Agnes smiled at the surprise she saw on Rebecca’s face; though it was a little saddening too. She saw the look of surprise at the sweet gesture, but there was also that pained look of having forgotten her own birthday. Though Agnes didn’t blame the redhead for having forgotten her own birthday, it hurt to see such a look in her eyes. Hopefully they could move past it and just celebrate and enjoy their time together this day.
But, even as Agnes thought that, she looked closely at Rebecca and instantly saw the fear in her eyes at her last comment. It was painfully obvious that the young woman did not want to see anyone; a fact that Agnes felt she should have known beforehand instead of just blurting out that option.
>> "No no no no no… Ah dinnae want people tae see me yet… It's too too soon. Ah mean, A-ah'm getting a wee bit better, bit Ah'm still not ready yet."
Oh, the tears were so heartbreaking. Agnes just wanted to reach over and sooth the young woman who had already recoiled at the thought of being around other people. But, at the same time, Agnes just didn’t want to coddle Rebecca too much. She needed to be there for her, but she had to let Rebecca heal herself on her own as well. God, this was just so hard. She wished that she had a checklist or something that could tell her whether or not she was making the right decisions.
>> “I dinnae want everyone tae see me til Ah'm less... broken."
A frown dragged the brunette’s lips down. Sniffling, she took a breath and sighed. As she turned her attention back onto Rebecca, the insect queen reached over and very gently placed her hands on the redhead’s shoulders. She squeezed them gently before she started to wrap her arms around her and pull her in for a sweet hug.
“Aw, baby,” she muttered, trying to get the teary-eyed look out of her mind’s eye. “Don’t…think like that baby. Y-you aren’t broken. You just…you need time. And I’ll be here for you, for as long as you want me to be.”
