The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Great! Now Andrew had company while he walked around the grounds. That was just awesome. Exploration was fun and informative but better with someone around to talk to.
"Nowhere in particular. I just want to get a basic handle on where things are so I don't get lost if told to go somewhere on the grounds."
Verdy's next question was a little unexpected but made Andrew laugh when he thought about what actually had brought him here.
"A blonde empath named Kealey Quinn. That's what brought me here. Kealey and I met while shopping and my helping her out turned into her dragging me here."
It was rather funny in hindsight.
"It's fine. I'm kinda lucky. No tragic story that brought me here. Just being a college student and random chance."
He wouldn't mention the job offer from Sam that preceded Kealey's dragging him here. It wasn't official yet and it wouldn't do to go bragging about it when it hadn't yet happened.

The two trolls looked awesome together. Shin was pretty quiet during the bus ride but Kealey apparently couldn't resist telling her boyfriend what an awesome idea the costumes were. They were an awesome idea. Shin was cool like that for ideas apparently. The bus rumbled and groaned as it shuddered to a halt at it's stop, not that far from the park entrance. Andrew stood up, as well as several other people, and made his way to the exit. Shin and Kealey were likely following.
Once his feet hit concrete Andrew looked around and saw the crowds that indicated the entrance. That was the way they needed to go then. Once Shin and Kealey had gotten off of the bus he headed for crowds. The group costume was awesome. Shin and Kealey both had the weapons of choice of their Trolls. Andrew had managed to procure a reasonable facsimile of John's hammer. He toted it in one hand as they walked up the street to the party.
The spooky atmosphere practically oozed out of the gates. Andrew grinned. This was going to be so awesome. With Kealey and Shin, the adorable couple that they were, at his side the three entered the park.

His head dipped in a nod. Boredom was a perfectly reasonable excuse. It struck at the most inconvenient times and could be very difficult to dispel. Besides, she was right about it being too nice to stay indoors all day.
"Boredom is as good an excuse as any to get out and stretch your legs."
Andrew returned her smile. Having a simple chat like this was difficult for him, considering the lack of social grace he had. Generally it was easiest with Kealey but then her mutation being what it was took care of most of the problems.
"Yeah, never thought a place like this could exist honestly. I'm glad it does though. I'm becoming rather attached."
He chuckled and then had an idea.
"Well you're bored and I need to figure out what is where. Would you like to walk around together? We can watch out for each other to make sure no more tripping occurs that way."
Yeah, as long as they stayed well away from the topic of mutations, specifically what his was, Andrew figured this would go fine.

Andrew gave the older man a smile.
"Being a cop just isn't for me I'm afraid. I'll find other ways. Ways that don't involve me going to jail for being a vigilante."
Once again he smirked even though the thought of going to jail made him a little jittery. Jorge was being a real pal about this.
"Thanks Jorge." a moment's silence stretched on while Andrew made a decision and then dropped his voice to not be overheard, "I'm hoping to join up with the X-Men someday. I mean I'm nowhere near useful enough to do anything for them right now but I can learn."
That was really all it was, a hope. A silly dream but Jorge was an alright guy so he didn't mind sharing.
"Those friends I mentioned? One of them is the blonde from the scene with Mittens."
Andrew didn't mention Kealey's name mostly because he wasn't sure she wanted it known. It probably wouldn't have been a problem but Andrew had lived by better safe than sorry until he'd thrown that out the window about a month or two ago. Jorge reserved the right to hit Andrew back for that punch to the chin and Andrew gave a laugh.
"It can't have been that hard. You sure you aren't going soft, old man?"
Andrew didn't even need to smirk. All the sarcasm of that final phrase was carried on his voice.

"Exploring actually. I'm pretty new here and since I've got most of the inside of the place sorted I figured I'd tackle the grounds." Andrew laughed, "Wouldn't do to get lost the minute I went out the door."
Andrew looked over at the large house that dominated the grounds. It was a wonderful place and it had taken him a few days to get the hallways memorized well enough to prevent getting lost. Of course his explorations were brought on by boredom just as much as necessity.
"Well, that and I had nothing better to do."
A grin crawled over his face before he started looking around again. Then it occurred to him that he could ask the same question of her.
"What about you? Doing anything exciting on this fine day other than tripping?"
Tripping counted as exciting for the few brief moments of it's occurrence. After that it was dull, inconvenient, and embarrassing depending on the situation and company. This was getting easier so long as she provided the topics.

