The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Finally satisfied that her daughter was bundled up enough, and that she had everything they could possibly need in her tote bag, Iris made her way to Sara's classroom. Her fellow teacher already waited for her, so she smiled and waved.
"Sara! Sorry I'm late!"
Compared to the English instructor's streamlined appearance, the two Srisai women looked like a pair of matching snowmen; heavy, parka-type snow coats with puffy hoods, and heavy boots. A pair of yellow gloves hung off of the sleeves of Starling's coat, and she tugged at the yellow scarf all but obscuring her scowling face.
"Momma, I'm too hot!"
"Oh, sorry, Sweetpea. Here." Iris unwound the scarf, and the little girl immediately pulled off her hood.
"Sorry Sara. Bathroom break and all that," Iris apologized again. Her hair had begun to turn a funny yellow-orangish color, in tune with the little one's irritation. "I think we're finally ready now. Garrett's probably waiting for us in the Zen garden already."
Iris moved to walk beside Sara, keeping Starling on the other side, so the little girl wouldn't accidentally step on the woman's illusion-hidden tail. She caught a glimpse of papers in the Sara's bag, and chuckled.
"Paper to grade?" she inquired. "I miss being able to multitask like that. Do you ever sleep anymore?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once outside, Iris began looking around for her old friend. She'd forgotten that he now had hair, and nearly passed him and his friend by before spotting them.
"So you think I'm stupid? That's very childish of you."
Iris practically felt the hair on the back of her neck bristle.
"I'm only trying to help our kind to rise above the humans and their closed minds. You know as well as I do that they would drive us to exctinction as they've done to so many other creatures of this world. I just have the will and determination to fight back and show them that we're not so easily pushed over and stepped on."
She snorted to herself, putting extreme effort into not rolling her eyes.
"I'm happy to know we agree on one thing though. The humans were stupid to put the Registration Act into affect."
It rankled deeply to admit the trueness of that statement, not to mention that they agreed on something. So rather then dwell on it, she went back to Syn's first remark.
"Closed minds? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. You can talk a good game, Syn. And I don't know what trick you use to convince others of it, too. But bottom line?" Iris pushed away from the wall, and spared a narrow-eyed glare at the woman.
"You're no better than the fools who started Registration."
Heart pounding, she turned to walk away. It was probably a stupid move, but she turned down a darker alley, in an effort to get away from the crowds on the street, hopefully before the girl could pull whatever mind-game she'd used on Iris before.
Iris stood at the water’s edge, hands in her pockets, the dull violet of her eyes and hair an outward indication that her liquid gem was active. Yet, she let the rain cascade around her unhindered, let it soak into her clothes and skin. Her mind floated among a myriad of thoughts, not really focusing on any of them. She simply stood, enjoying the feel of the chilly wetness against her skin.
Events of the past few days had pushed her toward the proverbial ‘fork in the road’. Her past life no longer held her in its chaotic grasp. It could once more, if she chose to let it. Or she could start over. Not completely, of course. Her Tia and Tio, Hunter to a certain extent, her friends at the Mansion, Virote.... There were too important people in her life right now to simply discard and start completely over.
But she’d allowed the events of the past year to mold her into a very negative person. It was time to move on. Time to recreate her existence, and decide what to do with it. She’d seen both sides, really. During Registration, she’d seen how some humans took their hatred of mutants to extreme lengths. Before that, she saw the opposite, mutants unleashing their wrath on the rest of the world. The worst part about it? She could sympathize with both sides as well.
But which side to pick?
With her liquid gem active, the rain around her magnified her senses quite a bit. She heard footsteps squishing closer from behind, but she didn’t move. Several minutes later she heard the soft click! of a weapon being either drawn or cocked; whether a gun or switchblade, she couldn’t be sure.
”Ugly night to be out on your own, lady.”
She turned, unconcerned, to look over her shoulder, staring out from underneath violet hair pasted to her face by the rain.
