The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Koga found him self in the Bronx, he'd been patrolling, because he did that in spite of learning time and again that when you go looking for trouble, you find it, and if you're like him and you find trouble ,you fight it, tooth and nail, fist and claw and spikes. With everything you've got.
That said. He was sitting in the Bronx on a bench under a broken street lamp in front of the sanctuary. what would happen if he found trouble here, it was a factory for the stuff, and frankly there were several mutants in the place that were just out of his league.Oddly enough it was quiet here, no trouble, not so much as hearing a curse word out of the people walking by. something was up with this place, and he didn't know what.
Koga set on the bench with his skin a scaly shade of obsidian and flame orange hair, a bright white and blue jump suit and hoodie, bare feet and hands. what would really get him in trouble though, was the bright blue X on his back.
Maybe he would see a therapist when he got home, he was pretty sure, he had some sort of death wish.
Amber had spent the last hour trying to figure out how to change into a dinosaur. She sat in her room, thinking as hard as she possibly could, about the growing of claws and feathers, the sharpening of teeth and the elongating of tail. Unfortunately, no matter how hard she thought, nothing seemed to be coming of it. Not so much as a single scale or feather appeared and her little human nails were just as dull as they ever had been. Not only was her current effort a complete failure, but to make matters worse she was also starting to develop a headache.
With an unhappy and frustrated sigh Amber decided that the things she needed to do was go out for a bit of fresh air. It was night, her favorite time because of the absence of the dangerous and painful sun. She donned her cloak but saw no need to put her veil on. Because it was night she didn't need to protect her skin and who was going to come around Sanctuary late at night to bother her anyway?
Quietly Amber closed opened and closed the golden doors of Sanctuary and took a deep breath of the cool night air. She froze, almost immediately, spotting a very strange mutant sitting on the bench in front of the building, someone she most certainly would have recognized had he lived inside the building. It wasn't the obsidian skin, flame orange hair or even the scales that caused her to freeze in place. Nor was it the bright blue X on his back, a symbol she neither recognized nor cared about. It was his black eyes, so very similar to her own that caused her to lose her breath and simply stare. "Y-you're like m-me." The words were tinged with wonder and she barely even realized that she had spoken them out loud.
Koga sat up strait and prepared himself mentally for whatever might be walking out those doors...at least he thought he had prepared himself. He wasn't at all prepared for the pale little thing that walked out where he knew red giants dwelt. She could have been just as dangerous though and probably was. He sat up and turned toward her.
Koga tilted his head slightly and nodded. I could be more like you, if you want. he changed his skin to a pale that matched the white of his jump suit and his hair paled to the color that old age brings with wisdom, such a colorless purity that screamed touch me I'm soft.
I'm Ryuichi Koga, nice to meet you. Ssso you live at the Sssanctuary?
Amber jumped back, startled at the unexpected change of colour of the scaled boy. She really should have been getting used to strange mutants with strange powers by now, living among them as she was, but she was still new to the whole mutant thing and colour changing was a first for her.
"Y-you ch-change colour." Yes, Amber was stating the obvious and yes, the Koga mutant probably was well aware of the fact that he changed colour, but she just couldn't help herself. She took a tentative step forward to get a better look, then stopped herself. What if he was dangerous and didn't want some stranger staring at him like he was some kind of freak? She certainly didn't like when people stared at her like she was some kind of freak so why should she just assume that other people felt different.
"I-I'm so s-sorry," Amber said apologetically, returning her eyes to stare at the ground. "I d-din't mean to s-stare." She was certain she would never get this whole mutant politeness thing right.
"I'm Amber. N-nice to meet you. Yes, I live in S-Sanctuary. Where d-do you l-live?" Oops, probably another question she wasn't supposed to ask. She scuffed the ground with her shoe.
