The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>> “It was. And I love you..."
If that wasn't a reminder that everything was going to get better, she had no idea what was.
Agnes respected Rebecca's wishes and flipped a lamp light on, before taking the seat next to her. Her choice of placement furrowed Rebecca's brow. "The light is fine, bit... Ah mean Ah was kinda hoping..."
How did she make her request without feeling selfish? Agnes was probably nowhere near as tired as Rebecca, and laying there was probably going to keep her girlfriend bored. Maybe if she just politely asked without being pushy? "You dinnae have tae fall asleep right away, bit if you wouldnae mind... Ah'd like tae fall asleep next tae you."
Oh, how was she going to say no to that? That was totally not fair either. "Ah mean, when Ah fall asleep, you can get out of bed too. Um, actually, no worries, it's okay." Rebecca could feel her cheeks burning with the embarrassment of feeling needy.
Agnes had settled in. She was not all that tired, but she knew that Rebecca would probably be hit with waves of weariness as the evening went on. After her ordeal, she wasn’t all that surprised by it. The poor thing needed to get back to her former strength and her former mental state. Having to get used to everything all over again was sure to be rather exhausting. So, even if she wasn’t tired, she would hang by, maybe looking over some of the classes she was going to take next semester as Juilliard. But as she began to pull up the information on her phone, she looked up when Rebecca seemed to have more on her mind.
>> "The light is fine, bit... Ah mean Ah was kinda hoping… You dinnae have tae fall asleep right away, bit if you wouldnae mind... Ah'd like tae fall asleep next tae you."
Agnes smiled a little. It was true that she wasn’t tired but she didn’t know why she didn’t think that this is what Rebecca would have wanted. After spending what seemed like a year in blackened loneliness, of course she would want to have someone near her as she slept. Hearing and feeling another heartbeat next to her would probably go a long way.
>> "Ah mean, when Ah fall asleep, you can get out of bed too. Um, actually, no worries, it's okay."
“Oh, babe, no, no, of course I don’t mind,” she said softly. “I just, you know, didn’t know if you wanted to be alone.”
With a face full of compassion, Agnes smiled as her sweet redhead as she casually slipped into bed behind her. Fluffing up one of the extra pillows, Agnes smiled as she tucked it gently under her head and wrapped her arm around the petite Scot’s waist. Gently her soft fingertips rubbed across Rebecca’s stomach in a soothing gesture as she leaned forward to kiss her softly in the back of her head. Being so close, taking in the scent of her hair, and Agnes was instantly brought back to the last time they laid in bed together. It was almost as if the last few months never happened.
Almost.
Quietly she nuzzled into Rebecca’s hair and sighed. “I missed this.” she whispered. “So much.”

>> “Oh, babe, no, no, of course I don’t mind. I just, you know, didn't know if you wanted to be alone.”
Rebecca shook her head at the assumption. "Nae, never alone. Nae if the other choice is you." Sure, she would allow Agnes to return to her life; she was not going to keep her girlfriend shackled to her. But when it was possible, and especially when it meant sleeping next to her, Rebecca would never choose anything else.
>> “I missed this. So much.”
Rebecca's yawn could not ruin her smile while Agnes was laying behind her in a place that felt both familiar and long overdue. "Too long. E'en 'afore it all." Ragman aside, the months in a bed without Agnes felt painfully empty and alone. "Night, Aggie."
***
The next day was a slow, relaxed affair. Life felt almost normal, (if it was ignored that Rebecca refused to leave the room.) Rebecca woke up late, and with the emotionally calming presence of Agnes around, she was getting reacquainted with her laptop. As Agnes sat at Rebecca's desk getting some homework done for her upcoming semester (research or something, she could not remember the details,) Rebecca was laying flat on her stomach, looking at the screen of her own device.
At first, Rebecca was reading through her word documents, familiarizing herself with her poems and some of the notes from her first semester. It was decided that she would take the upcoming semester off, if for no other reason than to focus on her return to normalcy. She still wanted to become re-accustomed to her lessons, not to mention her more personal writing.