(OOC: Lyrics are from 'Come Clean' by Hillary Duff.)
Let's go back Back to the beginning Back to when the earth, the sun, the stars all aligned
[/b][/i][/u]
New York City, known as ‘The City That Never Sleeps’. People could be found everywhere, at any time of the day or night. Some crowds were less savory than others, but were crowds nonetheless. Weather is no barrier either. Rain, thunder, snow, wind, stifling heat.... none of it mattered to the inhabitants of the Sleepless City. Even in Central Park at night, people could be found straggling between the trees; couples out for a romantic midnight stroll, homeless figures huddled together for warmth, the random gang out to do property damage, or the shadow-clothed villain out to cause physical harm or even death.
‘Cause perfect didn't feel so perfect Trying to fit a square into a circle Was no life
[/b][/i][/u]
And then, every once in a while, came the solitary figure out for no other reason then to be alone with their thoughts.
I defy
[/b][/i][/u]
Once such lonely figure, a woman, stood at the edge of one of the ponds.
Let the rain fall down And wake my dreams Let it wash away My sanity
[/b][/i][/u]
This particular night belonged to the rain, and it decided that the city needed a decent cleansing. With the air being too warm to allow it to form hail or snow, it pelted the earth in an steady downpour instead. But the solitary figure didn’t seem to notice the torrent. She stood at the water’s edge, and let a steady stream travel down her rain-darkened hair and soaked clothing, falling in its own downpour to the ground around her feet.
'Cause I wanna feel the thunder I wanna scream Let the rain fall down I'm coming clean, I'm coming clean
[/b][/i][/u]
Dull violet eyes stared out from underneath drooped eyelid, watching each, single raindrop, clear as crystal, splatter into tiny, wet shards in her outstretched hand, then merge once more into the mass of rainfall, washing away minute impurities of the flesh.
I'm shedding Shedding every color Trying to find a pigment of truth Beneath my skin
[/b][/i][/u]
If only rinsing away the cares of life could be so simple. Just to stand out in the rain, and let it all wash away.... And yet, that’s what it felt like to Iris. The past year of life had dealt her so many blows, so much pain. Her perfect world had been turned inside out, upside down and shaken to pieces. The most recent, and hardest, blow came from a person she’d been friends with since childhood, a person she thought she could tell anything. A person she’d discovered had been leading a secret life, just as Iris had been, but darker.
'Cause different Doesn't feel so different And going out is better Then always staying in Feel the wind
[/b][/i][/u]
Finding out that her close friend, and co-worker on the Ranch, belonged to the Church of Humanity during Registration had been difficult to deal with. It had taken courage Iris didn’t think she possessed to confront her friend, even more to do so in person. But she’d found the resources somewhere.
Let the rain fall down And wake my dreams Let it wash away My sanity
[/b][/i][/u]
It wasn’t even her friend’s rejection that hurt the most; Iris had really been expecting that. And it wasn’t the words. There were no words to cause pain.
'Cause I wanna feel the thunder I wanna scream Let the rain fall down I'm coming clean, I'm coming clean
[/b][/i][/u]
It was the look. Disgust. Loathing. As if she’d touched something vulgar. Or had been wallowing in filthy and vile. It was a look of betrayal, and bitterness. Not just simple animosity. Hatred. Rancor. Death.
Let the rain fall
[/b][/i][/u]
It shattered Iris’s world like a glass bubble.
Let the rain fall
[/b][/i][/u]
Sometimes blessings could be found in the strangest of places.
I'm coming clean
[/b][/i][/u]
Her mind and heart still felt numb from the pain. No doubt it would hurt worse in the days ahead. But the weight was gone. The pressure of trying to be two different people, of trying to hide who she really was, of trying to make sense of her fractured mind.... Gone. Her facade of contentment lay in pieces around her feet. But it exposed the infection that had been her self-loathing as well. She’d hated being a mutant, because those around her hated mutants. It had taken the destruction of her glass palace to make her realize that it wasn’t even her world to begin with. Someone else had built the glass around her, and she had let them. But now all of that was gone. Washed away in the cascading rain. Cleansed by her namesake.