Wow!, he hadn't ever had someone jump back at him just using his chameleon skills, he felt a certain amount safer then he had moments before. "Yeah, I change colorsss, everything but my eyesss." He said with a bit of a stretch, letting a certain amount of the stress out of his previously tensed muscles. Oh, don't worry about it, if you were ssstaring it wasss my fault for ssshowing off. Nice to meet you too, Amber. Um, I live at Xavier's sister school. he tensed waiting for a bit of shock or outrage. when he found only curiosity he was pleased. You want me to change to sssomething elssse lessss copy cat-isssh? you pick! it was always fun to indulge someone else challenge. he knew he could meet it whatever it was. he hopped up from the bench, not even thinking that the shy honest girl could be part of some wicked trap.
Well, Koga didn't seem mad at her for staring. He didn't yell at her or try to attack her or anything else that sounded rather unpleasant. In fact, he actually seemed...happy that he had been staring? Well that was certainly something new. Maybe Aura and Abyss had been right when the told her that some mutants were proud of looking different. Maybe she really should consider embracing her unique features rather than always wishing they would just go away.
"Is X-Xavier's school a school for m-mutants?" Amber asked hopefully. She had meant to ask Abyss if she could go back to school or if he could find her a teacher but so far she didn't have one and she missed learning stuff. Maybe if there was a mutant school she might not be constantly shunned for her eyes and skin.
"Can you change into a d-dinosaur?" Amber asked. Maybe if he could change into a dinosaur or even a dinosaur printed skin he could show her how to do so. That would certainly help matters out.
Yeah, itsss a ssschool for mutantsss! we learn all sssortsss of ssstuff there. and itsss neat, you go at your own pace and control your ssschedule and what you want to learn, if you are interesssted in art then they let you bassse your ssstudiesss around that, of courssse there are basssicsss, but they don't pusssh it beyond what is ussseful.
Koga shook his head but then laughed. Um, no, not in the sssince that you mean anyway. I can chancge colorsss not ssshapesss. but, I dunno I guess eventually I might very much be like a dinosuar, my genes are pushing me toward a reptilian hybrid. I'm already cold blooded, and I have quite a few reptilian abilities, so I guess I might eventually, but I probably won't be changing back.
Amber longed to go to a school like that, one that would help her learn and be accepting of the fact she was a mutant. It seemed too good to be true, but then a lot of things in her life now seemed to good to be true and so far those bubbles hadn't burst. She wondered if Abyss would let her go to school there, but he had said she could do whatever she wanted so surely that must include going to school, right?
"D-do they let n-new students in?" The longing Amber felt was almost painful. She loved everything about Sanctuary and she loved her new family more than anything, but all she was missing was a place to go and learn. As much as she was enchanted by the library, books could only go so far. "I d-don't have a teacher here b-but I'm a good student."
Listening to Koga describe how his power worked, she wondered if her own dinosaur forms were cold blooded since she hadn't really been transformed long enough to find out. She remembered reading, though, that they were supposed to be warm blooded, weren't they? Except for the ones with the big fins on their back? "D-do you like l-looking like a reptile?" She couldn't help but be curious. "I c-can turn into d-dinosaurs, except I d-don't really know h-how it works yet." She was asking questions so it only seemed fair she offer a bit of information in exchange. Plus, she liked the lizard boy. He seemed nice.
“Yeah, they let new ssstudentsss in, we even have dormsss and everything if you were interesssted in that. I can appreciate that, I push my ssself pretty hard at my ssstudiesss. Um, thing is that sssometimesss the sanctuary and the ssschool act like Rivalsss. But if you wanted to come, we wouldn’t hold it againssst you, I’m not asss sssure about them.” he put his hands up in surrender. I mean that literally, not in an accusssatory form, I really don’t know what they’d think. It’d be kind of neat to have a connection, if they don’t want you too and you ssstill want to learn, I could tutor you. Or if you’d prefer a tutor. he shrugged.
Yeah, its ok, I mean if I get stuck that way, I think it’ll put a damper on any romantic interests, but not much to be done about it I guess. Really? Thatsss pretty impressssive!
He put a finger to his lips. How did it happen before? There are ssstudies that ssshow that the xgene ressspondsss to sssubconsssciousss and the sssubconsssciousss ressspondsss to your needsss. I am guessing that you’d probably have to be in danger or sssomething for it to kick in, from there it will become easssier to make happen on your own. Koga walks from the bench closing a bit of the distance between them.