Kate would be able to fry the thing. That was good. Very good. Now they just had to get it outside. If Andrew remembered correctly there was a set of doors leading outside from the kitchen. Now if they could just figure out some way of maneuvering the critter out there. Andrew's line of thought was interrupted by the blonde attempting to get past him as though the dough blob wasn't there. So she'd thought he was lying? Some tiny part of Andrew was a little satisfied at the fear that prompted her to scramble backwards.
Her words however turned that pleasure right around. This was hardly his fault and if she'd stop shrieking and help out they could fix it. Stress combined with a petty annoyance colluded to rob Andrew of the normal filters he put on his conversation.
"Well sorry for the inconvenience Princess. Either help us get this thing moving or get out of the way."
Andrew would regret it later but right now it felt so good to say exactly what he was thinking. He really had no time for blonde girls that would rather shriek than do something constructive. Kate at least was going to be useful.
As Andrew was thinking these things Angua was going to town on the bread monster. That was good. Less of it to worry about. However it apparently didn't like it's arm, if that was the word for the blobby mass, getting gnawed on. Angua went flying back into the kitchen area that Andrew couldn't see. Moments later Andrew thought he heard someone shout in the kitchen and it sounded positive. Could there be someone in there? That would solve the issue of luring it out onto the grounds then! The creature turned, it's attention apparently diverted from Andrew and the hallway by Angua and whoever was within the kitchen.
"Hey! Is someone in there?"
As the pale mass of dough lurched forward Andrew managed to wedge himself between it and the doorframe to get a look at the interior of the kitchen. There was someone!
"Could you lure this guy outside? We've got a plan for getting rid of him but we can't do it inside."
Hopefully the kid would say yes. Once they got outside Kate could roast it and this would be over.

Andrew? In police academy? That idea was just odd to him. True, some of the things taught would probably come in handy. However Andrew just couldn't see himself as a policeman. Not only that but he didn't really think he had time for it. Between college and the job for Sam he didn't think he'd have much time left over. Not with the way he liked to study anyway.
"No offense Jorge but I had something else in mind. Though I guess some of the training might come in handy."
There was no reason Andrew couldn't be an X-Man right? Of course the moment he supplied that query to his brain it supplied a reason. His mutation. He'd never be as good in combat as other people were because his mutation gave him no benefits that could be turned to combat. That wouldn't be a problem if he was like Kealey and had a mutation that could be used for support. Her empathy had worked very well for crowd control at the Mitten's scene. However he didn't have that either. Andrew saw no reason why he'd ever be let into the X-Men.
Being a police officer was well within the realm of possibilities for him. Andrew felt he could probably manage whatever they threw at him to become a cop. Yet it didn't seem right. The occupation just didn't suit him. He'd settle for being marginally useful on the sidelines. If that led somewhere then that was good. If not then at least he would be doing what he could.

Jorge's question wasn't surprising. Andrew would have questioned him too had he been in Jorge's position. Andrew stared at his drink for a moment before answering.
"Nothing like that. You know those two X-Men who were at the scene during the whole Mittens thing?"
Andrew paused so Jorge could answer one way or another.
"I knew the blonde one before that whole thing went down. She dragged me to the Mansion after a chance meeting. When Mittens did what he did I didn't know about the X-Men."
He glanced outside to the people walking the street through the nearest window.
"She told me about them the day after that as well as...making me see some sense regarding a few things. I'm tired of not being able to do anything when stuff like Mittens happens. I'd like to help out in some way. Not to mention being able to send thugs packing when they take issue with my face would be great."
Andrew didn't tell him he was hoping to eventually join the X-Men. It could be inferred from his statements but he didn't outwardly say it. That was something he didn't want to admit. At least not yet. Not until he was stronger.