Let the rain fall down And wake my dreams Let it wash away My sanity 'Cause I wanna feel the thunder I wanna scream Let the rain fall down I'm coming clean, I'm coming clean
[/b][/i][/u]
Finally. She felt.... clean. A bit lost, but.... clean.
Let the rain fall down And wake my dreams Let it wash away My sanity 'Cause I wanna feel the thunder I wanna scream Let the rain fall down I'm coming clean, I'm coming clean
[/b][/i][/u]
Now came time to rebuild. This time, she’d build her own world.
A buzzer went off overhead, followed almost immediately by a simultaneous, multi-voiced, "Awww!" and one, "Not yet!" Iris grinned at the group of nine youths, all aged seven and eight.
" 'Aww'? What's this 'awe' stuff? Kids are supposed to hate school, aren't you?" she teased.
"But the butterflies are going to hatch before we get back!" a young girl protested. Another nodded vehemently. "We won't get to 'lease them if they do!"
"Of course you will," Iris knelt down between the two girls and hugged them, her white hair beginning to turn greyish. "You'll be back in three days. I don't think they'll hatch before that, but even if they do, we need to study them for a day before we let them out, right?"
It took a bit more persuading before the second graders reluctantly moved on their next class, something the Natural Science teacher found herself having to do more and more with the younger grades. It was a pleasant side effect of nature-interactive classes.
Her cellphone beeped at her, reminding her of another appointment that, if she didn't get moving real quick, she'd be late to. She reached for her tote-bag-style purse with one hand, and two heavy winter coats with the other, then dashed out the door and down the hall.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Roughly ten minutes later she stuck her head inside another classroom, looking around for a familiar face.
"Momma, do I have to wear this coat? It's still warm outside."
"I know, Sweetpea, but we'll be going somewhere very cold, as soon as we find Sara."
"But why couldn't I go with Daddy? He probably flewed his place."
Not being allowed to fly with her father, and not having any of her pets along with her, had put Starling in a somewhat petulant mood. Iris thought she had a way to appease her, once they reached their destination. But getting there might be tricky.....

"So...."
Iris clenched her teeth a bit harder. The woman wasn't going away. Great.
".....what do you think of the humans after they imprisoned so many mutants? I know they captured many of your friends. I'm also sure bad things happened."
"I think the people responsible for Registration were as stupid and prejudiced as you are."
Oops.... that wasn't supposed to be said aloud....
Iris swallowed, and took a deep breath. She opened her eyes, but kept them firmly on the people walking by, rather than on Syn.

It seems I have some major problems with my computer, which picked up some malware program, or something. And the power cord to my loaner is giving me fits as well, so I can't charge the laptop. Plus on top of that I've caught a flu, and am not in the best of moods right now. In nutshell, I'm probably not going to be around much for the next few days. I'll try and get a few posts in from other comps, but no guarantees. My apologies to those of you waiting on me for posts and PM. Hopefully it will only be a couple of days. *sighs*

"I'm sorry to hear you haven't been doing well."
"How thoughtful," Iris mutteed under her breath.
"How was your visit with your friends at the mansion? I'm sure they were delighted to see you."
"As a matter of fact, they were," she replied a tad smugly. Syn hadn't been specific, and the last time she'd visited the Mansion, Iris's friends had been glad to see her.
She didn't say anything else, not wanting to give the woman any form of ammunition to work with. She hoped.

"It was worth a shot," Iris grumbled under her breath. She kept her eyes closed.
Find someplace safe and free of worry. <"Any where but here would work,"> she thought to herself.
"How have you been my dear. To be honest I didn't think I was going to see you again."
