The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Tori asked if it was safe to approach, to which Ion nodded. Once the electricity was no longer arcing off his body it was safe to be around him. The worst someone might get from him when his corona was up was floating hair.
”Yeah. It’s safe.” Ion approached the sand and stuck his hand in, digging around for a second before pulling out a fulgurite. Fossilized lightning. A piece of glass made from the sand as it was superheated by the lightning. The glass followed the shape that the lightning had taken though the sand. Ion looked at it a moment before handing it to Tori. ”With the sand in the air I can control the shape better. It isn’t being grounded out immediately by the Earth.”
Excellent! Tory was picking up what Ion was putting down. So she followed Ion to the volleyball court and lifted a nice chunk of sand for Ion. Ion, who had spent the last few minutes letting his power run, was ready to unleash it.
”Okay… Once you see the arcs, don’t get too close. I can only control this a little.” Ion said then after a moment the corona shifted to full electrical breakdown. Arcs of electricity flowed off Ion like a Tesla coil. They hit the ground, arced up and around to connect to other arcs. They went everywhere. He stood on the far side of the sand to keep Tori as far as possible as he got his hand a few inches away from the sand.
”Might want to close your eyes.” Ion said before he channeled his power into a single bolt of energy with his maximum amount of current. High enough to cut steel and upwards of 100 million volts. The short distance kept the sound down as there wasn’t as much of a vacuum created by the single bolt of electricity traveling like a mini lightning bolt. ”Okay. Now there should be something cool inside the sand.”
The arcing electricity faded and the corona returned over the next few seconds as Ion held his hand over the ground and drained himself of charge.
It was always fun when someone brought a new player to the poker game. Lenna had brought the fresh meat that night and the kid had been fleeced. Martin had done okay. Lenna and Ion had played okay at best, Lenna more so than Ion. Martin had thought he was on a roll and then right before Ion flipped the script on the poor kid, Lenna dropped him like a sack of last months potatoes.
The kid went from top dog to sent to a farm upstate in one hand. It was fantastic to see. Would have been better if Ion had done it himself, but game recognize game. Now with one less player, Ion was dealing.
”...Then I put about a million volts into it and bam! Like magic, door opened.” Ion was saying as he dealt out cards. ”I heard the danger room access panel got rebuilt after that. Trick still works here though. Who would have guessed there was hidden storage in the middle of the hedge maze.”
Ion looked at his hand, keeping his face a perfect poker face. He had read up on himself. Turns out poker and hustling pool had been how he covered the bills in law school. He wasn’t good enough yet to clean up at any bar in the city, but he wasn’t bad. More practice as he made his way through his undergrad and he would be a force to be reckoned with.
”Alright, Lenna. You're under the gun.” Ion said to Lenna. She was up first to bet. Ion smiled. Yes, starting these games had been a great decision.
Tori had a point. Flying around NYC would turn a lot of heads and while mutants shouldn’t have to hide their powers, it made a lot of sense to keep some cards close to your chest. Hold a few surprises back for when you need them.
”Ah, well that makes sense. Lots of people love to hate what they do not understand. And many will not even try.” Ion said, his power continuing the fire away.
Ion wasn’t building up much charge so the corona was all that was there, but he could feel his power opening up. The power allowing more current to be pushed out. So when Tori asked for requests for what was next, Ion grinned. He had an idea.
”I have an idea. Follow me.” Ion waved and turned to jog toward the hedge maze. ”There’s a volleyball court this way. With a sand court.” Ion was bearing his teeth in excitement thinking about his plan. ”Sand is just little granules of glass. Heat them up and they melt together. Hit them with lightning and you create fulgurites. Fossilized lightning— Oh, it's this way. I bet, if you shape the sand in the air I can create custom glass sculptures.”
While Tori was producing her phone to do the math, Ion quickly did it in his head. ~150+136=300-14. So together they were about 286 pounds. He didn’t feel like being a showoff so he let Tori quickly work it out. Having grown up in the days of ‘you won’t always have a calculator in your pocket’ had left an impact. At least on quick math like addition and subtraction.
