The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

(OOC: Feel free to fill in the blank 'shouts' for Nick and his friend if you'd like.
“I didn’t, further more I don’t answer to you, I answer to my superiors. And I believe I warned you about your tone.”
"Okay, enough. We don't need to make a scene here." Iris was pleased to note she didn't shout, though she felt like it. "I'm not going to stand here and debate idiocy with a pair of experts. Nick, you have an issue with Darren and I, take it up with him. I'm gone."
She turned and skated away, back toward the rink entrance. Nick shouted something at her retreating form, but she ignored him for the sake of keeping her power under wraps.
But there was still one problem. Virote. He knew way too much about what they'd been discussing. That meant either he mastered in Bluffing 101....
..... or he did know what they were talking about. Option Two could onlyl mean trouble for her.
She glanced over her shoulder to see if he'd followed her.

Iris jerked backwards a bit in surprise, and tensed.
“Sorry those guys came off as thugs and so I just started talking, I hope I haven’t made to much trouble for you."
<"Trouble? V, you haven't a clue what trouble is...."> Nick was an annoyance for sure, and a possible difficulty. But lately it took quite a bit for something to rate as true 'trouble' for Iris. If she went by the normal meaning of the word, her existance was trouble....
"My intentions were to get you out of trouble, I really had no idea what it was all about at first but I started putting it together as he kept talking… I am confused as to where you actually stand.
She eyed the asian man. Cats handled; time to deal with the hawk.....
"My stand on what?" she stalled. "Those clowns? They're nothing. Just two-bit idiots with big mouths and small brains. I'm sorry you had to see that."

“I’ve seen worse, no reason to apologize for stupidity within the populace.”
Iris snorted, and pulled off one skate.
“Well, from what I heard, you are mixed up in the COH, and maybe Katie that you don’t want to be in it. Maybe that you were helping mutants…Or maybe Iris, your man’s dragging you into something you don’t want to be in thus you are flirting in the park with other men?”
She opened her mouth to retort that she wasn't the one flirting, then shut it when he continued, "or at least not turning them away when they are flirting with you." She shrugged, and pulled off the other skate.
"Or maybe I am wrong and you do hate mutants and those thugs are wrong about you. One way or the other I have seemed to meet a very interesting woman today, all wrapped up in mystery. So snow white, where do you stand?”
She leaned forward, settling her chin in her hand, and gnawed on her lip for a moment. In all of that speech, she didn't pick up a single indicator of where he stood. Any other time, she would have continued to beat around the bush, so to speak.
But after all of this nonsense, she was tired, especially of hiding. She wasn't a good enough liar to hide what she was so much. She leaned down to put her shoes back on.
“Tell you what, before or if you are going to be honest with me, I will be honest with you. You can ask me whatever you want before you decide who you are, or I guess you could always simply leave us how we started the day, as strangers though, I would be disappointed.”
With a sigh she stood up, a resigned expression on her face.
"To put it in a nutshell, I'm none of the above. As for questions?" She nodded toward Nick and his crew. "You're a good enough bluffer that I don't think I'd believe your answers now anyway." She smiled to take any sting off of the words, but she meant it. "As for strangers..... Well, you are cute. But it's probably bad for your health to be around me for long so....." She shrugged, and sighed again.
"Thanks for the drink, V." She turned to walk away.

“Let me buy you another. I’m not used to chasing women, but seeing as you think I’m cute and all."
Inwardly, Iris sighed. Of course, it wouldn't be that easy. That would be too easy.....
"I don’t mind danger, I wouldn’t sit there and talk trash to thugs if I minded. I will tell you a bit about myself that will settle where we stand.”
She glanced over her shoulder at him.
“I love mutants. If you are coh we have no business being around each other, but If you are in something you want out of I could help, and encourage anyone putting your health at risk to stop."
Her mouth twitched. That kind of encouragement would take some tall talking.... Or the type of encouragement she didn't want any part of, directly or indirectly.
"I sympathize with them greatly; I mentioned being an activist earlier, well seems we are on different sides of the fence. After that statement you either are disgusted with me or we see eye to eye. So how about it snow, you still thirsty?”
She smiled slightly. "No, but thank you. But to put your mind at ease,"<"Maybe,"> she added silently, "I'm not disgusted at all. Far from it, in fact. It's just that, in my mind, there is no fence."

