The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Alex nodded along quietly, not minding the peace between them. Despite how scary New York at night could seem when you were on the streets, from the inside of a car it wasn't too bad. There were a few scattered people here and there, those who worked late and those who had no options. It felt weird being on the other side of the glass. Even after so long, it wasn't something he could just simply forget, the fear, the anxiety. He moved on but he still worried that he may end up there again. "We should fix that, man. I mean, trolling the park at this time of night is not gonna get you the kind of girl you'd want to introduce to you new dad so maybe that's out. There's gotta be somewhere..."
Alex grinned nervously and didn't answer right away, instead giving a soft laugh at the suggestion. But he could feel the color drain a little from his face. Hopefully not too noticeable in the dark of the car. Hopefully Leo would just write it off a romance novice being nervous at the prospect of even trying. Not that he wasn't, he has never been a relationship after all, but there were other concerns on his mind when it came to these things.
"Oh look, there's the bodega!" Thank god, he didn't know if could have held up the conversation any longer. All they had to do was get in and get the snack, maybe let Leo flirt a little, before going home and playing some more games before passing out. He didn't want to be dragged into any of the flirting, so he prayed that it was just the one girl and Leo wouldn't be tempted to hook him up with some poor girl he had no interest in.
"She sometimes complains about the night security guard. Apparently the guard is a bit racist and wants to talk about less government and yay guns and stuff. I wonder if she told him that she went to the pussyhat march. He woulda had a coronary."
He chuckled and nodded his head, "Way too many folks care about their guns more than people. I mean, I get it you wanna be safe, especially in places where the cops don't arrive all that fast. But the response time in the city is really fast. Hopefully this guy doesn't act on his opinions." Some people had the idea that a gun gave them the authority to dole out justice as they saw fit. Those were some scary people.
"What about you? Isn't there somebody you want to go see somewhere?"
He blinked, giving Leo a quick glance before pulling his eyes back to the road. "What? No, nobody I'm invested in at the moment. Life has been too...busy for that."he shrugged. Yup, definitely too busy and having nothing to do with his lack of confidence or fear of failure. And certainly having nothing to do with the fear that his preference may loose him his only friends and may even push away his adopted parent.
The roads were quiet, not that busy this time of night. There were cars of course, but not nearly as many as there may have been during the day. It made the drive easier, faster, and the faster they got there, the faster they could drop the topic of his non-existent love life.
Victor - Could be tailed secretly for b-roll footage, but I don't think he'd like to be interviewed again. He's mostly trying to stay out of the spot-light. And certainly not because of his Ragnorak ties...
Alex - You know he's available and willing to speaking his mind about anything. Also, he'd totally be okay with showing off his powers and train regiment. He'll even drive with Leo to the memorial site to get that footage and reactions. He's heard about the camps but being there, face to face with it would be terrifying.
Honestly, since the camps were not that long ago, some interviews with those who lived through it would be really interesting and heartbreaking. Also, looking into areas where the community/population is rather dense on the mutant-side would be cool. Places where mutants have grouped up to help each other.
Ps: I'd totally be down for doing art for this, fake screenshots and the like. They wouldn't be perfect or might just focus on b-roll stuff, but I'd love to take a shot at it.

“You be surprised by what your… Dad gets up to when left to his own devices,”
He gave a chuckle and shook his head, "I'd rather not know what he gets up to on his own time. Gives me enough trouble as is." He sipped his beer again and wondering if he could grab a second. Probably wouldn't be happening if Sam had anything to say about it. Someone had to be sober-ish at least and him being the technical minor here made him it.
“So… Are you enjoying your classes? Getting on alright with the other students? I hope Sam’s not being too hard on you with the training.”
He was about to answer before Sam returned, finally in his own suit and with a new eye patch. That was actually something he kind of wanted to ask Sam about. Why did he need an eye patch? What happened to his eye? It was a question for another time, not something to bring up at Thanksgiving dinner.
"He is still in the public eye, meaning I have to go easy on him. Figure you got another month till I can start the real training."
He corked a brow at Sam's words, "Oh boy, real training and here I thought our current pace was hard enough." Alex shrugged his shoulders and looked over at Juliette, "It's been okay so far. I'm just really far behind compared to other people my age. But friends-wise I'm doing okay, they kind of keep me from working myself to death."
He definitely owed Jiri and Leo a lot when it came to basically keeping him stable. Otherwise, he might be buried in books and ignoring his basic needs in his profound rush to catch up on school and keep up with training. Sam was a good dad but his friends were definitely important to him too. "Looking like we are ready to bring out the food… Chef!"
"That's my cue." Alex grabbed the oven mitts and quickly stepped over to the oven. Looked like everything was done and with the counter cleared and ready, all he had to do was pull the food out and set it down. "Now this is gonna be delicious, I am so ready for this."he murmured. He had never cooked a meal this big, so it was something to be proud of.