We could try and see, if you want. Are you afraid of anything?
"W-why are they rivals?" Amber asked. The thought that those in Sanctuary were considered the bad guys didn't even enter her mind. Everyone had been so nice to her since she had first arrived, even if Aura had killed someone but as disturbing as that was, it had been self defense. "B-but they wouldn't m-mind if I enrolled?" Such hope, especially if, as promised, they could help teach her how to use her powers too. "N-no one hear is a t-teacher. There aren't m-many children." So far the only younger mutants she had met were Aura and Kaityln and Aura didn't have any interest in school.
"I th-think you're c-cute." She said the words to make him feel better about his situation then proceeded to blush horribly as she realized it was true. Why did she constantly say and do so many stupid things that she couldn't take back? Maybe she should just sew her mouth shut to fix any other unfortunate comments from coming out. She wished, suddenly, that she could disappear like Koga and just blend into the background.
"It was s-scary," Amber replied of the question of when her mutation had developed. She shuddered at the memory of it. "S-some men tried to k-kill my s-sister. I h-hid under a table and K-Kaitylen exploded s-something. Then b-before I knew it, I ch-changed." Another shudder at the memory before she decided to sit on the bench, hands placed in her lap.
"I w-was afraid of n-not having any powers," Amber tried answer honestly. "And j-just being a b-black eyed freak who c-couldn't go into the s-sun. B-but then I learned I h-had powers so I'm n-not sure." She was afraid of people staring at her and picking on her but that seemed like such a stupid fear that she wasn't going to bring it up.
Koga was concerned about the girl, so innocent and in such a potentially violent home. Well mossstly I think it ssstemsss from, both of the placesss view on the world. From what I can tell.” He was attempting to be diplomatic. The sssanctuary tendsss to feel that mutantsss are born to rule the world. And are willing to do pretty much whatever to make it happen, but then I don’t ssstay here, ssso I can’t sssay that everyone here feelsss that way. He then adds. The ssschool isss more about proving that there isss plenty of ssspace for everyone on earth, that mutantsss aren’t bad. Or even all that different. At leassst in here. he tapped his head and then his chest.
Koga swallowed, He was used to being on the other side of admiration. I think you are pretty too. his eyes glued probably on the same ground that she was looking at. A moment passed and then she was speaking again, which was a bit of a relief. He took a breathe and tried to reassure himself, it wasn’t a bad thing to simply agree that they found each other attractive was it?
Koga’s Jaw clenched at the story. I’m sssorry that happened to you.Koga said geniuinely, he then assumed that this Kaitly was Ambers sister.{b] I am glad you and your sister made it out ok. Tried meant they hadn’t succeded.
He nodded. I underssstand, but sssee my point, thingsss were exploding and ssscumbagsss were trying to kill people you care about, ssso your body resssponded. I was hoping you had a fear of say spiders or something that I could spook you into shifting with. He held up his hand and arm showing her a patch of black skin on his pale white that looked and moved like a two’d spider. you think you can imagine you are in danger enough to make it happen? When my genesss activated, it wasss in my sssleep,my skin was changing to the colors of my bed sheets. My dad woke me up with a cop in my room and jumped on him and conssstricted my arms til he wasss out cold. After leaving my home I ended up at the ssschool.
The idea of mutants ruling the world seemed a little funny to Amber and she couldn't' believe what he was saying about anyone in Sanctuary actually feeling that way. Then again, she hadn't really met many people there yet so maybe the bad ones were the ones she just hadn't run into. She'd have to be careful then, just in case, because those types sounded dangerous. "Th-they aren't all b-bad," she informed Koga. She had a family now and it was up to her to defend their good names. "I g-got adopted and m-my adopted f-father has helped me s-so much. H-he s-said I should be p-proud of being a mutant." Proud was definitely not related to any concept of ruling the world. Proud was good.