‘Well, if you won’t let me hydrate you again, then there isn’t much I can do, would you mind my company until at least, they quit following us?”
Her first reaction was smile; he sure was persistant. Reaction Two wiped the smile away quickly. They were being followed? That could only mean trouble. Even though she planned to avoid the CoH from now on, and didn't intend to help Hunter anymore, she also didn't want to jeapordize the rest of his mission.
“I am afraid that if there is no fence then you might be in more trouble then you know. After all, most take not being on their side as being on the other. Is it optimism or pessimism that makes you able to ignore the white picket beast?”
"Um.... a bit of both, actually....." she replied, distracted. "Not everyone approves of violence, you know."
She paused at the street, debating whether to take a taxi back to the apartment, or to see if she could disappear elsewhere.

"If I could, I would never act violently, but I am afraid that once more others don't quite agree and sometimes a simple defense of one self isn't enough, sometimes while unfortunate, it is necessary to ones survival."
She turned to look at him, thoughtful.
"Well Snow, here is my number."
Snow? She shook her head. Not one to handle compliments very well, she figured his standards must be low.
"If you have need of a little bit more than defense, or if you simply want to go out sometime. It would be my pleasure I assure you. Until we meet again, Snow."
She glanced at the number, then back at Virote. He was headed back the direction they'd come, and the group following them. She reached out to grab his shoulder.
"Thanks for the offer, V, but really I can take care of myself." She didn't like the look of what was shaping up to be another confrontation. "There's no reason to worry, honestly."

(OOC: Yes, she did.)
" Missed me already? Then I suppose I will have to settle for a date instead of playing prince charming."
"I-ah.... oh.... that's not what I mea-" Iris started to say.
"I am sure that you can take care of yourself, but the man with the glasses and is slightly balding just took several pictures of me with you, and after some study would destroy any cover that I bought for you, it would line you up with a mutant...activist. And I am sure that would destroy whatever cover you have."
She blew a huff of air out and up, ruffling her hair slightly. She had to admit, he was right.
"So I am simply going to remove the film from his camera. If it does turn into anything eventful, I promise to stun them, opposed to doing any permanent damage, go ahead and grab a cab, that way you aren't associated with this more than you have to be."
She glanced over her shoulder, back at the street, then back at Virote.
"Well, I guess that's okay...." She paused again, then sighed. "Just.... be careful." Shaking her head, she went back to the curb and whistled at a taxi. She got in, and disappeared into New York traffic, once again feeling guilty for a reason she couldn't quite place.

(OOC: Timeline = about a month (roughly) after the Registration Law is turned over. Open to anyone.)
Iris took a long, deep breath, and let it out slowly. She felt uncharacteristically calm. For once nothing in the world really worried or disheartened her. No, her life was no better than it had been a month ago, or even two months ago. But she had decided, at least for today, that there was nothing she could do to improve it, so there was no point in trying to. Not right now anyways. For now, she simply basked in the peace around her.
Currently she had wandered into the Japanese water gardens of the Botanic Gardens, an attraction that had become her favorite spot in New York. True it cost money to visit, whereas Central Park could provide the same environment for free. But unlike Central Park, there were no bad memories here to bother her. Though her meeting with Detective Kelley had started rather awkwardly, and her encounter with Virote wasn't much better, no violence had resulted. Lately she had been clinging to that bit of comfort, that not every confrontation had to end in a fight.
Plus, all other factors aside..... It reminded her of home.
Iris sat on the edge of a bridge that straddled the lily pond. Every now and then she would toss a few bits of food to the koi below. A lone duck fought with the fish over the tidbits, and quacked irritably at her to toss more in. It reminded her of the duck pond back home. Idly she wondered if last year's ducklings had returned to start nests of their own.
A soft breeze ruffled the stuffily hot air. She yawned, and dropped another handful of fish food into the water.

