The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Nigel lead the way and Hunter positioned his car behind him and followed. He didn’t say anything, offering Paragon a chance to say whatever she felt was necessary. Once all the issues were out in the open they could start to try and deal with them.
In the car ahead Nigel said, “So Jenny, if you’re gonna be my daughter I guess I better learn a few things about you huh? So, what are your hobbies?” While Nigel had never worked with children, he had a little sister and Katrina seemed like a nice enough girl, he reckoned they’d get on fine.

Iris kept the smile on her face as they walked, just in case they passed someone who needed to be fooled. Her eyes remained straight ahead though. The smile even stayed in existence as she loaded the still growling-hissing Ebony into the back seat, climbed in, and waited till they were out of the garage. However, the instant they were out of sight of the Labs, the mask dropped completely.
She crossed her arms and legs, and began tapping one foot lightly on the floorboards, in a visible effort to remain neutral.
The effort lasted for a full minute. Then...
"All right, who are they, and why they coming?" The question was completely legitimate. To Iris's credit, her tone held no hint of sarcasm, rebellion, irritation or paranoia. This time.
In the car ahead, Katrina chatted with Nigel/ Milo about all of her favorite things. For some reason, he had put her in a chatty mood. She told him all about hanging out with her friends back home, riding horses, playing oboe, her favorite books, her least favorite chores, and filled him in on what food she liked, so she wouldn't have to pretend to like something she didn't at some point during their little charade.
After she felt she had probably talked his ear off, she decided it was probably his turn to talk. "How about you? Do you have a real family? How do you know Hunter? What is your job? Are you human or a mutant? What kinds of things do you like?"
(OOC: feel free to skip Kat's turn a few times until we all come back together again. The Iris/ Hunter conversation seems to be the more important one.)
The question, the one Hunter had been waiting for. “Nigel, or Milo as we’ll be calling him for a while, is my right hand man,” Hunter explained, “He’s ex-CIA, well trained and a capable combatant. He’s also human, which is a great help to us. He will keep me liked with the other resources at my disposal, allowing me to make full use f them while conducting this operation.”
“Katrina, or Jenny, is an illusionist, as you have seen,” he began, “Her abilities will prove most useful.” He paused, as it wasn’t that simple. The real reason he was bringing Katrina along was because of the foolish attachment he was developing for the girl. But would Paragon believe him if he told her.
“She’s not only coming for her abilities,” he said, not quite sure of how to put it into words, “Her father was one of the senators who voted for the mutant registration bill. He’s unaware of his daughter’s abilities. She feels in partway responsible for this, and so wants to be able to help. I felt this would be safer than allowing her to fight the Stalkers.”

" 'Useful'. Of course. Why else keep a kid around?" So much for keeping her tone neutral.
“She’s not only coming for her abilities. Her father was one of the senators who voted for the mutant registration bill. He’s unaware of his daughter’s abilities. She feels in partway responsible for this, and so wants to be able to help."
"Why should she feel responsible for what her father does?" Iris hadn't actually intended for that to sound sarcastic, since she did mean it, but somehow it seemed to happen anyway. She frowned a bit.
"I felt this would be safer than allowing her to fight the Stalkers.”
"How benevolent of you." That was supposed to be sarcastic. "Does she know why she's here?" She left off 'really'.
“She knows,” Hunter answered, “But the reason that she wants to come with us is to stay with me. In all the turmoil that has happened she has turned to me in search of a parental figure.”
Hunter fell silent, unsure of what to say. He somehow doubted that Paragon would believe that he reciprocated her feelings. Still, he’d promised to tell her the truth, a promise that he intended to keep, whether she liked it or not.

"Really?" Iris raised an incredulous eyebrow. The disbelief didn't come from Katrina seeking a parental figure; Iris had done the same thing with her Tio Max and Tia Carol. But the fact that Hunter had allowed it to be him just seemed..... Well....
"You haven't used that mind trick thing on her have you?"
“No,” Hunter answered, “nor will I, Just like I won’t use it on you again.” He would not use his powers on family unless they asked him to, and as far as he was concerned Katrina was family.
It was clear that Paragon was surprised, but he could see that she wasn’t beyond belief. That gave him the faint glimmer of hope that she might begin to see him as a person, not just a monster. He knew that he was not a good person, that was unlikely to ever change, but he wanted Paragon to see that there was more to him than that.

People make funny faces when you stare at them...
Iris blinked away the memory, covering it with a grumbled, "Hrrmph," and a shift in her seat to stare out the window. Sensing her mother's irritableness, in the back seat Ebony growled, but mercifully didn't add her voice to the tension.
Rather than further the conversation, and possibly her annoyance, she changed the subject slightly. "Can she control her mutation enough to walk the streets freely? Without causing a stir with the illusions? And is there a shopping strip within walking distance of the apartment? If not, I need a set of the car keys."
She paused, glancing at him out of the corner of her eye. Then she added, "And I am not cooking."
(OOC: Apologies about my absence, but I should be getting my laptop back tomorrow so will be back posting as normal (I hope))
IC: Hunter could hear some of the hostility leaving Paragon’s voice. The final comment made him smile. “No need to worry, I’ll do all the cooking. Katrina has enough control, she won’t cause a stir in public. As for a shopping strip, I’m not sure. You could always go for a walk with Katrina and have a look for one.”
Pulling over he stopped the car outside an apartment block. It was nice, not as flash as his usual places of residence, but would be more than comfortable to live in. “Well, here we are,” he said, “our new home. Let’s go have a look shall we?”
