The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>All right. Let's get some boxes and bags from the storage room and clean up what we can, and we'll go from there. You don't have to use your powers if you don't want to.
"That sounds like a great idea. If there isn't much we can make a controled fire in a bucket or something to ash the rest." The thought of having to burn the beautiful thing again was paining but it had to be done, "Lead the way."
Maya grinned, and lead Kate down the corridor towards the storage room. It was always full of empty boxes, garbage bags, and various tools for cleaning up the mess students accidentally made around the school. There were quite a few mutations that wre capable of creating a lot of mess in a short period of time.
"All right, grab these" Maya said as she piled a few empty boxes into each other, and grabbed a pile of garbage bags "Let's go."
On the way back to the music room, she decided to retur to their previous topic.
"So... do you like it here? Or would you rather go back to England?"
Kate followed Maya to the storeroom and took the boxes as instructed. On their way back she got posed and interesting question.
>>So... do you like it here? Or would you rather go back to England?
Kate had to think about this one. She hadn't been here very long, but part of her felt right here.
"I suppose it is a little bit of both. As long as my mother stays in that house there will always be a part of me that wants to be there with her. For her. But I do like it here. It's freeing. I can finally read books that weren't approved on a list or learn the rest of history. I get to make my own decisions. Well for the most part anyway. I'm not to happy with Mr. Johnson for making me attend classes. They are teaching things I already learned."
Kate walked into the music room and put the boxes down in a corner before grabbing one of them and starting to load some of the chunky pieces into them.
>>"I suppose it is a little bit of both... I'm not to happy with Mr. Johnson for making me attend classes. They are teaching things I already learned."
"I hear ya" Maya grinned, sweeping ashes and pieces of wood into a garbage bag "He tried that on me too. I tend to skip classes though. And then I end up spending twice as much time in the danger room. If I didn't know the guy I'd think he's tryin' to kill me."
She was smiling as she said that; she really enjoyed training, even though it usually made her hurt in places she didn't even know she had.
"Some classes are fun though. And I need to finish high school sooner or later, I guess. Although I've got no idea what I wanna do after that." she glanced up at Kate "How 'bout you?"
Kate thought on this a moment. Her education had been lacking in certain places and she knew it. What did she want to do?
"In all truth the thought never occurred to me. I never thought I would be aloud to have a career and life outside of Kirby Hall. I never even though I would get past the gate. I mean I dreamed about it, but dreaming and doing are different things. If she hadn't forced me to leave I would still be there and wouldn't even be making this decision."
Kate starred off into space for a moment, finally realizing how much in her life had changed in only a matter of weeks. She actually had options. She could live the life she had always dreamed about. She could see the world.
The question was did she want to? She knew her mother hadn't locked her away for no good reason. Could she face the fears that were forming the longer she was away from Kirby Hall alone?
>>"In all truth the thought never occurred to me. I never thought I would be aloud to have a career and life outside of Kirby Hall. If she hadn't forced me to leave I would still be there and wouldn't even be making this decision."
"Well, maybe that's why she sent you here. To make your own choices." Maya nodded, filling up another garbage bag "And if it makes you feel better, I've got no idea either what I wanna do after high school. This is the first time in my life that I actually go to school. Before that, Mom home schooled me." she smiled "So far it's just good not having to live on the streets, and doing the X training. I think I'll figure out the rest later." she looked up at Kate "Don't worry about your future too much." she grinned "At least, not until we've finished cleaning up."
"Living on the streets?" Apparently the two had grown up in two extremes. The same but very different. While she had a posh home filled with anything she could possible need, Maya grew up out there with just her mother. Kate had never thought about the horrible situations people were in in her books could be real, but really the ideas had to come from somewhere didn't they? If not from real life then where? If a person could dream it up for a story why not dream it up to inflict it on a person. Kate shuttered at the thought of what else might be on in this whole new world.
Kate filled up another box while she waited for an answer. They were half way through the pile it seemed. Very soon she was goign to have to figure out how to get rid of the big pieces and was dreading it.
