The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

When Skydancer had told Aura that she intended to actually give Sanctuary a chnce a few nights ago, that was exactly what she intended to do. The Mansion was nice, of course, and no one had said a thing to her about her unusual appearance. It wasn't even as if she was the only one around that looked out of place in the outside world. But in truth, she still knew next to nothing about the place or what the motivations were of those who ran it and that was something deeply disturbing to her. Oh, she had heard it was some kind of school or something and they were there to train mutants in the use of their powers and the teenagers and younger running around did lend some credence to that claim. But were they simply training them in the use of their powers, or was it for some other means? Like, for example, recruiting powerful mutations into their own personal philosophy in order to have more soldiers for their little war of ideologies?
It wasn't as if a mutant in Skydancer's position had a lot of options. Even if she looked completely normal, the fact that she was a teenager who never finished high school was bad enough, but far worse than that was the fact that she was an alien purple freak who never finished high school. No one would ever hire her for anything and few people would rent to her even if she did have money to pay for an appartment. No one wanted a monster in their midst and, it seemed, mutants had something of a reputation for being dangerous and unstable. Maybe she did have the potential to be dangerous, but unstable just wasn't her. She had rather good control of her powers, no matter what anyone else might think, and she had never hurt anyone too badly with them. The few she had hurt had deserved it, self defense and all.
If having a dry place to live also meant being forced to choose sides in a war, then Skydancer was at least going to make the most educated decision possible. One side was sure to be more right than the other and she wasn't about to let anyone sway her with shoddy propoganda. No, she fully intended to investigate both sides fully in order to make the best decision possible. Maybe once she'd established herself a little and gotten back on her feet, maybe then she'd figure out some way to get out of this stupid war she wanted nothing to do with. How she might do so she hadn't the faintest of ideas, but that was the plan.
At that moment Skydancer took out the little card Aura had given her and was searching for Sanctuary. She knew it had to be close but, unfortunately, she had taken a wrong turn somewhere and now she was horribly lost. Maybe if she could find something to grab onto she could hoist herself onto a nearby rooftop and get a better view of the area. A mutant homeless shelter had to be pretty large, didn't it?
Walking with her head staring upwards to find some sortof pipe sticking out or satellite dish or something similar, Skydancer almost didn't notice when she walked into a dead end alley. It was only when she turned around that she realized she had been followed for an unknown amount of time. 6 people stood around the moth of the alley, armed with bats, bars and at least 1 knife. "Looks like we've got ourselves a little mutie freak!" The gang laughed and started approaching, violence clearly their intent.
That's what today was turning out to be. Long, slow and boring. It wasn't that Kyle didn't mind the peace and quiet every now and then. Those days allowed his body to restore itself, to mend wounds both old and new, so that when an interesting day came along, he wasn't ending up crippled from a hit not yet healed. It also allowed him a chance to further explore his new home, to meet with those who also resided within its walls. When days were boring, they were at least full of relaxation and learning.
But it had been too many of those days lately and Kyle had grown impatient. And there was little for him to do about it. The few people he knew within the Order were all busy of sorts; Lori with her duties, Noel off and about with Sebastian, Isabel off somewhere she didn't want to be followed. And all the others he'd met yet did not know well enough to call upon were off too. Aside from them, working out was feasible but one could only test the limits of one's muscles for so long before boredom set in again.
So there was only one option left. Outside. That train of thought had lead him to the rooftops of the nearby buildings, to gliding across those obstacle ridden roofs with practiced ease. The freedom it gave him stirred his blood and pumped adrenaline through his veins, a broad grin of joy painted firmly onto his features. Little by little, the rest of the world was lost in this, this practice of his skills and the pleasure such an event brought to his mind and body. For a brief moment, the boredom was halted.
