The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Jorge
>> "Only stupid if it gets you shot."
Jorge smirked. It was a true commentary. The only things that are stupid are the things that get out shot, especially in his line of work. But Jorge had not voiced this opinion. Instead he turned back to his target. But before he could start again, he noticed, out of the corner of his eye, the man holstering his weapon and leave his stand. For a moment the detective wondered if that was it but he had a feeling that the man was coming over to introduce him.
The detective slipped his own gun into its holster, removed the earmuffs and spied the man walking over to his stand. He was about his same height, short hair and looked like he had been in a battle or two himself. It was obvious the man knew how to fire a gun and he definitely seemed like the type of person who could handle himself in a fight.
Jorge nodded to him as he approached.
>> "Military. 75th Ranger regiment, then moved to C.A.G. fer a little while…I'm Michael."
He took the offered hand and shook it firmly.
“Nice to meet you, Michael,” he said. “Jorge, NYPD, Mutant Related Crimes division.” He nodded back towards the target range with an impressed grin. “Quite the resume. You definitely learned something from them.”
Mutant Related Crimes division, MRC, Michael had heard some about them. They seemed the most equipped of any unit the local law enforcement had to deal with crimes with mutants involved. To Michael though that didn't mean much, he didn't feel any law enforcing body could adequately seek justice. Police kept everyone in line with the law, a cheap substitute for justice, and they did it with so many shackles it was a miracle they could catch anyone.

Jorge never really saw himself as anything of a crack shot. To be honest his training was simply was all he took but he had to admit that he did take a natural affinity to it when it came time to learn. The man always hit his target and exactly where he wanted to. Maybe it was his sense of not wanting to harm innocents, or maybe it simply was that it was a natural talent of his; whatever the case, Jorge was a good shot.
“Police academy down in Miami,” he said with a slight shrug. “Guess I just have an affinity for it and some good teachers.”
It was odd that he did have a knack for shooting. It was not like he had any experience with it before he joined the academy; his father was no good with guns and his mother didn’t allow anything like that in the house but Jorge took to it like a fish to water. Maybe he was just born with a good eye and a steady hand.
“What’re you doing these days?” Jorge asked in the manner of interest. “Still in the military?”
The first thing mentioned was official training. It was likely Jorge did not grow up shooting, which may explain why he is so good. Generally the worst people to teach are men because they have grown up either shooting without formal training or only fired a few rounds, again without training. This leads to bad habits that cause bad accuracy. Whereas women, on average, don't have any trigger time and don't develop bad habits as a result. Jorge may have had no trigger time growing up with which to form bad habits which he was unwilling to loose at his academy like most officers.
"Some of the children who run the military got into a pissin' contest. A few, including myself, got discharges. Honorable of course." The Ranger being intentionally vague. Sure the officer was a member of MRC but he still didn't want to just announce he was a mutant, which was the reason he was discharged. Some of the brass decided they didn't like mutants in their most elite units because they were men who'd been promoted well beyond their usefulness. "Since then I moved up here. Did some contract work, straightened out some crazy yanks." He raised a hand to quell any attempt to interrupt. "Nothin' illegal. A raised voice can work wonders." As well as a clenched fist, liberally applied.

>> "Some of the children who run the military got into a pissin' contest. A few, including myself, got discharges. Honorable of course….”
Jorge nodded as he listened to the man. It was always interesting to learn the life of another, to hear them tell their story of how they got to place that they are in. Jorge had always been interested in that, seeing has he only had the experience of one tiny fraction of the world: his own. But listening to others, learning their stories, was always such an interesting experience. Maybe it was because he was a cop (and half the time one had to listen to stories to be a cop) but he had a knack for listening to others.
>> “Since then I moved up here. Did some contract work, straightened out some crazy yanks."
Immediately Jorge had arched a brow at that last comment. Contract work? That could mean anything and a variety of which could be illegal. The man would have had to have been pretty stupid to admit something like that to a police officer but one never knew. Jorge was about to speak up to ask about that but he was silenced by a wave of the other man’s hand.
>> "Nothin' illegal. A raised voice can work wonders."
He nodded. At least that was a comfort.
“Nothing wrong with finding work where we can,” he said. “You ever consider police work?” he asked with a tilt of his head. “We could always use a steady hand like yours.”
Had he ever considered police work? At one time he had, but never too seriously. Police had too many constraints on them. "I've thought about it. Not sure it's the right fit fer me. Blue idn't really my color and private military, defense contracting, pays better." Defense contracting was close enough to the truth and sounded more legitimate.
The Ranger shrugged, "I'm also use t' a higher level of autonomy an' a policy of shoot them all let God sort them out."