"I've been better. And yeah, I'm disappointed, too." Sarcasm aside, Iris's heart currently resided in her throat. She attempted to imagine somewhere remote, away from people, and away from the woman standing next to her. How about a deserted island? Or Antarctica. Better yet, Syn in Antarctica. With her feet frozen in the ice, and a hungry polar bear approaching.

(OOC: Obviously a work in progress. lol)
Story Threads:[/u]
Front Gates – Iris stops by the Mansion during a business trip, and is greeted by Tricity, who offers to let her use the Danger Room to test her unstable mutation. She also decides to stay overnight.
Newcomer Training – Iris spends a bit of time training in the Danger Room. Afterward she meets Raphael and Deathstar, and joins them in a combined team training. She isn’t used to pushing her mutations, and finds the exercise exhausting.
Evacuation – After her training session, Iris evacuates with the rest of the residents to the Danger Room, after an intruder is spotted in the Mansion.
Midnight Training – Iris, Nika, Kesuk and Gore play a tag-team scenario in the Danger Room, boys vs. girls.
A Night in the Infirmary – While Nika recovers a bit, Iris meets Daria, and attempts to prevent a fight between Daria, Nika and Deathstar.
Lost Without Direction - Iris inadvertently drops in on Sentinal in Central Park. The two talk for a bit, but their conversation is interrupted by by a rather large red man, and a smaller one with silver hair and red eyes. Needless to say, things don't end well.
Iris's Kidnpping - While Abyss goes after Sentinal, Kaz takes on Iris. Literally scared out of her wits, her Ice mutation activates on its own. She makes a valiant effort to save herself, but in the end all she accomplishes is destroying part of the park before passing out.
King Pharmecuticals - Iris wakes up to find that herself and her friends have become little more than lab rats. Much happens during their captivity, including an initial Haywire exposure.
Iris’s Return Home – Iris is dropped off at the Mansion’s gates, with a dose of Haywire running through her. The result? Extreme Home Makeover, Demolition Phase.
Iris’s Return Home, Drawing to a Close – As the Haywire effect begins to wear off, Iris’s friends manage to break through her insanity. Once she is unconscious, Haywire wears off completely.
Iris’s Return Home, Aftermath – Iris awakes, sees the damage she’s caused to home and friends, and retreats to her room.
Now What? – Upon waking the day after her Haywire episode, Iris has no clue that she’s been kidnapped during the night. She meets Hunter, who claims to be a counselor appointed by Tricity to help her train her abilities, while at the same time keeping her isolated. After several days, she awakes to find a sixth gem has appeared, and has a nervous breakdown. The next morning, she decides to test it. The result is nothing less than chaotic; she discovers that she’s no longer in the Mansion, but a copy created by Hunter, the gem was implanted by him and is even more unstable than the other five, and she literally busts out.
Barrelling Down Memory Lane – After the clear gem literally forces Iris into a nervous breakdown, resulting in the destruction of the Mondragon Labs garage, Hunter confronts her once more, claiming to be her father. Naturally she thinks he’s crazy, but he removes the mental block placed in her mind when she was five, allowing the memories to flood in. She retreats, obviously confused and hurt.
Stalked – Iris barely escapes an encounter with a Stalker robot, but not unscathed. Of course, it could have been worse, if her new, and totally unstable, gem hadn’t activated.
Spying on Registration – Iris watches the Registration of her friends from the shadows, trying to figure out a way to help them. Hunter intercepts her, asking her to help him go undercover and take down one of the major supporters of the Registration Act, the Church of Humanity.
At Humanity’s Steps – Iris decides to check out the Church herself, before returning home. Once there she’s surprised by Hunter, yet again, and finally agrees to help him, since it will help her friends.
Dawn Wanderings – Iris wanders the halls and Canteen of Mondragon Labs, while waiting for Hunter to set up their undercover mission. Along the way she meets Voltaire, Calley, and has an unexpected run in with Syn.