The impromptu toast made Andrew chuckle and he raised his drink to Jorge's with amusement on his face. A few moments later Jorge relayed his understanding and then told of what had happened after he woke up. Ugh, that couldn't have been pleasant. At least Andrew had been able to keep people way and avoid any major problems. He finished with a statement about living with your abilities and eventually finding out why you had them. Andrew gave a shrug.
"Eh, you muddle through day to day and then you die. At least that's how I viewed things for a while. My new acquaintances, or friends whatever you wanna call them, have been pretty good about changing my mind on that."
That statement got Andrew thinking about Kealey and how much his day to day life had changed after she dragged him to the mansion. It was something he was beginning to think he'd never be grateful enough for. Before Andrew realized it he'd finished his sandwich while thinking and talking with Jorge. Time flies when you're swapping depressing mutation related stories. Andrew concentrated on his drink after that for a moment or two.
What else was there to say? Tell Jorge the reason he'd decided to come and learn aside from not wanting to get beaten down yet again? That was something he hadn't even told Kealey yet and right now she was as close to a best friend as he had. After all, Kealey's encouragement had been what had spurred the decision. Upside to having an empath for a friend? You couldn't hide anything from them. Downside? You couldn't hide anything from them. Andrew chuckled at himself and waited to see what Jorge would say next.

Man, that story was way better than the tale of his mutation. In comparison Andrew's story was going to suck majorly. Of course Andrew had sympathy for what Jorge had endured but Andrew also knew how after a certain point you got really tired of pity. So he decided not to try and sympathize verbally and what have you.
"I'm afraid mine doesn't make for quite as good a story as yours. I was sixteen, only four years ago even though it seems like a lot longer than that. I'd just gotten my driver's license. Back then I had quite a few friends and they wanted me to take them out to celebrate my newly won ability to drive legally. Mom made me promise to be back by nine. I had no idea it would be a problem. Didn't notice the black mark or realize why I was so obsessed with the time while we were out.'
'My friends didn't really care about the curfew and wanted to stay out. Eventually I got them to agree to leave but I didn't have enough time to get back home by nine. We were on the highway when nine o'clock came. My head burst out in this searing pain. It was so bad I couldn't really see to control the vehicle. We swerved into the opposite lane. Luckily the pain subsided in the nick of time and we barely avoided hitting someone.'
'After that a few more incidents occurred but nothing quite as serious. Eventually I figured it out and stopped making promises. Stopped hanging out with my friends too to avoid having one of them wrangle a promise out of me. I dedicated myself to my studies and basically ignored everyone else. It's been that way ever since. Well until recently anyway."
And that was that. It was long-winded and no where near as interesting as Jorge's story but that was it. While Jorge absorbed what he'd said Andrew tucked back into his sandwich.

Hearing a voice Andrew turned his head to it's source for a brief moment to see who had arrived. As luck would have it, it was Kate. Her fire abilities would come in handy in dealing with this thing but doing so inside might have some serious issues. They'd have to lure it elsewhere. There was going to be such a mess.
"We've got a bread dough monster on our hands Kate. Mutation accident I think. In either case it's huge and none too friendly. If we lured the monstrosity outside do you think your flames could take care of it?"
Another girl, blonde this time, arrived shortly after Kate. She however didn't ask what was happening. She simply mumbled something that sounded like 'fork' and stood there. Andrew would be the first to admit that had he arrived on the scene instead of being there when it began he'd probably be just as dumbstruck. However since he was a little preoccupied with beating the thing back until he got an answer from Kate he didn't console her on the inability to reach the forks just now.
As if he hadn't had enough to deal with just then Gawain's dog Angua came bolting down the hallway with wild abandon. Had he done something to warrant the anger of the heavens? However it turned out that Angua's appearance was more a blessing than a curse because the dog lept up to stand beside him and then attacked the thing in the doorway. Well, furry help was better than none Andrew supposed. Hopefully the blonde would help out some too, once she got over the shock and dismay at being unable to procure a fork. At least, that's what Andrew assumed had her standing there doing nothing.