" koi...koy? Coy? coi? those fish are supposed to bring good luck."
Iris flinched a bit and looked up in surprise. Okay, so she was still a bit jumpy; she doubted that would ever go away now. But at least she didn't scare enough for any of her gems to threaten activation.
Her face did turn a bit pink, however, when she saw it was Virote speaking. Not a huge surprise, given their last conversation. She glanced down at the water as he sat next to her.
"I've heard that. Intelligent, too. Too bad they can't pass it on," she remarked wistfully, and dropped in a few more bits.

"If they could I'd say we need to import quite a few more to this city. particularly to those cab drivers..." That made her smile, having used that form of transport to reach the Gardens. "Well maybe we need the fish that brings common sense more than intelligence on that one."
She snorted. "I don't think there's enough fish in the world to make that possible."
"So, what brings you to the fish? if you need alone time I understand. I can go?"
"No, you're fine," she replied, perhaps a bit hastier than she intended. She reached up to push a strand of hair behind her ear, to hide her awkwardness. "I just like coming here. Its peaceful, and reminds me of home."
She emptied the last of her handful and wiped the crumbs off into the water as well. She accepted his offer and plucked a few more pellets from his hand, smiling a bit. She dropped most of them into the middle of the little squabble now going on below.
"So, did you ever find those Xmen you were looking for? The Mansion's back up and running again, now." Actually, she hadn't been to the Mansion in almost a week, though not for any reason she could pinpoint.

"Actually I have been working by myself, mostly stopping petty stuff, and stupid criminals...though I intend on going any day now."
She chuckled a bit and glanced up at him. "Are you trying out for New York's version of Superman?"
"I acctually stopped by the mansion briefly seeking you. when they said you weren't there well.. I looked here."
"I come here a lot." She intended to just gloss over the fact he'd been intentionally looking for her. However, once the words were out, she realized that she may have just made it easier for him. She felt her face grow warm again, and looked back at the water.
"If you'd like to see home where ever that may be...."
"Midwest mountains," she said absently.
"....and thought you could risk flying, I could get you there? even if you felt like just going by for a visit."
"Maybe."<"Stop encouraging him!"> she chided herself mentally. Though the thought of going home, even briefly, was highly appealing....
"Personally I don't care much for home. I am afraid I have to find a new one."
"Me too." Her eyelids drooped a little, and she echoed his sigh. She blinked, and felt a lump forming in her throat.
" I have always admired ducks. they can do it all. walk fly and swim. when I was younger I always thought it'd be great to be a duck."
The sudden subject change pulled a smile back onto her face, and a soft laugh from her throat. "A duck? Why a duck? Why not a swan?" Abruptly she grimaced, remember her last encounter with the big white birds and their attitudes. "Mm, nevermind. Ducks are good. Ducks are great."
She dropped the final bits of food into the water, then sighed and leaned against the bridge post.
"I think I'd like to be a chameleon. It'd be nice to be able to blend in anywhere."

"Ha! I see you have had run ins with geese and swans as well, too much attitude....though I suppose at plenty of times in my life,a swan would have been more fitting. and you know I bet if the ducks were bigger they'd try to push us around as well. "
The mallard below quacked, as if agreeing with him. Iris smiled in amusement.
" I'm sorry Iris...." And then he stopped. She glanced up after a moment, curious. ".....too pretty for a chameleon. Stars were meant to shine, I'm afraid."
And there went the warm face again.
" but i guess if I get to be a duck, you can be a chameleon. Lets just hope no cruel fairy tale witch reminds us to be careful what we wish for. new york might be rough for a chameleon and a duck."
She certainly wished she could fade into the scenery right at that moment. It would be so much easier than trying to explain she wasn't looking to start a relationship with anyone. She scratched at her arm nervously.
"If you needed a place to crash in the meantime... I have a couple of extra rooms...."
A somewhat shocked look passed over her face when he offered that.
"I am never there and the rent on the place..."
Even while he was speaking, she started jabbering about having her own apartment already, and how that's not what she meant about needing a new home. However her words got jumbled and didn't make much sense in her nervousness.
And then he added, " someone might as well use it. beats sleeping on park benches," and grinned at her. That remark reinforced the blush, and effectively silenced her babbling.
"Sorry if that is forward or to blunt or whatever, I can be a social blunder at times...the offer stands either way though."
"No, no, you're fine," she managed to get out, starting to stutter nervously. "I'm just.... n-not used to being around people."
<"Hmm.... make yourself seem like mountain hillbilly. That's a thought....">
"I-I've got an apartment. Thanks for the offer though. It-it was sweet. Nice! I mean nice! Um...."
She cleared her throat and forced herself to actually look at him again, in an attempt, failed though it may have been, to appear as dignified as she didn't feel.

