The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Gawain stood with his forehead against the mirror. It took him more than an hour to scrub off the zombie makeup, and the real zombie stuff that covered it. Ick. At one point it felt like no amount of hot water, soap and other chemicals would ever be enough to feel clean again. It was past midnight by now, and he was glad he finally managed to get all the stuff off before he turned into some weird undead drag queen. And the gore and blood was the least of his problems.
He couldn't stop thinking about Ami. What the hell just happened? His girlfriend manifesting mutant powers in the middle of a fight to save his life... that was not easy to wrap his head around. He could imagine it was not easy for Ami either. Aurum took her home after everything was over... but if anyone, Gawain knew that dealing with new mutations took time. And it sucked to do it alone.
Dressing up once again and picking up his backpack, he walked into the mirror. A good half an hour of mirrorhopping later he was standing in another mirror, looking into Ami's room. If she was asleep, he'd just walk away. But he needed to check on her, or he would not get any sleep at all...
The covers were messy, from tossing and turning restlessly. She hadn't been able to sleep. For a while. She'd managed, eventually. From where her mirror was positioned, anyone looking out of it would be able to get a good view of the head of the bed. Of her, eyes closed. Of a single tear drop hanging in the corner of one eye.
Gawain slipped out of the mirror and landed softly on his feet, setting the backpack down onto the floor before he walked over to the bed. She looked so young. Now that she was sleeping with her cheeks wet, and not sassy or fierce as usual. The young knight sighed and looked at her. The night sucked for him, but it sucked worse for her. She had to fight zombies and find out she was a mutant. And she had been crying.
Kneeling by the bed, he reached out and wiped the tear from her cheek. He didn't want to wake her up; but he wanted to be there when she did...
"Shhh, it's okay" he murmured. She looked desperate. Was she having nightmares? Kicking off his shoes, he lay down next to her and wrapped his arms around her, trying to make her feel safe.
She didn't wake, but... Amelia settled down, at Gawain's shushing words.
"Okay..." She trailed.
Maya was okay.
Warm.
Warm, too.
But that hadn't been Maya's voice... her forehead crinkled in thought. One eye crept open. Testingly, she glanced over her shoulder to see what was snuggling her.
There was a boy in her bed.
Amelia blinked a few times, to clear the sleep from her eyes. "Gawain?" She asked, uncertainly.
Several conflicting thoughts fought for control of her head, like seagulls fighting over bread.
There was a boy in her bed. That boy was Gawain.
Her dad would kill her.
Actually. Her mom would kill her. But her dad would probably back it up.
Tonight had been terrifying. Shocking. Also, kind of cool.
She'd lied to Aurum, by omission. She hadn't told him all of what had happened.
And she'd been crying about it, so Gawain had... just shown up to give her a hug.
At that last thought, she had to blush a little. There were many very good reasons she considered him a knight. She supposed this list included the fact that he was a risk-taker, and liked to press his luck.
Really, in her bed. At night.
Kissing her.
He should have known better. And she should have known better than to kiss him back.
Nope.
Amelia turned, letting the pillow fall over the side to land on the floor. Her hands rested on his cheeks, pulling him into a brief kiss. Then, they fell to rest around his shoulders, and on his back. She buried her face on his shoulder. A few tears escaped her.
Gawain was fully aware that at this point, he was playing with his life. If Ami's parents found him... well, no. He couldn't really care, even if he tried. Ami kissed him, and he kissed her back softly, before she snuggled up to him and he nuzzled her neck. She felt like she was about to cry again.
>>"I'm not sure what to do."
"It's okay." he murmured, holding her "It's gonna be okay. We'll figure it out."
They would. There were thing that needed to be figured out. But Gawain had experience, and Ami was smart.
She just stayed that way, for a while. Holding him, head rested on his shoulder. It was a good way to be.
She'd been so scared, when Maya had been in danger. But Gawain was here now, and he was fine.
She'd killed zombies.
Could one really 'kill' zombies?
Zombies could really 'kill' a mood.
It was a good thing she'd managed to keep her panda hoodie relatively spatter-free. It was too cute for carnage. She had a very specific hoodie made to resemble that. She didn't need two.
And, she was a mutant. A mutant. Her parents would be fine with it. Nobody in her family was weird about that, but still. It was a whole other world. She wasn't naive. She knew that there were people out there that didn't like mutants. She liked to refer to these people as 'jerks'.
What were they going to do to deal with this...
Well. She supposed there was only one real thing she could suggest at that moment.
Amelia spoke quickly, muffled, into Gawain's shoulder. "You need to help me learn to handle my mutant powers."
That seemed the most logical suggestion at the time.
>> "You need to help me learn to handle my mutant powers."
"I will" he nodded, stroking her hair gently "You don't have to do this alone. We'll figure out the whole thing together, and you are going to be one kickass mutant girl. Hm?"
He was smiling against her skin. He knew she could handle it. Mutant or no mutant, Ami was still Ami. She could handle anything.
"I don't think I ever thanked you for saving my life tonight." he muttered. He just remembered that.
>>"I will" he nodded, stroking her hair gently "You don't have to do this alone. We'll figure out the whole thing together, and you are going to be one kickass mutant girl. Hm?"
"Mhm," she agreed. Again, muffled against a shoulder.
She was sort of in love with this whole 'supportive boyfriend' schtick.
The snuggling wasn't bad, either.
>>"I don't think I ever thanked you for saving my life tonight." Gawain added.
Amelia channeled Sousuke Sagara. And she was kind of proud of it. "Not a problem." He would have done the same for her.
He smiled and kissed her on the forehead again. He was in a mood. It was not unusual for him to be in a snuggly kind of mood after some scary sh*t went down (been there before, a long time ago - another life, another girl). But this one felt different none the less. One does not see Ami cry every day.
"You are the bravest girl I've ever met" he smiled, peering down at her "You're gonna be all right."
Holding her felt like the right thing to do. He hoped no one would get the same idea and show up to check on her. Because, well. That would be awkward...
She rested her head against his chest with a tiny smirk. "Thanks." But, she suspected, if he were looking for the person she thought of as the bravest girl in the world... he needed to look in mirrors more.
Man. That was corny. Seriously. And it was getting late.
But. Cuddling. Good.
Parents mad. Bad.
Moral compass... floundering.
Logic... where?
She could not make up her mind whether to hug him more or kick him out. What the hell?
"I have school tomorrow..." Amelia noted. As that was one thing she knew with certainty.
Always the smart one. Gawain smiled into her hair. As brave and sassy as she was, sometimes he could also catch a glimpse of the sweet innocent girl inside. The one that liked snuggling up to him, but at the same time, she wouldn't want him to stay the night. That was... probably a girl thing. And also, her choice.
"I do too" he murmured, quickly becoming more and more sleepy as he hugged her "Want me to go?..."
