The only most notable scar is on his left knee where had had to have surgery as a teenager. As for tattoos, he does have a rather massive tattoo across both of his shoulders that depicts the creature from his fear-inducing powers. The tattoo is that of great Cthulhu and spreads across his upper back. As well as two sleeve tattoos on each arm. One the left arm his
sleeve tattoo consists of a mountain of terrifying skulls. On his right arm, he has a
tribal sleeve tattoo that swirls in a variety of sharp arches and loops.
Other features: Does a persistent, sly grin that is twisted with venom, maliciousness, and amusement count?
Everyday clothing style: The word “hodgepodge” is the best way to describe Harper’s style. He has clothes that range from casual jeans and colorful scarfs to three piece Armani suits. The man loves to mix and match things on his journeys out and about, to just add to his eclectic attitude.
Uniform: Again, whatever he wants to wear.
Sleepwear: Silk boxers, or a silk pajama set.
Miscellaneous clothing: He does have a multicolored scarf he likes to wear on a whim. Also, he does wear one ring on his
pinky, a silver one with a black dragon engraved on it. When asked where he got it, or why he wears such a cheap looking ring when he can afford nearly whatever he wants, Harper simply smirks and looks to be remembering fondly. All he says after that is “My first.” Nothing else is said on the matter.
CharacterPersonality: What would you call a sadistic sociopath? Would you ever call him that to his face? Harper doesn’t like to think so. So, rather than give people a chance to assume that is his nature in anyway, he has developed and perfected a persona for whenever he is out in public.
Outside, Harper is energetic, goofy, witty, and always seems to know the right thing to say. He is a rather charming rogue that can catch the eye of any man, even if he isn’t their type, and has a sharp witted tongue that make his friends glad to be his friends, and his enemies wish they never spoke to him. Yes, the outside persona is one that Harper has worked hard on.
But at his lonesome, Harper is very different. He is cold, quiet, and more observant with deep, watchful eyes that glare into the dark corners of his apartment, hoping to peel away the secrets within. He is hunting, always, for that essence that brings about real fear. But his search for the perfect nightmare doesn’t fully devoid him of everything. That is not the say that Harper doesn’t know what pleasure or joy is. He attains much joy at watching his victims suffer, and gains great pleasure at hearing them scream.
Hobbies/ Interests:- Water coloring: Further education from his parents, Harper actually turned out to be a rather gift artist. In the medium of water coloring he would indeed consider himself a master.
- Reading: He devours books of all kinds and is very well educated because of it. But his favorite things to read are horror fiction, and true crime stories.
- Horror Novels: Again, Horror. He loves horror, but only the good kind, not cheesy. One of his favorites is a create author who shares his last name. Sadly, it has been told him many times growing up, that he is no relation. Darn.
- Writing: A random bit of poetry here and there, nothing special. One of his favorite things, though, is a journal that he has had most of his life. It is here that one can learn of the real Harper.
- People watching: Observation is the nature of his job so therefore there had to be some basis for it already within him. Harper loves to watch people, either in his apartment, out on the street, or with his patients. He watches carefully and always seems like he wants to decode a person down to their very essence.
- Cooking: Though Harper isn’t the best cook, he does make one meal that is absolutely fantastic…pepperoni pizza. For whatever reason, that always comes out the best.
Job or part time job and description: Private Therapist with a specialization in Emotional Disorders and Trauma
Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Though his demeanor does make it seem like Harper doesn’t have many fears, in truth, all creatures though. He may immerse himself in the worlds of his horror fantasies but he has a real fear of one day never being able to enjoy those anymore. Whether through arrest, his further handicap, or simply his own death, Harper wants the fun to always continue. The fun can’t last forever though, can it?
Lastly, he hates small dogs. With a bloodied
PASSION he hates small dogs! No matter what breed, he feels that they are all shifty, creepy little things that should be eradicated!
Special talents: Cooking Pizza, Speed reading, Water colors, and Fencing.
MoralityGood/ bad/ neutral/ other: Torturing people with nightmares for both monetary gain and personal pleasure? Hmm…that might go under…BAD!
MutationsMutation description: Nightmare Crafting – Essentially, Harper is a nightmare crafter. He can imagine all the darkest, twisted, fearful things that can be scary and form them together in custom-made nightmares, his favorites usually revolved around tentacled, multi-mouthed and eyes creatures like Cthulhu. But creating them is only half the fun. Once done, he can then put these nightmares into people’s heads and enjoy torturing them with nightmarish visions of his creation. To do this, Harper creates a small ball, about the size of a marble, of malevolent looking, swirling energy. These are the nightmares he creates. After they are made, he then slips it into a victim’s ear, where it immediately dissolves as it courses through the ear-canal and latches onto the victim’s brain.
