The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Sadly expected." He tossed the wrap and dangly jewel back behind the curtain and a soft 'ow!' was heard as it thwocked somebody who had been listening in. Jude smirked.
"I'm taking my lunch now."
It wasn't Letitia who poked her head through the back curtain like he expected, but Julia, age 12. "If you leave we have no Oracle."
"We don't have any appointments today and you can always call me if someone shows up." His tone was much kinder and respectful toward Julia than it had been toward Letitia, or Evelyn for that matter. "Or you could call Alister." He grinned as Julia's face soured.
"Ms. Holmes, please don't think our family is like this usually." He smoothed his hair one last time. "When I met zem, zey were happy." They were all happy together for a time. Until Jude went off on his own? Nah. This wasn't his fault. This was Noel's fault.
"If you want food, you're free to join. Need to clear my head." A different power would be fabulous too, but it looked like he was stuck with teh shades until he knew he wasn't needed here.

Evelyn was surprised to see the figure behind the curtain. Her echoes were a little late on the warning this time, and she chided herself for letting her attention fall. The figure that stepped out was young, and there was a certain politeness to her companion she had yet to see. He seemed to at least behave himself around the young girl, which was notable to his personality. Perhaps he just disregarded adults because he felt he deserved their respect, while someone younger than him didn't threaten him the same way...
She tucked the information away.
At his remark, Evelyn gave a small smile, and chuckled lightly. "Thankfully, my gift is good at picking up on more than what's on the surface. I can see that you care about each other, but the strain of what's happened is creating the more evident tensions. It's like chips on glass, weaving cracks through everything. Distorts what was there before."
He didn't blame himself for what happens. The blame seemed to shift from the way he talked and the way he acted. He was still childish, in a way, but there was also a manner to him that was as adult as his age was. It seemed odd, and the echoes were a little confused by it. An age shifter would behave like a child always, but something about him spoke of the years that would bring him to the point he was. Perhaps seeing the future did that. She didn't pretend to understand everything about mutants.
His invitation did manage to surprise her a little, considering the wall he placed up when she arrived. Yet maybe that was directed more towards his father than anyone else. "I am a bit hungry, if you wouldn't mind the extra company. I usually just eat lunch at the museum but today was my day off and I've just been wandering." That was true enough. Part of her was still curious about this new stranger. She couldn't quite sort out everything about him. Some people read like a book. Others were more like a maze you had to travel through.
Chips in glass. "Elegant and apt description." Not really an image he wanted rolling around in his head currently, though. Hadn't he already though of Ghost as fragile? This had better not break her.
What he really needed was distraction. Ghost needed time. He could go back to that future later and make sure nothing crazy happened and- he stopped that line of thinking. Just what he needed distraction from. "Could use the company, honestly."
"Food preference?" He held the front door for Evelyn and then checked his pockets for cash. Living without a proper adult identity had its drawbacks, but Jude wasn't about to do illegal things if he did not have to. "I have enough for a sit down place." Thank goodness because fast food was just awful.
There was an open air cafe with greenery within eyesight. It was always less awkward to keep the shades when he was outside. "Ever been zere?" He pointed to the place not quite an entire block away.
"You don't look like you are used to being surprised." He had noticed. Julia was sort of an expert on sneaking up on people. She was slow and deliberate: the yin to Crow, their groups yang. This was a much more acceptable line of thinking. As a former psychic, he hated to let his thoughts go unmarshalled.