Alex smiled a little as Leo began to ramble on about this girl he wanted to see again at the bodega. He had heard Leo talk about her before but he usually just kind of tuned it out. He wasn't all that interested. Romance just wasn't for him, it made his heart ache a little, he wanted it but it was a little more complicated than it should be. At least it felt more complicated, with the way the world worked and the way his life worked.
Mutant, with a public record in that he killed a man in self-defense and a public life in that he spouted a good portion of his life and views online. There was very little about him he felt was appealing in a romantic sense, that and he was...gay. He had been doing research, looking into it, trying to understand himself and why he didn't feel that way about girls. He had plenty of interactions with women, older and girls his own age, and always felt nothing. There was nothing there for him. But with guys it was different and the internet seemed to confirm that, yes, indeed one can be gay without displaying any of the classic stereotypes.
The internet had been helpful...kind of. There was a lot of misinformation and hate when it came to the LGBT, nearly as much as there was for mutants, but for entirely different reasons. It was disheartening and with the way things went with him...He didn't want to potentially bring someone who was already in danger, into further danger. It just wouldn't be fair.
They made it to his truck before they knew it and he pushed all those thoughts and feelings down. He could sort them out later. Now was not the time for it. "So, 12th street, to the bodega. You think she's gonna be there this time of night?"he asked, as casual as can be whilst starting up the truck. It took a second for the engine to catch up but soon enough they were off.

Alex gave a small jump when the cop's foot came crashing down on Jiri's computer. He stood there in disbelief that such an act, the destruction of private property basically unprovoked. He held down the need to use his powers, he was inherently illegal here after all. If they found out that he was a mutant worse thing might happen than just a destroyed laptop.
However, things went from scary to down right terrifying. First the cop's buddy came over with a tablet, one with a picture of him. They knew about him, they knew what he was, what he could do. One of them was even reaching for a pouch on his belt. He looked over at Jiri and then Leo, who had positioned himself between the cops and him. There was no waiting for this to come to a nice conclusion. The thundering in his heart told him it was time to go.
He grabbed Jiri and Leo by the shoulder and gave them a shove away from the police, "Run!" As soon as they start he went after. His friends were priority, he could handle abuse but Jiri and Leo weren't up to the task, it would break them. He wouldn't let that happen.
Unfortunately he wasn't fast enough, the second cop tackling him to the ground, "Hold it ya lil freak! You're under arrest!" Alex struggled, trying desperately to keep his hands out of the man's grip, "Get off of me!" He reached for his powers, this time not a repeat of the incident that sent him to court. No, that's what his backpack was for. He converted the food into a single cat, all claws and rage to attack the cop.
It worked for a moment, allowing him to scramble up and away from the officer. But again it was too little, too late. The cop was able to throw the cat off, then bull rush him with taser in hand. The pain of electricity arcing through his body was enough to cut the connection and allow the officer time to cuff him. Alex shook his head, struggling even as the officer placed one of those power controlling collars around his neck, "We didn't do anything wrong..."

Alex ended up taking second place to Peach, the pink princess getting him with one last green shell. Wasn't all that bad given his lack of experience. Maybe he was just lucky, maybe Leo was just out of practice. In either case he really needed this, he'd have to find a way to thank Leo sometime, return the favor. He didn't know how it would do it but he'd figure it out eventually. "For someone who said they were inexperienced, you sure are kicking my ass."
He shrugs his shoulders, "Eh, just good luck I guess." Better not rub it in or risk souring the mood with anything. He set his controller down and gave a stretch before relaxing in his seat a bit more. He was just about ready to join Jiri in slumber. Though for Jiri it might actually body hoping at the moment and they would never know.
"I could use a break, actually. You wanna go on a supply run?"
He gave a groan and tried to sink further into the plush nest of pillows and blankets, "Aw but I'm comfyyyy." He closed his eyes for a moment, blindly fishing for his keys. "Found my keys, alright, I guess we can go."he murmured. He had only gotten his license a few months ago and of course his friends wanted to take advantage of that often enough.
The truck his father gave him as an old hand-me-down, a little scratched and rusted but it ran just fine. Well enough to get them to the convenience store anyway.