She was doing very good with the focusing until she went to her web browser to look for something and inexplicably ended up on ViewTube. She had plenty of time to focus and be diligent anyway; she could afford to spend the early days goofing off, (with the volume turned low, of course, so as not to bother Agnes with anything but her occasional fits of laughter.)
She was on her third episode of Lexi and Miley's gaming show when she finally became aware of something for the first time all day: there was an off-putting scent nearby. Sitting up, she sniffed a bit at the sheets, the pillow, and the rug before catching a whiff from her underarms.
Pouting to herself, she looked over to Agnes. "Ah shoulds prolly take a shower, huh?"
It was a restful night. Agnes didn’t really think that she was going to fall asleep when she had curled up against Rebecca but sleep had indeed found her. Before she knew it, her eyes had grown heavy and began to fall, before she knew it she was in the midst of a series of dreams that she would never remember in the morning, but were extremely vivid for the time that she had them. Even though the dreams were rather realistic, Agnes didn’t awaken. Instead she slept soundly through the night. And with Rebecca back at her side, it was the first good sleep she had in a long while.
***
The next day found Agnes sitting at Rebecca’s desk, pouring over her syllabi for the next semester. She had several new classes that she would be taking part in and a majority seemed like they were going to be tough. She knew, though, that if she buckled down she would able to pass them with no problem. But in the back of her mind she began to fear just how committed she was going to be to her studies. With Rebecca back, and in the shape she was in, it made Agnes worry that she would spend the majority of her time worrying about her. Even though she knew that Rebecca needed to learn to get back to living a normal life, Agnes herself needed to learn that lesson too.
It was definitely going to be a tough year.
But she focused. Today she said she would stay with Rebecca all day but she was going to have to divide her attention between Rebecca and looking at school stuff. Thankfully she did remind the redhead that if she needed absolutely anything to go ahead and ask.
So far, the day was going rather well. After making breakfast for the pair of them, Agnes got down to work, looking over her syllabi while Rebecca was returning to using her electronics. The redhead was entertaining herself with her laptop, going over old files and eventually finding humorous things on the internet. It was not too distracting. Agnes partially wished that she were joining her since she missed that bit of normalcy that was gone during their breakup, but she knew that focus was most important right now.
>> "Ah shoulds prolly take a shower, huh?"
She blinked as she looked away from her work.
“Hmm?” It was almost as if the very act of recognizing the scent made it more pronounced. At first she had no idea what Rebecca was talking about but eventually that scent that only comes about with lack of showering snuck in through her nose and numbed the back of her brain. In order not to be mean about it, she nodded her head gently. “Um…a shower couldn’t hurt?” she said with a small smile. “Do you need help?”
Obviously she didn’t mean in a sexual way, but more a convalescent way. She knew that Rebecca had gone through something pretty traumatic, but there was no saying how she was going to react to a shower after feeling like a year away from one. But whatever the case, Agnes would be there to help, should Rebecca want it.

>> “Um…a shower couldn't hurt? Do you need help?”
Rebecca closed her laptop and took a deep breath, (through her mouth, now that she realized just how distinctive her scent was.) "Ah... think Ah should be fine?" It was just a shower, right? It was such a part of everyday life, she really did not think about the elements of a shower. It was a nice thing, as far as she remembered. It was warm and relaxing, so that should be something easy.
The young woman edged herself off of the bed, walking over to the bathroom door. Once she was past the threshold, she remembered just how cold tile floors were. With a shudder, Rebecca took quick steps on the balls of her feet until she was on the little rug in the center of the room.
Rebecca's clothing came off after minor struggle; her shirt submitted to being pulled over her head, her pajama pants and undies slid down, and her bra... well, eventually she just pulled that over her head, too. (Those clasps would be way ;ess challenging if they were not behind her.)
Placing a towel on the hook next to her shower, Rebecca stepped in, looking up at the showerhead. She could not shake the feeling that she usually turned the knobs on from outside the shower. Her hands reached for the knobs, wondering why she would choose to do something so seemingly counterprod--
"COLD!"