"It isn't easy. Never has been. But you get used to it. You learn not to use certain words. You learn to never make a promise lightly. Most of all you learn to always be careful because you never know when someone you trusted with your secret might betray you."
The words Andrew let slip were a window into the demons of his mind and he was glad he'd stopped talking when he had. The familiar nervousness was back with a vengeance. Though he did not turn his eyes darted about to all those he could see. Caution was best. Yet Jorge was here and Andrew remembered that in time to smile wanly and listen to Jorge's own tale.
Betrayal was what he spoke of. A friend turned foul. How fitting that Andrew had just spoken of that very thing. Andrew felt for Jorge but the man had obviously either gotten over it or learned to wall up the pain just like Andrew walled up his anger. So he busied himself with his own sandwich, a reuben, and didn't say a word for a minute or two. Then his earlier wondering came back to him.
"Do you mind if I ask how your ability came about?"
He was curious. If Jorge wanted to know about his own story afterward then he'd likely share it.

Throughout Jorge's reaction to his comment Andrew smirked a little and stayed silent. Once they'd gotten their food and drinks and had sat down Jorge asked after his scars. Andrew thought carefully about it. One of those scars was obtained in a way that would likely get him arrested if he told Jorge. However he could tell him the others and a modified version of the other. Jorge shared the tale of one of his scars. Probably to induce Andrew to share.
"Upper right arm was from experimenting with my mutation to see if it could do something more than cause me pain." he spoke in a quiet voice to avoid attracting attention, "Lower right arm was from breaking a promise to stay out of a certain section of the city. Some ruffians took exception to my being on their turf apparently."
Andrew paused to once again consider his tale of the third. It was difficult to tell without casting guilt on himself. He wanted to be honest with Jorge but he didn't really want to go to jail either. Just because Sam had arrested the guys that had coerced him into it didn't mean that he couldn't still go to jail if he told.
"The one on my shoulder...I made a bad promise. I have bad luck with running into unsavory characters. That time it was muggers. I didn't have any cash. They decided to have me get some for them. I accidentally promised it. I didn't go through with it and that's where that one comes from."
There, that would do. The essence of the tale remained the same but any guilt of his was conveniently absent.

It seemed like forever since Andrew had seen Sam. Andrew had been wandering around the Mansion for a little bit now and hadn't seen him. That he suspected was pretty common. More and more it was sounding like he was an incredibly busy person. However, considering his pending employment with Sam, it was good to know at least one place where he could reliably find him.
They made a brief stop at what was apparently Gawain's room to let out what appeared to be a rather large puppy. Gawain introduced the dog, a she apparantly, as Angua. It was cute in that over eager clumsy way that big dogs were. Kate seemed a little shocked by the dog for some reason but went right in to pet it. Andrew just smiled and looked at Angua.
"Hello Angua."
Andrew liked dogs, even if he'd never had one. Andrew petted the dog a couple of times and then stuffed his hands in his pockets. His mind drifted back to something a bit more pertinent than the dog. What was a Danger Room? The name didn't bode too well at least. Andrew decided to ask.
"Just out of curiosity, what is the Danger Room? This is the first I've heard of it."

Outwardly Andrew laughed at Jorge's remark about joining some UFL or another. However inwardly he was thinking that that probably wasn't too far off of the mark. Not that he thought he'd ever get to join the X-Men but just being around was probably danger by association. Plus he did want to help them out as best he could. If that meant he ended up on the team well then that was a good thing he supposed. However it probably was a lot less safe than a UFL match.
"Something like that." was his amused and slightly snarky reply.
Jorge led him down the street to a deli that he claimed was pretty good. An inquisitive glance from Andrew netted him an explanation behind the Miami U hoodie. So Jorge wasn't from New York? No surprise there. Andrew wasn't either and the evidence was all over the slight Kentucky drawl in his spoken words. While they waited in line for once Andrew didn't think of the people around him or their chances of guessing his status as a mutant. The workout had served to stop him from worrying too much. Jorge's question pierced Andrew's calm consideration of the menu and he turned to the elder man with a grin.
"Just tired. You've got a lot of energy for an old man."
He grinned unabashedly for a minute more and turned back to the menu to figure out just what sounded good.