A moment after that, something else caught his attention. A voice, not far off from him, echoing from a building just one over from his own. No, not a voice. A laugh. And not from once source either; there had to be several people laughing to get the level of volume he was hearing. Curiosity took hold and with several quick jumps, Kyle was looking down into the alley, its base a mere two stories below. There he saw seven people; six obviously together as they moved towards the seventh, a girl not older then twenty.
A woman then, and not a human one. Even from here, Kyle could see that she had features that marked her as a mutant, with clear skin that no human would ever have. And all six men were advancing on her and one glance at them told him all he needed to know. Humans attacking single mutant; well, now that couldn't go on. With a smile at what was suddenly about to become an interesting day, Kyle jumped down to the floor below, a small ledge catching his weight. Then he jumped down again, landing with a thud behind one man and bringing his arm up.
The men barely had time to turn to the new sound before the first was flying backwards, Kyle's bolt having caught him clear under the jaw and sending him sprawling in a heap nearby. Smiling at the others, then winking at the girl, Kyle wiggled a finger at them. "Six of you against one woman? My my, you must all be weak as in if you need that many for one woman.
How about you play with someone more your size and gender and leave the lady be? Unless...perhaps the lady would care to join me in clearly showing these lads who the superior race is?" Kyle was ignoring the men now, for all that they were snarling and hissing at him. His attention was tot he woman and what her next move would be.

Skydancer wasn't the most experienced in a fight but little experience didn't mean no experience at all. On the streets she had learned very quickly that she either had to defend herself or be taken advantage of, or worse. Fortunately, when you had 30 foot tubes in your body with razor sharp tips and enough strength to move cars, well, defense wasn't much of a challenge.
The problem here was that there were more assailants than Skydancer could comfortably take on at once. Two or three, certainly, but even if she had enough tubes to attack 6 simultaneously, the problem was that she simply couldn't focus on all six in order to make her attacks effective. Her brain had developed along with her power, but it simply hadn't developed that much nor did it allow her to see behind her, if any of her attackers should make it behind her. Her only hope was to bluff and hope it was enough.
A tube burst from each of Skydancer's wrists, a pair from her chest and a pair from her back. "Didn't you ever learn that mutants are dangerous?" She worked to keep her voice cold and even and mostly even succeeded. Surely they wouldn't notice that very slight little waver in her voice? She stared down the leader, waving her tubes in front of her, deadly tips in plain sight.
"Those don't look so dangerous to me," the leader sneered dismissively, lifting his knife which seemed to Skydancer almost large enough to be a short sword. He began approaching and, after only a slight hesitation, the others followed.
Skydancer looked desperately for a bar or ledge or something, anything, she could wrap her tubes around in order to escape, but there was nothing. Just as she was about to entirely give up hope, face her attackers and try her best to survive, a man jumped down to the ground and sent one of her attackers flying. Unexpected though it was, it was all the distraction she needed as a purple tube came shooting out, wrapping itself around the leader's knife arm and lifting him with little effort from the ground. Spinning him to gain momentum, she then hurled him towards the other attackers, sending them sprawling in a heap. The adrenaline of the situation was sufficient that she didn't feel the usual ache around the place where the tube was anchored to her much weaker body.
Skydancer spared a brief glance at her rescuer. "Thank you for your assistance. As you can see I can take care of myself, but I'm not so good with gangs." She turned back to said gang and was disappointed, but hardly surprised, to find them getting back to their feet and not about to start running.
From his vantage point above the group, Kyle had been able to see everything quite clearly. At the time, however, his attention had been focused on the advancing group more then the woman they were advancing on.
Now that he was on the ground along with her, Kyle couldn't help but notice the extensions waving from about four places on her body. At first, Kyle didn't know what to make of them. At first glance, they reminded him of Isabel and her ability to make her bones grow...but this was different. Whatever this woman had extended from herself, they were purple in color and appeared to be slightly more flexible then bones would be. A curious matter that Kyle would investigate later. For now, more recent circumstances required his attention.
