The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Why don't you come with us away from those folks down there, and we talk somewhere safe?..."
The mantis girl was heated, now; she ignored everything Gawain said. Saph fought off the urge to facepalm himself... In hindsight, it was probably not a good idea to talk frankly to the drunk jumper, was it?
"What the hell is wrong with you?! Why would you say that... Is something, like, messed up in your head? Look at me! I'm a monster! I'm a freak! You two look fine, but no one will look at me the same ever again!"
Great, she was ranting... Saph looked to Gawain with an apologetic frown, and then set into motion a plan B that he had hoped to avoid. "Would you stop talking already? You're BUGGING me."
The mantis pop star stopped in place like a squirrel getting caught stealing. She turned to him, and after a moment of silence, spoke with as much venom as a drunk person could muster. "What... Did you say?"
"I said you're Bugging me... something clogging your ear holes? If it helps you can read my lips with your GIGANTIC EYES." As Saph spoke he paced slowly to the best position possible, right at the edge of the roof. The girl was past being angry, now... She was enraged. "Stop making fun of me! Stop!"
Saph grinned, beckoning her forward. "What if i don't want to? You gonna make me, Bugface?"
And then she was on him faster than a fly on, "Sh*t!" Saph managed before narrowly dodging a mantis blade... She was a lot faster than he had thought... Oh well, he had gotten what he'd wished for; she'd charged him, and was too drunk to stop her forward momentum properly. The older mutant grabbed the back of her bladed hand and leaned back with all of his might, and both he and the mantis disappeared over the ledge.
The cops outside scattered, but watched in awe and horror as the two mutant plummeted toward the ground. Camera crews lapped up the scene like it was the sweetest of milks, waiting to see a lovely splat.
None came when the couple landed. Saph hit first, and they both just sort of... stopped. Not in the way that provided a satisfying crunch, either. Saph quickly poked the back of the mantis's head, and she went limp, causing him to fall with her on top of him... "Littler help, here?" He said, eying a wide-eyed newsman.
For a moment, Gawain had to admit he agreed with the mantis girl. Masochist Man, living up to his awesome codename, managed to get on his nerves, with no sign or wink to tell him what on Earth he was playing at. It dangerously looked like he was trying to make the mantis jump. And he did.
"F*ck."
Gawain ran to the edge of the roof just in time to see them both land, and observe the curious lack of 'splat'. Whatever happened, it must have had something to do with MM's powers. "Great." Swinging over the edge of the roof Gawain melted into his own reflection in the window-mirror of the top floor, and proceeded to drop from one panel into the other at an lmost fee-fall speed before stopping in the last one, and walking out onto the street. He could see the news crews and hear th crowd murmuring and the police shouting random orders. He couldn't care less.
Walking over to the heap that was MM tangled with a giant and unconscious praying mantis, Gawain leaned forward, with his hands on his knees. "Ya know when I heard people callin' ya Masochist Man, I didn't think it was this extreme." he grinned "You two all right down there?..."

"Ohhh yeaaaah... This is a normal day for me." Saph stated with a little bit of sarcasm in his voice... something about having a big mantis girl on him made him a bit gr-OHMYGODSHEWASPUKING! Saph struggled and made a ruckus as two police officers and a paramedic finally came on over to get her off of him.
He jumped to his feet looking down with a very unpleasant face followed by many very unpleasant words. "She freakin puked on me!" He quickly pulled off his coat and shirt and threw them onto the ground. folding his arms across his chest in the chilly weather. He grumped as he walked over to Gawain again. "She better be greatful... So... eh.. What do we do now? Let them take care of her, and talk to her when she's sober and awake? I, for one, vote we get the hell outa here before someone yells at us." The cops were all talking franticly to each other as the paramedics loaded the pop star into an ambulance.
Saph nodded and made a funny face at a news camera that had decided to focus on him. He smiled a little to young knightinshiningarmor, letting him decide their next course of action.
Gawain snorted as he bit back a laugh; it was not fit for knights in shining armor to snicker about things like Masochist getting puked on by a giant mantis. Really. Nothing funny about that at all. "Admit it, ya always wanted to do a stip act on live television."
>>"She better be greatful... So... eh.. What do we do now? Let them take care of her, and talk to her when she's sober and awake? I, for one, vote we get the hell outa here before someone yells at us."
"Wha..." Gawain was momentarily distracted by reporters and cameras starting to approach like a band of zombies in a bad horror movie. He made a face and turned his back to them. "I'm not sure we're done here. Ya think they can handle the lady when she wakes up? 'cause I doubt it. She'll need our kind around when doctors start pokin' at her. As much as I wanna head back home and grab a beer, I don' think this quest is over for us..."
Masochist Man might need a blanket though. Or a coat. Ambulance cars were usually equipped with nice warm blankets. Hmm....
