The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Oh crap."
Apparently she was not the only one watching him run away. Some men who happened to be standing around McDonald's noticed him too, and decided a kid with dreadlocks running aways from a woman and a car, with a backpack, was suspicious enough to pursue. Gemma was damn sure he had a good reason for running away. Which also meant if those men caught him, he would not get away with a warning. With a sigh, she locked the car, and hurried towards the fence. By that time one of the men dragged the kid off the fence, and the other was holding him down.
"Ma'am? Was this kid bothering you?"
Gemma sighed as she walked up to them.
"Ma'am? We saw him run away from your car. Did he take somethin' from you?"
She looked down at the kid for a long moment. He was not going down without a fight. But it was two against one...
With his head on the ground, all he could see at first were the stars. The night sky was normally his friend, but tonight it just didn't seem to like him all that much. Perhaps it wasn't a wise choice holding the women up with a snow brush, and it wasn't exactly the best thing in the world that he booked after she bought him food. One failure after another seemed to pile on top of him. Now it was in the form of two husky guys. Good Samaritans they might crown themselves with, but right now they were anything but that.
Great. To make things worse, of all people in the world to show up, it was the very woman he just ditched. Why did she come over, and why was it automatically assumed he did wrong to her from the punks who pulled him off the fence. "Wasn't bothering her you ass." The lard holding him down might have him out weighed, but he was sure if he got up off the ground that he could out run him. He might have to ditch his bag in the process but it might be worth it.
"Watch your mouth kid."
Adults, they thought they knew everything. If anyone was bothering anyone, it was the two jerks stopping him on his flight. It was as if Shammo the Whale was on him, or at least he held a very strong smell of fish. Someone ate one to many Fish fillet meals. Why couldn't he have super strength or the ability to turn into a puddle. Then he could get away from all them. Still, there had to be a better option. If the two guys didn't let him go soon, they were sure to draw more attention. More attention meant sirens, he did not want that.
"She wont let me go out tonight tuna breath." It was worth a shot. With her eyes staring down at him he could only hear over and over again in his head need anything else...A crowbar to get the guy off him would be nice, or even a shovel. Though this wasn't the time or place to say such things out loud. His only hope was for the woman to lie through her teeth. Worse case, he'd be figuring out how to get free from handcuffs and the NYPD.
Wiggling a bit, he tried to free himself some. He certainly wasn't going to let two jerks end his joy ride. Crashed cars, hostages, these were the things that happen during his time. The hours of the night, it was his time to shine, this was his place. Stupid adults stomping in and taking it away from him. They had no clue the rush that only the night had to offer, far from it. Stiff. They were all stiff adults lacking the thrill and excitement life had to offer. Sure they weren't running from the law, or were they?

>>"She wont let me go out tonight tuna breath."
The brat had some nerve, counting on her lying to these fine gentlemen. Gemma shook her head, considering for another long moment. Seriously? From all the chances he could take, he was counting on her word? She really was a brat magnet. Mommy of all the runaways.
With a sigh, she nodded.
"That's because last time you got home it was way past your curfew, mister. And you are grounded for another two weeks."
The fine gentlemen looked at her, then at each other.
"Let him up, for god's sake" she waved "I got this. God knows I'd like to teach him a lesson, but I'm not going to take parenting out of your time, gentlemen. Thank you for your assistance. I can take it from here."
The men looked down at the struggling kid for a long moment, before they grabbed him by the shoulders and lifted him to his feet.
His fate was all left to this woman, the very woman he terrorized with a snow brush. Great. While the adults did their thing, he was left to figure out what to do exactly. He couldn't just bail on her after having her save his hide, but at the same time he wasn't about to get all emotional towards her. For the moment she was...he wasn't sure. The apple lady wasn't all that bad, for the time being.
Lifted from the ground, the runaway adjusted his bag. It looked like he was going to be stuck back in the car again. Not saying a word, he waited for the men to leave them. Sure she was playing along with him, but even if she was his real parent, he certainly wouldn't hug her in public, that was not his thing. Still he had to say something. "Two apple pies, and a number four?" It wasn't a demand but more of a question now. For all he knew she might have tossed the meal in the trash on her way to his rescue.
His eyes drifted away from the woman towards the golden arches. If he was doomed to get turned in, at least he could go down with two apple pies and a number four in him. He highly doubted the food around here for delinquents like him was any better then what he got stuck with last time. Just because he was going to take the food, if it was still there, didn't mean he trusted her any more then he had in the beginning. She was just a free ride and a free meal.
He might be able to get her to drive around the town a bit, enough that he could find some place and pretend it was where he really was from. Not like she would know the difference. He only needed a place that was stupid enough to leave the garage unlocked or a place with the lights off and he could go in the back. He'd figure out something, once he got something in his stomach. How far could he milk this out? If she could blow an easy six bucks on him for McDonalds, maybe she was loaded with enough cash he might be able to bum a twenty off her. That would help him out a bit.
What was he thinking? The more time he spent with her here, the higher at risk he was for being recognized by someone. He had to get out of here, but where could he go. Someplace that was warm and didn't have cameras. It was his best shot. Not knowing the area was making things more difficult, he at least knew places he could bum out back home but this was another ball game here. Looking away from her, he waited for a reply. Just because he didn't have the fish guy on him didn't mean she was his hero or anything.

