The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Ruben nodded still breathing heavy with a smile. "Yeah..." he whispered as his hands enjoyed her form, his eyes mesmerized by her. "Well... I showed you mine, you showed me yours.." he joked lightly as he rested his lips upon her shoulder... allowing his body to be close enough to hers to make contact with her, grazing her as he moved slowly even closer. Biting his lips at the pleasure, he slowly...very slowly... backed away...brushing her as he pulled out and away.
Suddenly shy, Ruben covered himself barely with a hand, forcing himself down as he stepped out of the shower. He wrapped one of the towels around his lower half and grabbed the other towel, putting it past the shower curtain for Setsuna to take...
*Suna wasn't the shy type in the sense of her body. Actually, the less clothes you wear as a ninja, the higher rank your position is. She disregarded the towel as she left the bathroom and went into the bedroom, sitting on the bed indian style.* "I...it's not you, believe me." *She began explaining, smirking at the idea of the two of them being 'together'.* "Maybe the whole slow thing is better, right? It was what we agreed with...."
Ruben smiled watching her leave the bathroom... and dried himself off the best he could quickly as he followed her out. It was strange but exciting seeing Setsuna so comfortable being naked around him. He tried hard not to stare but found that quite impossible. He adored her.
Tossing his towel onto one of the nearby chairs, Ruben moved to the bed and lay down between the covers, gently grabbing Setsuna and pulling her under the covers with him. With her on her side, Ruben pulled the covers up around both of them as he got close to Setsuna and put his arm around her, kissing her shoulder and ear.
"There's nothing to have to explain." he whispered. "When and if, the time is right. I'm just happy to be here with you." he said as he gave her a small squeeze.
*She smiled and closed her eyes while nuzzling closer to his chest.* "Sorry if I'm still a little wet..." *Suna paused for a moment before she realized what she just said and started laughing hysterically.* "Yea, I meant from the shower and, nevermind. Thank you for believing and understanding me. I figure maybe we should get to know one another more before we get ahead of ourselves too fast."
*She put one leg over both his legs as she cuddled closer and shut her eyes, breathing in his scent.* "Goodnight, Ben." *It was the first time she ever called him by his nickname, which almost sounded weird coming from her lips. She didn't give it a second thought as she quickly drifted to sleep.*
Ruben awoke in cold sweat and a racing heart. His eyes shot open and his breathing was erratic. Sneaking out of the bed, he quickly moved for the bathroom. Searching through his back frantically while being as quiet as possible, he pulled out a needle and some chemicals.
His fingers moved quickly, going to work to find his cure when suddenly, the image of Setsuna sleeping peacefully in bed caught his eye from the bathroom mirror.
He stopped. All time seemed to stop. Blinking a few times with a single tear down his face, Ruben came out of his trance looking to the poison in his hands. Slipping down along the wall of the bathroom, he sat quietly looking at his temptations. He'd gone without it for possibly longer than ever within the past year. Taking a deep breath and closing his eyes, he focused on Setsuna.
Finally standing back up... he looked himself in the eyes through the mirror as the surenge twirled between his fingers. Without a second thought, he took the items and threw them into the trash within their own little concealed bag.
Ruben lay quiet in bed, but breathing hard. He didn't need those things anymore... looking over at Setsuna he knew he had a new chemical romance. The love of Setsuna.
Getting close to her as she slept and wrapping himself around her slowly as she backed up against him with comfort, Ruben breathed her in for a calming moment. He made a silent whisper of a promise to her, to do his best for her.
*Suna opened her eyes slowly from her slumber as she felt Ruben come back into bed. She didn't hear the water running from the sink or the flush of the toilet just before he returned. Her view to the bathroom was clear enough, but she didn't see anything that would tell her what was wrong.
