The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Alex laid there, head spinning, probably bleeding in a couple spots and he knew he should probably start struggling again, fight back. But he knew, he knew if he did, it'd be all his fault if these bastards died or got hurt and he'd be in trial again and he'd probably be sent to jail regardless of what happened. Sam would be so upset with him, he'd probably disown him, and he'd be alone again. So he didn't, despite every instinct screaming that he should fight, he ignored it.
However, something miraculous happened, someone had come. He couldn't see very well, but the weight of the men lifted off him and he could see someone fighting them with something glowing in hand. He laid there, trying to regain the will to move just enough to scoot out of the way. That done, he watched his savior take on the three brutes. It was almost like watching a movie, like this guy was a knight in shining armor come to save him.
Or was the shining bit real. He couldn't tell, he was sure he had a concussion or at least a really bad black eye. Man, he was going to have to sneak into doc's office for a quick heal up. He didn't mind the school doctor knowing what happened, but he didn't want his dad or anyone else finding out. They'd get worried and demand he stay on school grounds. Even though he was an adult and perfectly capable of handling himself- oh, who was he kidding?!
He should probably stay locked in his room for his own safety and never leave. At the rate things were going, he was going to die before he reached 21. It was only a matter of time before events like this finally caught up to him. He could only live on borrowed time for so long.

He watched the younger boy freak out over the prospect of being picked up and he didn't blame him. The handlers around here were not gentle, they were rough and violent at times. He was surprised, when he finally did pick the boy up he didn't immediately find any bruises. It gave him a good idea of how long he must have been in their care. Just long enough to prove no body wanted him, he remembered that, he remembered the holding cell and the constant tranquilizers.
The boy didn't have a name either, making him wonder where in the world he could have come from. He had been in foster care before this. At least then he had been aware that he had come from somewhere, that he had been given up for one reason or another. This boy...all he has are numbers on the plastic bracelet on his wrist.
At the admittance that he had been harmed, Alex could feel sympathy and rage intermingle. How dare they, how dare they?! He wanted to destroy something and hold the child close at the same time. But he couldn't do either, so instead he settled for glaring at the two-way mirror. He knew they were observing them from the other side, taking notes, making comments, watching them like flies in a jar. He scooted closer to the other boy, almost as if he could shield him with his own body.
"Bad people will hurt you no matter what, bite or no bite. They're monsters..."he murmured to the other boy. He watched him rub his head and eyes and he couldn't help but frown at the boy's distress. "We're sorry you're here. Do you remember where you came from?"he asked softly, wondering if he could somehow get the other boy back there, back to his home. Or just out of here? This was no place for a child.

He watched Leo flail to rescue the failing conversation and he could see why. Despite her earlier anger, she was quick to basically forgive him. She seemed genuinely nice and didn't immediately shut him down, like he knew many other women would have rightfully done. Alex nodded at her comment about good friends not hanging out with weirdos.
But this didn't seem to help Leo any, if anything he seemed to deflate even more. He didn't ask right away, waiting instead till after the snacks were paid for and they were in the truck. Or rather by the car, as Leo thumped his head against the frame of the car with a sigh.
"Well...that wasn't a complete failure,"he commented as gently as he could, "At least she's willing to talk to you again." That was the silver lining right, that the lines of communication were still open, Leo still had a chance to set things right. To his mind that was a win. But then again, he knew very little about romance or pining after someone or any of those things outside of the few sparse romantic movies he had watched.