>>"Two apple pies, and a number four?"
"You can have the fries too for all I care" she smirked, turning around and marching back to the car. She knew he would follow her. She had food. The kid must have been really hungry.
Once at the car, she opened the front door on the passenger's side for him. "Get in."
It was not a request. Once he was inside, she got into the driver's seat, and handed him the food. "Eat."
He probably did not need to be told twice.
"You can call me Miss Taylor. Or Miss Gemma. Do you have a name that you don't mind using?"
She was not being nice or friendly. She was being effective. And technically, she thought as she started the car, now the kid owed her one anyway.
Letting the woman take the lead, he trailed behind her keeping his distance. She might be giving him the free food, but he could only trust her as far as he could throw her. Since he wasn't exactly a star athlete in the realm of throwing people, it didn't give much leveraging room on the matter. On the rare chance that the two men might be watching them, he had to play the part of the kid, keeping a low profile was key to survival, something he seemed to be having slight difficulties with.
Since he hadn't paid to much attention to what car he had been in, it was a good thing that he did let Miss Taylor lead the way. Miss....for a woman that claimed to have children, it would have been more of a Mrs. Taylor instead. Looked like he nabbed a lying woman for sure. Though who was he to judge, he wasn't exactly choir boy material himself.
At the opening of the passenger side door and pretty much command to get in, his eyes opened slightly more. Did she thing he was some sort of mutt to command around? If he didn't have hot warm food waiting for him, oh things would have been much different.Climbing into the car, he sat in the front, but left his leg out of the car. He may have been told to sit, but how was he to know if she had some crazy lock thing for her car that would make it impossible to leave. Once she got in, Hokee closed the door.
Avoiding direct eye contact, he didn't need to be told twice to eat. Taking the pies first, he started to chew on the sweet warm treats. Desert before dinner, this was the only way to live. A burger slightly cold was alright, but cold pie just was worthless. One thing for sure, he wished he had demanded three pies instead, then he could shove one into her mouth so he could eat in peace.
With a grunt he tried to evade the question. How was he to know she wouldn't go and rat him out to the authorities? He didn't have anything to use against her right now to keep himself at the upper hand. Having the food in his possession, he could theoretically keep his identification captive. Unwrapping the second pie, he gave a quick glance over at her. "Why? So you can run off and tell someone who I am." Stupid, she was stupid.
Hello I just fooled your stupid ass with a snow brush to get McDonalds. Nice to meet you, did I tell you my name is gullible? Taking a bite of the apple pie that filled his mouth beyond the point of conversation, his fingers wrapped around the bag a bit tighter. He could toss out any name, would she even know the difference? Swallowing half the mouthful, he quickly shoved the rest of the pie in his mouth. As long as his mouth was occupied he wouldn't have to answer.
With the turn of the key, his attention was caught. Did he tell her that they could start driving again, did he say start the car up? Damn her and damn himself for not demanding her keys. Chewing overtime, he was forced to swallow sooner then he liked. "Where you going?" Life was simpler in the backseat, at least there he had a snow brush to control things.

