The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Serena had decided that instead of spending the WHOLE of her Saturday studying, she would go shopping... Which she hadn't done in a long while, so her she was headphones over her head, dancing in a store with music while flipping through CD's.
She was wearing a sleeveless blue top and had a hoodie with her, but it was in her bag at the moment due to the heat in the mall, she had her blue hair pins in, her straight blonde hair a little past her shoulders, eyes sparkling with warmth. She looked like a very happy, very giddy teenage girl.
Rise against, Avril lavigne, Bon Jovi... there was so much here that she liked, the list went on for ages! Although they were having a 2 for 1 sale, so she figured she could pick the two she liked most and should grab them.
She could hear faint noises coming from outside, the mall had appeared rather busy as she walked through it, but Serena assumed that it was probably just because it was a Saturday afternoon.
The sound was slowly getting louder, but Serena dismissed it, it was probably just people getting busier, her attention was all currently focused on what she would be listening to this evening.
The hair tie twisted in her hands as she slid it over and around the bunch of hair she was holding. Up it went, and around. The pony tail was tied off. Amelia glanced in the mirror. Better. Now it wasn't on her shoulders or getting in the way. She looked good in her grey Black Mesa hoodie and jeans. The goal today was shopping, so she didn't need to dress up too crazy. Simple worked.
She'd already washed, so out the bathroom doors she went, into the body of the mall. It was noisier outside than she'd expected. Maybe they were having a sale? Someone shouted something she didn't catch. It must have been a pretty good sale.
Serena settled on "Endgame" And "Appeal To Reason" by Rise against. She had found herself listening to more and more rock music recently. She didn't know why, fast music combined with the lyrics and guitar that generally came with rock just felt... Right.
She carried on dancing as she picked them up and wandered over to the desk to see a smiling woman who kept glancing outside. She smiled and turned back to Serena. "That all? Ohhhh I like your taste." Serena grinned. "Yup. That is everything. And thank you!"
Serena's giggle was interrupted by a loud crash and loud noises outside. What was happening? She thought it was just a large crowd, not a bloody riot.
Correction: Not a sale. And it wasn't Black Friday.
What the hell was going on? Why were people shouting, and screaming, and hitting each other? She really didn't understand this at all. Some people had signs. Others didn't.
Part of her wanted to leave. Part of her didn't.
As much as she was shocked, she was curious. And whatever the hell was going on, this was not correct mall behavior. Mall Security would be on this like wool on a sheep.
Serena put the CD's (With the reciept) in her bag, then walked out of the music store to see what all the motion was about. There was a massive crowd which was shaking and moving about.
Like a riot waiting to happen. Serena couldn't see much in a maze of signs and fists. She decided that she would probably be better off walking around it and staying away from the actual crowd, otherwise it could be dangerous.
She walked around to the side to see a rather casually dressed black haired teenager. She walked over to her and tried to speak to her. she mouthed "Do you know what is going on?"
Even though she spoke at a decent volume, her voice could barely be heard over the raging crowd.
She had seen signs and had heard a crowd outside before all of the commotion. Mayve this was a protest gone wrong?
Aaaaand there they were. A pair of mall cops, ill-equipped for the situation, stepped forward from down an adjoining hall, their shouting barely audible over the roar of the crowd. Aaaand there they were, getting slugged when someone turned. One of the guys hit the floor.
Amelia almost didn't notice the blond at her side.
"Um." She said, assuming the question even though she hadn't clearly heard it. "Something bad is going on. Maybe one of us should call the real police."
The other guard moved to help his buddy to his feet. Then, they were headed back towards their security checkpoint. She didn't outright assume cowardice. Maybe they'd had the good sense to call the police, too.
A couple of mall cops approached the rapidly deteriorating situation. They were trying to calm people down, at least that is what it looked like, Serena couldn't actually hear them over the absolute chaos that was occurring inside of the mall.
One of them was down. That wasn't good. It was a fullblown riot. The black haired girl shouted something about calling the cops to her. Serena reached into her bag. She had forgotten her cell. At a time like this really?
She saw the two cops get up and move towards a guard post, probably calling for back up, or so Serena assumed. She yelled at the girl next to her, barely audible. "Not got... Cell... could you?"
Her hand was already in its pocket, fishing. She found it after a heartbeat, fumbled the thing open, dialed. It was up to her ear. Her head turned away from the riot. Hopefully, it would serve as a barrier from the sounds, but just to be safe she held up a finger, and stepped several feet away from the tussle, back into a shop. She left the blond on the scene, alone but for the thirty thrashing people with signs.
"Yeah, hello. Police? I'm at the mall on," she rattled off the address. "And there's some sort of riot. Thirty or so odd people. Fighting. Mall cops came. Tried to settle them down. Failed. Ran back to their station, probably to call for backup. The people are all very aggressive, but I don't know what this is about. Oh, thank you. I'd love some help. My name is Amelia Mellitus, Address" etc. Etc. She wrapped up the call, and hung up.
Stepping back out, her hands were in her pockets with the cellphone. The girl looked around for blondie, and to see what had happened in her absence.
Serena saw the black haired girl turn around and pull out a small object, which she assumed was her phone, and then turned around and put an hand to her other ear. Yup, she must have heard Serena.
