The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

”Ah, a teenager.” Sam said trying not to laugh most of the young teens he knew were either under the impression that they knew it all or didn’t know enough. It seemed that this wasn’t the case with Victoria she did just turn thirteen though so that might change in a year or two. ”Well, you wouldn’t be my youngest student I ever taught.” Sam said aloud though more to himself than to Victoria.
Placing his hand on his chin he thought for a second then shook his head, ”No lessons is no good.” Sam said holding his thinking pose. ”You like to learn Victoria?” Sam asked lowering his hands and placing them to his side. ”I am a teacher and a teacher needs students right?” he asked rhetorically. ”Might as well do something productive when I can’t sleep.” Sam said again to himself more than Victoria.
”Ever wanted to take a self defense class before?” Sam asked the girl as he looked up to the moon where the god room was hiding, ”Danger Room, two punch mits size Sam. Density…” he looked to the girl then decided she’d need softer gloves due to her size. ”Beginner.” a pair of bright red padded gloves with a black back formed on Sam’s hands. ”What do you say, you up for some knowledge?”

Victoria turned and looked at Sam with a curious expression. At first she thought he was mumbling, or was he saying something to her? He called her a teenager. Gasp She had become a teenager. She hadn’t really thought on it till now.
Thankfully her mind was diverted as Sam spoke about teachers and lessons. “Yes I like to learn things, and yeah teachers need students. How else will they teach?” That was an odd question for him to ask. She understood the first question clearly however.
“Self defense class?” She never knew such a thing existed. Then again…she never needed self defense before. No one ever tried to hurt her because they never had the chance to. Just then a pair of gloves appeared over Sam’s hands. What was this for? “What kind of knowledge?”

Sam clapped the mitts together then threw a hook then an uppercut while keeping his guard up his knees bending with each punch to the air. ”The best kind!” Sam said nodding his head his classes in his opinion were the best and it wasn’t like he played favorites with himself and his subject when it came to other subjects and other teachers. Nope not what so ever.
”I’m gonna teach you how to defend yourself and those you care about.” Sam nodded his head as he walked over closer to Victoria and crouched down. ”You want to learn how to defend yourself right?” Sam asked knowing the answer at least his version of the answer, who didn’t think like him in this regard?
”Can you make a fist?” Sam asked pulling off his glove and demonstrating his definition of a good strong fist. His thumb wasn’t tucked between his palm and fingers but rather under the fingers. Too often did new students enter his class thinking this was the proper way to make a fist to throw a punch. The problem with that way was if you hit too hard with your fist you’d run the risk of breaking your thumb.

“I want to keep my friends safe if I can.” Family and friends meant the world to the girl, and being away from her parents made her friends her new family. More importantly, some of her friends had become very special to her. Victoria would do anything she could to keep them safe.
Watching Sam throw what looked like practice punches Victoria figured he seemed rather excited about this topic. His question regarding making a fist was answered with the girl holding up her right hand in a tightly clenched fist just like Sam’s own fist. “Yes, I can do that.”

Sam smirked when she said she wanted to protect her friends and then she copied the fist he made. Good, he had a new student one that couldn’t go into the sun without burning. Meaning he was now going to have to switch some class hours around for a night class or two meaning less sleep. Sam was oddly okay with this, just meant he’d have less time to worry about everything else going on in his life.
”Good!” Sam nodded his head with a smile before walking closer to her and crouching down. Slipping the glove on Sam held one in front of the other and placed them a few inches from his chest and held them at the right height for Victoria to punch into them. ”Now, pay close attention.” Sam said as he explained to his student, ”I want you to punch the glove as hard as you can in the dead center alright?”
Tightening his grips on the gloves he didn’t expect much power from the girl she was small and young meaning she had more energy than power meaning he really had nothing to worry about, there was just one more thing he forgot to mention, ”Just don’t lock your elbow when you hit.” he waited for a second and fixed his lone eye on her before he nodded again, ”Let it rip kid!”

Victoria continued to watch Sam as he showed signs of liking what she said. Then he knelt down to her height. She watched him move his gloved hands up to his chest level. Understanding his instructions the girl nodded.
Her arm cocked back as she twisted her upper body to give more force to her punch. Focusing on hitting the glove in the center she let it go and pounded her fist into the middle of Sam’s hand. Innocent big red eyes looked at Sam for his reaction. “Like that?”

