The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Got a plot in mind?
MRO plots are player-created the Mods facilitate and organize the big ones, but we get the ideas from you. Do you have a plot in mind, and want to know whether it needs Mod approval? Check out our plot guidelines.
Hi guys! This is just a shortish announcement. First of all, the activity check for this month is UP! You can post in it here: Activity Check . We appreciate your participation in this, it has helped tremendously, especially while we're short staffed.
Speaking of short staffed, that brings me to the second announcement: Mr. Yuck and Cybershark are formally retiring from their modly duties. We wish them the best with their future endevours, and while they have been a great help as mods, sometimes RL drags people away. Dumb real life, right? Both plan on still hanging around and posting still as regular members, so you can still catch up and have fun with them that way. : )
Lastly, we are still processing and working through a few changes regarding MoTM, but there should be a new announcement about that soon! If you have any last input about that, feel free to let us know.
Now, back to your regularly scheduled role playing. - Steampunk Sparrow
So, in case you guys haven't noticed, MRO has been a little slim on mods lately. With life problems, general schedule conflicts, internet, etc, we are a little short staffed. While we've made every effort to keep things operating as normal, it's come to my attention a few things need to change, at least for the time being, to maintain the sanity of the staff that remains. One of these changes is an activity check, which will operate in a sort of role-call format for the time being.
How it will work... The current activity check with start today, June 24, 2014 and will go through July 1, 2014. If you are active, all you have to do is post with your name, and location of your last post. If you're a new or returning member, and you aren't on the Taken Mutations list currently also respond with a link to your characters profile so it can be updated.
If you miss a role call, we will take your stars off the Taken Mutation list at that time. But don't panic! As soon as you return or post you can contact a mod and get them right back. If you miss role call for three months, you'll be removed from the Taken Mutation list. Again, you can get back on the list as soon as you post again. [activity check: click here]
Other News So there have been a few other changes around the site. The second announcement I need to make is the formal retirement of Sarasvati. We have appreciated her contribution as a mod and wish her luck in her future endeavors! Taking her place is Sylar, with the new mod-title Modzilla. While I know Sylar's appointment to moddom was a little nontraditional, I hope you all welcome him to the role and we greatly appreciate the help he brings to the table!
A few last bullet points, as you guys may have noticed, Mutant of the Month has sort of slowed to the crawl. We value your opinion on this site, and we would like to know your thoughts on whether or not this tradition should continue. While we enjoy honoring role-players for their participation on our site, lack of nominations or single player nominations run the risk of this turning into a favoritism game, which we'd like to avoid. Current options are to put MotM on hold until site activity sparks a little, transition to a 'Thread of the Month' instead of player of the month, or continue MotM as is (starting again in July). If you have any thoughts or opinions, feel free to message/e-mail or chat with an active moderator to give your input. A poll will follow this announcement where you can also vote instead. [To vote, click here]
Thanks for your continued participation on this site and your patience with the transitions to come! Sincerely, The Mod Team
It's that time of the month! Who made you laugh? Who made you cry? Whose posts deserve fame (or temporary fame) and a cheesy banner at the top of our forums? It's time to nom people (In a positive way).
This thread will close on May 31st, so don't wait! Nominate someone today!
It's that time once again for Mutant of the Month Nominations! April was the month of fools (and fun pranks) but it was also a great time to role play! Who made you laugh? Cry? Stare with envy at their awesome literary abilities?
Show some love with a MOTM nom!
(This thread with be locked on the 7th, when the next poll begins! So don't wait!)
With new jobs and new RL responsibilities all around, this message probably comes as no surprise.
It's official: the Mod Team is looking to hire.
What we look for in new Mods
People who are here for the long haul. You may have been a member for the past five years, or you may have joined just a few months ago; but if you've become an integral member of our community, and if you're here to stay, you've got one of the most important qualifications already.
Ability to stay polite and professional at all times, and be a good role model to other players both IC and out. Regular players can slip up and be forgiven: a Mod who slips up can result in grumblings for months, and bad blood for longer. Once you take up a Mod hat, you can't ever be a regular player again until the day you put it back down. In the Cbox, the Tbox, plot threads, AIM—people will look at what you say and do as a Mod first, and a player second. You will represent the site in all things you do, so you need to try and do it right.
Free time. Specifically, free time that you can spend helping members with their character applications, and anything else that may crop up. Spending an hour a day Modding (or more) is not uncommon, especially during the summer rush. Usually things won't be too stressful, but when the ohcrap hits the fan, decisions need to be made quickly: hearing from all Mods helps keep those decisions fair, so we need Mods who get online regularly, and who can put in the time to get things done.
A reliable internet connection and the ability to load Gmail. Almost all Modwork starts in the Mod Mail; if you can't load Gmail on your regular computer, for whatever reason, then we can't actually use you. Ditto if your ability to get online is sporadic.
