The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Gawain was on his way to have some girl talk with his adopted werewolf... er, sister. Or would it be boy talk? It was a Gawain day, and they were going to talk about a boy. But still. Guy don't do stuff like this... Whatever.
Hopping to mirror to mirror, he made his way to the old dance studio that was Emmy's usual home, whenever she was not at the Mansion. He felt kind of bad that he had not seen her a lot lately; especially with this new guy on the scene that made him overly protective. He knew Emerald could take care of herself any day in a fight... but emotional issues were different. A lot different. And just the thought of Emmy getting emotionally hurt made Gawain's blood boil. He was keeping an eye on that guy. Both eyes.
Still, they needed to talk; he needed to find out what Emmy had been up to lately, and how she was dealing with her new relationship, and maybe see if she wanted to take his head off for getting her true love bitten by a vampire. Uhm.
"Ems?" he called out, knocking on the glass of one of the studio mirrors "It's me, Gawain. Mind if I come in?..."
Emerald's old place was quite nice for an old run down dance studio. She had bought out the place years ago, bringing back old, good memories for the wolf girl. In the time that she had it, Emerald had managed to get some walls up so it looked a little more like a house and a little less like just one big room. She had a bedroom walled off now as well as a small guest room just in case they couldn't fit in the massive living room she had.
In a way, it was cozy, a nice small place on the outskirts of the city, far enough away from people that one could only hear the distant roar of the traffic, even with super hearing. Emerald was laying on her massive couch, in a semi-sound sleep. Akshay was at home recovering from a particular incident he had at the mansion and Emerald decided to stay in the city for a while so she would have an easier as well as faster way to get to him if he needed anything. He did in sit that she left though, because his wounds were not nearly that severe, but he still worried her and she knew she would find herself sneaking back to his place soon enough.
I swear when I get my hands on Mirror, I'm gonna hang him/her by their damn toes. Emerald thought angrily when she blinked into being awake. The thought of her boyfriend hurting worse than he implied weighed heavily on her. With a quick leap up, Emerald found herself reaching for her leather jacket, relacing her shoes up to go for a ride up to his place.
That is before a familiar voice from one of the studio mirrors that she had put a blanket over long ago. The werewolf growled and walked over to it only to savagely tear the blanket from it.
"You can come in, but there is no guarantee what I'm gonna do to you when you do," Emerald growled to her friend, who she was quite mad at now. "Just what the hell did you think you were doing putting Akshay in the danger room?"
The cover was pulled off the mirror, and Gawain blinked in the light, stepping out of the surface quickly before she decided to punch the glass. Always a gentleman.
>>"You can come in, but there is no guarantee what I'm gonna do to you when you do. Just what the hell did you think you were doing putting Akshay in the danger room?"
"Um... showing him around?" he suggested sheepishly "He was really excited about the whole thing. Wanted to see how it works and all that."
Yeah, sicing a gang of vampires on the guy, no big deal. They were not even real, right?..
It was a good thing her old buddy stepped out when he did because if he didn't she would have slammed her fists into the mirror and crashed it, mostly likely on impulse. Yeah, she was mad, she was angry and most importantly she wanted to kick someone to the curb for nearly killing her boyfriend in the danger room. Well, he didn't nearly kill him, but he did get him wounded bad enough to make it noticeable.
"You could have just shown him something peaceful, I know you know how to work that damn thing ever since you became a full-fledged X-man, you didn't have to put him in a dangerous simulation, he showed you his powers, he isn't trained for combat," Emerald exclaimed, exasperated with trying to explain the obvious reason why what her friend did was wrong.
Akshay was not a fighter, or at least not in Emerald's eyes. He was more of someone that used their words (no pun intended) for fighting not his fists. So when she saw her boyfriend’s wounds, while they weren't nearly as bad as some of the things she had received they were still enough to make her angry and frustrated at this whole thing. Judging by what Akshay told her, even if he spoke with Mirror in the highest regard (then again he did this with almost everyone except for that Newman guy so Emerald couldn’t really judge by that) so her friend obviously impressed him.
“Also, yeah he told me, he tells me everything because he’s my boyfriend, and I care about him a lot,” Emerald paused for a moment, wondering if she should throw anything at Gawain but decided against it. Instead, she snarled at him lowly, she was angry to say the least, her pack mate was threatened, a potential mate was threatened and she wasn’t going to let Mirrors absence from the packlife change a dang thing. She was still the Alpha and by god she was going to act like it. ”Your actions could have gotten him hurt far worse. What the hell was in your brain the other day rocks?!
