The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Neena stiffened a bit as Deja switched it to the news. But she didn't say anything; she was trying to keep her thoughts under wraps for the sake of the students.
Instead she said, "I really don't pay much attention to the new anymore. It's always the same doom and gloom." She added a chuckle for good measure.
"So, tell me Deja, if you don't mind me being nosy. How is your family handling you being 'gifted'?"
It may have been obvious she was trying to change the subject, maybe not. Either way, she was curious about Deja's family. Her own hadn't been thrilled.
Back in the kitchen, Neena was amazed to find the groceries still sitting on the counter, intact. Well, almost intact. A case of soda pop seemed to have vanished, along with two bags of potato chips, a bag of pretzels, and one of caramel popcorn. And a loaf of bread.
Neena rolled her eyes, and chuckled, then set about putting everything else away.
"Thats so much better. Hey, lets turn on the television, see whats on.''
By that time Neena had climbed up onto the counter and was sticking things in the cupboards. She pointed toward one of the doorways.
"Well, if you want to watch videos or DVDs, you'll need to use the center in the living room. Otherwise you can flip that one on," she pointed the other way to a small 16" screen set into the wall above the nook table. "Um, the remote is supposed to be right next to it, but it seems to have developed legs lately. At least, it ends up in the strangest places," she laughed.

"Ever since I was little," she said in answer to Keith's question. "Actually, I stumbled into a barn when I was eight, or so, to get out of the rain. That's where my guardians found me. They own a ranch in the Rocky Mountains, so that's where I grew up. We've turned it into a shelter-slash-rescue center over the last ten years or so. Um, actually, I get along better with animals than I do with people." She blushed a bit at that admission, and shrugged. "Animals don't talk back. Usually."
She cleared her throat, then asked Keith, "So where are you from?"

"Well, my name is actually Rayne," she answered Skoliro. "Rayne Belamount. My Tia Carol, one of my guardians, has called me Iris since I was little, because of my powers." She flushed a bit, and rubbed her shoulder self-consciously. "I figure I may as well use that nickname while I'm here, especially since now, Rayne Belamount isn't supposed to be in New York anymore."
She blinked a bit in surprise when Keith motioned for her to leave the room first. She hadn't expected to be invited while they played musical rooms. She'd always been a bit of a loner, out of self-preservation. Being included in a group, albiet a small one, was a change she was beginning to find enjoyable. A small smile found it's way onto her lips.
"Sure." She trashed the scraps of her TV meal, and set her mug in the sink, pausing again to envy both of them their wings. "Thank you, but I'll follow you, since I have no clue where either of your rooms are."

Iris jumped a bit as her cell phone rang, a bit louder than usual. She must have hit the volume button by accident when she clipped it to her belt. She recognized the Bumble Bee ring, which meant the Ranch was calling.
"Excuse me for a moment," she apologized to the guys, and turned to answer it. She hoped there was no emergency. "Hello?"
"Rayne! Why didn't you tell me?!"
Iris blinked, completely confused. She recognized her assistant's voice, but her words made no sense. "Pardon?"
"You should have told me what you were up to! You don't have to go sneaking around like this. You know I can keep a secret." For one split second, Iris felt her face pale and her heart drop. Sarah could NOT keep a secret, which is why Iris hadn't told her about being a mutant. If she'd found out....
Iris gulped, trying to think of what to say. "Um...well...I just thought I shouldn't...Well, that is, I-"
"You have got to bring me back a shrunked head! Mory will freak if I get him a real on for his collection. Oh! It has to be authentic, though. I'll even wire you the money, today!"
'Shrunken head'?? Iris's expression when from fear to complete confusion. "Sarah, what in the world are you talking about?"
"Duh! Your trip!" Iris could almost hear the woman roll her eyes. "Max just called and told us all about. I still don't see why you didn't tell us. It's not like its unusual or something. Well, actually, I guess you going out of the country is a bit unusual, since you never go anywhere. But then again, it is for the Ranch isn't it? So that's not so strange. But you have got to find time to take pictures and relax. Do you realize that you haven't had a vacation in over three years?!"
Sarah was talking so fast that Iris's head was spinning. But she tried to act like she understood. "Yeah, well, it was sort of a last minute thing." Boy, was that the truth.
"Yeah, Max told us. Oh, and don't worry about the quakers. Alex is already on the road, and should get there tomorrow morning. Oh! And he's expecting something exta special for the favor too. I'm thinking a nice evening alone when you get back? Yeah?" She giggled on the other end. Iris rolled her eyes. <"Fat chance,"> she thought to herself. Alex was the last person she wanted to be alone with.
She listened to Sarah rattle on for another few minutes, holding the phone away from her ear. She shrugged and smiled apologetically to Skoliro and Keith. "She likes to talk," she said to explain. Though she figured they already could tell. She decided to call her Tio later to dicipher exactly what Sarah was talking about. After finally promising to whatever Sarah requested, even though she couldn't understand half of it, she hung up the phone. She let out a sigh, and a chuckle.
"Well, it looks like I'm staying for at least a month. Or so I'm told. Hopefully I won't drive you all crazy in that time." If it was possible, Iris felt both relieved and worried at the same time. She had a feeling the next month was going to be......interesting......