They removed his chains and it took every once of restraint not to attack, not to use his body like the weapon he had been trained to be. The men walked away, satisfied and self-assured the mutant wouldn't attack them from behind. He restrained a growl, waiting till they were completely gone, before slamming his fist into the wall behind him. It hurt but the tension left him quickly and his scraped knuckles reminded him to mind his temper. He wasn't alone any more, there was a child in the room, a mutant child.
His chest ached with long forgotten emotions, empathy for another living being. Something he had been certain they had taken away from him, that there was no way he could care for another living soul again. But the boy before him looked to be the same age he had been brought in, drugged and scared. Hardly able to speak let alone stand. It wasn't right.
"Are you... one of... the bad men? They... called you... Gluttony..."
He couldn't help but snarl at the name. Slowly he stood and moved to crouch in front of the child. "Their name, not mine...Alex, we're Alex. Your name?"he asked softly, knowing that they were watching, that there were eyes everywhere. Up close, the loose clothing revealed his scarred skin. Training, tests, and beatings, the regiment of a lab rat no one cared for. Alex's own eyes were tired looking, dark bags made him look older than he was.
He reached out a hand and hesitated, "We're going to pick you up, okay?" He waited for permission before he did so, carefully carrying the child to a corner of the room that was furthest from the door. A safe spot, from here there would be enough time to get up and defend himself, and now this child it seemed. "Did they hurt you?"he asked softly, wanting to check for evidence but knowing that the child has already probably suffered under invasive hands already.

Year: 2011 Location: Remote lab 129 in [Redacted]
Alex is 21 and staring down at the cuffs on his wrists with annoyance. The short, thick chain made it impossible to really do much of anything. The chain between his wrists was connect to a collar around his neck and belt around his waist, keeping his hands centered at his chest. His ankles were similarly chained, making him unable to do little more than shuffle from spot to spot. He couldn't fight like this, there was no room for it. He was trapped and he hated it. All he could do was sit there and wait for whatever they planned to do.
He half expected them to just start beating him, as per usual. But instead, on entering the bland, blank test room, they brought a child with them. In all the time he had been trapped by S.U.P.E.R, in their tiny boxes, as their lab rat they had never brought in another. He didn't need extra senses to know this kid was a mutant. They would never bring a human child into this situation. They would never endanger one of their own. They wouldn't never bind one of their own up like him.
A growl rose from the back of his throat and he strained against his own bindings, clumsily standing up from where he had sat. "You know what this is, don't you? You're not as dull as you seem, I bet even an animal like you knows one of your own when you see one. So, here's the deal, this one can stay here and we'll unchain the both of you, if you behave yourself. No biting or kicking or punching, none of that. We don't even want to hear a word. Understand?"the guard said, keeping a tight grip on the small boy.
Alex felt sick at the thought, at the very notion of submitting after all this time. But the child was small, and scared, and that muzzle looked far too tight for someone so young. So he sat, rage trembling beneath his skin, as he held out his hands and ankles, head bowed, silently begging the best he could. "Yes..."he murmured, voice hoarse from disuse.

Alex, for all his caution, still seemed to attract trouble like flies to honey. It had been over a year since the incident but it seemed some people didn't forget. Some people still wanted revenge or to prove themselves superior to a "killer" mutant. He could only imagine that's what it was. That his status, as a mutant with a record, is what attracted jerks like these. That or the Bird Hunters were starting to get brave about what they wanted to do to mutants.
In any case, after a long chase, after another round of people staring and watching and not helping, Alex found himself in an alley with a chain link fence at the end. He stood there, panting for air and staring at the unbelievable sight. Of course, of course he'd end up backed into a corner with no material to work with. He was never going to get out of this cycle. The only way it would end was if he actually died. Which didn't seem like it was going to be a long stretch.
He turned to face his pursuers, three men in varying degrees of out of breath, stood in the way of his only escape. He slowly backed away, hands up prepared to fight, "Guys, I'm warning you, back off." A bluff, he didn't have it in him to use his powers like that again. And despite all his training, three on one was going to be hard.
They didn't waste time with talking, there were no jeers or taunting. No, they only attacked him. Alex got in a few good hits before they pinned him to the ground. He didn't get a chance to cry out for help, they just started whaling on his head and face. Knocking him out was probably the plan, unconscious was safer for them, unconscious meant they could do what they wanted and Alex couldn't do a thing to stop it.
He stopped struggling after a while, let it happen, watched black spots dance before his eyes. No one was coming to help him anyway.