At the moment, Harper can create two types of nightmares: Nightmares and Waking Terrors.
Nightmares are timed and, when placed in the victim, only activate when he or she falls asleep. Once they reach a deep enough sleep, the nightmare takes hold and can be extremely vivid and even last the whole night.
Waking Terrors, on the other hand, happen when the victim is awake and occur quite suddenly. As soon as Harper puts it in his victim’s ear, the Waking Terror immediately activates and bombards the victim with a sudden, waking nightmare. These can be less vivid, but can be extremely distracting and unsettling if the victim isn’t prepared. Also, they tend to last a lesser amount on time when compared to regular nightmares.
Strengths:- Terrifying!: The meat and potatoes of Harper’s ability is that he can give people nightmares. Some of the most retched, disgusting, skin-crawling things he can imagine, he can craft together and put into people’s heads. After all, nearly everyone is afraid of something, aren’t they? These nightmares can consist of anything from drowning, being buried alive, eaten alive by zombies, or being chased around by mutated Twinkies. Whatever Harper’s twisted mind can come up with can be used to craft a nightmare. What’re you scared of?
- Always on Hand: These nightmare spheres that Harper can create are nearly always on hand. All he really has to do is concentrate a few moments to pull his most terrifying thoughts and scenarios into his ability, and watch as the swirling ball of energy is created between his finger tips.
- Torturing…hehehe…: If Harper has someone subdued or in some way incapacitated, then he can have a lot of free time to create nightmares for them. As he gets to know his victims, he will learn what they are afraid of and be able to create highly customized nightmares or waking terrors that will affect them as deeply and profoundly as he wants. After all, he never gets tired of doing this.
Weaknesses and Limitations:- Getting It In: The biggest downfall to his ability is the fact that he has to manually insert his crafted nightmare into his victim’s ear canal. Unless they are subdued or tied up, it can be hard to get close enough to someone to slip the nightmare in. On occasion, if the person is agile enough, too tall, or too suspicious, it generally makes it far harder for Harper to choose them as his victim.
- All Must End: He is currently limited to just creating Nightmares or Waking Terrors, and both of these are limited. Nightmares tend the last so long as the victim is asleep but this could be disrupted if the nightmare is so startling that the person wakes themselves up in a fit of terror. If they fall back asleep, the nightmare will resume from where it left off, but if they manage to stay awake for an hour, the nightmare will fully dissolve and the victim will be able to sleep normally. Waking Terrors, on the other hand, are sudden. Not has detailed as Nightmares, Waking Terrors happen as soon as they are inserted in the person’s ear, flashing them with distracting images and sensations. These are weaker and can dissipate far quicker if the victim is strong willed. At most, these Waking Terrors only last 5 to 10 minutes. Just enough time for Harper to get away or make a killing blow.
- No Same Nightmare Twice: Harper cannot create the same nightmare twice. Once he creates the first one and subjects his victim to it, once it dissolves, their body forms a protection from it. Because of this, Harper needs to constantly switch it up, changing scenarios, details, etc. in order to keep affecting his victim. If he can figure no changes to make, the victim merely grows immune.
- What the Victim Fears: Though Harper’s ability centers around scaring people, the biggest issue is that doesn’t inheritently know what someone is afraid of. If he is torturing/working with someone for a long time, he will eventually get to know them and what they are scared of through trail-and-error, talking, or simply asking them. But he in no way knows what they are scared off beforehand. This can be tricky for creating the perfect nightmare for his victim. But eventually he gets it.
- Number of Crafts: Harper can create a grand total of about six to eight Nightmares/Waking Terrors every day. After this happens, he simply cannot create any more for the rest of the 24 hours since the last he created. No matter how hard he tries, nothing will come of his concentrations and will be forced to wait. So cruel when someone is just trying to have fun!
Physical AbilitiesGeneral Physical Capabilities: Harper is lanky, thin, and is handicapped with a permanent limp. Doesn’t seem like much of a challenge. Though he doesn’t have much in the training of hand-to-hand combat, Harper does know how to ball up a fist or kick out with his good leg. Other than that, Harper seems to live with his limp just fine, drives, walks around, and can appear generally none threatening.
Fighting Style: No hand-to-hand combat training. Because of his “incident” when he was young, Harper has a permanent limp that has kept him out of such practices. But the one thing he was trained in was fencing. Though the training had to be modified to accommodate his bum leg, Harper is still fairly well skilled with a fencing blade. To protect himself, he keeps one inside the
antique walking stick that he carries, given to him by his grandfather.