>> Food preferences?
Evelyn gave a small shrug and pushed her hair from her face, breathing in the outside air as they exited the building. The echoes grew louder, scattering in different directions and picking up details along the way. The architecture of the buildings, the expressions on the pedestrians, the different cars rolling past. It took a moment to tune it out and draw herself back into the conversation. "I'm not particularly picky about what we get. I've found part of living in New York is the experience of trying new things." She admitted breezily. Her echoes picked up on his shuffled through his pockets, and she spoke up politely.
"You don't have to stress money too much. I can more than afford to pay for myself." She focused on making it neutral and non-defensive. If there was one thing she'd learned lately it was that turning down a mans attempt at chivalry was one of the quickest paths to insulting them. However, with the funds her family had she would feel rude not speaking up.
She glanced where he pointed, and her echoes skimmed her memories. She had walked past it a few times, but never taken the time to eat there. "No, I haven't. The food always smells good though." She commented. His next remark wriggled into her mind and brought a light chuckle to her lips.
"Surprising me takes effort. Being observant is pretty much my identity so the rare occasion someone slips under my radar is noteworthy. She's quiet, and I applaud her for her ability." Out in the sun, Evelyn's pale hair looked white, and even after the baby's mussing of it the locks still settled back into place in a collected manner. She walked with a straight posture, and moved with a sort of light elegance that came from the family of class she'd been born into. Her confidence came from her powers, and that added to her demeanor. In secret, part of her enjoy being surprised: it challenged her to try harder and reminded her she still had room to grow.
Yes, but could she afford to pay for Jude? He grinned. "Actually, I was worried I wouldn't 'ave enough for me. Some weeks ze fortune business is good money, othzers... Well, you saw how many customers we had today." So Ms. Know-it-all could be wrong. Jude supposed the real Holmes could be wrong too, it was just rare.
Jude nodded and then let Evelyn lead to the restaurant. In part because he probably just surprised her and he didn't want her thinking he was purposefully antagonizing her. Small things could make the biggest differences in how one was perceived. The other reason he let her lead? She was flippin' confident. If the devil is in the details, this little temptress knew the best way to get there. Pot holes and traffic be damned.
"Most people enjoy surprises so long as zey are not unpleasant." They both hopped a bit to get over a broken patch of sidewalk. This city would always be under construction even if there was no such thing as mutants. He couldn't tell if a car had done that or a fist. "Unless you are a full time Oracle, of course." Good thing he was only part time.
The restaurant did smell good. Jude paused by the menu at the front to see what he might want and then went with Evelyn to request a table for two outside on the patio.

Evelyn gave a small smile, and chuckled lightly. "I can more than afford to pay for you as well, if you don't mind the action. My parents may not have been the best in the whole child-rearing thing, but at least they didn't leave me without some financial backing. The museum is fun to work at but would be more difficult to live on long term." It was the politest way possible to discuss her financial situation. Running around saying you had rich parents usually ended up with some form of mugging, a type of situation Jensen typically frowned upon.
The echoes guided them towards the restaurant without much issue. There was no real way to avoid the damaged sidewalk, but a dainty hop got her over without much ado. Unlike Jude, her echoes took a quick glance at the damage and identified the subtle fist mark in the indentation. Mutant, certainly. She smiled slightly as she turned back to him, drawing the echoes away before they could analyze the broken fragments. "Suffice it to say that surprises in my life have the uncanny nature of being unpleasant. Should they take a turn for the better, perhaps I'd enjoy them a bit more." She remarked lightly.
Walking up to the restaurant, Evelyn gave him a moment to study the menu. She shot a quick glance and let the echoes put the details to memory, and considered the options as they went to request a table. The chicken cordon blue sounded nice, and she was fairly hungry so the meal wouldn't be too heavy for lunch.
"I find the present difficult enough to deal with. I couldn't imagine dabbling into the future. It seems too liquid... unstable." She remarked once they were seated. The waitress had gone to retrieve their drinks (she had chosen a lemonade), and the outdoor eating area wasn't crowded with people which was nice.

Ghost
He could be insulted at having a cougar offering to buy him lunch, or he could enjoy a free lunch.
Free lunch won out.
Plus, y'know.
Cougar.
Ehe.
"I won't say no to a free lunch if ze offer iz on ze table, but all ze same I do 'ave enough. Just so you know."
Ahem. Not that he was into cougars. He had a girlfriend. Who may also be quite older, but that was entirely beside the point. Svetty was blonde. This woman had white hair.
Jude ordered water, no ice. Silly Americans and their ice fetish. It was unnatural and probably why so many of them got sick so often.
"I like ze fluidity of ze future. Some sings need changing. If you only knew how many sings we've managed to keep from going wrong, or sings zat we stopped altogether." 2 huge world altering disasters and so, so many minor ones. Jude had even managed to take out the notorious thug Mittens, with a teensy bit of police help of course.
Jude leaned back in his chair (which wasn't comfortable, but habits die hard) and stretched.
"What's so wrong withs ze present, if I may ask?"
Once that waitress came back Jude requested the chicken caprese sandwich.