"Gee, I'm just crossing things off my bucket list left and right, ain't I?" Saph eyed Gawain as the news people approach, leaning in for some last minute speaking before the mics were on. "I dunno... what do the X-men do when this kinda crap happens? Jesus you'd think they'd leave a guide or something, but noooo, bad things just don't happen while the good guys are out of town, do they?" Saph accepted a warm blanket from the first reporter, who felt really proud of himself, even though he had just grabbed it from an ambulance without asking.
Saph looked to Gawain with a frown as the media converged on them, asking gems such as. "Who are you?! What is your relation to Candy? Do you like the president's take on health care?! Will you marry me!?" So maybe a few of those questions are exagerations... Saph just stared for a moment. He had never actually been rushed by the news before... He was usually on his way home by now. "Eh... Well... I'm S... I'm The Masochist. I... I'm a Super hero, and I just came to... Save the day." He looked over to Gawain with a nervous look on his face as the media drank up every word he spoke like it was water straight from the fountain of youth. One reporter looked over to Gawain. "Who are you? Are you his sidekick?!" "No! Eh... This... This is... A fellow Super hero collegue..." Saph just decided to shut up, and let the young knight speak for himself. What a time to get tongue tied, right?
While they spoke Saph wondered what to do for the mantis woman... Take her to the mansion? Get her all talked up out of depression and put her in a room? Jees, maybe he shouldn't have made fun of her... The bright side was she was drunk enough that she might not remember a thing.
>>"I dunno... what do the X-men do when this kinda crap happens? Jesus you'd think they'd leave a guide or something, but noooo, bad things just don't happen while the good guys are out of town, do they?"
"Newsflash, mate" Gawain murmured "Right now, we are the X-men."
And then the attack of the reporters begun.
>>"Eh... Well... I'm S... I'm The Masochist. I... I'm a Super hero, and I just came to... Save the day.... No! Eh... This... This is... A fellow Super hero collegue..."
Gawain rolled his eyes. One can't not hate reporters. They represent humanty at its worst. Except fot Maxine. Maxine is all right. When she's not hitting on teenage knights. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Crossing his arms, Gawain stared down the cameras.
"How 'bout you people go and find a way to make sure other mutant teenagers don' feel like they have to jump off the bulding when their powers kick in, huh?" he frowned "Don't you think press and media has somethin' to do with that?" he asked, nodding towards the ambulance with the mantis in in "Now buzz off an' leave that girl alone. Shoo."
Grabbing Saph by the arm, he walked over to the ambulance car.
"We're coming too" he told the paramedics staring at them "My friend here just fell off a friggin' building, y'know." pushing Saph into the van, he flashed a grin at one of the medics.
Why do the X-men never have to do stuff like this?...
Saph's eyes widened a little at the thought. He was acting as an X-man, wasn't he? In fact, when they left the mansion to go save this girl, it was because it was 'what the x-men would have done'. Maybe he could join the team... Where they even recruiting? Obviously not right now, since everyone seemed to be gone. He would have to ask about it later.
Saph was in the middle of speech with a reporter off to the side when Gawain pulled him away. "Why yes, I do work out. I'm glad you noticed; its very impor-ah!" He was tugged away, and he looked back with an apologetic glance. "Eh, till next time!" Saph, personally, found that he liked the lime light. If everyone else saw you as a hero, then you were one, right? Part of him really wanted the public to adore him, see him as an upright kinda guy. He imagined headlines reading his name; telling of the people he had saved.
Saph was ushered into the ambulance, and frowned when the finally took a seat... He had knocked her good, apparently, cause she was still out. Then again, maybe she was just passed out from the excitement of the fall, mixed with the alcohol. Saph went along with Gawain the best he could, throwing in a "Yeah, my toe kinda hurts." He sat with the younger mutants as the EMT's just looked at each other, shrugged, and went to go start up the car while the other checked on the patient. Saph leaned in after a second and whispered. "How do we get her to the mansion? Do you really think that her manager, or parents will just... sign her on over?" He wasn't sure about that, but it was the most legal way of getting things done... This really was a lot more work than he had first thought it would be... He looked out the back window, thinking silently to himself... Maybe they could just... take her? No, that was kidnapping.
>>"How do we get her to the mansion? Do you really think that her manager, or parents will just... sign her on over?"
"Well, it's either that, or the Insect House at the zoo" Gawain whispered back with a frown, glancing at the mantis. She was still out cold. "And the Mansion looks better on the front page."
He didn't really have a plan. He wondered if the X-men - the real ones - had some kind of a policy for situations like this. He seriously doubted it. How often do you have to deal with teenage pop stars going this green?...
"We'll just have to stick with her till she comes around, and talk to her parents, or manager, or whoever babysits stars these days" he mused, scratching the back of his head "Since we're the only muties on site, we kinda know stuff they don't..."
