The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>"Well, there is still the matter of our little friend down there. Three o'clock, low. I imagine he might still be a bit unhappy... At your leisure, I doubt there is much he can do to us from down there."
"There isn't" Maya agreed, carefully aiming with her eyes before she ever drew the arrow "All right, lesson number one for the day: X-men don't kill. Not unless they really, really have to, that is. But for now...."
The arrow flew out with a hiss and hit the Minotaur in the shoulder. Upon impact it seemed to snap and the shaft fell to the ground, leaving the tip stuck under the beast's skin. The Minutaur sniffed and smelled the light trickle of his own blood; he roared and spun around, then staggered, and collapsed to the ground.
"Yes, I would assume there would be no killing," Mariusz replied, beating his wings a little slower and beginning to sink slowly towards the ground so he and Maya could retrieve their arrows. His keen vision didn't see anything particularly headed in their direction at the moment. "However, safety being of paramount importance I assumed we would not be firing real arrows at a living target. I must confess, I am not familiar with what kind of targets these are though."
A few feet from the ground he released the grip his own feet had on Maya's ankles. Touching down gently, with a few more powerful downbeats of his wings, the feathered mutant released the hold he had on the woman's waist so she could walk away while he furled his wings. "I have never carried someone like that before. It worked rather well, though it would be a challenge to grab up someone who was a bigger person. You are fairly small," Marius said, shrugging his shoulders and moving to the downed minotaur to retrieve his and Maya's arrows. Cleaning both of them he returned his to its quiver and then he tossed Maya's in the air. Catching her arrow neatly just behind the arrowhead he offered it back to her, fletching first.
>>"Yes, I would assume there would be no killing, However, safety being of paramount importance I assumed we would not be firing real arrows at a living target. I must confess, I am not familiar with what kind of targets these are though."
"No one is" Maya admitted cheerfully, taking the arrow from his hand "But they can do real damage if we want them to. Welcome to the Danger Room."
>>"I have never carried someone like that before. It worked rather well, though it would be a challenge to grab up someone who was a bigger person. You are fairly small,"
"That's a first." she chuckled, poking at the minotaur with her foot. "Gotta be a first for everything." Looking up, she raised her voice. "Computer, end program."
The jungle dissolved around them, minotaur and all. Maya turned to the bird-man, tilting her head.
"Yes, I have been living in the Mansion for about a week now," the Czech man said in answer to Maya's question as the jungle setting dissolved around them leaving them both standing in a rather austere room. "I do not think I have ever seen technology like this before," he said, gesturing around at the the room that was now devoid of basically everything that wasn't either himself or the young woman before him. "Is this accomplished technologically or is it through some mutant who has the ability to project illusions?"
"I had heard rumors, here and elsewhere, that there was a team of mutants that operated from here with the purpose of using their powers for the betterment of mutant-human relations and society in general. Since I am living here I am rather loathe to be a freeloader and do nothing to help pull my weight and earn my keep. Besides that, I have some skills that I imagine would be most useful," the feathered man said with a shrug, turning his golden eyed gaze on Maya once more.
"I can only assume there are more tests and interviews to be conducted before being allowed to join such a team, however I am most interested in being a part if I would be accepted of course. I am also not so foolish as to imagine that there would not be some element of risk involved in working for such a team, and I am prepared to accept that risk."
>>"Yes, I have been living in the Mansion for about a week now. I do not think I have ever seen technology like this before. Is this accomplished technologically or is it through some mutant who has the ability to project illusions?"
"Umm" Maya scratched her neck "Nobody is really sure. It should be mostly technology I guess... but not somethin' ya find in a store. Perks of being funded by some mutant mastermind, I guess." Really, was anyone even sure how the DR worked?...

"It's not really about paying your rent" Maya smirked as she picked up her gear and checked her arrows "A bit more complex than that." The intentions were there though, and she was not going to turn a possibe X-trainee away just because he was the new guy on the block...

Okay, he had obviously thought this through.
"Do ya always talk like that?" she smirked at the feathery guy. No wonder his father was a diplomat. "How about you settle in and see if you wanna stick around, and then we talk about the team. In the meantime, I'm always up for training, and so are some of the other people who work here. All you need to do is ask."
Mariusz shrugged his shoulders in response to Maya's remark about no one knowing how the Danger Room worked. He wasn't altogether sure it was an honest answer on Maya's part, but he also assumed that being so new to the Mansion perhaps he wasn't yet supposed to have that information so he let it drop. "I know I do not have to pay rent, or anything like that. Still, I wish to do something to earn my keep. Nothing in the world is free, after all."
"Do I always talk like what," he asked, tilting his head slightly to one side and regarding Maya for a moment with his amber colored eyes. "Who else would I talk to about training," he asked, assuming it would probably be in his best interest to train with many different members of the team if he wished to join. More voices speaking up in favor of something, or someone in this case, was never a bad thing.