“Close. He got in a fight with an angry pickpocketing mutant and was too scared to go see DocProf, I stitched him up.”
He raised a brow at that, "Really? First time I'm hearing about it. Are you a nurse?" He couldn't imagine Sam being afraid of anyone. He hadn't met the Doc yet though. He had heard stories sure, but not anything that was really worrying. "Was it bad?" He had to ask, there had to be another reason he went to Juli instead of the readily available DocProf.
“We went pumpkin picking a little while ago and he wouldn’t leave without first getting pie.”
"I didn't realize dad like pie that much. I'll have to remember that next time I get on his bad side."he chuckled before taking a sip of his beer. He and Juli seemed to be hitting it off. She was friendly enough and wasn't interesting in asking about his past. By his terms she was alright. Perhaps this wouldn't be so bad and he might have...good god, a mom? That'd be weird to think, but yeah. If Sam was his dad and if he married Juli, she'd be his mom.
“You’re not allergic to nuts, are you? I forgot to ask.”
He shook his head, "Not as far as I know. I haven't had an allergic reaction to anything really." He shrugged and looked over to where Sam had gone, wondering when he'd get back. The timer on the oven counted down, so they still had a while before they had to take anything out.

Alex had admittedly been training a lot lately, that and studying not just for school but for his powers too. He was getting stronger, he knew it, he just had to push a little harder. Though in the past few weeks Leo has been begging him to play hookie, call in sick so they could hang out. But he couldn't do it, he had so much to do, so much to catch up on, and he couldn't afford to waste time. He didn't know why but it always felt like he was racing against something, it felt like something was coming, and he had to be ready.
But then Sam, his dad, went on mission and disappeared, then Mr. Wong, Hades, disappeared too. With both of them gone, it was on him to continue training on his own. He would keep it up, because that's what was expected of him. Unexpectedly though, Leo invited him to one of the class rooms and the guy had set up his whole thing just so they could have some fun, hang out, relax.
One night of goofing off wouldn't be too bad, it wouldn't ruin everything he was working on. So video games were played and snacks were eaten and they were having a good time. In fact he may have eaten too many of the snacks, it's been a while since he felt so full and content with the world.
"Okay. You only won that last one because Bowser got me with the blue shell. You're going down, boiii! The ice level is my hands-down favorite!"
He laughed and shook his head, "Not my fault you got cocky towards the end. You should have held on to those red shells to cover you. Maybe you'll win this one though, who knows." He smirked at Leo, no matter what he said, Alex was simply a better tactician and these games came surprisingly easy to him. He didn't play a lot as a kid, bible-thumper fosters that he had only let them have a few select, non-violent ones. So most of his childhood was spent outside. Yet, here he was, beating Leo's nerdy but with ease.

"I don’t need a suit. This is the first time you are meeting my girlfriend. First impressions are everything Alex."
Alex frowned, then smirked as a thought crossed his mind, "My bet is that she first met you in a drunken stupor, am I close? Or was it a fist fight?" That had to be it, because as far as he knew Sam only went out for one of a few reasons; the bar, his x-men duties, or camping. And that third one really hadn't come up yet. He honestly should get around to asking about camping, he hadn't slept in the woods for so long he feared he was getting too comfortable with all the convenience normal life brought.
"Look how polite you’re being, asking for a beer. Somebody found some manners."
He rolled his eyes, maturity be damned, and took the offered beer, "I only ask because I know now you'll most likely say yes." He opened the bottle, with an opener this time, and took a sip. He glanced over at Juliette and laughed nervously. Right, technically he wasn't legal yet. "Not that I drink all the time. Just one or two and always with him. So it's safe...ish."
At the mention of no one being sober for cooking he merely shrugged his shoulders. Then Sam was off to get his suit on and Alex called after him, "Yeah I thought so, no suit my foot." Sam's reply was of course to limit the topics he and Juliette could talk about. Though one stuck out, "His love of pumpkin pies?" He just had to ask Juli about that one, sounded way more lighthearted than his run ins with the law.

Alex could see the recognition in her eyes and for a moment he feared she'd run for the hills. After all, who'd want to have dinner with a murderer. But she remained, face friendly and accepting and that was really all he could ask for. He still couldn't leave the school grounds without causing some sort of disturbance just by existing, especially in less mutant populated areas. Nothing thrown at his head yet sure but it was only a matter of when.
Still, back to the present, she was asking about school and he smirked at Sam's reply. "Yeah, still in school. When I first got there I was already kind of behind and then some other stuff happened and I'm still behind. Feels like I'm never going to get out."he shrugged.
He glanced over at Sam, still in apron and the like, "What? No suit for you? Am I the only one who got dressed fancy for this?" He was very tempted to at least remove the tie and jacket, if only to make himself more comfortable. The tie still felt too tight around his neck, like it would chock him at any moment. He might have to bring it up to Miss T in counseling, probably had everything to do with his experience with the collars, another trauma to add to the ever growing list. There now more things wrong with him then there seemed to be right.
He tried to push the stress down, think of anything else. His eyes landed on the glasses of beer and then looked up at Sam, "Think I can have one tonight or would that be improper in front of guests?"