When Koga returned the compliment and called her pretty, Amber was pretty sure she couldn't' possibly blush any more than she was all ready. Her cheeks, she knew, must surely be lit up like christmas tree ornaments. "Th-thanks you K-Koga. N-No one's ever called me p-pretty before." Now that certainly did make her sound pathetic, as if it couldn't get any worse.
"I d-don't think I w-want p-people to start a-attacking you," Amber said, slightly horrified by the idea. "M-maybe something else can m-make my power work?" She was grateful at the change in topic. Anything was better than having an excuse to embarrass herself even further.
"M-maybe you c-could show me the s-school?" Amber's voice held a great deal of hope, though the hope was tentative. After all, at any moment he could realize just how much of a loser she was and how much he didn't want to spend any time with her. "If y-your not b-busy that is." Another uncertain look at her feet.
Koga nodded to the fact that they all weren’t bad. It had to be true on some level. “Yeah, I thought asss much. I am sssure that the xmen are probably ssstero typically thought of as naive and ssspinelesss, but not everyone there isss jussst trying to placate everyone either. If we had a crack at who ever attacked you and your sssissster I am sssure they wouldn’t be too happy about it either.”
She was already red but he couldn’t help himself. itsss not hard to pay a compliment when it isss true.
if you go to the ssschool, they have a training room where there are sssafe sssimulationsss, that ssseem ssso real, it’d probably be able to help you learn hot to control them.
Yeah! That sssoundsss great! I’m not bussy at all, we can catch a busss or a cab if you like. he started to turn and get ready to look for cabs, but there wasn’t a single one around. Must be the neighborhood. wait, ssshould you tell sssomeone where you are heading or anything? that felt hypocritical, he simply left his monitor on and his door unlocked, if they looked for him in there, on his screen they would find the words, I’m trying to keep the world safe back by morning, if not, check my answering machine. Which was sitting right next to his desk.
"M-my sister s-saved us," Amber said proudly. She was pretty much the luckiest person alive to have such a sister as Aura who was willing to defend her with her life, if need be. Not that she wanted her sister to ever have to go that far, of course. "I w-would d-do anything for her." Of course, Aura was so competent in just about everything, from what she could tell, that she probably would never be able to pay her back for everything she'd done. "D-do you have a b-brother or s-sister?"
When the second compliment came out of Koga's mouth, Amber burst into nervous giggles. "Y-you d-don't mean that." She had never had a crush on a boy before, but she thought if he kept this up she might just develop a crush on this boy. "Y-your f-far too sweet."
"Oh, n-no one will m-mind if I g-go out," Amber assured Koga. She was suddenly very excited about going to see the Mansion and about spending more time with her new friend. It was the first person she had met since moving into Sanctuary who didn't actually live in the building and the first person, other than Aura, who was her own age. "I j-just need t-to get s-something. B-be right b-back." She turned to run back inside. "D-don't go anywhere ok?"
Amber ran quickly inside to her room and grabbed her veil, wrapping it around her face so that only her eyes and a thin sliver of skin showed. She then ran back outside. It was for just in case she stayed out longer than she meant to. "Ok, w-we can g-go now. L-lead the way." She smiled shyly at him.
Koga shook his head. nope I was an only child, biologically at least. though it feelsss like I have more sssiblings than I know what to do with at the ssschool.
Koga shook his head again. I mean what I sssay. I f I don’t mean it, I don’t sssay it. honessst. He managed to bring his obsidian eyes off of the ground and look her in the eye, to make sure she saw the conviction.
Ok, I’ll be right around here. he said to the girl as she ran into and past the golden doors, he caught a glimpse of that creepy secretary and he was pretty sure she saw him too. As he waited he set on one of the railings near the entrance forgetting that any sanctuary person might not like an x so close to their front doors.
Nice! And will do, we just have to catch a cab. Or a bus if no one will stop for us.
Koga padded down the steps making sure she was, with him.
I like the veil, but can I asssk you sssomething? Why do you wear it? if itsss cuassse you are afraid, you don’t have to be, not right now.