The cold water pelted Rebecca's skin, hitting her like violent hail. With a loud yell, Rebecca tried jumping out of the shower so quickly that she tripped and landed against her side on the rug, almost taking the shower curtain with her.
Good! She was glad that Rebecca was starting to feel just a tad bit better about getting up and doing some of these things on her own. That was how she was going to heal, right? Once she got into the swing of things again, starting to get back into her old routines, she would start to see the world a lot better. This made Agnes extremely happy.
Still, she hoped that the young redhead would be okay. After all, judging by what she went through, a lot of things could be harsh that she was normally used to. Maybe something as simple as a shower could be overwhelming?
Nah. She would be fine. Agnes nodded her head firmly and went back to work. She knew that she shouldn’t be so worried about her. She loved Rebecca very much, but the biggest part about love was being able to trust the other person. She trusted that Rebecca knew she was ready for this and that Agnes shouldn’t attempt to coddle her.
So, after hearing the door close, and listening to the shower run, Agnes turned back to her syllabi and had just set her eyes upon the description of the class when--
>> "COLD!"
The commotion from the bathroom immediately dragged Agnes’ attention away from what she was doing. Her mind filled with dread at the shout and her heart fluttered inside of her chest. Oh god, what happened? Was she wrong? Was Rebecca okay?! With such thoughts in mind, Agnes raced across the room, pulled open the door and burst inside…
…to find Rebecca partially wrapped in a curtain, shivering from cold, and half hanging out of the tube. The water pouring from the showerhead chilled the air and Agnes was quick to dash over and turn the water off before she knelt down at Rebecca’s side, her face full of concern.
“Oh my god, baby, are you okay?” she asked as she offered to help move her from probably awkward positioning.

Like a stalwart protector of the awkward, untrained young woman, Agnes reached Rebecca's side in a rush. Rebecca felt embarrassed for her incompetence, but it did not show amidst the trembling of so many stimuli.
>> “Oh my god, baby, are you okay?”
She took the help and slowly got to her feet, rubbing the side of her hip. "Ow... Ah think Ah'm fine. The rug was soft." It might have been more of a problem if she collided directly with the bathroom floor.
Looking back at the shower, Rebecca frowned. "Were showers always sae c-cold? And loud? And... mean?" She was missing the word that appropriately summed up how the shower was repeatedly pelting her with water almost aggressively. "Actually, aggressive. Th' word is aggressive."
With cold droplets of water still dotting her body, Rebecca looked down at the ground. "Um, Ah hate tae ask this, bit... would ye be alright with... Ah mean, jist this time..." She looked back into the water, which was now starting to garner some steam. It would be easier to readjust if Agnes was with her, at least for the first time.
>> "Ow... Ah think Ah'm fine. The rug was soft…Were showers always sae c-cold? And loud? And... mean?...Actually, aggressive. Th' word is aggressive."
Agnes smiled a little warmly to the young redhead. She should have known to have been there to help her, but at least Rebecca didn’t get hurt. Quietly she helped her up while the Scot complained about the shower and how cold and mean it was. Poor thing must have forgotten that she needed to turn the hot water knob as well in order to get the right temperature. It really was like she was trying to help Rebecca learn everything all over again.
That only made her heart pang a bit with sadness. Not because she didn’t want to be doing this or because it was too much for her to handle, but simply because it was hard to look at Rebecca and know that only a couple weeks ago, she was exactly the opposite.
That ragman must have done a number on her. The thought of it momentarily started to make Agnes swell with anger, but she pushed it away in order to stay focused on the sweet redhead. First thing first…
After she was up, Agnes turned and adjusted the shower until it was a good temperature. It was slowly begin to get warmer but not reach a scalding heat, or freezing. When that was done, she turned back to Rebecca to see that she obviously had a question on her lips.
>> "Um, Ah hate tae ask this, bit... would ye be alright with... Ah mean, jist this time..."
She smiled sweetly in response.
“Of course,” she said gently. Turning she reached into the shower to make sure the water felt okay. When it seemed good, she offered her hand to Rebecca with a smile. “Come on, I’ll hold your hand. You won’t need to do this alone.”