She watched as people kicked, pushed and shoved their way through the crowd. What could possibly cause people to act like this? Because she was sure that this was not regular behavior.
A few more mall cops Arrived. However, the crowd was huge, Serena doubted the poor security members could do anything against the riot. They should just stay away an- Oh dear.
A few of the mall cops approached the crowd, tapping a few people on the shoulders, trying to sort through it themselves. Serena saw a flash and then noted a maul cop backing off, then she saw what it was, one of the members of the crowd, had a baseball bat.
That was not good.
She turned slightly to see the other girl had finished her phone call. "Yeah, they are getting more violent" Serena yelled, backing up a little.
Violent and stupid was what this situation had become. There was no evidence she could see of the problem, no way to tell what the main concern was. Although what did those signs say...? Something about mutants and police. Oh. So then, maybe that explained why many of the people in the mall were reacting so negatively to mall security. Despite not being directly a part of New York's finest, they were still in positions of authority that brought them to mind.
Some things had happened recently. One of them had happened to her friend, Gina. Another had happened to that hag, Maxine Ralls. Neither of them had been any good. Neither of them had presented the police in a positive light, either. A plethora of good words permeated the air of the situation, and Amelia mentally repeated one that rhymed with spit.
She wasn't a vigilante. The girl did not want to become an X-man, and wanted to let the real police do their very real jobs. She did not want to make things difficult for them by getting involved with the situation, and putting herself in the line of fire. Even so, she wasn't the type to simply let someone get hit by a baseball bat, Mall Security or Other. Her hands rose, her mind concocted a pair of mental images, and she sprang into distance... from range. A pair of light blue see-through hands caught the arm of the batter's jacket and held it long enough for a mall security guard to react to the attempted assault and disarm. In her mind, she imagined him turning to look her way, smiling a glint-toothed smile, and shooting her a 'thumbs up'. He did no such thing, but the mental image made her smile. The smile vanished a second later when somebody got sprayed in the face by a guard's little red can.
Serena saw the black haired girl do something... What had she done? Then she heard noises. Somewhere far behind. Were those sirens? Finally. Police had come to diffuse the situation.
Serena turned to the girl "Can you hear that?" the blonde girl yelled loudly.
She wondered what the cops would do when they arrived... Perhaps they would bring water cannons or something, maybe tear gas. She honestly wasn't sure, this was probably the most volatile situation she had ever been in.
Minus being held at gunpoint by a murderer. Serena frowned at the bad memory. It left a bad taste in her mouth.
The ghost hands vanished. Amelia kept back from the crowd. The last thing she wanted was to enter into the mosh pit that was the fray. She heard the sirens, oh yes she did. It was hard not to. It seemed ingrained into human consciousness to hear them... which made it all the more surprising to her that most of the crowd did not.
"Let's keep back and let the police handle it," she said, taking a step back and closer to the blond-haired girl. "I'm Amelia, by the way." She couldn't remember if they'd done introductions or not. The severity of the situation had jarred her brain.
Serena nodded and backed away. As the police rushed forward, she couldn't help but to be reminded of her older brother and her father, who had both been part of the NYPD, even if they had both been killed while doing their jobs.
She smiled to the girl. Amelia was a pretty name. Serena shouted over the noise with a friendly... yell? "Serena. Nice to mee-" more yelling cut off the teenagers response.
Although, it did appear to be calming slightly. Honestly, the rudeness of some rioters, shouting over the blonde, British teenagers voice.
Eventually, the rioting in the mall calmed down. Police came in, and got the crowds to disperse. Thankfully, there hadn't been all that many people, and they hadn't been dangerous mutants. It could have been far worse than it was. While all of this had been happening, the two girls had moved out of the way, out of line-of-sight of the mob, to a little cafe in the food court with nice white-painted metal tables with glass tops. Amelia had gotten a Cinna Bunn. To the uneducated, that's a cinnamon bun twisted and crafted into the shape of a rabbit with white frosting 'fur', raisin eyes, and a cherry nose.
As Amelia sat at the table, stabbing the bunny repeatedly in the face with her plastic fork, a pair of people walked by. One was a man in a studded leather jacket, with a crow's crest and a single nose ring. Another was a bubblegum princess cheerleader if far too much hot pink and short skirt. Her pom poms rattled as she walked by. "Jesus," the man said. "Can you believe more of this *$@^ is cropping up all over the city? It's a mad house."
"Monkey house!" Pinky Pie giggled wryly, then shook her head. "Yeah. It's (Blooped) up." The bloop was another word, often used as a placeholder for fornication.
Amelia sighed, and tore part of an ear off with her fork and knife. "Figures," She muttered to the one-eared rabbit. Figures...
Serena couldn't believe how crazy people could be. This was actually getting ridiculous. Well, as the leather nose ring man and the... what was she wearing? Serena wondered, how someone could wear that in good conscience outside.
Serena smiled as Amelia dug into her rabbit. She raised her tea cup to her mouth and sipped slowly, savouring the flavour. Serena did love her tea... possibly a little too much.
She was actually a little surprised that nobody had called her out on having a tea addiction yet... She smiled to Amelia and rested her cup of tea back on the table "So... What brings you to the mall today? You know, other than nearly getting caught up in a riot... Fun."
She smiled at the other girl some more and resumed drinking her tea.
