Continued from The Silent Killer (still in progress)(The damage was taken from Sanctuay Under Siege) It was officially night now. All the lights in the City that Never Sleeps had been lit, but they were dimmed by the constant pouring of rain. The earlier drizzle had transformed into a raging thunderstorm. It blanketed the city in sheets of rain causing the streets to become rivers. Soon, flash flooding caused the sidewalks to be overrun as well. The sound of splashing could barely be heard over the howling winds and pounding rain as Garth invisibly stumbled across the street. His expensive suit was soaked with rain and stained red from blood. Most of it was his, some of it was not. The shadow mutant grimaced as he pressed against the bullet wound in his side, trying to ease the flow of red liquid that was running through his invisible fingers. His other hand was on his black umbrella that he leaned against like a cane as crawled through the streets trying to get a bearing on where he was at. Grim was on the run, from a silent assassin and soon the police who would surely want to ask him about the dead body of his former boss. He only knew of one place that would offer him refuge. Sanctuary. However, everything always looks so different in the dark and even more so when shrouded in curtains of rain. But Garth knew he had to be close. Either that, he would shortly be facing the fact that he might die tonight. The shadow mutant tried to replay how this could have happened. He was so close to his goal of making it big. But everything had come crashing down tonight. Now, he was facing death. The shadow mutant shook his head. He couldn't think about what had happened, what he could or couldn't have done to stop this happening. Right now, he was fighting to live. He had to focus on that. He had to find Sanctuary. And as if the building itself had been waiting for him to dismiss his doubts, the looming golden doors of the Sanctuary flickered at the edge of his vision. He had found it. Garth 'jumped' several times, closing the distance of several blocks within seconds. The golden doors loomed over him ad he approached. However, something was off. One of the doors was not attached at the hinges. It shagged under it's massive weight, leaning against the wall. Garth feared it might be abandoned. However, he could see light shining from beneath it. Garth pounded against the undamaged door before pushing it open, finding that it swung open with the same ease as it had always done. As he stepped in the the shadow mutant was greeted with an eerie similiar screen to the first time he had arrived as the Sanctuary. The marble floors were cracked in several places. Lisa's old desk was split in two and piled along with other debris across one wall of the hall. Even the back hall appeared in have had a large wrecking ball smash through it. The pain seemed to dull slightly as a shiver slid up Garth's spine. Had the Sanctuary been destroyed? Was there anyone left? Who had done this? But most importantly, where was he going to go if this was all that was left of the Sanctuary? "Hello? Is anyone here?" Garth yelled out across the empty foyer, afraid of what the answer might be.