>>"Why? So you can run off and tell someone who I am."
"I didn't ask you what your name was" she smirked, glancing at him as he ate. The kid must have bee starving. It felt like trying to tame a very hungry animal. Not really a dangerous one, like a lion... more like, a stray dog. Or a coyote. Definitely bigger than a squirrel.
"I asked you for a name you don't mind using."
>>"Where you going?"
Now he looked alarmed. She glanced at him again. She didn't stop to explain to him that now he had no snow brush to threaten her with, and even a desperate kid knew better than to assualt you while you were driving and possibly cause an accident. So, she remained calm.
"Wherever you want to go" she shrugged "But just so you know, the offer still stands. I'm not trying to trick you. I could have just let those guys take you to the police if I wanted. But, as I said, there is nothing ordinary about the place where I work, and it's half empty this close to the holidays anyway. I'm pretty sure we could find you some food and a room. You know, until you figure out where you want to go." she glanced at him again "I'm not stupid enough to ask you to trust me without trusting you first. Your call."
Sam would probably have kittens if he saw her right now. There was a good chance the kid would pack up, steal some food, and be on his merry way by tomorrow. But Mansion security made sure he wouldn't take anything important, and the Mansion in general usually took care of the rest. Even if he wasn't a mutant.
Unwrapping his number four double cheeseburger, his eyes locked on the woman. Not even looking at his food, he unhinged his jaw shoving as much of it as he could inside his mouth. She wasn't going to drop the name thing, and she was trying to be all smart on him. Well he wasn't no nut case for a Guidance Counselor to go and play word games on him. Being all sneaky with her phrasing and such.
Slowing chewing, he let the silence grow between them. Yeah, he had his food for now, but how in the world was she taking what he was dishing so...well. With the grease drizzling from the corners of his mouth, his tongue was in a fantasy of fatty goodness. Onions, cheese, ketchup, fake beef, this was the survival food of a fifteen year old.
Mouth half full of food he talked without thinking. Bits of buns spraying from his mouth like tiny bullets. "Whhaff if ift?" Push the conversation forward. If she was going to be a chatter mouth, then he could at least veer her in a direction that he didn't mind as much. He hadn't thought of an alias to go with in case of situations like this, so avoiding having to figure it out was the best bet.
Not waiting for his mouth to clear, he just continued to cram as much burger in his mouth as possible. True running after eating wouldn't be smart, but at this point he didn't care. It was warm and it was good. Nutrition, who needed that. Pile on the calories, he was sure to burn them off by the end of the day. "Mmfph." The art of food speech...Yeah, go ahead and figure that out school....wait...
Damn her, now he had to chew his food again, not in pleasure but in business now. "Youff school....whaff?" There was no way on earth she might have some connection to where he was heading, it was impossible. Though...his eyes drifted away as he watched his hands for a few moments. There was something about this Miss Taylor lady....something....different.

For a moment there, she was worried the kid would choke. He was wolfing down the burger like his life depended on it. Still, her words finally seemed to get through the instincts to his brain.
>>"Whhaff if ift? Mmfph. Youff school....whaff?"
"As I said" she srepeated with a small smile, once she made sure he was indeed asking a question and not fighting for air "I work in a school for mutants. Maybe you have heard of it before, it's called Xavier's. We have a lot of kids who find their way there, who have nowhere else to go. You are welcome to visit and see for yourself. Unless you have something against mutants, of course. That's one thing I can't look over."
It really was pretty much the only thing at this point. Besides, she was curious about all the uncomfortable squirming...
It wasn't every day that a teenage could quickly loose their appetite while eating McDonalds, especially a teen who was rather hungry. She had to be kidding him, there was no possible chance she could be talking about the very place he had been heading towards. This had to be a trick of sorts. He would be lured in by some salty fries and then find himself locked away to be experimented on like he was a frog in biology class.
The burger in his mouth had lost all flavor as it slithered its way down his throat. "You shitting me?" Inching a bit more towards the door, his eyes darted about her body. He couldn't see any cuffs or a stunner of sorts, but who knew what could be in her purse or glove compartment.
"How do I know you're not lying? Prove it." It was a risk, but he wasn't going to go blindly on what she had to say. He could pull any amount of crap from his backside She could be a wolf in sheep's clothing. There was no telling. Hell, if he was looking for mutants to round up and experiment on, he'd make sure someone would be sent out who could fool anyone.