>>"You could have just shown him something peaceful, I know you know how to work that damn thing ever since you became a full-fledged X-man, you didn't have to put him in a dangerous simulation, he showed you his powers, he isn't trained for combat,"
"He thought it was awesome." he muttered. It sounded like a lame excuse, but how was he supposed to explain a raginf werewolf that her... significant male was impossible to impress by a roomful of digitally induced vampires?! All he wanted to do was wipe that stupid grin off his face, and obviously a bite was not enough to do that.
>>“Also, yeah he told me, he tells me everything because he’s my boyfriend, and I care about him a lot. Your actions could have gotten him hurt far worse. What the hell was in your brain the other day rocks?!"
Uh-oh, there it was. She did care about that guy. Whatever did she... never mind.
"I was in control!" he protested, keeping a wary eye on the growling wolf "I froze the program the moment it got dangerous. I warned him he could get hurt, he didn't even mind! That's not okay, if you ask me, by the way, that's just weird. But. He was totally okay with the whole thing! And I did take him to Doc right after. I wasn't gonna seriously hurt him! Just... a little bit."
And a bit more.
"I knew he was your boyfriend! Just wanted to know what the guy's like under pressure."
"Of course he thought it was awesome, he's a comic book nerd that really likes things that are different than every day life, the danger room is like candy for him," Emerald growled, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
The Alpha Female knew her boyfriend all to well, of course he would think the danger room was awesome. It was like a comic book nerds wet dream to see a place like that. Why else would have he requested to go in there? He was also a comic book artist so god only knew what sort of inspiration he would find lurking about in a place filled with mutants and the gadgets that trained them.
After all, the danger room helped in Emerald's own education on how to fight better, but only a little. All the situations in the room began to get too bland for her after a while. Back when she was at the mansion more she would log 20 or more hours in the danger room a week. Now she preferred real life training as opposed to fighting machines.
With a roll of her eyes, Emerald let out a more irritated growl. "What the hell was the point of you doing it though, taking it so hard on him? All because he's my boyfriend doesn't mean he should be able to handle a legion of vampires coming after him!"
>>"Of course he thought it was awesome, he's a comic book nerd that really likes things that are different than every day life, the danger room is like candy for him,"
Nerds. Gawain was secretly glad he was a dork. And an X-man. A superhero named after an Arthurian knight, that was not nerdy at all, right?...
>>"What the hell was the point of you doing it though, taking it so hard on him? All because he's my boyfriend doesn't mean he should be able to handle a legion of vampires coming after him!"
"Do it doesn't, I wasn't expectin' him to handle them" Gawain snorted "I just wanted to see what he does in danger. It's a big brother thing okay?! Someone needs to threaten the boyfriend, and since Ruby's not gonna do it and Sapphire might actually kill him, I figured might as well do it. I can't just let any random nerd guy all over you without checking them out first!"
Emerald rubbed her temple a little, trying to figure out what sort of logic Gawain had for doing this whole thing. While she understood that he was trying to be the protective big brother, all he had to do was to grab the boy by the shirt and threaten him! That's what she did with Ruby's admirers and that made things a lot easier. It wasn't like she was actively hurting them physically or putting them into harm’s way she was just scaring them a bit, that’s sort of what she did. If they ever did hurt her sister, then she would actually hurt them
"Yeah, if you had just threatened the guy I would have been fine with it, but you deliberately put him in harm’s way to make a point, That wasn't right Mirror." Emerald explained, not falling for this good guy act for a minute. She knew what Mirror was trying to do, but the way that it was gone about was not the proper way to do things at all. Not that Emerald was good about doing things the proper way but she knew better than to take things far too far. Even with her wolven instincts and her tendency to act on it because it was the most logical thing to do in her head, her wolven side knew a thing or two about respecting other peoples private affairs.
The redhead’s blue eyes softened a little, trying her best to not act too rashly in this situation. The prideful Alpha did want Gawain to know what he did was wrong and wasn’t planning on being too soft with her words, but she wouldn’t be too harsh ethier.
“I understand you were trying to test him and be a big brother, but you could have done it a better way. “ Emerald told him.