Fighting Style Pros/Cons:- Pro: Unsuspecting to see a sword suddenly being pulled from a cane.
- Pro: Surprisingly talented at fencing so watch out!
- Con: Disarm him and Harper really has no other weapon than his mutant power.
- Con: Dependence on a weapon can be a flaw.
History Of Your CharacterTo say that Harper was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, well, would be accurate. Harper had the best of things when he was born to both Charles Templeton and Lily Ann Lovecraft in 1986, the wealthy owners of a business corporation known only a Temple Inc. Born rather…accidentally, during a fancy Halloween party that his parents were hosting for potential clients, Harper was a surprise to the world as no one seemed to know that the Templeton’s were even going to have to child. Both Charles and Lily Ann were very secretive about their personal lives and seemed to only exude a professional aura that labeled them as cold and harsh; not at all the type of people who would want children.
But in fact they did want Harper; but it was a want born more out of strategy than an expression of love. Fear of losing touch with the common man, of being unable to be appealing to them, both Charlies and Lily decided that only by having a child would they appeared humanized enough for the masses.
Thus, Harper was born. And, yes, they were humanized to the public face and stocks skyrocketed.
Because of his obvious success for his parent’s finances, Harper was treated with any and everything he wanted while growing up. He was never allowed to be without…except for his parents love. The one thing that they had not banked on was what to do once Harper was born. Therefore, Harper rarely saw his parents but instead was given the company of staff, nurses, and assigned people. They were his parents and no one else.
Growing up, though Harper knew his real parents, he had little to no affections for them. They were just people who offered him money, bought his toys, and sent him to school. It was the staff that he even had the slightest affections for. But growing up without a real loving family, there was little that Harper could understand about “love”. At most, he only knew not to mistreat the people who worked for his family.
At least until he was old enough.
Until the age of 10, Harper was fairly quiet and withdrawn. But this raised no warning signs for him. Being intelligent and a quick learner for his age, many simply thought that Harper just very mature for his age and simply not interested in childish things. Unfortunately that was never the case. The truth was that Harper had much darker side to him that was beginning to develop. So absent from normal human emotions (
thanks to his being ignored by his parents), Harper developed a tendency of secretly…lashing out. Pretty soon, cute chipmunks and squirrels from the grounds surrounding his home were vanishing, and rumors began to spread around the things that were being found in his room by the staff. Of course the majority of this was only considered to be false or just the normal behavior of a health, roughhousing child.
That is until he turned his more sadistic nature towards his kids his own age. During a particular incident with Edgar Lockwere, the son of a wealthy businesswoman, a more scrutinizing light was shown upon Harper Templeton. Though the real events of what happened that particular night were buried under the Templeton empire’s wealth and name, it did manage to leave lasting scars on the family’s reputation, as well as Harper’s body. The only facts known were that Edgar would be former traumatized, and that Harper received permanent damage to his left knee. Forever the limp he would gain would be a sore reminder not only to himself, but to his parents, of his true nature. They were indeed scars that were deep enough for Charles and Lily Ann to finally take a closer look at their child and realize that this was no phase. There was a monster that needed to be contained.
For years afterward, Harper was taught to hide his more sadistic side. But it was during this period of hiding that he discovered somethings rather…surprising about himself. First and foremost as the by the time he was 16, Harper began to realize that he enjoyed the company of his own gender instead of the opposite. It didn’t take him long to realize that he was gay. Breaking that news to his distant, image obsessed parents…that was another story. But that wasn’t the greatest of surprises.
Harper was a great fan of horror literature. Yes he could read the “proper classics” as his mother always suggested, but his great loves were always the horror novels that could cast the more terrifying of nets over the captive reader. He devoured them with vigor, at time almost wishing that he could live them. It was on one particular night that he was sitting in his room, reading a great piece about the Elder Gods of R’lyeh that he felt a strange surge of energy tingling his fingertips. Startled, he nearly dropped his book as he watched his hand, watching as the sparks and tingles flew and swirled about one another until a small sphere was formed, a sphere that just felt like it was filled with all the fear and hatred he had just finished reading! But…just as soon as it appeared…it vanished. This was an interesting development.