Mod Responsibilities
Mod mail duty. This includes handling new member applications, power growth requests, attribute profiles, and other miscellaneous e-mails that come through. You'll be trained in on this, never fear. The primary reason we need new Mods is to help handle new member applications.
Mod Board discussions, and decisions. We have discussions on everything, from player concerns to rule revisions to who gets to open the next brandy bottle. This part is both easy and hard: you've got to share your opinions, comments, questions, and concerns with the rest of the Team, and you have to work with the rest of the Team to reach consensus on the issue at hand. Once the final Mod Team decision is reached in private, you must be prepared to stand by it publicly. We're allowed to have our own opinions on the Mod Board. Everywhere else, we are the Mod Borg: public Mod infighting does not help the site, and is not allowed.
Confidentiality. New Mods are going to have access to pages and pages of past site dramas, and will get to take part in all the pages to come. They will learn more than they ever wanted to know about their fellow players, including what Zephyr had for breakfast (and lunch, and dinner). All Mod information must be kept confidential, both to protect the players involved and to shield the sites' innocents from the latest budding drama. The less people who know about what Player X is saying about Player Z's mother, the more everyone can just have fun and RP.
PM writing duty. When a decision is reached on the Mod Board, a PM usually follows. These can be happy PMs, or sad PMs. Whoever's got the free time and motivation usually does the honors.
Question answering. As a Mod, players will ask you questions; if you have a good grasp of site rules and policies, most of these are easy to answer. If you're ever in doubt, you can always ask another Mod, or post on the Mod Board.
General look out duties. Keep an eye on threads, the Cbox, etc for any iffy behavior, and correct it where you see it, or bring it to the Mod Board for discussion.
Miscellaneous. We reserve the right to sell your soul to unforeseen Mod duties, as needed.
Mod Perks
[/ul]
How this will work:
For the next seven days, we'll accept new Mod applications through PM.
Second Round: All Mod candidates will be announced via another Mass PM; we'll ask all members for their thoughts on this list, both good and bad, and allow another week for those opinions to trickle in.
Last Round: The current Mod Team will take all player advice back to the Mod Board, toss in our own views, and discuss the candidates. This part will take as long as it takes; probably a few days to a week. At the end, anywhere from zero to three new Mods will be selected. Likely one or two. When the decision is reached, the new Mods will be informed by private PM--once they've got their shiny new Mod accounts, we'll tout them out onto the Mass PM stage for all to see. Then shall begin the process of breaking their so-- Err, teaching them the ropes.
Yes.
No soul breaking. What so ever.[/ul]
How New Mods will be judged:
count against you--significantly--but other factors can outweigh it. In past call outs, we have consistently picked one older member and one green horn. It's not a policy, but there's a lot to be said for the fresh perspective and enthusiasm that new members can bring to the table. The worst that happens is that you put your name in our heads for next time, and we take a little extra care to unofficially groom you to the task in the mean time.[/ul]
To apply, copy the following mini-app into a new message, and send it back. Don't stress about your answers; this application is only one factor among many.
Character name(s):
What do you think the role of a Moderator is, on MRO?
Why do you want to be a Moderator?
If you had to recommend one member (other than yourself) that would make a good Moderator, who would that be? Why?
You have seven days to apply (last day for apps will be May 20th). Late applications will not be accepted for any reason, just as late votes on the Mod Board would not change a decision made in your absence, nor late replies to a new member's application convince them that MRO is a good place to RP.
Cheers,
The Mod Team Historian, Mister Yuck, Blue Badger, Steampunk Sparrow, Cyber Shark, Sarasvati and Mouse Hero.
Recently it has come to the Mod-Team's attention that c-box behavior is getting out of hand. This is a friendly reminder about what the c-box is for. The c-box is meant to be a safe place, where members can get to know one another, communicate about role playing and relax when they aren't posting. The c-box is NOT a place for discussions that attack or offend those involved. When topics get personal, heated, or cause discomfort to others in the c-box, the topic needs to change or be taken elsewhere. If you have a problem with another members actions or posts, it needs to be addressed with the Mod Team NOT taken into your own hands.
MRO is a Role Playing Game. A GAME where we can have fun, interact with each other, and enjoy the universe we all create together. It is not a place for hateful comments, assumptions, and accusations. Engaging in such conversation creates a poisonous atmosphere, and our community deserves better than that.
It's a new year, and we have plenty of posting talent on the boards to be enjoyed! Who stood out to you? Who made an impact? Nominate one of your favorite role players and show them some love!
It's been a slower month on MRO, but that doesn't mean that we haven't had some wonderful threads and writing happening. Show someone you appreciate what they've been doing them by nominating them for September's Mutant of the Month!
(This Nomination thread will close automatically at the end of the month, when the next poll goes up!)
