The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"I'll give the Sanctuary a quick call then. Is the desk girl still Lisa?" Who was she kidding. Ghost had never seen anyone else man the desk there. Ever. Ghost slipped her cell phone out of her pocket and stepped into the living room for at least perceived privacy. It all sounded very routine. Mhmm. Yep. She would bring Kaitlyn back tonight after dinner.
From the kitchen chandelier light glinted off cold, hard steel. A droplet oozed down the pommel and dripped electric orange onto the cutting board. Jude wiped the carrot juice away and dumped the knobby chopped carrots into a waiting bowl.
"A telepath is ze most powerful of mutants. Zey can read ze mind. Can even control some sings about ze mind if powerful enough. Zis is what I will grow up to be."
He stuck his tongue out and focused on cutting the next carrot. The pieces were not even by any stretch of the imagination, but Jude seemed pleased with his work.

"Yep." It would be hard to imagine a Sanctuary without Lisa and her desk. And her $100 refillable pen that Kaitlyn was under no circumstances allowed to touch. "Lisa's a mutant who works at the Sanctuary and can clone herself," she informed Jude helpfully after Ghost had left. "She can do more that way."
Jude was talking about telepaths. Blue tongues of flame licked the bottom of the pot as Kaitlyn dropped in the last chunk of yellow stuff. "Being a telepath sounds a lot better than... 'kablam.'"
"Wait... how do you know what kind of mutant you're gonna be?" she asked Jude with an incredulous tone. "Can't you only find out when your mutation starts doing stuff?"
"I know because I was in ze future." And that was really all he needed as proof. "Why would I not be ze same man I grew up to be once already?"
After finishing her phone conversation Ghost flitted back into the room first checking on the sauce— Kaitlyn seemed to have things well in hand —before going and collecting the bowl of carrots and her few chopped potatoes and dumping those into the pot. That should make Kaitlyn's job more interesting. After Jude finished his last carrot Ghost snuck a potato his way before she got down to more of her own chopping.
"Zat future will not happen." He continued in his way. "But I don't sink zat is any reason for me not to be a psychic. I already know how to use ze power. Anysing else would be a cruel twist of fate."
"Better than the gulf stream collapsing."
"And better zan Haywire virus." It was clear from the resulting fist bump that they had both been in the same future.
"This future looks much brighter don't you think, Kaitlyn?"
Pretty soon Ghost was sending Jude to dump the last of the potatoes in the pot and starting an electric rice cooker. By the smell of things, dinner wasn't too far away.

Jude visited the future? Haywire virus? Gulf stream collapsing? Kaitlyn stared at the other two, stirring sauce absentmindedly as she tried to comprehend what she was hearing.
>>"This future looks much brighter don't you think, Kaitlyn?"
The wooden spoon could be heard scraping against the edge of the metal pot, interrupted by the staccato of knives colliding with the cutting board. Kaitlyn kept looking at Ghost and Jude in silence as if the "guardian" had never asked a question.
"Uhh..." she finally began, "You were in the future!? How!? What happens in the future? And what's the Haywire virus?"
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
Jude scooted into place next to Kaitlyn the pot stirrer. He was dutiful in dumping the veggies into the curry sauce. He only had to pick up 9 or 10 lost pieces.
There was only one important question in there so Jude only answered one. "Haywire waz a product of one of New York's mutant gang. It waz a virus zat changed and made a lot of mutant sick. It doesn't exist any more."
"The best part about seeing the future, is learning what to change in the past." It was all kinds of time continuity brain breaking, but she wasn't a time cop nor did she have a time mutation or a single shred of guilt about destroying the virus. Things were better in the here and now.
Ghost peered into the sink at the lost vegetable pieces and sighed her lament before peering into the pot. It was decently full and only needed to simmer with the lid on for a bit. "Can you two help me set the table?"
The curry was lidded and Ghost reached up for plates, which went to Jude, and napkins and spoons, which went to Kaitlyn. "What do you sink you will be when you are grown?"

As Kaitlyn understood it, some kind of evil mutant gang made a virus that made other mutants sick, but because Ghost and Jude could travel through time somehow, they were able to stop it from spreading and saved the world. That 'mutant gang' was probably gone, too. Unless it still existed, and Lori's secret organization was secretly fighting against it. There were a lot of things about Lori's secret organization that Kaitlyn still didn't know, such as their name, but virus-spreading mutant gangs sounded like something that Lori would want to work against.
Still, the incredibly important questions of how they could travel through time and what happened there remained. Surely, now that Jude had explained that virus thing, one of them would start explaining this part.
>>"Can you two help me set the table?"
Maybe they would talk about it while they were setting the table. Spoons soon found their proper homes on the right side of each plate that Jude set down. It was a small, quiet table, and a small, quiet group of people to eat dinner with, for one accustomed to the Sanctuary's chaos.
>>"What do you sink you will be when you are grown?"
"I'm going to be a super hero," Kaitlyn announced confidently. "There are these people at the Sanctuary that -- ah, I mean... I'm not supposed to talk about it. But I'm going to be a super-hero."
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
Ghost hesitated with the Rice pot hovering just over the table's surface when she heard Kaitlyn. "Oh sweety." She knew Kaitlyn was living there but not that she'd been indoctrinated too. Ghost set down the rice and stabbed the spoon into its stickiness. The spoon stood straight up. "There are a lot of people who live at the Sanctuary with good hearts, but they have really mixed up ideas about how to be a hero."
When Ghost left to get a trivet and the heavier soupy, she looked concerned. Jude just looked shrewd.
"I'm going to be a hero too." He whispered in all confidence to his cohort, but kept one eye on Ghost's back as she scurried for another spoon. "Since we'll both be heroes, can't you tell me about your Sanctuary?" He smiled hopefully and showed off a single dimple.
This close in, Jude noticed that Kaitlyn had decidedly fewer freckles than he did. He retracted his smile.

Kaitlyn nodded slightly; she thought she knew exactly what Ghost was talking about: Aura. Defending Amber from a bunch of armed thugs was heroic, but the way Aura did it made Kaitlyn feel sick just thinking about it.
Aura probably wasn't a member of Lori's team, anyway. Hopefully.
>>"... can't you tell me about your Sanctuary?"
The redhead hesitated, looking into Jude's eyes how a deer would look into a pair of headlights. She knew that he wasn't just asking about her new home, but she didn't want to say 'no' to her new friend.
"I'd have to make sure I could trust you, first," she whispered.
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
"How would you do zat?" Blood bond? Spit shake? He could prove his worth!
Ghost returned and Jude sat up as if he hadn't just been leaning in as a conspirer. Nope. No plotting here. Except that Jude glanced over at Kaitlyn. Just to let her know that he was already keeping her secrets... despite the fact that he had none yet.

How would she do that?
"Uhh... hmm..." Kaitlyn made herself look thoughtful until Ghost was just about to return, at which point she whispered "I'll think about it." It was certainly better than admitting that she didn't know. Jude was cool, and telepathy sounded useful.
Maybe she could ask Lori about this later...
The redhead turned to Ghost and smiled an entirely unsuspicious smile. Ghost seemed to know about the Sanctuary's secret, but she didn't seem to approve of it. If Kaitlyn wanted Jude to get involved with the Sanctuary, this guardian would have to stay out of the loop. Time to change the subject.
"So, what's the future like?"