Resting his head back against the wall, he sighed.
"Ya really all right? That was one heck of a fall. How come ya're still 3D?..."

"Heh, Good one." Saph gave the young man one laugh, but not much more... not because he didn't find the comment funny, but because the girl was right there, and he kinda felt odd talking about her so close... And he didn't like the thought of her going at him with those... arm blade things, if she managed to recollect any of this later.
"You'd think they'd give us a guide or somethin, you know, for when they ain't around." He looked over to the mantis again as she twitched in her unconsciousness. "Yup, I think you're right. We gotta stay with her.." He leaned back and relaxed as best be could with his arm tingling like it was... It had been a long time since he had felt the burning sensation all the way up to his shoulder... "Oh, me? I'm fine... I will have to find something to break soon... It's kinda hard to explain... If I can manage to make stuff hit me on the right side, it wont hurt me. So i just landed on my right foot when we hit the ground. It makes it like we never fell at all, see? But at the same time, I feel it on my left side... like... I take the oomph out of the blow, and store it on the other side... I gotta get rid of it soon, or it'll start to feel like... well... kinda like I'm gonna... explode or something."
He had been trying to send small bits of force into the walls of the ambulance here and there... just enough so that he wouldn't break anything. It was making it more manageable, but he was going to have to make something go boom soon.
"It's a neat trick, I guess... not as cool as that thing you do... I mean, I've seen a lot, but that's just crazy! Closest I ever seen is a guy that could live in walls. He couldn't just walk into one, and then out a different one, though... I mean, I wasn't seeing things, right? How do you do that?" Saph was a sort of power buff... He loved to see new things; find out how they worked. It had given him an edge in combat before, too; especially when it came to fighting telekinetics.
Gawain listened to Masochist Man explainng his powers. So he basically took the full force of the impact, and... stored it?... Neat.
"Well that explains the trick with the tree ya did the other day" he smirked. Of course he only saw that on Maxine's footage. Among various other things he didn't have time to observe while he was trying to save the girls. And himself. The X-men should seriously consider taping their missions. There's a lot to learn there. Maybe not.
How do you do that?"
"Magic." the youg knight grinned "I walk in mirrors."
He looked at the still unconscious mantis in front of them. She sorta looked like the bugs you see pinned to pieces of cardboard in biology labs. Except much bigger. And without the pin. Right.
"I can merge with my own reflection" he went on, just because Masochist looked sincerely interested, and because they had nothing better to do anyway "But I can't do walls 'n' stuff. Anything between two mirrors, I just skip. 'tis how I can pass for a teleporter." he folded his arms and sat back "Maybe Dad was one." he said, half to himself. Right. Or maybe he was just a stupid human. He'll probably never find out.
The ambulance car pulled up in front of a hospital and the doors opened to reveal the paramedics, a small crowd of doctors, some extra swift reporters and people who had no business there whatsoever except to get in the way. Gawain rolled his eyes as he stood, nudging Masochist to follow.
"I do hope ya're not letting those in" he told the doctors, nodding towards th press "She's gonna be enough to handle by hersef when she wakes up. An' don' ya give me that look, we're comin' in. One, we saved her, and two, she's a mutant, we're mutants, we represent a school for mutants, end of story."
He glanced back at Saphirus with a haf grin. "Try not to blow up anythin' yet. We might need the juice later on."
"Magic? No such thing; just very interesting crap that I ain't nearly smart enough to explain... But I like to find out how it all works... Comes in handy, trust me. In fact, If you plan on fighting crime, I'll tell you right now that you better find everything you can about your friend's mutations. It might save you if you end up fighting them, or someone like them later." He nodded a bit, pausing as the younger mutant mentioned his father.
"Yeh? My pops wasn't a mutant, for sure. I think my mah musta been... Wouldn't know, never met her." He didn't feel like including that he had killed her on the way out- complications during the pregnancy.
Saph shifted uncomfortably because of the intense tingling in his arm. The blanket fell a little, showing off a few scars before he got cold and adjusted it.
Once the doors opened, Saph followed the kids lead. While he felt like he was more likened to lead in tactical situations, diplomacy was not his strong point; not at all. He kept his mouth shut, and winking to the press cameras every once in a while.
"Will do, but we might wanna hurry... I can't hold this in forever..."
>>"Yeh? My pops wasn't a mutant, for sure. I think my mah musta been... Wouldn't know, never met her."
"Oh, my Mom was a mutant all right" Gawain grinned as they walked down the hosipat corridors, a flock of doctors in tow, and more seemed to appear from all kinds of rooms and corridors as they news about the mantis mutant started to spread. Soon the hospital security joined the procession too, glaring at Saphirus and Gawain in a none too friendly way.