The woman's attack had taken the attackers by surprise, surprise that Kyle entry had cast upon them. With a single move, the woman had cast their leader into his fellows, leaving a grumbling, cursing heap of bodies that squirmed to untangle themselves. Sparing a glance away from them to face the damsel, Kyle cast her a grin.
"Glad to be of assistance. And while I have no doubt you could handle these idiots, today has been pretty slow. This is a good way to kill some time." The sound of cursing was growing louder now, forcing Kyle to turn back to the group, which had managed to get back to their feet and were now stalking towards them again. "Of course, how long a bunch of fools will last remains to be seen."
He said that last part loud enough for them to hear and like any good hunter knew, the right bait was required to attract their prize. In this case, the bait was calling them fools and the foolish were the ones now rushing forward at them. With ease, Kyle flicked a bolt at the front runner as he neared, tripping his leg out from under him and sending him sprawling forward. Right into Kyle's waiting knee, which snapped his head back with a sickening crack.
His buddy barely had time to register his friend had gone down before Kyle was moving, stepping to one side with a spin and snapping a blow to the back of the man's neck. The man, stunned, continued on until he stumbled into a pile of trash, crashing with a rather loud display of noise.
In having turned his attention to those men, Kyle had let two of the others rush past him, both obviously hoping the woman was an easier mark. Kyle grinned at the thought; the idiots were walking into the second part of the trap, if he was any good judge of the woman's abilities. Still watching the others, he shouted back to her. "So who do I have the pleasure of saving today?"

Skydancer had gotten lucky with her first attack given the distraction the newcomer had so helpfully provided. She wasn't so certain that she'd be that lucky a second time, especially if the thugs were intelligent enough to coordinate an attack against her. While she might have enough appendages to attack numerous targets at once, she didn't have eyes in the back of her head and she could only split her attention so many ways at once.
"Glad to be of assistance. And while I have no doubt you could handle these idiots, today has been pretty slow. This is a good way to kill some time. Of course, how long a bunch of fools will last remains to be seen."
Her rescuer certainly seemed confident, perhaps even a bit cocky but as Skydancer watched him in action, she decided there was a reason for his cockiness. He was good, that much was quite clear by his display of fighting prowess, far more proficient than Skydancer's own efforts. Her power made her dangerous but what training she had was not centered around combat situations. The question pertaining to why he would even want to help her was something she would adress once the threat had passed.
Skydancer saw the two men heading in her direction and braced herself, trying to get the timing perfect. "If you just leave now you don't have to get hurt." Of course they didn't listen and, at about 10 feet from her, she whipped out two of her tubes, wrapping one around the neck of the first assailant and one around the waiste of the second. She lifted the two men far above her head, smashed their bodies together and dropped them to the ground. Both of them lay still, although she could hear their groans of pain so she knew she couldn't have done anything too serious to them.
"So who do I have the pleasure of saving today?"
The remaining two assailants froze at the display from the pair of them, looked at each other and proceeded to run in the opposite direction, leaving their fallen comrades behind. "The name's Skydancer. And who might I ask are you, who so gallantly came and saved this poor mutant?" She wasn't quite comfortable reigning in her tubes yet, but she offered a hand to her rescuer, if he decided to shake it.
Kyle had managed to turn just in time, it seemed. Just in time to see the woman's display of her own powers, which he had to admit, was quite the display. Those tubes that extended from her form were much stronger then they looked, a point they proved when they easily lifted two of the men from the ground. A thud followed as the two men were collapsed into one another, then a crashing of various sounds when they were dropped to the ground.
He was smiling, Kyle realized, and he turned that grin in the direction of the two remaining members. Taking satisfaction in the look of terror in both their faces, Kyle rolled energy through his fingers as he waited for them to attempt to do what their fellows could not. To his disappointment, both men ran away instead of toward them. A wise choice, but not a fun one.