”Holding on.” Ion said when he was ready. Well, as ready as he would ever be for flying on a plot of dirt.
Then they were off. The initial feeling of Ion’s stomach dropping had him feeling like he had boarded a roller coaster. The excitement of flying through the air had Ion’s power turning on. To onlookers they were like a purple glowing mass atop flying earth. ”This is amazing!” Ion shouted.
When they finally landed, Ion stepped off onto the dirt and found his sea legs again. He then looked to Tori, his power still surrounding him in a corona of St. Elmo’s fire. ”That was fantastic. How do you not do that every day? Just… Everywhere!” Ion said wishing he could fly. Sure his power was cool, allowing him to burn through metal, but flying was just a level of freedom he wished he could have. ”I would if I could. Forget having an electric car… I would take to the skies to get everywhere.”
Ion rubbed his hands together, exploring a power always tickled that sense of discovery that felt so rare in modern times. Bonus that it might mean flying! ”Epic!” Ion said, then when directed by Tori, he stepped onto the ground with her. At any other mansion in any other city it would probably just look like two teens randomly standing in the dirt. Maybe about to get themselves a little dirty. At that particular mansion—Nothing would be surprising, even if the round opened up and they were on the back of a jet or swallowed into the ground.
”About one-fifty or so… Haven’t weighed myself in a while.” It was oddly dissonant, standing on dirt and expecting to fly. ”So… Just stand here? Grab the ground, you?” Ion asked, looking from the ground to Tori.
A single metric ton. A tonne. 1000 kilograms. Ion’s eyes widened. That sounded like a lot to Ion, he had a rough understanding of metric and could make a guess at how much that was. It wasn’t his preferred unit for weight but he could envision it.
”Oh. That’s a pretty sizable amount of dirt.” Ion said as he watched Tori lift the top layer off and move it. He was excited to see what she did once she had a clean working surface.
Tori did not disappoint. She had jumped onto the grassless plot of dirt and lifted it with her on it. She used it as her own personal flying platform.
”That has to be the coolest thing I’ve seen all month!” Ion called up to Tori as she flew up above the school. Ion was genuinely impressed by the control Tori had. Ion had nowhere near that level of control. He could only direct his power over an incredibly short distance.
When Tori landed Ion asked the only logical question, ”Can you fly other people?”
Tori led them outside. Ionw was excited by the prospect of seeing an earth bender at work. It was a power that was new to him. Another way that mutants were superior. Tori found a spot she was happy with and went to work. She raised her hands and focused. Ion waited silently, watching. It took a few minutes, but in the end Tori had a sculpture of Lara Croft. It took Ion a moment to realize who it was. He was used to the older design. More triangular in the chest region.
”That’s super cool though. I can’t wait to see what you can do when you work on larger things.” Reshaping the Earth just had a primalness to it. Literally reshaping nature and moving mountains. ”I wish I had that level of control. My power is big and flashy. When I do small things it is glassing or burning.”
Ion thought for a moment then said, ”I have an idea. Can you move… Like, a square of ground, maybe six inches deep and set it on the concrete? That would give you a chunk of ground to work over and do whatever with. Then when your done just stick it all back. No harm done to the ground. Not like it’s a golf course where the grass has to be perfect.”
Two decades of his life? Ion made a so-so gesture with his hand. While he had lost close to two decades, from his perspective its like he didn’t have them in the first place. All he had to show for them was a law degree that he lacked the knowledge to make use of and a lawyers bank account… And a car payment on a luxury electric car.
”More like… I got another shot at youth. I don’t have memories of the time when I was older. From my perspective I just got pushed into the future.”
Tori said they’d have to go outside to see her power. Ion gestured toward the outside and said, ”I got nothing better to be doing. If you’re fine letting someone else take the Xbox for a spin.” Ion said knowing that there would always be someone ready to jump in and keep the system from getting lonely. ”And I can show you what I can really do out there too. The professors frown on me burning though the walls.”
