calley was there.
Guess I'll find out in the morning.
He brushed his teeth, washed his face, threw most of his clothes into the laundry pile, then fell into bed, pulling the covers over his boxers clad body. The spring air still wasn't warm enough to sleep without them, which he was acutely aware of as it blew in the perpetually open window. "Night Calley."

Right sleep. Aiden should probably get some of that too. He didn't get around to moving quite yet, though. He did still have to wash his dishes. And probably think, except since he wasn't drawing or anything, his chocolate pudding rush was getting replaced by exhaustion pretty quickly. He could think later. Or, better, avoid thinking about anything. That sounded safer.
Once Cafas was gone, Aiden slowly pushed himself up from the table and carried the rest of the dirty dishes over to the sink. Pushing the water on without really paying attention, he managed to keep from yawning but not from starting to fall asleep without so much as noticing that the water wasn't hot. There was enough soap to get everything clean anyway, though, so it wasn't as if he was going to be putting dirty dishes away.
By the time he finally finished, Ai was indeed yawning, and yawning every few steps. He made it out of the kitchen, only to realize he'd left the lights on and had to trudge back, shut them off, and then find his way in the dark.
... Probability of coming across anyone else at this hour? Hopefully pretty low. Aiden glanced around just to be safe, and then pushed his sunglasses down enough that he could see over them and get back to his room without killing himself in the dark. He succeeded in that at least, and in avoiding further people, and only put his sunglasses on properly once he reached his own door. He slipped inside as quietly as he could, since talking to Persi was not something he wanted to do right now, and dropped into bed. Sheesh, late nights weren't supposed to be this tiring.