Frowning and sighing, Kyle shook his head and turned to the woman. Without batting an eye as he approached her, he flicked two more bolts at the men groaning on the ground...a groaning that was promptly silenced. They wouldn't be dead but they'd be quiet now.
Taking the hand she offered to him after introducing herself, Kyle turned his frown back into a grin. "Kyle Albatross, at your service Ms Skydancer. Glad to help; it was the most fun I've had all day to be honest. Now maybe you could tell me what prompted these...fine gentlemen to hassle you this morning?"

As the two remaining thugs ran in fear of the pair of them, Skydancer realized just how much she enjoyed the sensation of actually being someone dangerous and intimidating. Sure, she wished more than anything she could simply blend into human society most of the time, but there was something extremely satisfying about seeing the fear on the faces of those running from her. It was something she was quite certain she could get used to.
"Kyle Albatross, at your service Ms Skydancer. Glad to help; it was the most fun I've had all day to be honest. Now maybe you could tell me what prompted these...fine gentlemen to hassle you this morning?"
"Pleased to meet you Kyle and thanks for the help." Despite the earlier fear of the situation, Skydancer found herself grinning. Fun wasn't a word she would have thought to choose when thinking of a battle for her well being and possibly her life, but at that moment she realized that 'fun' was a very good descriptor. In the past her gymnastics had given her that rush of adrenaline that she had always craved and its loss had shattered her mentally. Perhaps, though, she might just find something to replace that, something more suited to her new mutant talents.
"As for what prompted their attack, the fact that I'm purple I think was pretty much enough for them." Aside from to check that the thugs were still breathing, Skydancer didn't bat an eye when Kyle fired two purple bolts of energy at the fallen assailants. It sure did explain why he was helping her, if he was a mutant also and besides, after what they did they deserved a little pain and retribution.
With a thought, Skydancer reigned her tubes in, the skin sealing over where they had once been in a matter of moments, flawless as ever. "Say, you wouldn't know of a place called Sanctuary, would you? I heard it was around here but I kind of got myself lost." Nope, not one of her finest moments, but it happened and she couldnt' do much about it now.
Sky's assessment of her attackers reason for attacking her was sound enough; Kyle knew all too well just how far some anti-mutant protesters would go in their attempts to rid the world of the mutant disease. Of course, those idiots usually came in greater numbers then just six and even if they didn't, they came with better weapons then a shoddy knife. One look at Sky's powers should have had them running for the hills, number advantage non-withstanding.
But of course, there would be no fun if there weren't idiots like these running around. Lucky for them, Sky didn't seem in the habit of killing those who attacked her and Kyle, well, he just wasn't up for ending some idiots today. Hopefully the bruises would make them think twice before jumping another mutant.
Kyle raised in eyebrow and watched in amusement and curiosity as the tubes waving around Sky slid back under her skin with the barest of effort. An interesting mutation, to say the least. There wasn't even a mark on her skin to indicate where the tubes had extended from. A hidden mutant, aside from the purple skin of course.
At the mention of Sanctuary, Kyle blinked once at his mind slowed to register what she had just said, then his smile grew and he couldn't contain the laugh that bubbled up. "Lost indeed. Well, lucky for you, your savior also knows where your talking about. Truth be told, I just came from there; it's the big building just a few streets over. I'm surprised you missed it.
If you need an escort, I think I could head back that way. It's not far and maybe we could have a bit of fun on the way back."

"Well, I'm glad someone knows this area. I'm not quite sure how I managed to get myself so horrible turned around." Skydancer laughed at her own incopatence. Now that the danger was passed, she felt significantly more relaxed and if she couldn't laugh at herself then who could she laugh at? The things she took seriously she took very seriously, but everything else was open for a little light heartedness.