Alex half listened to the conversation from where he was getting snacks and at first things seemed to be going well. They had something in common and Leo was talking about the photography she took. And that's where things went wrong. Alex had to resist the urge to facepalm as Leo started talking about metadata and how he had found out about her.
Looked like he would have to step in and stop him from completely ruining his chances. He grabbed what snacks he had and hauled them over to the counter, carefully setting them down...before giving Leo a swift but not too strong whap to the back of the head. "Stop creeping her out dude, you sound like a stalker."he sighed, sounding more like an older brother than a friend.
He looked over at her with an apologetic smile, "Sorry about that, he means well though."

AV!Alex Goya
Individual
Character's full name: Alex Maurell Goya Alias/ Nickname/ Code name: Gluttony, World Eater Gender: Male Age: 22 Date of Birth: 10/18/1995 Birthplace/ Home/ Place of origin: A foster home in Kuna, Idaho Nationality: American Ethnicity/ Cultural Heritage: Latino (Puerto Rico)
Appearance
Hair color and style: Dark brown, a bit longer and fluffier than MRO!Alex Skin Tone: Tan Eye Color: Grey Height: 5’8” Build: Lean Visible mutation: Eyes glow during power use Scars/ Tattoos/ Piercings: Faint scarring from numerous fights, beatings, and where he had used a hawk construct to dig out SUPER’s tag. Other features: N/A
Everyday clothing style: Comfortable and flexible; so hooded sweaters, hoodies, sweat pants, jeans, t-shirts, really anything that can be slept in. Uniform: Black long sleeve shirt, jacket, pants, dark military style boots, gloves, and a faceless mask that’s mostly for intimidation purposes. Generally it’s all meant to conceal his identity as much as possible and keep SUPER from finding him again. Sleepwear: Underwear Miscellaneous clothing: Always wearing a collar, tracks his movements and keeps him under control in his less stable moods.
Character
Personality: This Alex is all at once composed and not at all. His mind houses his constructs, but the barrier between his personality and theirs is thin. To a point that he’ll refer to himself as “we” rather than “I”. The animalistic tendencies of his constructs bleed over into his personality, making him standoffish to strangers, susceptible to food bribes, and quick to using brute force rather than talking things out. Sometimes he’ll even growl and bare his teeth on his worse days. Still, when he’s calm and with people he likes, he can be pleasant and talkative, or quiet if that person rather not talk. However, having his head crammed with other minds, other personalities, can make him something of a scatter shot on mood sometimes. Most days he can be pretty put together, everyone inside working together with ease, other times one or another personality takes over and he might end up wandering off on his own and causing trouble or getting into fights for no good reason. The collar was an unfortunate, but good compromise to keep him under control. Hobbies/ Interests: Puzzles; anything that he can pull apart and put back together or figure out the pattern to, or unlock, thing like that that keep his hands and mind busy. Job or part time job and description: Ragnarok's “attack dog”, doesn’t do much of anything else other than kill on command and make bodies disappear. Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Losing his powers is one of his bigger fears, but that’s only connected to his fear of being seen as useless. Has a rather big phobia of needles. Special talents: Mixed martial arts training gained from an early age
Morality
Good/bad/neutral/other: Bad-neutral; given his profession and the people he relies on and the way that the world has treated him up to this point, he could be forgiven for feeling like he doesn’t owe the world shit and he’ll take whatever he can get.
Mutations
Mutation description: Unchanged
Strengths:Unchanged Weaknesses and Limitations:Unchanged except: Alex grew his power around big but short bursts of use rather than small, steadier, long term use. Once his power drains him, he’s done, and will be near comatose for the next day or several days. That being said, Alex will only use his powers if up against multiple opponents or a mutant, otherwise he tends to rely on his martial arts training.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: For a lean guy Alex has a surprising amount of strength and speed, knocking out opponents with quick, efficient strikes. While his stamina leaves something to be desired, he more than makes up for it with generally good flexibility and well honed reflexes. Mixed that with a little parkour training and you have a very skilled killing machine. Fighting Style: Mixed martial arts, started at the age of 10 and has been consistently training since then. Fighting Style Pros/Cons: His style can be somewhat manic, quick and fierce, meant to knock opponents out in as few hits as possible, due to the worry that his stamina will run out before he can finish them. This erratic style can often lead him to forget to block or even act on the defensive, preferring to stay on the offensive even if it’s too his detriment.
