The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Gong, gong, goooooooooooong. Rattle rattle. The rhythm of the van echoed like faint techno music in Shin's mind. Sound effects. The first part to a good dream sequence. The second part being...
What was her name again...?
Echoing voices. Yes. And lumbering dream figures giving chase. A murky silhouette swam through green water. Shin kicked, Shin pedaled. Shin evaded a giant claw.
Rei Ayana... no. Bubbles trailed as the webbed death implement swept past. Shin chided the mental him. That wasn't her name... lung ... fish? Massive jaws clacked the answer, 'no'. Shin pushed downwards, towards a log. The light of the lung fish's lone antenna cast strangling shadows under the water as it charged past.
Distorted blurbling.
Shin's eyes darted around for a weapon, or some place of safety. He didn't wanna lose his brain... his eyes settled on a metal sphere that looked like a diving helment.
Bathysphere...
No. That wasn't the name... what was he doing again? A triangular eye dropped to a pixilated hand. Griddy digits swam past. His fist clenched. He was protecting.
But protecting from what?
Again, with the lung fish. A visceral roar churned the depths.
Nope. Not lung fish.
A pill-bottle-shaped jelly fish floundered by. Swish swish, no. A bottle of chloroform jiggled on the sand below? A human fist connected with the side of his head.
Shin's eyes widened as he floated backwards, through the snow.
And suddenly, there was snow underwater. And not much water. The whole world solidified from blurbling aqua to icy white cold. Freezing metal pressed up against the drool on Shin's cheek. The van bumped over a pothole. Shin's eyes fluttered open.
Kasu... His eyes fell on her. Jaxon... His eyes fell. That was right. He'd been protecting her.
Judging from the cold metal and the bars in the window of the van, he'd done a lousy job. Shin rolled to a seated position... and promptly felt a fist on the back of his head. He keeled over.
The next thing he realized, he was sitting in a jail cell. These kidnappers were dicks.
~*~
"Jaxon..." Shin shoved her shoulder. She was still sleeping. She had to wake. "Jaxon, I'm sorry... I hugged you when Kasumi was you."

Jaxon was cold… sick. She didn’t feel good. Her stomach kept lurching and settling in a cold hard rock in her belly. Everything was white. Harsh. Bright. People talking in hushed voices ignoring her. Strange sounds flitted to her ears, metallic clinks and clanks and rattles… machines and carts and gurneys.
She didn’t like it here. She hated the hospital. All the poking and prodding and needles and tests. The doctors that acted like she wasn’t there, the nurses that looked at her like she was broken. Talked about her not to her. They didn’t explain anything to her and were only sort of nice to her when the nice people came. The social worker said they wanted to adopt her.
In the midst of dreams of drugs and blood and scary machines, she felt herself being lifted. The sensation rough and scary. She was dropped down harder than she remembered and she grunted. Her chest felt tight and heavy, like the front was trying to cave through the back, and after a long moment she was able to take another breath and the feeling dissipated.
She lay there a moment, waiting for the cold hands to start another IV. But it never came. Instead a hand shook her, a voice wanting her to wake up. She sighed. Waking up didn’t sound like fun; Jax wanted to sleep. She sluggishly opened her eyes as the voice came again.
“Jaxon, I'm sorry... I hugged you when Kasumi was you."
She blinked slowly, each time her eyes closed they didn’t want to open again, but she forced them to. Her arms felt like they were filled with jelly instead of muscles and bone and blood. She rolled slightly, putting her hands down on a cold floor, and pushed up. Slowly she rose into a sitting position, wobbly and weakly and looked at the young man in the cell with her.
“What?...”
She knew the young man in the room with her. Shin. The fog was slowly lifting from her mind, slower from her body. She felt exhausted and her head hurt. Looking around, not really seeing anything except what she was looking for, she scooted her self a little so that she could lean against the wall.
She shivered and tucked her hands under her arms to keep them warm, blinking vacantly at Shin. “What are you talking about?”

“It doesn’t matter anymore…” Shin’s voice dropped. It didn’t matter, wasn’t important. The throbbing on the back of his head, now? That was important. And the cold floors, the metal bars. The darkness of the cell. Funny how, when he’d felt compelled to do the confession, it had been a critical thing. But now… “I don’t know where we are… Jaxon, I think we got kidnapped… are you alright?”
He'd tried the bars already. They were metal. His hands kinda hurt now. Head was still light from the chloroform. Jaxon's face was gridlike. He wondered if that was an aftereffect of the concussion?

Am I alright? Jaxon did a mental review while scanning her visible bits. She tried to be quick about it but she had a feeling she was taking longer than she thought she was. Arms and legs there and working? Check… She wiggled her toes and fingers and flexed the muscles and didn't feel anything but tired. Lifting her hands to her head se didn't feel anything out of the ordinary. Head? Fuzzy and seems to be attached and not bleeding. Last she assessed how her insides felt. Nauseous, gross, and clenched… but otherwise fine.
"I think I am okay. What about you?" Jaxon looked around and agreed with Shin's conclusion. They had definitely been kidnapped. And unless Shin had done something to earn getting kidnapped, she had a feeling that she was target. She couldn't say for sure, but it was probably related to the fact that Kane Corp. had been chosen for the building contracts instead of a few Romanian companies.
With a sigh she looked around and wasn't surprised to see that most of their belongings had been taken. "As much as I hate to be the girl right now, I have to ask… Do you have a plan for getting out of here?"