>> “Of course Come on, I’ll hold your hand. You won’t need to do this alone.”
Rebecca took the hand of her girlfriend after the knob was turned and the temperature of the room was already shifting along with the water. Meekly, she nodded. "Th-thank you."
The girl stepped into the back of the shower so the water was at first simply pattering on the tops of her feet. She could tell the water was no longer frigid, but it was not yet too hot either. Cautiously, she stepped forward.
The water started hitting her legs, then below her waist, before she finally allowed it to reach her upper body. With each new section, she cringed initially as the pellets struck her, (especially in more sensitive areas.)
She dipped her head down into the current, which was when the stimuli caught her off guard. The most apparent one was noise, as the pattering of water felt much louder upon her head. Rebecca crouched down where the water was spread out and as such, quieter. Plopping down on her bottom, she covered her ears with her hands, or more precisely, her hand and the back of Agnes's hand. She was not ready to let go of Agnes's hand just yet.
Agnes smiled sweet as she gave Rebecca’s hand a little squeeze and helped her back into the shower. The water was warm enough now that it shouldn’t be as big a shock as the cold water was. But she would wait until she was sure that the redhead was okay before she would undress and join her.
It was a good thing she decided to wait.
Standing back, she held onto Rebecca’s hand and watched as she slowly began to step under the torrent of water…and immediately had an adverse reaction to it. Rebecca tried so hard to be okay with what she was feeling but it was apparent that it was too much. The redhead dipped down onto the bottom of the tub, covering her head to escape the torrent of dropping water. If Agnes knew exactly what the issue was, she would resolve it, but she didn’t. So the most she could do was be there for the sweet redhead.
Reaching up, Agnes did her best to adjust the shower head so that it was pointed towards the wall rather than rain down upon Rebecca so harshly. Only after doing so did she sit on the edge of the tub, frowning slightly as she reached over with her free hand and began to run her fingers through Rebecca’s soaked hair.
“Sssh, baby, it’s okay,” Agnes whispered gently, trying her best to hold back a sniffle at seeing Rebecca reacting this way. “I’m right here. You’re okay. Focus on me, not the water. Focus on my hand, on my voice, okay?”

>> “Sssh, baby, it’s okay. I’m right here. You’re okay. Focus on me, not the water. Focus on my hand, on my voice, okay?”
Rebecca could feel the hand and hear Agnes's voice, and when she closed her eyes, she started separating her sensations until those were in the forefront and the torrent of water was something more manageable because it was no longer everything she could sense.
Agnes had moved the stream of water so it was no longer directly hitting Rebecca, but that was no way to get washed up. "Ah think... Ah think you can move the head again." She took a deep breath, ready to take a small step. "And... Ah mean, you can get in with me if you'd like, too..."
She loved showering with Agnes, but this was nothing sexual today. She wanted Agnes there because the first time, having comforting arms around her would remind her things were okay.
Agnes, being the wonderful angel she was, obliged with a warm smile, slipping off her clothing until she was ready to join her girlfriend in the tub, and the two girls showered until the very act felt normal and fine again.
Agnes sighed. Standing in the kitchen, she was leaning over a cake that she had bought from a local store. She really wanted to make it homemade, but she just didn’t have the time. With her watching over Rebecca, as well as planning for her next semester, Agnes didn’t have a lot of free time for things like this. But, it was Rebecca’s birthday so she simply HAD to do something, right? What made it worse was that even if Rebecca was starting to get better, she still was a tad bit skittish.
It wouldn’t be much of a party. But Agnes still wanted Rebecca to know that this was a normal thing and they could do whatever they wanted today. If she wanted to see friends, cool, if not, then they could just hang out and watch movies all day. Today her best gift to Rebecca would just be herself.
She hoped.
So, leaning down over the small, strawberry cake, Agnes smiled as she inserted a couple of small candles that were in the shape of a “2” and a “0”. The final flourish was done! It was take to take this to Rebecca’s room. Slipping a small box of matches into her jean pockets, and balancing a small container of ice cream in the crook of her arm, Agnes picked up the cake inside of its box and made sure to not forget the plastic utensils. With everything in hand, she turned on her heel and made her way towards Rebecca’s room.