History Of Your Character Unchanged except: Goya, instead of hiding his powers and preparing for the worse, immediately went to his foster parents and shared his powers. Tried to show them, tried to frame it like those bible stories he had been told. They didn’t take it like that. No, it was 2005, he was 10 years old, and mutants were still a frightening unknown. His fosters reported him and within a day someone came to pick him up, an official looking woman who said that he’d be put into special care for his special power.
He didn’t want to believe them, didn’t want to be moved somewhere unknown. But he didn’t have a choice. Alex spent the next eleven or so years as a lab rat, it was hard to tell how much real time passed. He hadn’t been allowed outside, he hadn’t seen the sun, he could only tell time by how much he was growing. He marked days by showers and haircuts, blood samples, tests, and tag changes. He was stripped of his humanity and made deeply aware than no one cared about his pain.
He tried using his powers to dig a hole out of his cell, but found that he couldn’t affect the metal, the rebar that was between the concrete, effectively caging him in. So instead he fought; he kicked and screamed and bit when they didn’t think to muzzle him. It was strange, even as he fought them, they taught him how to fight more effectively. They told him that they wanted to train him to be a hero, tried to convince him that they wanted to use him for good.
But as his powers grew, he didn’t need his constructs to smell the lie on them. So he took the training, that being the only times he would ever cooperate. At least at first.
2016 rolls around, they have spent nearly eleven years trying and failing to break him. Every action only serves to worsen his attitude, makes him more feral and reliant on force to get his way. The 21 year old was a product of their isolation and abuse. That was when they brought in another mutant; smaller, younger, scared, and just as feral as him or nearly as much. The boy had no name, no home, nothing to identify him other than mutant, and, while Alex knew it was a ploy to manipulate him, he felt for the other boy.
He couldn’t help it, some animal part of him whispered to protect this child, this other mutant. He needed to do it, there was no way he was going to let this child become a lab rat like him. So they used that against him. Made him jump through metaphorical hoops just to keep the younger mutant from having to face the testing on his own, to shield him from abuse. But he knew it couldn’t go on like that for much longer. They kept them separate for the most part and he worried what they might do without him there to protect him.
One night he found where they inserted the tag and a month later, they took him on his first field mission, bringing the boy, now call Delta 7, along as incentive to play along. But that was just what he was hoping. The first moments they had alone, he created a small falcon to dig out the tag, and, with his arm bleeding, he grabbed D7 and ran. But, somehow they got separated, somehow he was no longer able to hold on to D7 and turning back would have been the end of him.
So he kept running, his mind focusing on survival, nothing else mattered. Days passed, finding him deep in the heart of NYC. With nowhere else to go, he followed where the whispers pointed to. A man named Poseidon had an open door for mutants and it was with Ragnarok that he found his place. Those first days, he was a shivering, huddled mess, unwilling to talk, let alone explain himself, outside of the fact that he was a mutant that needed help, that needed protection. It took him time finally explain to Poseidon what had happened, the eleven years he suffered at the hands of SUPER, and that he had abandoned a child in order to get away.
The man used that against him, taking that guilt and telling him that they’d rescue the child, but at a cost. Everything had a cost. For him, an escapee with nowhere else to turn, he took it. He’s still waiting on the day Jorge fulfills his promise, when his work, the number of people he’s hurt and killed will be enough to move Ragnarok to saving a single child. It’s already been a year and he doesn’t know how much longer he can wait.

