The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Miri really hadn't been expecting to deal with the problems of a teenage girl today but really what the heck. At this point she would give anything to stop thinking about her wife... ex-wife's return to her life. About a week ago the blonde had shown up at her door and wanted to talk. Miri had told her no and slammed the door in her face. Hours later she got a message saying that Juliet was staying at the Waldorf and she would be there for the foreseeable future if Miri decided she wanted to talk. So far Miri had tried her best to ignore this fact, because she didn’t really want to talk, but somehow it just kept creeping back into the woman’s thoughts like a parasite. So, as you can guess, when Ami called Miri jumped at the chance to have the company of her favorite teenage girl. She had known Amelia Mellitus since she had baby sat the younger girl and her brother when Ami was a baby and Aurum was still too young to do it himself. Over all the time of knowing the girl Miri had kind of taken it upon herself to put Ami under her wing and keep an eye on her. Miri had a gun collection and was actually far more intimidating then the girl’s father so it worked out rather well. Though, when Ami had called saying she had a crisis Miri wasn’t expecting it to be quite so silly.
Miri tried very hard not to laugh but somehow she couldn’t stop herself from bursting out laughing at the silly idea of running a background check. Ami did realize that those things were not as easy as a click of a button. “Are you serious!? You want me to run a background check on some boy? What exactly did he do to warrant a background check?”

>>He kissed me. My first kiss. And then, he never called. I think he might be dead.
Miri couldn’t stop her left eyebrow as it rose and a smile crossed her face. She remembered the days when a kiss was the most important thing in the world. “He’s not dead trust me. Sometimes guys just don’t call.”
>>Please? I just want to know more.
“Ami doing a background check isn’t something I can just do because I feel like it. I need a reason to check into someone. I need to have what is called probable cause.” Miri looked Ami straight in the eyes and looked serious, “Is there something you’re not telling me?”

>>I just need a favor.
Miri could see the seriousness in Ami’s face. It really was that important to her. Maybe the woman could find a reason to look into him. She just needed to think of one. Maybe Ami could help with that.
>>Can't you just... make something up?
“I need to make something up that I can back up if I have to. Can you tell me anything you know about him.”
"Well..." She began, head heavy with the hard-thinking. "He said he's been in a few scrapes before... has broken his nose more than once, and... he said he was a member of the X-men, so..."
"So I guess that would be something you could look into?" She quested.

“I would love to use being an X-man as a reason to be able to look into someone but is there any odd behavior or anything you have seen from him? Maybe weird meetings or phone calls that could have given you cause to come to me?” Tires to hint to the girl knowing she should be smart enough to get it.
"Um. Yeah." Amelia lied. "Yeah. Real shifty stuff. So, can you help me?"
She would feel so guilty, if Miri hadn't been hinting at lying. She hated lying. And liars. It would be totally unfair to Gawain to get this sort of information through deception. Even if she needed to know.

“Depends on the shifty. Odd phone calls? Weird meetings or behaviors? Shifty characters associated with the kid? Give me specifics I can tell me boss if asked why I did this.” Miri didn’t budge or move to indicate she was going for her computer in any way. She needed to cover her bases if she was going to do this, even if every fiber of her being was telling her no. She had always been a by the book agent. Bending the rules to her whim but never breaking them. She was most certainly not going to let a teenager make her break them now. She was going to force what she needed to have probable cause out of this girl if it was the last thing she did. She loved this girl but not enough to lose her job because Ami decided to be a hormonal teenager for once. He didn’t like making the girl lie but she was going to have to if she really wanted Miri to do this. Especially since Miri was kind of hoping that making her lie would make her back down.
Maybe she was mistaken? The woman was not backing down or going with the lie.
But... she really liked Gawain. Like... she'd dated boys before, but with them, there had been peaks of fun, and peaks of annoying. And really, everything had just been spiky. But with Gawain... two dates had told her a lot. With him, it had been this sort of constant high. So... she had an excuse for continuing the lie.
"Shifty character. Weird meetings. I don't know much, but there was this guy. I think he might be dangerous." She lied vaguely, completely unaware of the fact that there had been a shifty character. That Gawain had been involved in weird meetings. That there was this dangerous guy. And she wouldn't remember the lie to connect the pieces, after she'd told. It was just that kind of lie.
"So, can you help me?" She repeated again, seriously. Her voice wavered slightly with emotion. Amelia met Miri's gaze, unfaltering. She would not back down.

Miri listened tentatively as the girl lied right to her face. She knew it was a lie but if the girl wanted this done Miri wasn’t going to risk her job over this and really this gave her an excuse to look into a member of the X-Men; something that she welcomed with open arms. Ever since her partner had gone AWOL all those years ago in that mutant, homo-superior, crap of an organization, Miri had never liked them. All they really did was brainwash mutants into thinking they were the next generation of human and normal humans were irrelevant. Oh how wrong they were. They may have been evolution but they were still part of a world where the normal humans outweighed the mutated ones. Miri wasn’t anti mutant by any means. Her brothers were actually both mutants, but she was most certainly anti mutant organizations and everything they stood for. They just created what she considered to be an unnecessary separation.
>>So, can you help me?
She didn’t say anything as she got up and walked into the bedroom. It only took her but a moment to locate and retrieve her target before moving back to take a seat at the dining table and set up her work laptop. “It is going to take some time for the computer to compile all the information from every database to make a full background check. But I can say that when it finished tomorrow I will be out of the apartment and the computer will be open.” Miri waited for it to boot before opening the correct program, “So what is his full name again?”
"Check the mansion directory for a 'Gawain'. He lives there. It shouldn't be too hard to find the full name in the residents list." She didn't know any other way to track him. He hadn't told her his last name.
Deep down somewhere, the lack of a last name up front was worrying. But, then, she didn't go around telling people she met her full name without a reason, so the worry went unnoticed. It just fell back with all the other worries about Gawain.

Miri looked up from the computer screen and turned to face Ami. “Are you really telling me that you are asking me to not only do an unauthorized background check but to hack into school records to find this kid? The schools records are not something I can just access.” She stopped and took a deep breath trying to calm down, “Ami just because I am in the FBI doesn’t mean I have access to every person’s personal information. I can’t just pull things up at a whim.”
"Not school records. Mansion directory. Someone should be able to let you know who lives there." This was ridiculous. Couldn't someone do that? "Hold on."
Fine. She supposed she could.
Man, why did she feel like Miri was attacking her? It wasn't like this had been done on a whim or something. She was seriously worried. The guy'd fought a jerk for her and gotten his nose broken. That showed what kind of person he was. Both the gallant kind, and the kind that took unnecessary risks. It wasn't even a 'might be'. He probably was in trouble. ... And if he was just ditching her, he most certainly was.
Amelia finished dialing on her cellphone. She held it up. Waited as the call connected. Click. Someone answered.
"Full Circle Book store. Ask us about new releases! This is Betsy. How can I help you?"
"Hey." She said. "This is Ami. Can you see if Shin's around?"
A moment of silence. Some hushed voices. Then, a familiar voice took over. "Hello?"
"Hey, Shin. Would you happen to know Gawain's last name?"
"Why?" He asked.
"No reason. Just curious."
"Um." There was another moment of silence. Then, Shin said, slightly awkwardly. "Hold on. I'll call you back." He hung up.
"... Kay."
Amelia sighed, looking to Miri at her laptop. She mouthed a 'sorry'. "He's making me wait."