>> "I've thought about it. Not sure it's the right fit fer me. Blue idn't really my color and private military, defense contracting, pays better.”
Jorge nodded in an understanding manner. He had to admit that police work really was not right for everyone. The cheap pay, the possibility of cuts, etc., all of it made the job a difficult and especially if one were going into it hoping for more. But the detective, despite the downfalls, did love his job. It wsas not for everyone but far be it from him to actually deny anyone their opinion. If Michael here didn’t think it was a fit, so be it.
“Sometimes you just gotta go where the better pay is,” the detective nodded. After all, people still had to be able to make a living.
>> "I'm also use t' a higher level of autonomy an' a policy of shoot them all let God sort them out."
Jorge smirked. That was a definitely a far cry from his own mentality, but to each their own. The detective would have always rather shot as a last resort. But for some people it was a matter doing what needed to be done at any cost. He respected the man for that, even if it did make him sound a little unnerving.
His expression remained cordial though.
“Different perspectives,” Jorge nodded in an almost salutatory manner. “Keeps the world spinning ‘round.”
Different perspectives certainly kept the world spinning, but also kept it shooting. A sad, and inevitable, result of different opinions which necessitates people to have the Rangers perspective. That said he didn't necessarily like the idea of it being needed only understood it was.
"Speakin' different perspectives," He gestured to Jorge's Glock. "Why a Glock?"
The Ranger was in no way a fan of Glock handguns. They are the absolute best for what they cost, but they don't run that high anyway. They have a laundry list of feature which which range from mild disapproval to utter and complete disappointment with the design. Such things as safeties, those belong on rifles and shotguns not pistols which are used for split second decision making and reaction. Other faults from his perspective including the way in which they are disassembled, the trigger must be pulled, and firing reloaded ammo has caused enough Glocks to explode to earn them the nickname 'Glocknade'. The Ranger was a fan of the Sig P226, the handgun he regularly carried which NYPD officers could carry in but DAO with 9mm ammunition.

Jorge
Jorge liked this guy. He was too the point, he had an interesting story, but that did not mean he trusted him off the bat. Not that there was any reasoning to be suspicious of him or anything like that. The man was pretty forthright with his opinions and thoughts, but that was certainly not anything to knock him down about. No, there was something else that made the detective want to keep him in his line of sight, just in case.
Whatever it was, Jorge just had this feeling that there was something deeper about this man. He didn’t get the sense that he was lying to him, but he did think that there was definitely more under the surface than what Michael had shown him thus far. Maybe it was something important, maybe he was dangerous (well he obviously was), or maybe the man just liked being an enigmatic mystery. Whatever the case, though Jorge enjoyed his company, he would make sure to keep his ears and eyes open around him.
>> "Speakin' different perspectives…Why a Glock?"
Jorge glanced at his firearm. He smirked a little but responded in a most nonchalant way.
“Just always what I’ve been most comfortable with,” he responded. “I’ve tried others but glock has yet to let me down.” It was a simple enough answer, and the truth. The detective was a man who liked his comfort zones and one he became comfortable with something, it was hardpressed to make him change it.
There is certainly something to be said for firing a pistol you're comfortable with, especially in the line of work Officer Jorge was in. Change one variable in a life or death situation and you're liable to end up dead. The Ranger deemed the answer satisfactory, it wasn't a typical response from a Glock owner where they rave about how the Glock is the greatest weapon system since the pointy stick, it was a simple statement that conveyed understanding of the Glock and other firearms as well as competency.
He nodded, "Understandable. I've always been a Sig fan myself, a P226 served me well over seas. An' thankfully I wadn't restricted t' 9mm like you are with yer service pistol." To him 9mm is a great round, but being limited to only it seems asinine.
