The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Aura was a frequent person in Sanctuary's Foyer. SHe liked seeing the Mutant's in sanctuary up close and since this was the primary gateway in and out of Sanctuary she got to see many of those who came, she never was able to talk and meet them all and even after so many years here, she was amazed to see the verity's of powers that existed. So few powers were even close to the same and to Aura each one was a thing of beauty that defined the Mutant's path in life. Some recognized her from various wnated posters or the few dozen
So Aura sat in one of the leather chair's petting the fur of what at first glance would have looked like a very fluffy cat. At least what Aura called a cat, the skunk however simply laid in her lap looking like it was ready to pass out.
It was then, the skunk, known as Solkat darted away from her loving master, having spied a small bird who had likely come in through the golden door's at some point. Aura quickly ran after the skunk. Aura had little fear for her pet's safety, Solkat had been in the Sanctuary for years with no one bothering her much at all. Aura pursued as well, but Solkat turned faster then Aura ever could hope to, and while the skunk took a sharp left, Aura shot past, tripping and falling onto the floor, hard, the pink aura around her body kept her safe, even as heg hit a pedestal and destroyed a vase.
It was then a small black nose and beady eyes looked at her from the doorway. Aura had to wonder of the cat was laughing at her somhow.

After rather rudely getting kidnapped from the coffee shop, Evelyn was feel a bit ruffled, to say the least. Sure, talking with Syn and exploring the Sanctuary a bit had been interesting, but she still wasn't sure if this was a place she was interested in staying. Part of her had wanted to refuse just out of spite. But all of that was still up in the air. For now, she figured she could at least try to get some form of air, although she wasn't sure how far this whole being kidnapped thing would go. Maybe she wasn't supposed to leave. Maybe Shade would reappear if she did and she'd be back where she started.
Oh well, was worth a try.
She hadn't made it far, however, when a small bird came zipping around the hallway. The tiny thing barly missed a collision with her head, and she quickly ducked, echoes giving of a sirens alert in her mind of the exact species, color, and rough age the animal was. She missed most of it because her attention was quickly split when a white caa-----skunk, came prancing around the corner after it's prey.
She blinked at it, and then heard a small noise just on the other side of the corner, with a strange pink glowing coming behind it. The skunk turned and peaked around the corner to invistigate.
Evelyn peaked as well.
"Are you ok?" She asked quietly, glancing to see who was there. Cautiously, this time. She had more than enough excitement today as it was.
Aura''s pride shattered as she looked up and saw a witness, a rather cute one at that. Standing she heard glass break under her foot, and she was glad for her aura. Her aura began to fade, and Aura controlled it so it looked like her aura was flowing up her body and into her slightly open mouth, until the last of it seemed sucked away. In reality she had made her aura fade as it went ip, maintaining the flow only on the surface.
"My pride has seen better day's but i am unharmed. I was chasing my cat who was chasing a bird. " she said pointing to what was clearly a skunk to anyone else. "I do not recall meeting you before, I am Aura" she said with a freindly smile. Still anyone who had watched the news or saw wanted posters had a very good idea who Aura was. She had made littile attempt to hide it until the past year and even then had been attributed, rightly and wrongly to many more deaths.
"I have lived here, is this wonderful human free haven for a long time now. As you may already know, no humans are aloud in sanctuary. " she said cheerfully, as she scooped the skunk into her arm's with no fear at all. Scratching the top of it's head, she was curious to get to know this new girl and find out what she could do. It was not the best way to meet somone, but it did not matter.

Evelyn couldn't help the mild fascination she felt watching the stranger get to her feet. The pink energy around her seemed to be acting like a personal shield, keeping the glass from injuring her and enabling her to get out of the glass unscathed. Then the energy trickled back up into the girls mouth like it was some form of spirit she was drinking back up. It was creepy, and a little bizarre, but that did seem to be the type of things that she had come to feel most comfortable around lately.
Then again, the cat/skunk confusion was what threw her off a bit. "Caaatttt----well, I am glad you were not injured. Nice to meet you Aura. My name is Evelyn." For the moment, she kept her nick-name to herself. Last time she showed off her powers it got her stuck in this place. She didn't want any further fiascos at the moment. "And actually, I don't really know much about this place yet... Kinda got kidnapped from the coffee shop. My trip was a bit unplanned, and I hope I never had to be in a car with a teleporter driving again..." She murmured under her breathe and straightened her skirt. She still felt ruffled from the whole ordeal.
As she watched the skunk/cat get pet, she could understand a bit of the confusion. The animal behaved much like a cat, even if its species was clear to her echoes understanding.
Kidnapped? Aura had no knowledge of that and Aura wondered if it had to do with the order. The Telaporter? She overheard her mention and with that figured out Shade was connected. She kept that to herself though, as Shade may have discolored her opinion of the place already. "Well, please do not let that fully shape your opinion of this place. Sanctuary help's out mutant's whose pasts can be classified as ....troubled" Aura said taking a few seconds to find the right word. It was a vast understatement but perhaps one that was not to scary.
"I can answer any question's you may have, i have lived here for quite awhile" she said knowing she was easily one of the longest staying members in Sanctuary. She knew the place very well to and knew if she was not suppose to take this girl outside Lisa would stop her. She fought back her urge to ask about the girl's power, even if she was very curious.
"Sanctuary offers free food as well as way to train your gift and a roof over your head. Many of us at Sanctuary have no other place that would welcome us. The police rarely come to this part of the town as well, they know better" she said with a laugh. Unless it was the MRU anyway but even then, their numbers were limited and their were many places to hide in the area around Sanctuary.

