The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Serena felt the orb of blood fluctuate slightly. She focused on it to keep it together. She couldn't drop this, then she'd have to carefully purify it again... She began to lose it for a second, her surrounding were beginning to blur around her. She had to do this, she should be able to do this! Could she do this?
>>“You can do it!”
As if right on que her new friend reassured her. Serena's face changed again to one of solid determination. "Yeah, your right Katrina, I CAN DO THIS!"
She moved and twisted her hands and the blood became a steady stream filling the bag. She kept it going at a steady pace, but this would still take quite a while, there was still a lot of blood on the floor.
"So... Katrina, how long have you been at the... mansion."
Katrina held the bag steady, smiling further encouragement in Serena's direction. There was nothing like a little fighting spirit to boost energy levels for using one's mutation.
One bag down, Katrina sealed it up and held a marker poised thoughtfully over it, ready to label it.
"I've been enrolled since middle school and I graduate this year. I've come a long way since then. I used to have nightmares that the X-men were villains who beat people up in the basement, and now I'm a comm-carrying member."
It was funny how things came full circle like that.
She tapped the marker end against her chin, glancing down at the unlabeled blood bag.
"How should I label this? Does it have a blood type or anything?"
Serena smiled a little and then she froze for a second. "Wait... You're a member of the X-men? What's THAT like?" Serena asked, slightly sarcastically, knowing that she probably received her fair share of flak for being a member of the X-men.
She had finished lowering the first batch of blood into the bag. She bent down and picked up red, stained plastic, from one of the burst bags. O positive. "Looks like it's all O positive... I guess whoever that was went for it because it's the most common blood type, therefore it probably had the largest amount of donations.
It seemed to be an extremely logical conclusion to Serena. She did wonder why that figure required the blood though. Perhaps they had a mutation, that like Serena's, revolved around blood.
Katrina wrote a big “O+” on the bag of blood and set it with the other bags that had not been burst open. Once again, it was ready to save someone's life.
She wasn't entirely certain Serena was being sincere about her question about the X-men, but she decided to answer it anyway.
“It's... exciting, to say the least. There's always some crisis to avert somewhere. I pilot the jet most of the time, which is a lot of fun. I don't have a very combat oriented mutation, so most of the time I stay out of any real trouble.”
The little illusionist thoughtfully bit her lip. What else was useful for the new girl to know about the X-men? “They focus a lot on teamwork and training. They have a hologram machine that let's you practice using your mutation in tandem with other members of the X-men to learn to work together.”
She tilted her head at the other blonde girl, “You know, if you're a student at the mansion, you'd probably make a pretty good X-man someday.” Katrina didn't know how blood-bending would work as an offensive tactic in a morally-good team, since it wasn't as readily available as water or air, at least not without hurting someone first, but Serena seemed to be the type that would enjoy helping people. That was a quality that could go a long way.
“Maybe you could learn to heal or something, you know, if people are injured.” She was envisioning blood bandages covering people's wounds or something of the like.
Serena listened to her new friend intently as she got together the next orb of blood and began to move it around, swirling the blood away from the 'Bumps' which she could feel in it.
"Uh huh... I somehow don't think I would make a very good X-man. Their powers all seem to be helpful and controlled, whereas mine is wild, and dangerous." Serena said sadly. She realised what she had just said and then stared at the blood back that Katrina was holding for a moment.
She was using her power for something good, not for hurting people, not with a lack of control. She was using it to purify blood, which could then be used to save a persons life.
Serena shook her head. "I don't think I could really heal anyone... My power genuinely seems perfect for hurting others, but the thing is. I don't like fighting, and I certainly don't like the idea of killing... It just seems so... un-suited to me."
Serena liked Katrina, their names rhymed, she was friendly, and she was helping Serena out with doing something that could save others lives. She was even giving Serena support, encouragement and even making small talk.
