The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>"I am a bit of a hopeless romantic. It can be a problem."
"Yeah, tell me about it." Maya smirked. Not so long ago, she didn't even know what being a romantic meant. She was still not sure if she qualified as one or not. It was hard to play all perfect and lovely when you have so basic things to deal with as a daily gender shift. Still, she tried, at least.
>>"I've got it! We need a metal bucket for the hot ashes to fall into but I can burn them in my hands without running a risk of lighting the room on fire if I am careful. Do you know anything we could use?"
"Yeah, I think we can find one of those big metal bowls in the storage room" Maya nodded, then grinned "So, we're burning a piano? Cool."
>>"Somehow I think the gods of music are going to kill me for this, but yes we are further burning a piano."
"That would be such a waste." Maya grinned at Kate "I bet they like you."
She'd never been really close to said gods. She was more of a dancer, and even though that came with rythm and style, she was pretty sure she couldn't carry a tune herself even if she tried. It was like that weird cuddly tone-deaf penguin in that movie. (Where the hell she watched that? Don't ask.)
>>"Take this and make sure the ash falls into is please."
"Aye aye ma'am" Maya nodded with a grin, holding the bowl ready "Do your thing."
>>That would be such a waste. I bet they like you. Aye aye ma'am, Do your thing.
Kate removed her gloves and picked up an almost fully intact leg.
"What do you mean they like me? I just play the piano."
Kate placed her palms on the top and bottom of the leg so her hands were facing each other. She stared straight at the center of the pole, focusing on her fire hitting that point. She could feel her hands heat up as fire slowly formed in her palms. The fire was the same bright white as the fireball that had hit the piano in the first place. The fire traveled down the stick meeting at the designated point the pole burning up quickly in Kate's hands.
Kate was eventually left with black hands charred from ash and the remnants of the pole left smoking in the bowl. Kate picked up another piece and started the process again.
Maya smirked, and helt the bowl, making sure no ash or sparks fell to the floor - would have been a shame to set the room on fire. With all that said, Kate's ability looked very...
"You know, that power you have there, it's pretty amazin'" she grinned as more parts of the piano disappeared into ashes "Classic awesome superhero stuff." she said, and she meant it "I know I know, it comes with all the flaws, but... still."
Once the piano was all cremated and bagged, Maya wiped her hands on her sweater.
"Well, I think that's all. Now the only clue people might notice is the fact that there is a, well, a piano missing from the music room..."
>>You know, that power you have there, it's pretty amazin'. Classic awesome superhero stuff. I know I know, it comes with all the flaws, but... still.
Kate smiled she had never thought of her powers as anything other then a burden, "Thank you."
Kate ashed the last of the wood and it was passed into a bag by Maya.
>>Well, I think that's all. Now the only clue people might notice is the fact that there is a, well, a piano missing from the music room...
"I think I can fix that." Kate looked at the clock and it was already after 6 and she needed to eat before they could possible go on a search, "Well it is to late now but we can go into the city tomorrow and get a new one if you are up for it. By what the driver was telling me on the way from the airport, this city has everything."

"Suure" Maya arched an eyebrow. They'd just go out, and buy a new piano. Really, why not. It was not like Maya had never bought anything even remotely as expensive as a piano before. But if Kate was paying, why the heck not.
"Sounds like a plan" she grinned "And yeah, it really has everything. And then some." she chuckled "All right, Kate, let's take out the garbage, and then we'll meet up tomorrow."
And so, the old piano in the music room was gone forever, ashes to ashes. The only thing left to do was to hope no one would notice...