"Sanctuary help's out mutant's whose pasts can be classified as ....troubled"
"I don't really have a 'trouble' past." Evelyn felt herself blurting out, and pushed her hair from her face, cheeks a little pink. Her echoes were starting to hum to life as her memories were piecing together the identity of this mutant. She felt a small chill go down her spine, but kept her demeanor as calm as possible. She didn't want to admit she was as intimidated as she felt. "I... I don't even really know if I am a mutant. I'm just good at solving problems, and notice things... I don't know if this is really quite the place for me." Evelyn said, crossing her arms across her chest defensively. The longer she was here, the more careful she felt herself becoming. It was like being a rabbit in a cage with hunting dogs.
She was willing them not to take a good sniff and discover what she really was.
"I've got a place in the city, and it's been nice enough. It's lovely you help other mutants though."Lovely.... her mind echoed.
She just told a mass murderer she thought it was lovely that they let other dangerous mutants stay at their house.
It felt like she was telling the mob boss it was lovely they kept their accomplices out of jail.
[Pink energy aura, defensive or offensive. Can be used as a weapon, regarded as a dangerous mutant by the MRC.]
Aura raised her eyebrow as the woman said she might not even be a Mutant. It sounded like Denial to Aura but Aura scanned the area for anyone who might have overheard. She knew their were Mutant's who might have tried to play with the Human. Aura figured their were few actual humans dumb enough to say they were human inside the golden doors.
"Your lucky then, Unlike you Many of us have had to suffer for what we were. After my power emerged the Human decided to use and train me in front line combat. We were just learning we had powers, only My Aura kept me alive. In the end the Humans decided to get rid of the program, over 200 of us were slaughtered and only two of us lived." She said, her Aura flickered around her hand's as she spoke. "When i got to this city i had no idea mankind and Mutants were not in open warfare, so i fought. Sanctuary has taught me my errors, I kill far less these day's" she said truthfully . She had grown much since she came to Sanctuary.
"Powers can Mutate is various way's though, not all are obvious. I met one Mutant who could travel through people's dreams, for example. I also knew a Mutant from my past, who could alter Memories and make you remember thing's that never happened. Your power may well be exactly what you said. An Ability to see thing's other can not. " she said choosing to believe she was dealing with an unsure Mutant.
"Feel free to ask me anything" she offerd unsure how much the girl knew of Sanctuary.