Sam nodded his head to her question as she asked it however it was too soon because he didn’t quite notice the pain in his hands, or his chest or the fact that his feet were now off the ground and he was on his back coughing trying to get some air into his lungs. ”Great….” wheezed Sam as his hands fell to his sides and he quickly exhaled the left over air in his lungs making it that much easier to catch his breath.
After a few moments Sam pulled as much air as he could into his lungs and stood up he wasn’t injured at all just surprised that this tiny little girl packed that much power. ”So, to add being hurt by sunlight you’re strong. Noted.” Sam stood up and brushed himself up and held the gloves into the air, ”Computer, Medium density for the gloves also calculate force exerted from Victoria.” Sam looked down to the girl and gave her a quick smirk. ”You’re just full of surprises aren’t ya?”
Sam crouched down again and then held the gloves up this time getting a better stance ready to take the impact given from Victoria’s punches. ”Hit it again!” Sam told the girl as he waited to see her punch again.
The moment the man was blasted onto his back from the punch, Victoria blushed from embarrassment. “I’m so sorry! Are you ok?” She was worried she might’ve hurt the teacher. Boy would she be in trouble if she had.
When he recovered his composure she let out a soft sigh of relief. The girl was glad she hadn’t injured the man. Again she blushed slightly at his remark to her strength as well being full of surprises. If he only knew.
Sam reset himself and apparently changed gloves for another shot. “You sure you want me to do it again?” She noticed he had taken up more of a braced stance. Maybe he really was ready for her to hit again. Shrugging her shoulders she did the exact same thing as before and connected her fist with the center of Sam’s gloved hand.

”I’m fine.” Sam said nodding his head, as she hit the mitts again. He was still surprised by the power she was packing. ”Didn’t know you were a little powerhouse is all.” Sam said nodding his head again as he was silently encouraging her to continue, ”If I can’t take a hit like that and be alright I got no business teaching a class like this do I?” Sam asked her his feet digging into the soft ground a little when she hit.
”Good!” Sam said as he slowly stood up and then held up one of the mitts towards his face, ”You can throw a punch pretty well for someone so young. You sure you never had lessons before?” Sam asked continuing to praise her. She seemed like the type of student to excel under praising, nothing like Mirror or Koga who only pushed themselves harder after he gave them a tough time with the occasional kick in the rear.
Taking off the gloves and tossing them towards the ground on one of the large sunflowers Sam bent his knees and took on a fighting stance ”Next bit of tonight’s lesson is a good stance.” Sam got into said stance then continued, ”Everyone’s body is a bit different though a good fighting stance is pretty universal.”
Keeping his body facing Victoria he recited what he tells all his students, ”Feet about shoulder width apart, knees slightly, bent elbows in hands up in a guard. Make sure your looking through your hands and not at them.” Sam got out of the stance to see if Victoria would mimic what he just said.
“I guess I’m kinda tough.” Victoria bashfully replied with another blush. She liked being girly and for people to think that of her, but she could be tough if she needed to be. With Sam being a teacher and wanting to help her protect her friends the girl was going to be as tough and strong as possible to show she could do just that. “Yeah I guess you’re right. Do you ever really get hit though?”
“I’m sure. No one ever tried teaching me how to punch. I guess I just did what felt right, and I’ve seen fights on TV. My dad used to watch them.” Truth was, she never threw a punch until now. She never had a need to. The people she fed on were caught completely off guard by her strength alone that they were easily subdued. Now knowing there were other people in the world with abilities made her think someone might actually try fighting her someday. Might as well start learning everything she can in hopes of being the better fighter.
Sam took off the gloves and at first Victoria was worried he was going to ask her to punch him again. Thankfully he had a different idea. Something new to learn. She liked to learn.
Watching him and listening to what he said the little blonde girl tried to do what he said. She even looked down to check the distance between her feet. Her knees were bent, elbows bent and tucked in, hands up by her face and red eyes looking past them at her teacher. “Is this good? I’m not really sure if my feet are as wide as my shoulders. I can’t measure them together.”

”Not bad,” Sam said noticing she was looking through instead of at like she was instructed. ”I used to have the same problem, just look to your shoulders then down to your feet. They should be somewhat under them.” Sam got into a wide stance and brought his feet further than shoulder with to make it obvious, ”No good.” he then brought them in making his heels almost touch, ”No good.” he then put them shoulder width apart then nodded, ”Where home is at.” Sam said not remembering how he learned what a good stance all too fondly.
”The reason your feet need to be about shoulder width apart is because you gotta be able to move.” Sam taking on the stance again sidestepped a to the left a few times then to the right till he was back when he started. ”Remember the best block is not being there.” he sidestepped again with ease on account he had been doing most of his life and teaching it like that. ”Movement is one of the fundamentals of self defense you dictate the movement you dictate everything.” Sam said sounding very sure of himself.
Sam stopped and lowered his guard till he was standing casually, ”and to answer your question from before, yes. I get hit often. I work with the police on occasion.” Sam said not mentioning anything about the X-Men figuring she didn’t need to know anything about that till she was older. ”You hit harder than most of the big scary looking guys. Which is saying a lot.” Sam said nodding his head again, ”Got any other tricks like that up your sleeve?” Sam asked jokingly hoping she could shoot ray beams from her red eyes.
”Alright I think I can teach you the four basic punches and a few of the kicks tonight if you are up for it.” Sam said smiling to the girl. ”But you gotta practice on your own alright?”
Per Sam’s helpful advice Victoria looked at her shoulders then down to her feet and estimated their distance apart. She hoped they were close enough to where they needed to be and not making her look silly. That would be terrible.
Her attention went back to her teacher as he began showing how to move from side to side. She liked his statement about not being where someone is striking. That was probably something more for quickness though. While she could work on her quickness she wasn’t sure if that was going to be her main focus. “That sounds nice but I can take a hit. It’s happened before and probably will again.” As for his next statement, she had dictated everything during her feedings because she surprised her targets and overwhelmed them. It worked good for her, but she was happy she didn’t have to do that anymore. Not with Kait and Serena around.
Victoria was impressed when Sam mentioned working with the police. “Oh that’s great! Do you volunteer with them? I bet you catch lots of bad guys huh?” Her giddiness filtered through her words and body movement. “It must be exciting!”
He returned to commenting on her punching power and something clicked in her mind. She remembered him shouting something to the computer. “Umm...Sam? You told the computer to calculate how much force my punches create right? I was curious what it was because I’ve never known myself.” The girl’s cheeks took on a little rosy hue of nervousness. “I was wondering since you said I hit so hard.” She then looked at him and smiled. “I don’t break. Is that a good surprise?”