A Little Chitchat - After escaping an uneasy situation in the Canteen, she spends some time playing Twenty Questions with Calley, who turns out to be a very….. unique character.
Infiltrator’s Exit – Hunter introduces Katrina and Iris, and sets out the details of their undercover mission, after a bit of creative tweaking by Katrina.
On the Road – Just a little father/daughter chitchat on the way to a new apartment.
Infiltrator’s Apartment – As do most conversations between Iris and Hunter, this one ended with Iris storming off to her room. Unlike most ‘storming off’s, Iris returned in a considerably calmer frame of mind. She also gets to know Katrina a little bit over breakfast.
Infiltrator’s Apartment, Seven Week Jump – Seven weeks into Registration, and after a successful infiltration of the CoH, Iris and Hunter train with her abilities a bit. She uncovers a hidden talent in her onyx gem that allows her to become an shadowy blob. They also have an argument on how to proceed with the mission.
Secrets in the Mob – Iris and Hunter are summonded to a CoH ‘Purity Ceremony’, otherwise known as a mob raid on a group of mutants. Iris discovers Hunter’s vulnerability to wood, and lets him know that she’s finished. She won’t help him destroy the CoH council, or be a part of anymore bloodshed.
End Game – After Hunter goes to destroy the CoH council, Iris has an attack of guilt, and goes to attempt to stop him. She meets (sort of) Sebastian in the process.
Rebuilding Memories – Just before Registration ends, Iris returns to the ruins of the Mansion, and attempts to clean up the area. She is joined by Mettaliar, Naveed, and Redemption.
The Last Stand – While the Camp Breakout happens, Iris returns to the Labs, with the intention of helping refugees recover. Instead she finds herself running into Calley and Katrina, who are running away from a vampire that isn’t Hunter. He does look familiar though…
Time to Rebuild – Iris returns to the Mansion during the Rebuilding efforts, but hangs back because of guilt for not helping her friends. Nika is forgiving, and the two assure each other that they are still friends.
Swimming Lessons – Iris and Raina spend a few minutes commiserating about their random mutations, and are joined by Dream and Naveed.
A Chat with Iris – Raina wants to be human, and talks with Iris about a certain Doctor Che, who claims to be able to cure mutation.
Meet & Greet with Doctor Che - Iris goes with Raina to meet this Doctor Che, and the pair take the tour of the facility. Everything seems to be in order....
Zoobally Zoo - Iris visits the Zoo and meets a very, very strange girl named Petunia Gardener. Honestly, how can you not be creeped out by someone who likes bugs that much??
Maybe I Shoulda Stayed Home Today – Iris, Flloyd, Naveed and Raina return to the Mansion and Infirmary, after Raina’s surgery ends badly.
YOU??? - Iris bumps into Kaz, causing her a mild heart attack. While Kaz still doesn't completely understand Iris's mindset, he does finally get a glimpse of why she reacts the way she does. And, wonder of wonders, he actually apologizes for his part in her kidnapping. At this rate, the two might actually end up friends!
Southstreet Seaport - Iris agrees to go on a date with Virote, aka Redemption. Starting with dinner, she feels unbelieveably awkward and uneasy, since he's already stated his intentions to get to know her better. She feels she has too much baggage to develop any kind of relationship. However, the longer she's around him the more she finds she likes him as a person and friend, and enjoys his company. As long as the whole 'date' idea doesn't come up.....
Pupils of Life - Iris meets Garrett, who helps her learn how to meditate. Hopefully such lessons will help her get her randomized emotions under control once more.
Pressure Points – Iris meets the Assistant Headmistress, Neena, an eccentric woman who doesn’t understand the pressures and guilt Iris has accumaliated over the past year.
Ripples and Aftershocks - Iris meets up with Garrett after he's recovered from being exposed to Haywire. The two commiserate a bit, then began planning a little bit of meaningful revenge.