“Ah, so you mean Home, home, not quite where you live, I don’t know why, but I assumed that you lived at the Xavier place. Seems like it would be a pretty solid place to go, actually I was thinking about… well you already know, About me looking for the x-men.”
She nodded, and managed a smile. "I-it's a nice place. I wasn't there f-for long, but...." She shrugged, and took a deep breath, hoping to clear the stammer from her speech. "I don't know about the Xmen, but the other residents were very friendly. I still visit, but...."
She shrugged and looked away, finally managing to reign in her babbling.
“So, what is on the agenda for today?”
She blinked and looked back at him in confusion. "Agenda? I-"
She opened her mouth, then closed it again. Come to think of it, she hadn't given much consideration to the rest of her day. She'd been to the Mansion numerous times this week, to help clean up the grounds. At some point she was supposed to meet with the Assistant Head Mistress about possibly working at the school, but for some reason she had been putting that off. Though if she wasn't going to work there, she needed to find somewhere else to. Her Tia and Tio couldn't afford two rents for more than a few months, and she didn't want to burden them any longer than necessary. And she needed to go grocery shopping for herself and her animals. Plus her own garden needed supplies.....
A slight grimace passed over her face. "I guess I haven't really thought about it....."
Yet another flush colored her cheeks, though not nearly as intense as the past few. This one simply came from personal irritation that she had to return to real life eventually. She reached up to pull herself to her feet, and started dusting off her clothes.

"well I hadn't meant to interrupt your peace. I think I might talk to whoever it is I need to talk to soon about joining up over there."
"Me too," she remarked softly, her gaze wandering a bit. She had to get over her unease eventually, for her friends' sake if nothing else. Maybe it was something else holding her back....
"Listen, next time we run in to each other, I wouldn't mind it being over dinner or something. maybe even planned?"
She watched him jump over the railing, holding onto the wrong side and grinning a bit goofily at her. Abruptly she realized how tall he was. She wasn't used to having to look up at people.
"in fact if you have nothing else planned for tonight, maybe we could go on that date tonight."
<"Gotta give him credit, he's persistant....">
She intended to say, 'Yes, I have plans.' But what came out was just, "Yes." And hearing herself say it she tried to correct herself. Instead she got, "I mean okay. I-I mean.... I guess...." Again she began nervously picking at her sleeve.

" Sounds good, do you want to do the usual dinner and a movie? or perhaps we could try something else? We still have bit of unfinished Ice skating I think."
"Um, well...." She paused, trying to decide which of those two suggestions she could most easily avoid anything embarrassing happening. Or prompting any further advances from him. Though that latter thought was probably a moot point now.
"Or if you would rather take a rain check we could do that as well, I'd Understand."
Now that's what she really wanted. But she also didn't want to be rude, so she didn't reply to the offer.
"But I just might have to sweep you off your feet another time."
Okay, so a rain check was definitely out, given that she didn't know him well enough to tell if he was joking or not. Best to get this done and over with now, and worry about the next time..... well, next time.
"Do you dance? we could go dancing."
"Dancing? I don't know how to dance." Again, she hadn't planned on saying that aloud, but it popped out anyway. How did he manage to keep doing that to her??