The radio clock on the bedside table said it was 4:30 am. Normally at this time, Suna would be coming back to the dojo after going off to find more information about Mitsumoto. She had to push her own problems to the side now as this new Whitmore problem was much more impertinent to the safety of all mutants. She would miss breakfast in the morning with the dojo kids...Suna snuggled back against him and closed her eyes again to fall asleep.*
*Suna's eyes fluttered open as she could hear the soft movement of someone in the bathroom. For a moment, she thought Ruben was up again, but the weight of his arm around her made her realize it wasn't. She looked at the clock again and it read 9:37 am. Suna quietly slid out from under Ruben without disturbing him, her eyes locked onto her katana which was still on the dresser. Putting her back against the adjacent wall of the bathroom, Suna peaked inside, but couldn't see the person as the door was almost closed. She quickly crossed in front of the bathroom and snatched her katana from the dresser, removing it slowly from the sheath. After taking a few deep breaths, she quietly pushed open the door and stepped inside of the bathroom. It was far from what she expected...
A little blonde girl was on the floor, searching through some of their belongings and looking curiously around at the bathroom. She finally turned around, smiling sweetly at Suna. Suna swiftly put the katana behind her back, so as not to scare the little girl. The child quickly got to her feet and stuck her hand out.* child: "HI, I'M JANIE!!" *Suna put a finger to her lips to keep the girl quiet. She placed the sword outside of the bathroom door and bent down to the level of the girl.* "A friend of mine is sleeping in the next room, so you have to keep it to a whisper, ok?" *She nodded her head and began whispering very loudly.* child: "Ms. Tipper said we had no presidents in the house so I wanted to say hi to them. When I came in the bathroom, I saw you guys sleeping, so I went back here and looked at your purse. I wanted to see your name on your lisen." *Suna had to assume 'presidents' meant residents and 'lisen' meant liscense. She smiled and nodded at the girl.* "Well, I don't have a liscense, but my name is Kilala. How did you get into the room?" janie: "I can phase! WATCH!" *Janie walked through the bathroom sink and outside of the room to the hallway. Suna stood up in amazement and then the little girl came back inside once more.* "That's very cool, Janie. You should've waited till we woke up though." janie: "I'm sorry. What's your boyfriend's name?" *'Well, at least she's honest and frank about everything.', she thought while sitting up on the sink.* "His name is Ruben. He kind of has a mutation like you do." *Her bright blue eyes lit up immediately as she smiled from ear to ear.* janie: "REALLY?!" *Suna put a finger to her lips again as Janie resorted to yelling in excitement.* janie: "His mutation is really like mine?!" *She nodded confirmation to the little girl, but that only made her jump up and down with joy. In the process, she knocked over the trash can and spilled all the contents. Janie saw a small bag on the tiled floor and snatched it up as Suna started putting everything back in again.* janie: "What's this??" "I'm not sure hun, but it's trash, so it's probably not the best thing to be touching." *Janie unzipped the bag and pulled out a syringe, tilting her head to the side as she tried to figure out what it was. She then put it close to her face as she studied it with her eyes. Suna looked up briefly before returning to putting the trash back, but immediately did a double take and snatched the needle from her hands.* "Where did you find this??" *Janie triumphantly held the bag up to her, curiously watching as Suna pulled out the contents of the bag.* janie: "Those are like what the DocProf uses. I hate it when he gives me those stupid shots, but Ms. Tipper says I gotta get 'em which I think isn't fair. Once I even had to get two shots when..." *Suna bent down and held Janie's shoulders to make sure she would listen.* "Sweetie, I have to take a shower now and I also have to wake up my friend soon. You go back to playing and we'll keep this secret bag to ourselves, ok?" *Janie looked confused, but nodded anyway. Suna picked the girl up and held her hands over the sink so she could wash them thoroughly. When Suna but her down, Janie waved with a big smile and phased through the wall. Suna grabbed the small bag again, studying it in question.