"Now I'm jealous." Iris's shyness dimmed a bit as Kieth showed his own set of wings, and her smile widened just a bit more. Then Skoliro mentioned nocturnal animals, and her smile widened even more. "You mean like owls? I've rehabed a bunch of them at my Rescue Ranch back home. We even have one that's a permanent resident now, since she'll never be able to fly again." She paused, her shyness returning.
A slight burning sensation bit at her lower back, then faded. It was her liquid jewel regaining its power again, after her short use in the Danger Room. Reflexively she scratched at the spot. She wished it didn't always feel like an insect bite when her jewels activated and deactivated. Suddenly becoming nervous again, she scratched at her shoulder, where the ice jewel was embedded.

Iris took a sip of her tea. "I arrived last night. No one mentioned sharing to me either. But then again, I'm not officially a resident here. Though I'm trying to change that." She smiled and shrugged.
Several of the younger students trooped in to raid the refigerator. She took the opportunity to pull a pair of stools up to the counter Skoliro was perched on. She offered one to Keith, and perched atop the other.
"I wonder if the mansion is always this busy," she remarked aloud as the kids left. They'd seemed completely unfazed by the fact that, only a short time ago, a violent intruder had invaded their home. "I wonder what he or she looked like," she wondered out loud, speaking of the intruder.

"Hello," Iris replied as another entered the kitchen. She remembered his face from the Danger Room, but hadn't actually met him. Her eyes widened slightly, and she blinked, thinking she was seeing things. But he was indeed glowing. She blinked again. Suddenly she flushed slightly as she realized she was staring.
"Um...sorry." She cleared her throat slightly, and attempted a smile. "I'm Iris. Nice to meet you. This is Skoliro." She shrugged slightly. "Sorry, I'm new here. I'm still not used to seeing people use their powers in public." She paused again, wondering what that glow meant?

Iris's widened slight for just a brief moment. She could imagine what that other quarter was. She had the urge to scratch her neck, but firmly squellched it. She didn't Know many people yet, and she didn't want to allientate the ones she did konw by a thoughtless gesture. Instead she smiled, and slightly changed the subject.
"That sounds really neat. So does flying. I bet it would be awesome to fly." She started to eat, then paused. Not wanting to be rude, she asked, "Are you hungry? I think I have some oranges in my car." She kept her cooler well-stocked when she was on a road-trip. Of course, this was quickly turning out to be the wildest stopover she'd ever had.

Iris hid a smile behind her mug. Either Skoliro was very secretive, or a real joker. Being rather shy herself, she decided not to pry. Instead she asked about his powers.
"I hope you don't mind my asking, but just how much are you like a bat?" He actually reminded her of a vampire, but she wasn't about to say so out loud. Although....she'd already alluded to it in the Danger Room, hadn't she?

"To the mansion or to the kitchen?"
Iris raised one eyebrow. That sounded like an evasion. Well, she guessed that would be natural. No doubt most mutants were used to hiding what they were. She was, after all.
"Actually, I meant the mansion, but I hope I'm not being too nosy. I haven't really learned the rules around here yet. And I haven't met too many people yet, either." She tilted her head slightly. "That's a pretty impressive set of wings." She added the comment to give him a way to avoid her first question, if he wanted to.

"That's right.
Iris nodded. It was strange hearing others besides her Tia call her that. But it was probably safest to use that name instead anyway while she was here. So Iris it was.
"So how did you manage to find your way here, Skoliro?" She leaned against the countertop as she ate. As she watched him, her curiosity kicked in. She began to wonder just how much like a bat he really was, and which kind of bat.

(OOC: No prob Sko. I added it later, so my bad. )
Rayne gasped and jumped as she felt the tap on her shoulder. She sighed and chuckled when she recognized the mutant she'd met in the Danger Room. Usually she could sense when others came near, but this was the second time he'd taken her by surprise.
"Hello again. Skoliro, right?"

Rayne opened the freezer and pulled out the microwave meal that she'd abandoned when the intruder alert sounded. She popped it into the microwave, then began heating water for tea, since the mug she'd made in the Danger Room had....well....been a bit too messy to drink. Sort of.
She glanced out the window as she waited for things to heat. The snow was comforting to see, reminding her of home. She wondered if she could figure out a way to stay at the mansion for a while, without letting her staff know what she was doing. None of them knew she was a mutant; she did her best to keep it hidden, for their sakes as well as hers. There was a very active anti-mutant movement in the city at the base of the mountain. From what her guardians had told her, there had been a major incident at a genetics lab involving mutants, not long before they'd found her hiding in their stable.
Rayne clicked her tongue in thought. If she wanted to stay, she'd have to think of some way to make her absence look like a normal occurance. Considering she never took vactions from work, it was going to be a real trick to do.
The microwave beeped at the same time as the teapot shrilled, effectively distracting her attention.