"I would love an escort, though I'm not sure how much more excitment I can handle," Skydancer answered with a smile. "One ambush by a gang of idiots is quite anough for one night, thanks very much." Tolerance was something she usually prided herself on, but how tolerant should one be towards the intolerance of others? Perhaps it was time she start to think about where she actually stood, all things considered. Perhaps part of the reason for her expadition to Sanctuary should be to find what alternatives existed and instead of avoiding choosing a side, actually proactively choose one. Perhaps she was more a part of the mutant conflict than she cared to initially admit.
"I think I may need to learn to be a little more proactive about using my powers proactively," Skydancer stated as she followed Kyle. "If I'm going to be forced to deal with others like our little friends back there." To be forced to live in a world where such intolerance existed and where one was forced to resort to violence made her angry.
A smirk slid across Kyle's face when Sky waved off his offer to try something exciting in their journey back to the folds of Sanctuary. From the way she replied to him, Sky must have been assuming whatever he was planning to involve finding another bunch of fools with which to wipe the floor with. His real idea couldn't have been farther from the truth.
"Well then escort you I shall. But I'm taking the quicker route, which in my opinion, is by far the better route. Keep up if you can."
Still smiling, Kyle was suddenly off running. At first it simply looked as if his destination and intent was to run all the way back to Sanctuary; that was about half true. When Kyle was only a few meters away from exiting the alley, his angle abruptly changed by 90 degrees as he shifted towards the wall instead. When he was a step or two away from the wall, his feet left the pavement and made contact again with the wall in front of him.
Kyle didn't stay still for a moment, for as soon as his feet were hard against the wall, he pushed off again. His mark? The fire escape less then a story up. One hand easily caught the bottom of the rail and with a swing to steady himself, swung his other arm and a leg up to roll onto the fire escape. Looking down to Sky, Kyle waved at her and motioned with his hand that she should follow.
"You want to test your powers out some more? Well, there's a fair share of rooftop between here and Sanctuary and a ton of things in the way. Think of it as an obstacle course! Now, come on, time's a wasting!"
And then he was racing up the steps of the fire escape to return to the roofs for what would hopefully be an eventful return to Sanctuary.

Skydancer was a little skeptical at the suggestion Kyle made to have a little fun on the way back, assuming (logically to her mind) that he meant they were going to get in another fight. When he started running she was forced to change her mind and when he suggested they engage in an obstical course, well, she grinned in anticipation. Obstical course was right down her alley.
While running had never been Skydancer's activity of choice, years of training had increased her stamina and speed substancially. While she wasn't likely to win a long distance race, she knew her levels of physical fitness were well above those of the average person. Thus, while Kyle was certainly fast, she was able to keep up. When he jumped up to the fire escape ladder, that's where the real fun was set to start.
"Obstical course I can do," Skydancer agreed in anticipation. A purple tube burst from her chest and wrapped around the fire escape ladder, pulling her to the top of the building. She took a quick look around to establish a prospective course before nodding at Kyle, satisfied. "Anywhere you can go I can follow," she stated with confidence. Confidence in her own abilities had never been one of her shortcomings.
Kyle had just reached the roof when Sky came soaring up behind him, the tubes she had used earlier pulling her with ease from the ground below. Kyle had fully expected that she would use that method, for it wasn't the first time he'd encountered a mutant with abilities that extended beyond the body.
The question remained now how well she could use those powers for what came next. Kyle already knew the other party he spoke of could use her powers as well as any part of her body. And Kyle did like to see how far one could use their abilities, so this run over the roofs would be a good test. For both of them.
Kyle himself was no stranger to running across obstacle ridden rooftops. It was one of his favorite hobbies. His parkour skills, partnered with his mutant abilities that granted him stamina far above the mortal man, made him almost perfectly built for cutting his way across the only place in New York not burdened by traffic, both human and machine.
Flashing her a grin, Kyle turned his eyes on the rooftops beyond. "Well then...let's that put to the test, shall we?"
Without wasting a moment to spare her another glance, Kyle was gone, taking off at full tilt across the roofs. As soon as he hit the first obstacle, he was already clear of it, sliding across the vent shaft like it wasn't even there at all. Here, right now, Kyle was at home. And he was curious to see how well Sky handled his home.