'He did throw it away...Maybe it was for when he was helping people at the shelter...' Then it suddenly hit her like a tons of bricks. 'This was why he was in the bathroom. Just great. How the hell do I bring this up?' After tossing possibilities around in her head for what seemed like hours, Suna walked back into the bedroom to confront him. Apparently, they really didn't know much about each other.* "Ruben, we need to talk." *She said, holding the bag up.*
Ruben turned in bed as he awoke to Setsuna's voice. His eyes darted to his former belongings. He stared for a few moments, going through many emotions and thoughts, doing his best not to make any of them evident.
Slowly, he sat up in bed and braced himself against the backboard, facind down somewhere at his lap, away from Setsuna.
"That's MY garbage." he said almost hurtfully, but remaining calm. Slowly his turquoise eyes looked to Setsuna. "It's my problem... my past. Or at least it was..." he added.
Taking a deep breath and closing his eyes trying to formulate an explination, Ruben tried to slow his heart and keep himself calm.
"About a year ago... I developed a cocktail serum in medschool. Sometimes when I heal others using my... 'power', I get a whole lot more than their physical ailments. Sometimes it was unbearable... so I used the knowledge I had to develop an agent for myself that would... help me through the pain." He looked back to Setsuna. "I can't always control myself... my abilities... and sometimes, while they may be a gift... they're also a curse." Ruben said as tears began to form in his eyes.
"But I met you... and even though I had a relapse last night... I saw you... thought of 'us'....and I didn't take the serum... I threw it out... into the trash... where I thought it would stay forever." he said closing his eyes and letting a tear slide down his cheek.
*Suna lowered the bag and climbed in the bed to sit across from him.* "I didn't go sifting through the garbage. We had a small visitor earlier and she found it by accident. Plus, I heard you get up in the middle of the night and I kinda put two and two together, but apparently I was wrong. I'm sorry...I didn't mean to upset you." *She took his hand in hers and wiped the tear away, kissing his cheek.* "Does...it hurt? Are you in pain right now??" *Suna looked him over carefully and tried to read his face.*
"I suppose that depends on your definition of pain... but... no I'm alright." he said being just slightly distand in the shame of truth.
"I didn't want you to know... I didn't want you to think of me as a junkie." he said, turning away. Moments went by before he finally turned back to face her. "I didn't want to lose you... so I made a choice to lose it." He said looking her in the eyes.
*Suna straddled Ruben and gave him a hug that lasted several moments. She didn't cry often, but the feelings that were overwhelming her was leading to just that. Suna forced the tears away by swallowing hard and exhaling deeply. She dropped her head to his shoulder and closed her eyes.* "I don't know about doing it for me, but I want you to do it for yourself." *She thought for a moment and then spoke again.* "Ya know, maybe the DocProf can find or make something for you that isn't so harmful to your body?"
Ruben held Setsuna close, loving the moment and her warmth. The comfort he recieved from her surpassed anything else he could ever prefer.
As Setsuna mentioned the DocProf, Ruben let out a light scoff. "See that's the thing, Suna. I repair myself so fast... that it's as if it doesn't even ... 'harm' me... to a regular user it might but my body never lets it have lasting harmful effects..." he explained. "I think it's more ... psychological. Like an addiction to painkillers you become immune to, but keep taking. Except it actually helps, sadly."
He sat holding her with his forehead on her shoulder. Thinking. "I think I just... need to work on my control... over what I am... to better understand myself... I hoped being a doctor... I could eventually learn to control the pain better through practice... before the pain got the best of me." He explained his theory, not even fully sure of it himself.
*She pulled away and looked at Ruben.* "Well then maybe you shouldn't be healing everyone that's hurt. Just help those that are slightly wounded. It's not your job to save the world, ya know. Tricity said the Doc can't heal everything either..." *Suna explained in a matter-of-fact tone.* "I...I don't want to see you get hurt. It's not worth you having to take whatever that serum has in it if you're becoming addicted. It's not fair to you!"