Sam didn’t continue on with his current thoughts about the lesson he stopped thinking about teaching the girl to punch and kick when she said she could ‘take a hit’ like it was nothing. This made him a little weary no matter how strong someone is there is always someone stronger in some other way. He wanted to yell at her and tell her that she shouldn’t be so cocky but he had to remember she was still just a kid. He was young and invincible too.
Sam reached up and touched his eye another reminder that something could always go wrong. He brought his hand down to his side and shook his head in Victoria’s direction as he calmly explained, ”You might be able to take a hit with the best of them kid. Just keep in mind someone is always out there who is stronger.” Sam pointed to his head, ”Need to use this, just as much as you use these.” Sam held up his hands and turned them into fists, ”and you can’t do that if someone knocks you out.” Sam waited for a second before he added, ”If your gonna be one of my students you need to do as I say got it? Meaning don’t be there if someone is trying to hit you. Got it?” he asked making sure she understood how serious he was about this.
After he verbalized the importance of not being hit he then touched on her power question, ”I can tell you right now you punch harder than most guys my age.” he paused then added, ”But you’ll only get stronger.” he decided it best not to tell her how many pounds of pressure she exerted with her punches the main reason being he didn’t want her to constantly compare her future punches to the ones she had now. There would be good days and bad days some days she’d punch harder than others. It would be too easy to get upset about not being able to outperform this lesson with these particular punches.
”I guess you could say that.” Sam said about helping the police, ”Every now and then they call me to help them with a problem or two.” Sam smirked when she was showing she was excited about him working with the police. ”Some days are better than others.” Sam then turned back into a fighting stance then said, ”It’s a good thing you don’t break that means I don’t have to baby you then huh?” Sam asked before turning his fist so his palm faced up. ”First punch, upper cut. Palm facing the ceiling power comes from the knees and hips.” Sam demonstrated a proper uppercut one that involved him bending his knees and shooting up using his hips to rotate giving it the maximum power.

The reaction from the man wasn’t a pleased one with regards to her ability to take hits. She had upset her new teacher and yet he was keeping his composure. He must’ve been doing it for her sake. In response Victoria lowered her head slightly and felt a little frustrated with herself as she listened to Sam. She replied in a softer tone. “I understand.”
When Sam spoke about her strength she didn’t have much to say as he only gave minimal information. However, knowing she hit harder than most people he knew was still something. Victoria smiled when he mentioned she’d only get stronger. That was good to hear as she wanted to be strong enough to protect her friends.
Refocusing and taking a deep breath the girl watched when her teacher showed her a new punch. She tried to mimic his movement through the punch but her coordination was a little off. “That feels funny. Like trying to jump but then not.”

Sam gave Victoria a sympathetic smile when she said she understood. He was tempted to pat her on the head and tell her ‘good girl’ but he decided against it for now. She was a smart kid, and she seemed eager to please which only meant that if she did run into trouble she’d do what he told her, not be there. At least that was what he was hoping for.
Sam smirked when she started to mimic the punch he just demonstrated, ”Almost, that just means you are getting the power behind it. Which is good, remember whenever you punch keep your feet on the ground. If they leave the ground you lose the majority of the power.” Sam demonstrated a few more times to Victoria till he was confident she had the first punch down. ”Good, think we can move on from this one.” Sam said nodding his head reassuringly to the girl.
Turning his palms in but still having a tight fist Sam brought his body into a guard position and fired out one fist then the other from the guard still palms facing in. ”This one is called a front punch, notice which foot is forward. Right foot forward right hand striking, front punch.” he fired out his backhand, ”Just like the front punch only it is coming from the back hand. We call this one a reverse punch.” Sam fired them both off again, ”Front punch and reverse punch are speed punches meaning there is a lot less power behind them, they snap put fast and back even faster.” Sam fired them out a few more times till he was sure Victoria could mimic without a problem.