Evelyn shrugged at his remark, and didn't make a big deal about it. She didn't care one way or the other if she paid for him, but most guys just seemed to resent it. The way he seemed to consider it for a moment confirmed that, but perhaps the desire for free food was more enticing than pride. He had accepted after all. That was a start.
"Preventing something from happening would be nice. But wouldn't you ever worry the future you create doing that would be even worse?" She remarked, taking a sip of her drink when the waitress brought it back. His casual manner of leaning in the chair, and his attitude suggested he was far less concerned by what he couldn't see than what he could.
It was the opposite for her. "The present has more immediate consequences. I read something that I don't act on, I usually find myself watching the results before I know it. I deal with what I can though and try not to let the things I can't change bother me. I guess that's why I tried helping Maya."Ghost he had called her. "Maybe I can't see the future, but I can see people when they hurt, when they're upset. Can tell when they feel lost, alone... Maybe I can't help, but I can listen."
Their orders were placed and it would take a short while to cook, so it let a moment to consider how she felt. "The present is full of lots of information, but it is lacking on answers."
"I can't explore every future, no, but I can explore my own choices and zen act on ze best one. Besides, just about anysing was better than a nuclear device being detonated in Manhattan." He shrugged. One possible future had shown them a knock down drag out fight, but it hadn't ultimately come to that. The future was funny like that.
He nodded along with what she had to say. Their powers (well, his current power anyway) were very similar in many ways. "You can't save everybody," he confirmed. "And you can't chase down every detail. Not and keep your sanity." Though maybe Holmes could. He didn't know the particulars of her abilities.
"I am glad you were zere, honestly." He sighed. "I don't sink I would have done it withsout prompting and I am not sure Ghost would have asked withsout your prompting." And now they were back to that. He'd wanted to get away from there.
> "The present is full of lots of information, but it is lacking on answers."
"I would say zat ze future has many answers if I were selling somesing; but, in reality, most times more information just begs more questions." And surely someone who went by the name of Holmes had plenty of questions on hand already.
Evelyn blinked, a small look of surprise drifting across her face. Somehow, when he talked about changing the future she hadn't really expected that to mean saving the world. Heck, even saving New York. "Nuclear device being detonated in Manhattan? Well, that is certainly more eventful than just doing some palm readings..." She admitted, and took a drink of her lemonade.
>>"You can't save everybody."
Evelyn nodded, but a small look of sadness crossed her face. She poked at the ice in her cup with a shrug. "Well, it would still be nice to do more than I can. I've meet a number of mutants, and they have such unique abilities. Just...being smart doesn't feel like much of a power. I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel somewhat limited." She remarked lightly. Her powers were completely non-combative, and that had put her in more than one dangerous situation.
She let the conversation drift away from his mother. For once, she listened to the echoes that showed she was making him uncomfortable.
"So how did you end up in the whole future business anyway?" She said curiously. "If you don't mind me asking..." She added.
Yes a nuke. A nuke Sebastian was going to detonate. He pushed that thought aside in favor of something more... Productive. "Zere's sings you can do, I'm sure."
Jude was brainstorming alternate uses for the power of smartness when their food arrived. "If you went out withs a team you could be tactical. Not directly in any fight, but influencing zem all ze same." He shrugged. Beyond that... Infiltration of some kind? That required a very specific kind of situation, though. "Dangerous, but if you put your brainpower in danger don't you sink you'd be ze best one to figure out ze extent of what you can do?" You had to push a limit to find one.
That was all well and good to talk about on a sunny spring day without any real threats at hand. Actually doing it would be quite another thing.
> "So how did you end up in the whole future business anyway?"
He puffed out a breath and cut his sandwich down to more manageable pieces. "I saw ze future, of course." He let her chew that over for a bit before continuing. "I met Ghost in ze first major catastrophic future zat was averted. We worked closely and she knew my past so, once she saw zat same future she and Sebastian came to get me from ze orphanage. Seeing zat future unfold once was enough for me."
He took advantage of his sandwich while he considered his next words. "Ze next future I saw ended withs me nearby as Sebastian set off ze nuclear device. I... Ran away, so to speak. Found someone to activate my own abilities, but... activating zem early got me somesing different. I pushed Sebastian away, but zat wasn't enough to avert zat future. I ended up sticking around to be sure we could find a way to stop it and," he shrugged, "never got around to leaving. I keep meaning to, but... You know..." Another shrug. He felt useful and effective with this power.