In all honesty she really would have liked to ask Gina or couple of Rebecca’s other friends to show up, just so that Rebecca could get a little more exposure to more people. But at the same time she didn’t want to expose the young Scot to too much at one time. She would follow Rebecca’s lead today and hopefully the young redhead will want to see people on her own.
But, just in case, she would be prepared to spend the day in.
Reaching the door, Agnes took a small breath before she knocked on the door with her foot so that Rebecca could let her in.
“Hunny? It’s me. Can you let me in, please?” she asked sweetly.

Rebecca was doing a lot better! Well, comparably. She was quite a ways from normal, but her small steps were coming along. She could shower by herself, (not that it was her preference, but if she needed to, she could,) she could sleep without her music now, and she was considering the idea of sleeping without her nightlight. (The total dark was still a bit of a trigger for her, but she was sure it was only a matter of time before her will toppled that as well.)
That day, Rebecca was sitting on her bed, leafing her way through an issue of Dusktalon. There was a knock at the door and she bounced up in surprise until the voice accompanied it.
>> “Hunny? It’s me. Can you let me in, please?”
"Oh of course! Ah mean, right away!" She bounced off of the bed, straightening her skirt before approaching the door to open it.
She gave Agnes a kiss on her cheek before looking down at the cake with wide eyes. "Oh, that looks delicious! What is it for?" she asked obliviously.
Agnes smiled as she loomed on the other side of the door with a plethora of items all ready to hand out to her sweet girlfriend. Though the past weeks had been tough, Agnes was glad for this little sense of normalcy. Rebecca really was doing so much better but they obviously still had some issues that they needed to work through. Still, Agnes optimistic that Rebecca should be fine by the time that she went back to school.
She was so proud of her. She hoped that this good streak only continued.
With a sigh she shifted the items a little until finally she heard the soft footsteps of the young redhead as she bounded out of bed and dashed over to open the door. As soon as she saw that crack of light, Agnes smiled wide at Rebecca as the young Scot seemed to pause curiously at all the treats.
>> "Oh, that looks delicious! What is it for?”
…
Really? Had Rebecca actually forgotten her own birthday. In hindsight, it probably was not all that far-fetched, after all, with everything that Rebecca went through, it was only natural that she would lose a little bit of time. But still. How do you forget your birthday? No matter. It only made the surprise that much better.
Agnes smiled sweetly as she walked into the room, pausing long enough to lean over and plant a small kiss on the corner of Rebecca’s lips.
“It’s your birthday, sweetie,” she said with a smile. Moving over to a nearby table, she shifted and balanced trying to place everything down, talking over her shoulder. “I…you know…didn’t know how you would feel about celebrating with a bunch of people since you never mentioned it, but I figured if you want to just hang, you know, you and me, we can. But if you want to have people come by, I can track ‘em down.”

>> “It’s your birthday, sweetie.”
Rebecca went wide-eyed, placing a hand over her mouth to stifle the excited gasp. "Oh my, Ah almost forgot!" After going so long without knowing exactly what time or day or month it was, Rebecca totally lost her grasp of the workings of a calendar. It was odd for her to think that on the mental side of age, she was probably twenty-one, (an argument believed by no bar's doorman ever.)
>> “I…you know…didn’t know how you would feel about celebrating with a bunch of people since you never mentioned it, but I figured if you want to just hang, you know, you and me, we can. But if you want to have people come by, I can track ‘em down.”
The very thought of guests drained what little color Rebecca's pale face had. "No no no no no." She was trembling, with her eyes closed in hopes of making herself invisible or something. "Ah dinnae want people tae see me yet."
She calmed herself down, not wanting to lose all the progress she had amassed. She opened her eyes and took the cake from Agnes, carefully setting it down on her desk. "It's too too soon. Ah mean, A-ah'm getting a wee bit better, bit Ah'm still not ready yet."
She turned back to her girlfriend with pained eyes, keeping her eyes from watering through force of will. "I dinnae want everyone tae see me til Ah'm less... broken."