Evelyn slowly blinked her eyes as she listened to Aura speak, and gave a rueful smile at what was being said. There was still the feeling of danger standing here in front of the other mutant, but she was slightly intrigued by what was being said. that was her fatal flaw: curiosity.
Especially at the mention of a mutant that can alter memories. "The ability to control memories would be a blessing, I should say.... Some people long to remember. I long to forget.... Her expression was slightly wistful, and she felt her guard dropping ever so slightly. "However, I've yet to see an advantage to being a mutant. You talk of how you've suffered for what you are. That's all I've ever seen being pegged as a mutant does. It causes problems. I've yet to see the advantage of accepting such a title..." She was toeing dangerous grounds here. She could insult Aura with the wrong word choice, and her echoes drew up memories of what could happen. But she needed to know what it was like on their side of the fence.
She'd always been taught mutant was a dirty word she should try her best to stay out from under. Like a scarlet letter, it would mark her for life.
"Tell me, what sort of life is there for a mutant? I've found society has a rather dark attitude towards u....them." She couldn't quite draw herself to say it. It felt like a bitter word on her mouth.
"You may be right, memories can be very painful things. Their is much i wish was wiped from my mind as well and other thing's i wish were far more clear." she said recalling her own mentally tangled group of memories. SOme of which had lead her to attack people thinking she was somewhere else entirely. Though she had worked through most of that, her memories still haunted her from time to time she she still recalled many of those she would never see again.
"Humans fear us the same way any animal does a predator. We are their evolution and their replacement. We are what we are and weather he reveal it to the rest of the world or not is entirely irrelevant. In deed many of our people are better off being unknown. The fewer of our people who must have blood stained hand's the better, for learning to kill is one thing, it's when taking a life no longer matters one becomes to soiled for this world" she said unable to diretly answer what advantages their were. Aura's knowledge was limited and focused so she had provided what she could.
"One can however take pride in what they are, knowing we are the future. I know to little to tell you advantages to being a Mutant. I know how to fight, i can tell you how deep to stab to hit any major vital organ in a body or how to extract bone's from a body with the least damage. I can not and will not try to tell you life is better for those of that can not hide." she admitted. Aura while she knew how to lie, rarely did if she did not have to.
She stretched a bit before going on. "Fate has a path for each of us, not all of us are meant to fight. I suppose if their is an advantage to publicly embracing your mutant hood it would be pride. The surrounding area's of this place are mostly mutant held as well, so this area is very friendly to our people" she said unsure if she answered what Evelyn said at all.
Evelyn listened politely to the girls words, but wasn't sure she really found much to help her in one direction or the other. Sure, she seemed content being a known mutant, but she could defend herself. What would Evelyn do? Psychoanalyze them to death? Her abilities could only get her so far. In fact, they seemed to do more harm than good.
"Admittedly, I don't feel like the future. I just feel like an object to be tossed around. Being a mutant isn't exactly something I'm proud of at this point. I guess I just don't feel so useful. You can defend yourself. You can attack someone who belittles you, you have powers to make people respect you. My powers make even mutants uncomfortable. I know too much. And there is no way to not know."
"Our powers are like out limb's they are there for us to use. Still i think i know how you feel. Our powers seem to be able to do so little in the grand scheme of thing's. I recently found out their are 7 billion people on the planet, after looking up how many people that was, i realized the people i killed were a drop in the bucket. Still i feel we must all do what we can, new mutants awake every day and i can only hope to provide them a world where they need not fear being what they are. I know my path will likely see me killed one day, i can only accept that and embrace it. " she said with a smile.
"Still all of us are useful, even if we can't always see it. Nature does not give us anything we don't need. If everyone could fight, the fighting would never stop" she said unaware that her statement was somewhat false. Aura had been tought that when an army had nothing left to fight, it fought it's master. This has been a justification on why she and so many others had been told to through them selfs to the reaper.
Annnnd once again, Evelyn was sitting around having a pleasant conversation with a serial killer.
The realization seemed to dawn when the girl spoke so calmly about how insignificant the number of people she killed seemed to be. As if it was sad that amount wasn't more. She had a feeling if she didn't manage to get out of this place, that would happen more often. True, Evelyn's echoes made her fairly understanding of other people. She could understand each person had their own view of good and evil, and had a decent level of curiosity about what those levels were. But that didn't mean she agreed with them. She certainly wasn't going to celebrate the number of lives lost and she wasn't going to become a murderer.
In a way, it scared her though. Because she understood. She nodded in agreement. Their powers were sort of like an arm or a limb. They were something they couldn't control and couldn't get rid of. This girls abilities to kill were part of her, just like Evelyn's echoes were. Did someone else view her echoes as such a gruesome thing as she regarded Aura'a ability to kill? Likely. That made it hard to see Aura as anything but just another shade of grey in the infinitely complicated world.
Evelyn nodded slowly, and remembered why she'd come down this hallway in the first place. She needed to get out of here. She needed to go home.
"Maybe, someday I'll see things like you do. But I think right now, it's still hard to. I think your Sanctuary is lovely: your golden doors, your ideas, and your unity... but it's not my cup of tea at this point." She waited for some dark shadow to reach out and drag her back into the clutches of the building. But the echoes weren't picking up danger yet. Just trying to guess the age of the skun-labeled-cat.
Aura was disappointed but she understood Evalyns view. Living at Sanctuary also meant one was a mutant and most people knew that. Aura could only hope her own personality had not colored Evalyn's view to much. She knew Sanctuary would never be what every mutant wanted either. It was a shame but she could hope that one day she would see what Sanctuary had to offer. It occurred to Aura being kidnapped likely did not help matters either, it made a poor first impression.
Seeing Evalyn looking at Solkat, she smiled. "I found her during a raid by some Mutants with animal powers on a zoo a few years back. They set all the animals free and me and a an old friend were passing by, it was quite the show. I found and kept this one and that was several years ago. " she said looking fondly at her Cat. She was quite attached to the creature and it seemed to be to her. Despite having free roam of Sanctuary and even outside, Solkat always seemed to come back.
"I can guide you to the door if you wish" she offered. Unless ordered otherwise she would not knowingly keep another Mutant against her will. Lisa would know though and they would have to pass her desk in order to leave.

"She's a lovely animal." Evelyn said with a bit of appreciation. Sure, it was a skunk, but the color was unique and the behavior was certainly intelligent. She tried not to judge anything too quickly. In the end, there always seemed to be more under the surface she just hadn't sorted out yet.
"I think I know the way, but thanks for the offer. And all things aside, the conversation has been enjoyable. It has certainly give me something to think about." While she still didn't know where she stood as far as this group of mutants were concerned, this was a new viewpoint for sure.
"Thank you" Aura said happily. She could not quite recall the last sincere comment her pet had received. Most people if they gave one were sarcastic though Aura rarely pressed the issue. smiling a long hanging hair she glanced down at her pet with a smile. Solkat was a lovely animal who despiter she chock she cauded people the first few times seeing her got a long with most people at sanctuary. Aura had never heard a complaint anyway.
"I have enjoyed talking with a lovely rose as yourself as well. No matter what you decided if you need help, i can usually be found here. In the end we each must be true to ourself's. You must choose what you feel is best for you, as must we all when given a choice at all" she said with a smile.