>>"You shitting me? How do I know you're not lying? Prove it."
"If I wanted to shit you, I'd say anything but that." she smirked "And sorry, being substitute mother for half a hundred mutant kids is not a job you get an ID for."
Technically, officially, she did work at the Mansion. But there was no way she was going to prove that to the kid now. She was driving. Both hands on the wheel.
They were not far out though. Pretty soon the Mansion gates appeared, and the grounds behind them with the huge, shadowy building that was Xavier's. Gemma smirked as the gates opened. If he did not believe her before, he sure had to believe her now. She was not sure what legends he had heard before, but driving up through the main driveway was not an entrance you could make to a school full of mutants if you did not beling there.
"Welcome to Xavier's" she smirked "Believe me now?"
This was a change of pace, for once an adult, a supposed school staffer wasn't telling him to watch his mouth. Good thing, not that he would change it at all but still, it was just nice to know he didn't have to watch what he said. Controlling the the tongue during teen years was practically an impossible task. Profanities just seemed to be the only words that would ever work, and the most abundant in the vocabulary. Still, this was just...different.
As the car rounded the corners and continued down the road, he could see the vegetation change a bit as the rolling lands of the school came into focus. The gates were a laugh, something simple enough that he could easily get over. Good thing to know, at least he wouldn't have to feel confined at night The heavy metal gates looked rather fun, not something to climb through or over, but they were ornate. The drive had to be a trick, but as the gates opened and he found himself moving closer to the mansion, he couldn't help but wonder exactly what her cut was in all this.
"What are you?" Who didn't seem important now, he knew her so classed name at least. Miss Taylor or whatever. But what was she? Was she some mutant like him, but what could she do? There was something to her, more then met the eye. She might have fed him, but that didn't mean he trusted her, no not yet. "Some head playing one?" If she was in his head, oh she better not be. He didn't want anyone sharing his head space, not even some lady who picked him put and brought him there even after he had her at snow brush point. "Do mind trick, invade people's thoughts? "

>>"What are you? Some head playing one? Do mind trick, invade people's thoughts? "
Gemma chuckled as she parked the car in the garage. He was catching up. Being fed probably did a world of good to his thinking. The brain needs fuel too.
"Yes, but that's called being a woman" she grinned at him, not even trying to be serious "As for my powers, no. I am not even a mutant. I am an adapted, someone born with a special aura that cancels out mutant powers. Any other questions? Come on, it's getting late."
Walking around the car, she opened the tunk and started to gather the shopping bags. She wrinkled her nose as her arms were full; she was probably going to need to take several trips between the kitchen and the garage. But she was not going to ask the kid for help; they were not in that place yet...
With the car in the garage, he didn't have much choice of where he could go. Opening his door, he snagged the bag with the fries and one burger left in it. No need to have it go to waste. Slamming his door shut, mainly because he could, the teenager leaned against the hood of the car pulling fry after fry out munching on them. So this Taylor woman had the ability to fry out people's mutant powers, no wonder he got caught. Still getting stuck with her was way better then getting nailed by the police.
"So basically you are a bigger freak of nature, and you sit on your ass in the middle of a bunch of mutants to play school. That why you are here?" What kind of sick sadistic woman was she? If she had the ability to cancel out mutant powers, it was torture in a way. More mentally then physically at least in his sense. Making him think his powers weren't working any more and that his trip was pointless.
With the trunk of the car open, he didn't move at all from the car. She might have fed him, but he certainly wasn't her little servant boy. Her crap to carry, sure he might need something in a bag or two of those, but that didn't mean he was going to do anything yet. She was just a free ride right now along with a free meal. He didn't owe a damn thing to her, well maybe but he certainly wasn't going to do jack about it yet or possibly ever.
"That why you are the guidance counselor? To take the shit ass kids aside and nullify their powers so they can't do a damn thing?" With another fry in his mouth, Hokee jumped up to sit on the hood of the car. "Condescending career choice."

>>"So basically you are a bigger freak of nature, and you sit on your ass in the middle of a bunch of mutants to play school. That why you are here?"
Wow, he really did know everything, before she even told him. Sooo typical for a teenager. He made assumptions based on half sentences and ran with them. So sure he was right. So sure the worst case scenario was the real one. Gemma could see where that came from, and at the same time she wanted to smack him for it.
>>"That why you are the guidance counselor? To take the shit ass kids aside and nullify their powers so they can't do a damn thing? Condescending career choice."
Slamming the trunk shut with her elbow, she walked around the car, smirking at him. Kid had no limits. He also had nothing new to offer, as far as teenage ranting goes...
"I can't nullify powers at will. As I said, I have an aura. You stand inside it, you can't use your powers. You step outside it, you are fine. It's not like I can fit all the kids in the school into my personal space. And I can't turn it off either."
He seemed awfully curious for a human kid.
"Answering your question, I became a guidance counselor because mutants and school kids have one thing in common: they can save the world, but they can't do the laundry if it kills them. Someone needs to keep this school running. You know. Food and stuff." she nodded at the shoping bags in her arms and then started walking towards the door. It was up to him to follow. But she did have the food. And the promise of a warm room.