(OOC: Sorry for the late reply, work caught me in it's grasp after Thanksgiving.)
Alex fiddled with his tie for a moment before giving up. This was maybe the second time he had to wear one in a long time and he really didn't enjoy it. Always felt too tight around his neck. Maybe that was just the nerves talking. Sam's girlfriend was supposed to show up and they were supposed to meet and have a civil dinner. But he didn't know what Sam told her. Did he tell her about the trial and everything? Or was this just going to be a surprise?
He really hoped it wasn't a surprise for her. He didn't want to feel bad for something he had no control over. People still tiptoed around him if they didn't have the full story. Which was basically everybody...
He heard the front door open and Sam talking to someone; female voice, that must be her. No more time to mess with his tie, it was time to introduce himself. Stepping out and back down the hall to the kitchen he saw her back first. "Uh, hey, you must be Juliette, nice to finally meet you,"he said holding out his hand for a shake, all the while internally begging that she wouldn't freak out, that Sam had told her everything about him.

Thanksgiving was a weird concept for him. While he understood it perfectly well, he had always been on the outside looking in. This was the first time he was actually involved. So he was understandably uncomfortable with the hat and the apron Sam had given him. The hat in particular. While it wasn't as big as his dad's, it still felt like it was wobbling all over the place and generally felt unnecessary. But Sam's pointed command while not even looking at him was enough to at least try to get him not to.
So on the hat and apron stayed. Not that it mattered much, he was nearly done with his portion of the ham and turkey. The mash-potatoes were ready for baking and so was the mac n' cheese. The biscuits was already done and Sam was taking care of the stuffing. It was a little too much food for just the three of them. But these were foods he had asked for and, well, leftovers for days. He wasn't going to complain about that.
"How’s the turkey looking son!?! And the ham?"
"Ham's done and ready for the oven. Turkey's just waiting on the stuffing. Remember the turkey has to be in extra long to bake the stuffing all the way through."he answered, wishing he had been allowed a beer but again didn't complain. Sam wanted at least one of them sober. He opened the oven, hefted the ham up and slid it on to the bottom rack.
"Juliette should be here soon, there is a suit in the smaller bedroom closet for you."
Alex nodded and washed his hands in the sink. "Alright, all go change now since everything just needs to be baked now."he said playfully flicking some water in his dad's direction before trotting off to get changed. He wasn't a fan of suits but apparently that was another thing about this holiday. You had to dress nice, even if it was just three people enjoying a meal together.

Lately, though not always recognizing it at first, Alex hadn't been feeling like himself. Reaction time slowed, attention wavering in and out, and worse his dream state took on bizarre twists. It made sleep uncomfortable and waking more so. Sometimes, he'd wake and find himself unable to move. A little research found that this was likely just sleep paralysis, yet no strange nightmare things ever came of it. So he put it to the back of his mind and tried to ignore it.
But things were never that simple. It was never so easy for him or for people like him. That said, poor Jiri had to deal with this too, given that the other boy was his roommate and friend. The zoning out and slowed reaction during waking times wasn't so bad. But the dreams, the dreams became far more intimate with Alex's personal experiences. Jiri got front row seats to the warped memories and sensations, the emotions that came with all that.
It was...embarrassing. Alex didn't know how Jiri felt, he didn't think he wanted to know how he felt about the ordeal. He partly worried that the other boy was disgusted with him and was just hiding it. He found himself anticipating being forced away. His dad and Miss T both reassured him that, that wouldn't happen. That he wouldn't be suddenly abandoned by the few friends he had. This self imposed stress was destructive but Alex didn't feel like he had any control over it.
Laying down for bed, he dreaded Jiri joining his head-space again or what events were going to be played out this time. Maybe this time, maybe Jiri's mind would find another person to possess, another to watch and participate in their dreams.

Alex could feel how tense Sam got with something as simple as his head on his shoulder. He didn't want to make things more uncomfortable than they already were. But he wanted physical contact more than that. He just needed it, a grounding in reality, something that for now, he could prove was real. It was small and silly for a young man like him to need, but he just needed it.
For once he was going to let himself be close to someone. An adoptive father was a good start. "Yeah… It’s gonna be a while before we drink together again."
Alex gave a soft laugh at that and smiled, "Sorry..." Guess he'd have to find this elsewhere, cuddle therapy was a thing right? He probably read about it somewhere a while ago, he couldn't quite remember where or when or how he'd even come across such information. He blinked sleepily and stared down at his empty glass before closing his eyes again. In any case, no matter how uncomfortable Sam was, Alex felt...better, safe.
Without even realizing it, he had fallen asleep, lulled to it by the comfort of someone else's presence and the alcohol in his system.
(Ooc: Think this or the next post might be a good place to stop.)