>>"I think I am okay. What about you?"
"Head attached," he swatted his right ear. "Legs, in working order. Arms, tired but working." He made a muscle. "I'm fine..." So far as kidnappings went... He'd never been kidnapped before. He wondered if Jaxon had. Shin had some... questions. Was the method of choice usually punches to the back of the head and chloroform? Or were their kidnappers geniuses in their field. Why couldn't they have been giant gorillas carrying a blond woman up the Empire state building?
He idly imagined Giant's Bane lugging Kealey Quinn.
Their fists had certainly been ape-sized.
Most of his things were gone. He suddenly realized this as Jaxon asked her final question.
D-d-damn. They'd gotten his abacus. Wait. No they hadn't. Just his coat, and his X-communicator... uh. That last one could be a problem. Did they know about the X-men? Could they tell if he was a mutant from a circular communication disc in a pocket? More importantly... was there a replacement fee?!
"Plan?" Shin started. "Possibly. Yes. Not really, no. I was thinking I'd saw through the bars with my mind, and punch the first person I see in the back of the head. You coming?"

She watched as he followed a similar process of checking himself, glad when he declared himself alright. Jax made an attempt to stand, slow going but it went better using the wall than it would have without. She felt like a newborn giraffe, but when Shin came up with his plan she nodded. She didn't feel like she could make it but she was going to try. No way was she going to just sit there.
"I didn't know you could do that… Cool." Jax nodded motioning to the bars with a 'go ahead' wave of her hand, she gave him a weak smile. "Lead the way and let me know if you want me to do anything."
Jax made a face, mostly at herself. She should have started thinking of a plan. Shin's sounded fine though and Jax was fine with being the support in this escape. She started running through a few of the beasties in her mental rolodex. "I've got the monsters if you need a little mash…" Yes, it was a lame joke, but it was all she had at the moment.

Shin's eyes closed. He took a calming breath. He had to focus, and reel in the mental control needed to form the shapes. In his mind, he imagined a green grid. A red line drew across the bottom of it. Orange lines hopped up from the line to divide the squares in half. Shin's brow crinkled as he poured on the concentration, like a chef added lighter fluid to the grill. With one quick horizontal slash, he swept his right hand in front of him. The grid within his mind ignited all along the X axis, each triangle lit up like a flame.
A serrated line of shard blades snapped across the bars. Metal screamed as the diamond-hard teeth of the shard saw blade chewed through. Another few slashes, and it was done. Shin's right heel met cell bars. They fell forward, onto the ground.
Shin turned back to aim a weak smile at Jaxon. The shards vanished into thin air. "See? Easy. All that's left is to find a face..."
He slipped through the hole in the cell, and padded towards the hall.

Jaxon watched him focus, trying to keep out of the way, wondering what he was doing behind his eyes. She was curious how other people handled their powers. When his hand jumped out and quickly moved in front of him, Jax leaned away, guarding her eyes just in case. The sounds that screeched through the room made her wince, and when they stopped, she shook her head as if too clear it.
The clank of his foot, followed by the louder clank of the bars on the floor was Jaxon's cue to push off the wall and follow Shin. "Nice. Okay then… here we go?" She was a little surprised that an alarm hadn't gone off or something, but… They didn't know they were mutants and obviously weren’t prepared for them to escape.
Trailing Shin, Jax moved into the hall. She felt like her ears wee trying to peel off her head in order to hear for any tiny sound that might mean they had been discovered. She must have jinxed it with her thoughts, because just as they were passing a closed door, a loud alarm sounded, and she flinched. She expected to see flashing red lights but apparently that was under their budget.
Immediately her mind reached for a creature. An animal the size of a large dog but looked more like a rhinoceros. It had a single horn coming out of what might be a nose, eyes so sunken under its skin that they could only be seen by the small reflections of light that occasionally gleamed, its skin covered in heavy plates that looked like rock. The door that they had passed yanked open two men looking at them in surprise. Jaxon glanced at the creature that was still foggy and useless, and turned back to the men.
In a split second decision, something she rarely did, she made a fist and jabbed at the closest man's nose. He yelped and his hand shot up to his now bloody nose, and he glared at her. "Why you little…"

>>"Nice. Okay then… here we go?"
"Here we go~" He repeated, with the same volume and tone as on the title screen of Rock Vonutt in the video game Rockman Dash.
Slowly, cautiously, the pair walked the halls. Shin kept a hand to the wall, as if that would keep him from getting lost. His eyes scanned up and down the hall. Where were they, he wondered. They had to still be in Bucharest, didn't they? The kidnappers wouldn't have had the time to take them anywhere different, or the reason... though why they'd kidnapped him at all made Shin wonder. He realized he must've got in the way.
Just as he realized this, an alarm went off. Shin had hoped it would be a mental one. A witty realization joke would have been good now, but no. Just the regular ol run-of-the-mill bells and whistles alarm leaked from the walls.
Damn.
A door rattled open. Shin spun!!
Only to see Jaxon jab one of the men in the nose.
"Ow..." That had to hurt. His right fist met the same man's face to follow up her strike. "Have some more!"