>>"Zere's sings you can do, I'm sure."
Evelyn stirred her drink again, and frowned thoughtfully before taking a sip. "If there are, I wouldn't really know. Had a handler most of my life, parents that would probably have bought a castle with a tower to lock me if they could have. I feel like I could be more capable, but life hasn't really let me find out."
Perhaps it was her fault for putting up with it so long. She got a job, she tried to do her own thing. She let Jensen stick around and while she tried to rebel from time to time, it usually just ended up with them being 'right'. She got in trouble on her own. Kidnapped or attacked or the wrong person found out who she was. Heck, she was sitting having lunch with a complete stranger. A complete stranger who she was also quite certain wasn't the age he appeared to be.
He could be twelve for all she knew.
She glanced at him again, then their food arrived and she set to work cutting up her chicken. "It would be fun to be on a team... I got a change to fight the cookie monster with a few mutants a while back and that was actually pretty ...fun? I don't know, sometimes I feel like I'd be a liability but I think that's because I haven't learned to fight to that standard yet. Then again, I guess maybe I could be one of those super-nerd. Get a com-set, call the shots." She laughed slightly both at how ridiculous, yet plausible, the idea seemed to be.
She listened as he spoke about his past, or, future it seemed to be. The future he saw, the one he turned from, the one that brought him to this point. She gave a slow nod, echoes picking up on the slight guilt he had, and frustration both at Sebastian, and perhaps himself. "I almost envy it a bit, in a way. At least you found your place. The serious nature held for a moment, before she gave a little smile. "Things may not be perfect but hey, you get to wear a turban and a fancy jewel." There was a light twinkle in her eye as she took a bite of her food. She was trying to help avoid making things too personal for him, as a courtesy.
Then again, with her luck she would just insult him anyway and back to square one.
A handler? Like... someone to take her on walks? Or meet with her once a week to keep from drinking? It sounded more like it was someone to be her parents when her parents didn't want to be. That was something Jude could deal with. Nobody wanted him either.
"Zere is an Institue norths of Manhattan. They run mutant teams out of zere if you're interested."
Also. Cookie Monster? He touched his chin, no, he touched his forehead, no there really was no way to cover up his grin. "Okay. I'll bite. Why did you fight ze Cookie Monster?" Also the idea of Evelyn throwing a punch was juuuuuust fabulous.
Of course, she had to turn it around on him. "Hey! I don't get to choose my uniform!" He sounded offended, but by no means did he look it. "Ze place is run by children withs no taste whatsoever. You saw the furniture!" Purple. It gave him the shivers.

Evelyn felt a small smile cross her face when he mentioned the mansion, and she gave a little nod of her head. "Actually, I've been there. Those mutants I mentioned I ran into went there, and after Big Bird tried to shiskabob.....well, probably better to start at the beginning of that story. Not that it'd make much sense one way or the other."
She took a drink, then reiterated. "I was walking home from the museum and there was this mutant kid who created these giant mutant monsters in their sleep. I guess they were taking a nap or something in the park because halfway home this giant Cookie Monster starts spitting cookies everywhere, that cut through trees like metal. The other mutants showed up, and since I was already kinda stuck there I told them the information my echoes came up with. Which went pretty well until the kid brought Big Bird into the mix and it stabbed me with one of it's feathers." As she voiced the story out loud, she momentarily wondered if he believed it or not. The whole incident felt surreal and she could only imagine how bizarre it would have looked from the outside.
"As for your uniform... I doubt anyone who objected to the purple furniture would have chosen to wear the jewel." She chuckled. She took another bite and tried not to laugh further. "As an artist, I can appreciate the desire for different colored decor."
He was eating —well, trying to eat— when Evelyn dropped the Big Bird bomb on him. Jude sputtered.
Disbelief melted into wonder. "You're not even joking." He put the sandwich down for safety's sake. "If zis were any othzer city, I would call bull." He shook his head. Ridiculous. Cookie Monster? If Rowan had taught him anything, it was that there were much better shows to turn lethal these days.
>"As an artist, I can appreciate the desire for different colored decor."
At least she vindicated his sense of style by letting the headgear slide. The decor really was all Letitia's fault, though. "Different, yeah, but not prune. Never prune." And now they were both chuckling. Jude attacked his sandwich once again.
"You know, I didn't expected you to accept my offer for lunch, but I'm glad you did." He had really changed his mind about this Holmes person. She didn't seem too much a prude anymore.
Friendly moment over.
"So! You know what I do, you mention a museum and art, what exactly do you do?"