”Oh… Well, I’m only 18, but I was born in the 80s. From my perspective it was the mid 2000s then suddenly it was the 2020s. Somehow I got turned back to my youth, as I was. No memories of my twenties or thirties.” It was still weird for Ion to think about. There being a paper trail for his life leading up to when he was 33 but he didn’t experience it. Had no knowledge of it.
As for Tori she was an earth bender. At first Ion didn’t get the reference, but then it clicked. Avatar, Ion had heard of the show and sequel show. A movie that was in a superposition of existing but not. Ion had not watched it, it came out after his time in the 2000s. ”Oh, so you move around ground?” Ion had never met someone who could move around earth, but he had seen people control water and air so it only made sense. ”I’d actually like to see that.” There were so many fantastic powers that people had at the mansion. Ion loved seeing what people could do. How powerful mutants were compared to regular humans.
The TV going off broke up the watch party. The girl who had been playing on the Xbox sulked and her onlookers wandered off. Maybe to go watch someone play games on the internet. Having found himself over a decade into the future after his old self had been de-aged, Ion didn’t understand the whole ‘watching people play’ thing that had become popular. Hell, to him the Xbox 360 was still the peak of gaming technology.
After getting the TV back on, the girl sulked a little before turning her attention to Ion. She told him not to worry about it.
”In my day, autosaving happened at the worst possible time. Always right before an unskippable cutscene.” Ion said, sounding to himself like some middle aged person.
The girl got up and held her hand out as she introduced herself. Ion looked at the hand for a moment before he shook it. A moment before he’d had a corona and now she wanted to make contact. Points to Tori.
”I’m Will.” Ion said, taking Tori’s hand and shaking it. ”Yeah. Something like that.” Ion took the hand he’d used to shake Tori’s hand and as his power sprung to life a corona formed around him, but electrical breakdown arced across the fingers on the hand. ”I generate it and can direct it from myself. Guess I’m not insulated though so I leak.” Ion waved at the corona around himself. ”If you're new here you must have something fun you can do. What is it?”
Spring meant one thing. Allergies. Trees were ready to get it on and everyone else was punished for it. Normally this meant you sneezed a lot or had to blow your nose and you were done with it for five minutes. For mutants, sometimes you inadvertently used your power. Not always the worst.
Unless you generated electricity and were watching a new resident of the mansion play video games. Especially bad if you were standing by the TV because you had been wandering the halls while reading as Ion had.
”ACHOO!” Ion sneezed into his shoulder as a sudden burst of purplish pink corona formed around him. A small jolt of electricity popped off and caught a ride on a PCB inside the TV shorting the circuit to turn the tv off. Blessedly it was low enough current that it didn’t burn it out, just enough to trick it into activating.
”Oh… Uh. Yeah, sorry about that.” Ion said looking at the TV that had just clicked off. His corona slowly dimming as his body leaked away the rest of the power he had built up in the instant of his sneeze.
Character Name: William Maxwell "Ion" Faraday Play-by: Logan Shroyer Type of Graphic: Sig, Cover, whatever. You da best. Desired Text: Nothing in particular comes to mind Additional Details: He's a zappy boy! His power has the aesthetic of st. Elmo's fire and electrical discharge depending on where he's powered up to.
The brunette gave the go-ahead and William nodded. Immediately there was a small jump in brightness as he began to push out electricity at his current maximum. William moved to the hedge and arced the electricity through a branch. There was not much of an effect. He assumed it would take more power wattage than he was putting out to do what he wanted.
As time passed, and William ran current from one hand to the other, the visible plasma channel of the electricity arcing grew ever wider. While the electricity maintained its color and brightness, the ever growing width of the arc made more and more light. After two minutes from when he started discharging, William arced the current through the hedge. Where it passed through the plant it flashed and burned. William moved the current around in a constant, unhurried speed. The current was sufficient to cut through thin sheets of steel and he was using it to burn through glorified bushes.
”Here we are. One new doorway.” William said as he pushed the person sized section of hedge out of the way. ”Hurry behind me. I doubt the manip will be pleased by my cheating.” And with that he walked through the hole in the hedge to the next section over.