>>"Will do, but we might wanna hurry... I can't hold this in forever..."
"Look hurt." Gawain murmured at him; he lifted his elbow to poke him the ribs, but decided against it. He didn't need more energy. "Find a way to let it out without someone havin' to pay for a new hospital wing" he added.
They took them - and the still unconscious mantis girl - to an empty room; they put her on one bed, and pushed Saphirus into a sitting position on the other. Doctors seemed more concerned with Candy at the moment, and no one cared about Gawain, so he pulled up a chair and sat down too. Thing seemed to calm down, away from the press and the crowd of people. At least until somebody else arrived. His voice came well before him; he could be heard yelling all the way down the corridor as he fought his way through security. "Just what the hell do you think you are doing?!... No I'm not a doctor!... Yes, I'm a relative, that's my daughter in there you f*** idiout, now let me in or I'll call... security?... Well then it's your job to... you have no authority no keep me outside of that room, young man..." The door finally burst open, and a middle-aged men in an expensive suit and a very pissed off expression marched into the room.
"What the hell is going on here?!" he demanded, and because Candy was still surrounded by doctors, he saw the superhero team first "Just who the hell are you people?"

At the request of Gawain, Saph immediately started limping. Maybe a little too much. His face took on a pained expression, and he played hurt like it was a fine violin. It was pretty obvious he was faking it; Saph didn't know how to play the violin.
The nurses rolled their eyes as they sat him down, and then moved to attend to the mantis girl. Saph looked to Gawain with a grin, and chimed in, "Not bad, eh?" He waggled his eyebrows, obviously proud of his performance.
Before he could say another thing, though, the angry voice of a man penetrated the room, and the man soon followed. The well dressed man looked right at the heroes, and demanded to know who they were. Saph didn't like the look of him; he looked like a d... Like a jerk. One of those guys that thought more about himself than anyone else.
"We're the people what saved your daughter, that's who the hell we are." Saph gave the guy a frank look as the doctors turned to look at the man, revealing the mantis behind them.
"My god... I'm... I'm ruined!" The man yelled as he saw his daughter's new form. Saph looked to Gawain with a face that screamed 'You gotta be freakin kidding me'.
"Ya're supposed to be hurt, not drunk." Gawain muttered between his teeth. Not that anyone cared about Saph's condition, good acting or bad. Those who had seen the fall kept a good healthy distance from him, and those who didn't were too busy trying to poke needles into the mantis.
>>"We're the people what saved your daughter, that's who the hell we are."
"Yeah. We're also the people she's turning into, so some respect would be nice, thank you." Gawain added, rolling his eyes. Too bad the father was too busy staring at his daughter to notice.
>>"My god... I'm... I'm ruined!"
"Father of the year..." Gawain sighed, mirroring Masochist's expression "Now why don't you just..."
There was a scream and a crash as the mantis girl woke up, with doctors and nurses skittering in every possible direction away from her. "Daddy? Daddy!" She sat up, accidentally turning over the bedside table, and the father started to back away, finding shelter behind the bed currently occupied by Saphirus and Gawain. There was chaos, pure and full, with a mantis freaking out, doctors shouting ideas about how to solve the problem, and a father trying to hide from her.
"Now would be the time to get the hell outta here..." Gawain pointed out as the mantis started towards them.

God it would have been nice to run. To go back home and chill in front of the TV, pretending that there wasn't a teen-aged mantis monster attacking. They couldn't though...
Saph moved toward the mantis girl as she charged. Given the fact that the girl was still drunk, and her arms were sharp, she would probably skewer her selfish father on accident. That wouldn't get them anywhere.
He reached out to grab her arms under the blades, holding them and her back at the same time. The older mutant quickly realized that she was stronger than he had thought. Stronger than him. "You again?! You made fun of me!" She screamed with an unfocused drunken rage as she leaned in the try and force her blades into his shoulders. He let the right blade go to use both hands on the left claw, and wasn't phased as the blade hit his right shoulder and did little other than slice up his clothing. Even with both hands trying to stop the blade, it was inching closer; she was too strong.
The doctor's sprung into action. One looked to a nurse and yelled. "Sedate her!" The nurse quickly filled a syringe, and moved to shove it into the closest human looking part of her. The mantis noticed and reached back her right arm to smack the woman away. The nurse yelped and fell over, causing the syringe to rocket from her hand and slide across the floor to Gawain's feet.
Saph struggled to hold the stronger mutant back, but was steadily failing. The drunken mantis stared right at him as she pressed harder, and the bladed arm inched closer, touching his left shoulder. "...c..rap..." He muttered as he pushed as hard he could, resisting the urge to release his stored up energy and make her a green splat on the wall... As much as he wanted to, he couldn't blame her for how she was reacting; killing her would be wrong.