Oh, great, sharing time. Maya kept working on cleaning up as she talked. She didn't mind talking about her past; it was usually a good way to get other people talking about theirs.
"Yeah. Mom went missing when I was thirteen. Since I'm a mirrorwalker an' all that... I lived by myself while I was lookin' for her. I ended up here... 'bout a year ago." she said, picking up pieces of wood "I didn't actually... live on the streets, as much as I... lived in mirrors." she added. Maxine had thought s/he was some kind of hobo already, and she didn't want Kate to think the same. "Being a mutant made it kinda easier, and harder, at the same time."
>>Being a mutant made it kinda easier, and harder, at the same time.
"I agree with that. I know that going to a school like the one my parents went to would have been hard with all my restrictions. The temperatures for sleeping. The energy release. I would have scared all the students or accidentally set the school on fire. It could have been a disaster."
>>"I agree with that. I know that going to a school like the one my parents went to would have been hard with all my restrictions. The temperatures for sleeping. The energy release. I would have scared all the students or accidentally set the school on fire. It could have been a disaster."
"I hear ya" Maya nodded "Being a boy one day and a girl the next was not ideal for formal education either..." she chuckled, and turned to look at Kate.
"Then again, you're fire. That is all kinds of awesome. And from what I heard about normal schools, you didn't miss out on all that much." she grinned "Cheerleading uniforms, maybe."
It was true. While Mom was around, Mirror enjoyed studying very much, and the excitement still stayed with her after she was left alone. She did not mind being home schooled one bit.
"I kinda learned by myself, after I was left alone" she added "I think it can work just as well as sitting in a classroom. You just gotta find the right books."
"Well my education is extensive. I am actually ahead of most of the classes I have been put in. Not all though. I had tutors and no vacations. I loved my educations growing up. I got to learn what I wanted when I wanted, for the most part. I got to explore things in a way I would have never done in traditional schools." Kate tossed the last big piece into the bag that Maya was holding, "I meant more the social aspects. I barely know how to act around people my own age."
"Isn't that fun, exploring things" Maya muttered with a grin. She'd explored many things in the name of education. Most of them were not really legally exactly allowed to be explored. She did it anyway. They put mirrors there, they were the only ones to blame.
>> "I meant more the social aspects. I barely know how to act around people my own age."
"You'll pick up on that" she said, tying the bag up "It's not all that hard. And many muties have the same problem, trust me. Like, take me for an example. Took me forever to start admitting my mutation to people, and it still gets weird at times. The boy-girl thing, I mean." she smirked "It took months for my girlfriend to come to terms with that."
"I hate my mutation to tell you the truth. I live like I am walking on egg shells all the time. I have to watch what I touch, what I do, what I wear. I could seriously hurt myself if I mess up once. If I'm not dressed properly I can get hypothermia from walking through the snow. I can't get things out of a fridge without gloves. I have never even had cold food before. Room temp yes but not cold. I am terrified that if I found the right person and got married they couldn't even sleep in the same room with me because of my temperature restrictions." Kate kicked at the ashes, All I want is to be normal. Even if it is only for a day, I want to be able to play outside during the winder after a snow storm and walk around outside when it is 20 degrees without having to look like I live in Greenland. You get it right?"
>>" All I want is to be normal. Even if it is only for a day, I want to be able to play outside during the winder after a snow storm and walk around outside when it is 20 degrees without having to look like I live in Greenland. You get it right?"
"Why on earth would you wanna be normal?" Maya smiled, putting the bag as she walked over to Kate "You were born special. Many people would give an arm and a leg to be like you." she chuckled "Also, it all comes down to chosing the right guy, really. For example" she said "I've met people who cancel out mutant powers when you go near them. Find one of those, and you can have your snow fight." she looked at Kate with a smile for a while, before she turned more seirous. "You are in the best place possible now. You mother really wanted that for you. Not to be alone."
"I am a bit of a hopeless romantic. It can be a problem." Kate chuckled and looked at the pile when it struck her what to do, "I've got it! We need a metal bucket for the hot ashes to fall into but I can burn them in my hands without running a risk of lighting the room on fire if I am careful. Do you know anything we could use?"