>>"Yeah, if you had just threatened the guy I would have been fine with it, but you deliberately put him in harm’s way to make a point, That wasn't right Mirror. I understand you were trying to test him and be a big brother, but you could have done it a better way. “
Gawain sratched the back of his head and blushed. A bit. Emmy had a point, and now he had to take one for the team and admit that.
"All right, maybe I got a bit carried away..." he muttered sheepishly "That guy is impossible to phase, okay?! He didn't even blink for a moment when he got attacked by vampires! It's annyoing!"
All right, so that was not stricktly speaking an apology.
"He didn't blink when he saw me shadowboxing in the part either, and I probably scared half of central park," Emerald chuckled a little, knowing her boyfriend was not easy to scare off. He was dating her anyways.
Extracting a sorry from Mirror was very similar to pulling teeth, but somehow she managed it. Her adopted family member had always been protective over her whens he couldn't protect herself and for a while he did a damn good job of it. They were thick as thieves for the longest time, but somehow the two drifted apart, whether it was the fact that Mirror joined the X-Men and started going on missons or the fact that Emerald started distancing herself from others out of fear of lashing out, the two did drift away from one another.
The wolf girl softened up a little, now that it was semi settled she figured she would stop giving Gawain the death growl. So she straightened up, standing now like a normal person as opposed to some sort of feral beast
"That's better, now what did you come here to talk about," Emerald asked, running her hand through her hair. "Is it how me and him are dating or something?"
There was the Gawain Emerald was looking for the big brother hug came and the werewolf welcome it with open arms. She enveloped Gawain in a traditional Emerald Lupin bear hug, not back breaking, but a firm, warm hug. The wolf girl missed him a lot and she couldn't stand the thought of this little rag tag group she was reforming to break up again. Gawain was part of her pack, both sides of him and weather he liked it or not she wouldn't let him forget that fact.
"I missed you too,I can't let you forget you are one of my best friends can I?" the wolf girl asked with a coy, happy grin. She broke the hug after some time and meandered over to her couch, flopping down upon the soft, comfortable leather. "So What's it like to be in the new group of the stick in the mud men?"
>>"I missed you too,I can't let you forget you are one of my best friends can I? So What's it like to be in the new group of the stick in the mud men?"
"A lot of fun, actually" he grinned, sitting down next to her and stretching; his muscles finally relaxed after the tension of waiting to be punched. "I've been training the new kids. learned how to program stuff in the Danger Room, it gets quite freaky if ya do it right. Some of the trainees actually show promise."
Most of them did, actually, but when you are the one responsible for training them, you can't just admit that like that.
"Ami has been trying out too. She needs some work though before she's ready... and I gotta figure out a way to put her on another team."
In a way Emerald was a little Envious of Mirror, the other mutant was fulfilling the dream she had for herself at a time. Back when she felt the X-men were at the peek of their game,s he wanted so badly to be a team leader and to train others in the art of combat. She knew that others would benefit from the knowledge that was often forced upon her and if she could teach them a thing or two, it would prevent them from making any dumb mistakes like she did.
It was not to be however, Emerald's animal instincts were too much for the newer members of the X-men and her debates about morality were far darker colored than the seemingly pure color of theirs.
"Glad you're happy on the team, it's suits you a little more than it used to," Emerald told her friend, her brow still furrowed a little in deep though. The wolf girl didn't know what would have changed if she had been more involved with the X-men or if she had just submitted if things would have changed. Alpha's never submitted to those they didn't deem worthy and Cold Steel was far from it. At least in her eyes. "Ami's the new girlfriend I assume."
>>"Glad you're happy on the team, it's suits you a little more than it used to... Ami's the new girlfriend I assume."
"Oh. Yeah. I'll need to introduce you two." Gawain nodded. This just went to prove how long he had been out of the loop with Emmy. He felt bad about that, once again.
What she said about the X-men was true. For a street rat who joined the school just to go out with the girl he liked, Gawain stuck around surprisingly well, and much longer than other street rats. He was half deced, team leader and all. He had Sam to blame for that, mostly.
"Turns out she is a mutant. Manifested powers out of the blue while we were fighting zombies. Imgaine that... and now she wants to be on the X-team. Talked to Shinbo about it too. Because all I need to straining my girlfriend to fight better. Girl punches hard..." he chuckled, glancing at Emmy. He was surrounded by women who packed stronger punches than him on a Gawain day...