Sometimes being a gymnast wasn't so different than taking part in an obsical course. In both instances dexterity and physical fitness were very important, as well as being able to think on your feet. Of course, as a human Skydancer had real competition on both cases, as a mutant not so much. She had advantages that no human could ever hope to compete with and even the idea of competing on that level would have been innately unfair. Mutant powers were cheating. Unless, of course, one was competing with a fellow mutant, which Kyle was.
"I look forward to seeing what you can do," Skydancer answered. She didn't have a clear idea of what, exactly, his power was but given the eagerness of his little suggestion, she had a feeling it was something that would help him with such a game. Whatever it turned out to be, she was certain it would prove to be interesting.
Keeping up was the name of this particular game and keeping up was exactly what Skydancer intended to do. As soon as Kyle sped off, she was quick to follow, two tubes coming out of her shoulders. She sped to the end of the roof and leapt, not even thinking about the ground far below her. A tube wrapped itself around a pole on the roof across from her and pulled her safely to that rooftop. She didn't let go, instead allowing the moment to spin her in whatever direction Kyle led.
Kyle noticed with a sense of satisfaction that Sky was quick on the uptake on how this game was played; he was even more glad when she seemed to be taking to it with optimism. Since the game didn't involve teaching some poor fools the meaning of respect, Sky's attitude towards it had changed substantially.
Kyle shook his head to clear his mind of any lingering thoughts. Traversing the rooftops took concentration and the slightest slip could be fatal if one wasn't careful. True, it was only about two stories from here to the ground, but even the most prepared landing could result in something being broken and in the case of a bad landing, Kyle could easily die.
Hopping a low set of pipes, Kyle glanced over to see Sky soaring across the gap between two buildings, her tubes easily pulling her over to the far side with ease. He, on the other hand, had to take a slightly more difficult route, jumping to a line that extended from one building to the other and shuffling along it quickly, hand over hand. When he got near the end, Kyle swung his lower body back and then jumped the rest of the way, landing in a roll before taking off once again.
Again, Kyle flew over the simple rooftop obstacles with simplistic ease, making sure to stay where Sky could see him. Pointing with a hand after he jumped to a low shed that would lead down into the building, Kyle indicated their destination just a ways ahead. "That's the Sanctuary there. See? Amazing that you missed it right?" Kyle wondered briefly if Sky would notice he wasn't even breathing hard yet; most people didn't.

Skydancer lived for physica exertion and pushing her limits. That was the name of the game for her, to prove she was the best at what she did. Gymnastics was one thing, something to get her adrenaline going and prove her personal excellence, but this was something difference. The joy of running and swinging across rooftops of breakneck speeds was due, in part, to the fact that there were no safety nets here and she knew the slightest mistake could prove fatal. While she was fairly sure her tubes made falling to the ground less likely than her game partner, they also made it more likely that if she did fall, the consequenses would be severe.
The next rooftop was tricky because there was nothing to easily wrap her tubes around in order to pull her onto it. Instead she went up and around, spotting a nearby fire escape that led to a balcony. One tube around the fire escape followed by a second around the balcony, a couple of sings to gain momentum and she flung herself onto the roof that had been her intial goal, landing in picture perfect fashion. With an exilerated grin, she raced after Kyle.
"That's the Sanctuary there. See? Amazing that you missed it right?"
By the time Skydancer stopped, she was breathing heavily. Swinging on its own didn't tire her, but all the running in between certainly did. A glance at Kyle illustrated the curious fact that he wasn't out of breath; curious because there were few people more physically fit than Skydancer herself was. "I don't know how I could have missed that," She replied with a laugh. "It does kind of stick out, now that I see it. So, you must train a whole hell of a lot if you're not out of breath from that little adventure." Her grin returned because it was hard not to grin after that kind of fun.