For weeks afterward, Harper would exhaust himself trying to recapture that moment but was met with only sensations, not the actually end result. Eventually, it would happen though. While walking through his house in frustration, Harper spied his father fast asleep on the couch. His emotions towards that slug of a man slowly got the better of him and Harper began to imagine all the terrible, horrible things he would like to do to him. As if in response, his mutation kicked in again and the same swirling sphere of energy was formed. He did his best to sustain it, not wanting it to vanish again! Luckily this time it seemed to stay with him. Holding it curiously, Harper held it up to his eye…and was surprised to seem images within the sphere. And not just any random images…exactly what he was imagining mere moments ago about his father.
A glance at the man…then back to the sphere…and he had to experiment. Subtly Harper peered closely at the snoring man, trying to figure out the best way to go about this when the sphere suddenly rolled off his fingers. He reached out to take it but it slipped past…and straight into his father’s ear. Harper recoiled at the scream of terror that flew his father’s lips. Gasping and shrieking, the man flailed widely and was soon awakened.
Harper could only grin. Oh…goodie. A new toy. But Harper knew that he had to keep both this and his real nature hidden. With a combination of deals with his parents and being allowed a chance or two to “unwind”, Harper soon was able to create a persona perfect for blending in. By being a combination of eccentric, charming, funny, and serious, Harper could easily disarm people with his wit and charm. He could move in and out of crowds without the true face of him ever being revealed…unless he wanted it to.
Home schooled nearly all of his life (with lessons in art, reading, writing, music, fencing, etc.), Harper soon grew tired of living within his parents rules. He wanted to be out, to live on his own and open a whole new vista of “opportunities” for himself. With some…convincing…Harper got what he wanted. So, taking on his mother’s last name, at 18, Harper stepped out of the confines of his home and into the world of college.
And such a world it was! Education, freedom, choices, victims! It was fantastic! With his perfectly practiced persona, Harper made a plethora of friends and always stayed under the radar should suspicion ever arise. He even managed to make a boyfriend or two during his college years, but never anything serious. The few glimpses they ever managed to get of Harper’s real self, and they bolted. Silly boys. So much for “true love”.
After college, and getting his degrees in Psychology, Harper soon began to feel that itch to move again. With little word to his parents, Harper sought for other worlds to live in, other things to add to his persona, other ways to gain victims for his nightmarish abilities. Soon he would find such a thing that encompassed all of that. Taking a job as a private therapist specializing in trauma and emotional disorders, Harper uprooted his life and moved to New York, leaving both his parents money and names behind (except for his mother’s maiden name).
He would be excited for this. New hunting grounds were always so much fun…

Sample RP:The alley was dank. Due to the recent downfall of a rain which collected into still puddles, unmoving and dirty water wafted up strange scents that could poison and sicken the mind of whoever dared to walk through. Mixed with the usual debris of rotting foods, strewn about papers, and the endless squeaking and skittering of unknown vermin, it was quiet possibly one of the most hellish places in the city.
But not to everyone.
To some the dark corners offer a chance to commit darker, more malevolent deeds. It allows them to scuttle about through the shadowy corners, unseen as they search about for their next victim. These alleys and alcoves were the hidden veins of the city. The place that no person wanted to give a second glance at.
It was perfect. Absolutely perfectly. Here no one would hear the sounds of a single man, limping and needing the use of his cane walk. No one would even give him a second look if they saw him slouched back against the slimy, brick wall, eyes gleaming with malevolence or a grin that could chill even the stoniest of hearts. No. It was the perfect place to just be looked over; and that was exactly what he wanted.
“Hmm,” said the man with a limp.
“You know…you remind me of a friend of mine.” He dressed in a fine trench coat, long multicolored scarf, an exquisite suit that covered his extremely tall and lanky frame. He both looked like an aberration of humanity and completely out of place. But the expression on his face was just as twisted as the alley around him. Leaning against the wall, looming over a huddled figure that shivered and cried to itself in his shadow, the man, whose name happened to be Harper, grinned as he used his cane to slowly kneel down in front of the terrified looking individual.
“Who, you ask?” he inquired gently.
“No one in particular, really.” Holding up his free hand, Harper quietly rubbed his index and ring fingers against his thumb before a suddenly, sickly ball of bluish looking energy that was only the size of a marble. Momentarily it lit terrified victim’s face. Young, handsome, though with wide and bewildered eyes, the young man (
probably a college student) recoiled from the sphere.
“I only mention it because you look like him. Oh…and he was very scared of snakes. Heh. Go figure.” Leaning over, Harper smiled wider as he gently placed the sphere of energy in the terrified person’s ear and stood up to his full height. Quietly he stretched out as he turned and began to walk away, limping and using his cane for assistance. Meanwhile, his victim suddenly shuddered and began to scream about snakes that slithered all over him.
Another grin and he muttered over his shoulder.
“Pleasant dreams.”