Alex ignored the cold air, having grown used to it by now. Instead he opted to point out, "Careful with that cold air, you're gonna make the food cold before we've had a chance to eat it." Nobody liked cold food and it would be on dear ol' dad if dinner was ruined. He smirked back at the man as he piled on the turkey on each plate. They'd certainly have a lot left over, even with a small turkey. Not that it'd go to waste, both him and Sam had big appetites and with Alex's powers then didn't have to worry about compositing.
With the turkey carving done, he sat down with his plate and started piling on food from the other dishes. He didn't know if there were any rules for getting the food or if it was everyone just grabs what they want but he was going to do this unless he was told to stop.
"I know what I usually do for Christmas."
"Getting black out drunk?"he teased, perhaps that came out a little meaner than he meant it but it was out now. Besides, it wasn't like Alex hadn't teased Sam about his over abundance of alcohol before. "You two have any thoughts on holidays?"
He shrugged his shoulders, "I was just hoping I could spend it with you, like a normal family. I dunno, before this I'd just ignore the holidays." Sad but true. The holidays, no matter how good willed the charity, were not made with the homeless in mind. They were for those who could spend on their loved ones and spending time with those loved ones. This was the first time he had anybody but himself during the holidays.

“Make sure to skip some of his sessions and do something fun. You’re a teenager. Enjoy it while you can.”
Alex couldn't help but chuckle at that. "I won't be for too long, I'll be 20 in a few months. I mean, technically I don't need to listen to what dad says...I just like sticking around."he said, shrugging and giving his adopted father a grin. The man's listing of his schedule earned an eye roll and Alex returned the stuck out tongue.
"So who is carving the turkey. We need to film it, I don’t think the thanksgiving commercials look this good."
With the ham and turkey set down, Alex grabbed the carving knives, "I got it." It was easy enough, though he had never created or studied turkeys or pigs for that matter, he had a good idea of where to cut and how deep before cutting into bone. "So, any plans for Christmas? Are you gonna join us?"he directed the question to Juli as he worked. He and Sam had already kind of discussed it, though it was a split decision between a classical Christmas or going camping. Middle of winter was not ideal for it, but Alex had spent time in the woods during winter and survived, and having people there would make it fun instead of exhausting. But a classical Christmas was tempting too, since neither of them had really had one before. Not with real family in any case. It would be nice...
Maybe they could mix the two ideas and find a cabin to have Christmas in. Or maybe just join Jiri's family for the holiday, his roommate had said the invitation was always open. There were a lot of options and he was excited to try them all. There was finally time for it now.
Feel free to take any of these of ideas and use them in your threads. So, ideas like the hate crimes being enacted on sanctuaries would probably work really well for Haven, for example.

Alex had been hoping she wouldn't recognize him, that he could just get his chips and that Leo could do all the flirting. But it didn't seem to matter where he went, people wouldn't let him forget and they wouldn't let up. At least the girl was nice about it, talking about Cold Steel being at the trial instead of talking about why there had been a trial in the first place. He was grateful for that at least.
He could see Leo out of the corner of his eye while she talked, nervous and basically gagging on his own tongue. Poor guy, he had to do something. "Oh. Sorry. I'm probably bothering you guys. Didn't mean to ambush. I'm Libby."
He smiled, a little awkwardly, "Nah, it's no big deal, Libby. Actually Leo is more of an expert on the X's than I am and I bet he'd love to talk to you about it. You're part of that Audubon X site, right Leo? The one with all the photography of mutants?" He gave Leo a pat on the shoulder before taking a step back, "Don't worry about the snacks, I'll handle it." Another step back before turning around to browse the snacks and leaving Leo to talk to the girl on his own.
He hadn't done something like that in years. Not the wing-man for a friend bit but rather the, distract the store clerk with someone else bit. He had been a child living in the backwoods of Idaho, stealing bags of chips from gas station clerks. Those were weird times. But those days were over, he was here to legitimately buy some snacks with money he got from his dad. Adopted dad, but still now a dad.