Guest Room - Iris – Miscellaneous posts in Iris’s temporary room at the Mansion.
New York Botanical Gardens - Miscellaneous posts in which Iris meets some interesting characters while attempting to relax, including Rupert Kelley and Redemption.

Iris very rarely went out at night, simply because she'd grown used to rising, and likewise retiring, early. But thanks to several people, she'd started exploring outside of her 'comfort zone'. She decided to include Times Square at night in those explorations. She still had that 'tourist' mentality, and no doubt it showed with her neck tilted back to take in the sights.
She wore a long-sleeved shirt and jeans against the fall chill, which she found comforting, and leaned against the nearest building to watch the flashing lights above. Eventually she turned her attention from the lights to the people walking by, another passtime she enjoyed.
Until she saw a familiar face making its way through the crown. Iris immediately felt her blood chill when she saw Syn smiling. By that time, there was no way she could avoid being seen, even with the crowd.
She felt her back begin to burn in response the unwanted adrenaline dumped into her nervous system. Immediately she closed her eyes and tried to summon Garrett's meditation lessons to mind.
A rather childish though also floated randomly though her mind.
<"Maybe she won't notice me if I keep my eyes closed.....">

" No reason to apologize, Iris. That must be some incredible technomancer friend you have. I would love to even have a trinket of his. A mere child's toy even, to this person, would no doubt be the stuff of the future."
Iris agreed. Scary part about that? He was only fourteen. What would he be like in the future??
"Nevertheless, I found Crystal to be interesting, informative and rather spunky for a ..well, device. I can see that you two have known each other for some time and are as close as you could possibly be. Now, with the information I have, what to do next? Are you sure you don't want to get involved somehow? Could be alot of fun."
She thought about that for a moment, her gaze once more returning to the lake. A pair of swans swam by, leaving their own path of ripples in their wake. One event affecting another. One motion influencing others. Butterfly Effect, Dominoe Effect, Cause and Effect, whatever you wanted to call it. It all boiled down to one basic idea; whatever you do has consequences, and consequences touch everyone, somehow.
Now if only you could find a way to see those consequences in advance.
"I don't know about fun, but.... Maybe a little bit of proactive therapy would be beneficial." She held out one hand. "I'm in."

" So, Crystal, is there anything you would like to know? I've definitely gotten my answers."
Crystal paused, as if considering the offer. When she spoke up, it wasn't with a question.
"I have no inquiries yet. I will later. But I do have a request, if you'd indulge my curiosity. Anything you find out, uncover, disclose, whatever you plan on doing with it, I'd like to know. Preferably before the rest of the public. Call it a hobby."
She made the request as if the information could be put into a ball and handed over. And her desire to know firsthand had no malicious intent for any particular 'side', though it might be hard to tell through her attitude. She simply desired to know.
"By the way, thanks." She smirked and she motioned at Iris. "Those meditation lessons of yours have done wonders for her anger issues. Any chance you could teach them to her father, too? Those two have a few issues to work thro-"
"Crystal! Deactivate program!"
Crystal frowned at Iris and huffed. "On second thought," she remarked to Garrett, "better work with her a bit longer first. Honestly, I do not understand mutants and humans."
Shaking her head, she held up both hands and snapped her fingers, then disappeared in an overly dramatic flurry of sparks.
"The feeling's mutual," Iris grumbled. She sighed, then turned to Garrett.
"Sorry. The person who created her for me is a technomancer with a twisted sense of humor. She's a good friend, and reliable. If you can stand her long enough."

" we've seen alot, I suppose it makes sense that we'd try to be over protecteive. So, I think the alarm is going to be going off soon. we, better wake up."
"Do I have to?" She yawned. However, with the food and coffee's help, her body was beginning to remember that it had been waking up the dawn since she was little.
"Mmmm." She lifted her mug to drain it, before snuggling into Virote's arms. She tilted her head and smiled up at him. "Thanks, Love. Be in in minute."