VĂctor Calisto Ochoa : I can see him in some B-roll shots since he obviously sticks out, but I don't think Leo would interview him since he had an AMA already. What do you think? Victor at the bank? Buying flowers? Walking down the street?
Bank and just walking would probably work, also, hanging out with his little cousins. So playing at the park, getting ice cream, being all gentle and patient. He's a big guy sure, but he's also a family man and his cousins mean the world to him.
Alex Maurell : The Brats visiting the internment site seems very fitting! Let's do this after our current thread comes to a wrap. Also, I will never say no to art. If you feel moved to draw, I'll link to it gladly.
Sounds good, the trip ought to be fun, might catch some conversation that Leo can put in the documentary. Also also, I can definitely imagine Alex doing a science monologue about mutants. The actual facts, like how mutation actually happens and the like.
Since I've been informed that MRO's political landscape is close enough to our real one that a man similar to Lord Dampnut is in office, I've been flooded with ideas on what the awful implications of that would be. So here we go, most of these are America focused but I suppose you could apply them elsewhere too:
Angst: -Bird Hunters, the opposite of the Bird Watchers or Audubon X, gain in popularity and even gain visible ground in the media, with several Hunters coming forward to be the face of that ideology.
-That ideology being that mutants are inherently dangerous and must be "separated" from the rest of humanity.
-"Alternative Facts" become a thing and the new government insists that mutant violence is on the rise, even though it's been trending downward for years. -Used as an excuse to profile and use excessive force against mutants by police departments across the country -Hate crimes on the rise; homes, places of worship, businesses, and sanctuaries that house or accept mutants are either trash, vandalized, or burned down. -Word leaks that there's discussion of the Camps returning setting off panic in the mutant community -Not confirmed but the Camps were never officially outlawed, just shut down -Bill being pushed through the house/congress would force teachers to out their students who are mutant on top of the one that would force them to out gay students -Non-visible mutants considered "spies" by the Bird Hunters -Gov uses honeypot site, similar to that of the Bird Watchers, to create a pool of mutant photos to catalogue faces, locations, powers, etc. -For example, uses similar algorithms to Facebook's facial recognition program "Deep Face" -The use for this data is currently unknown
Silver-lining: -Protests on the rise, mutants prove that they can peacefully protest along with their human allies -More mutants run for government positions, even if the cards are stacked against them -Mostly grassroots movements with a few actually getting into major political parties -More research is dedicated to the understanding of mutants, rather than the curing of their genetics -Slowly there's a consensus growing among the scientific community that mutants are more akin to metamorphosis, rather than it being a genetic disorder or evolution: "This is something that has always been in the genetic code for humans, we just didn't know what it was until we were able to compare both mutant and non-mutant DNA on a large scale." -Mutants coming forward to use their powers for good -Protecting others, protecting/revitalizing nature, healing others, charity work, etc -Pope comes forward as pro-mutant, "We are all children in the eyes of God, we are all born of the same creator." -Outrage over this is common among the anti-mutant people -Other religious leaders concur with this thought -Parent groups advocate for the safety and acceptance of mutant children
I'll add more later probably, but this is all I got for now. Use these ideas however you like, a base for your own plotting, headlines on an article or news show, having your characters participate, etc. Just link it here so I can read it.

"This was a bad idea wasn't it?"
Alex smiled, genuine this time, "There's only one way to find out." He felt a little excited for Leo, if his nervousness was anything to go by, he must really like this girl. Something about her photography skills and her well written posts. Apparently she was something of an artist, like a real artists, analytical skills included. That was good, Leo was a motor mouth but he was a smart motor mouth, he needed someone who could keep up, even challenge him.
The inside of the little bodega was one that Alex expected, not spotless and with a security camera, but with plenty of variety. And there she was, purple hair, that must be the girl Leo was talking about. He couldn't tell right away, but this could work out.
"Drinks and snacks, right? What's your poison?"
He tilted his head in thought, "Mmm, probably something sweet, bbq chips and Sprite? Dunno, I'll know it when I see it." He gave the girl at the counter a polite little wave and headed over to the snack aisle. He tried to keep things normal as could be, ignoring the fact that her gaze followed him and Leo from the store entrance to where the chips were. If she was on the bird watcher forum, then she probably knew who he was, even if it was only through a few pictures. He hadn't considered that, he hoped she wasn't uncomfortable, he just wanted to get his snacks and leave.