Jaxon had looked to Shin with a questioning look on her face, wondering if punching the guy had been the right move, when he did the same. The look vanished to be replaced with a more determined one. Her critter still hadn’t completely formed yet… strange how it seemed to take forever when she needed it but went too fast when she was trying to hide it.
”Um…” Jaxon had no idea what was next when it came to fighting, so she went with what had worked the first time. Punch… but it looked like the guy had wised up after first hers then Shin’s fist to the face. He dodged grabbing her arm and yanking it so that she tumbled off balance towards the other man, while guy #1 went for Shin. “Handle the girl…” He didn’t even look back at Jaxon, only wiping his bloody nose with a meaty fist before advancing on Shin.
The element of surprise was no longer on Jaxon’s side so the man who caught her easily held the advantage. Both men were big, though she had seen beefier guys, and easily dwarfed both herself and Shin. Bad guy #2 easily restrained the struggling Jaxon, seeming to just wrap arms around her and she couldn’t move anymore. ”Hey! Let go you big ape or else!” She wiggled and squirmed to no use, trying to kick out as he dragged her down the hall.
Finally her mini-rino thing finished becoming a real boy and charged down the hall after Jaxon and her captor. Unsurprisingly neither man had noticed it until now. It was a dark color and blended into the shadows and to be honest, who would take it seriously if they thought they saw an intangible rino-rock thing. They would assume it was a trick of the light. Until the darn thing ran into their leg.
Which her little beastie did. Unfortunately the thing wasn’t that smart; it seemed to think with Jaxon’s emotions and emotions weren’t very logical or smart usually, and it also clipped Jaxon’s flailing leg. The man who had been dragging her now shouted and screamed from the floor while her critter used its sharp horn to stab and dig around under his skin. Jaxon didn’t want to smile but should couldn’t help the ‘told you so’ look on her face. She turned to walk away only to find that it hurt when she tried.
Looking down she found a tear through her jeans, flannel pants, and tights and a gash in her calf. She immediately looked away but she was pretty sure she saw muscle flex and it freaked her out enough that she didn’t want to look again. And the pain she hadn’t felt before suddenly rushed to life when she saw it, so she tried to put it out of her mind and limp back to where Shin and the other man were, intending to help but using the wall for support.
A few moments later the little rino-beast trotted after her, and slightly ahead of her, heading for Shin’s fight… with its tongue hanging out of its mouth like a happy dog. Jaxon made a face. “Creepy…”
Down the hall, the bleeding man reached for his radio, still making noises of pain as he did so. Both his legs were out of commission for a while, possibly forever unless he had a very skilled surgeon nearby. “Mutant… The guy.. the guy is a mutant. My legs oh god… Send help!”

On an average day, Shin was an X-men. He fought the good fight, grinned the big grin, and did what he could for the good of all mankind with a song in his heart. He tried to keep the violence in check. It didn't look good when mutants killed, when mutants injured humans, or when mutants used their powers in uncontrolled bouts of rage. He controlled himself. Did what he could to help those in need... That wasn't to say he was a naive butterball when it came to fighting.
Shin had been to the Thunder Dome. He'd fought bigger idiots than Giant's Bane. Before he'd joined the X-men, he'd been a bastard caged fighter with a heart of gold. He'd punched, and kicked, and spilled plenty of blood. It is important to note that, since joining the X-men team, the only blood Shin had spilled as of late was that of his own. Himself, Cold Steel, friends. All accidental spills, brought on by actions he'd had to take, or uncontrolled psionic attacks.
Now, see. That blood was spilled in accident. And plenty of it. All his own team. These people had kidnapped him and his friend here... but Shin was in control.
Just imagine the destructive power of a whirling drill of shards turned on an enemy by a mind in control. An angry mind, bathed in red.
When Jaxon limped back into Shin's view, suffice it to say, the burly man she'd left him with was on the floor. As polite descriptions go, his shoulder was cut up. Shin aimed one last kick at the man's chest, and spat. His eyes were narrowed like the V crown of a Gundam. As the rhino beast loped towards Shin, the Asian's features lightened. He turned back to Jaxon, completely calm. Behind him, the man on the floor groaned.
Shin's eyes fell on the rhino beast's tongue. "You'll be disappointed, boy..." As they rose back up, Shin noticed the girl's leg. He took a step forwards, and offered a supporting arm. "You're hurt. Here... we need to get out of here..."

Casting a quick glance over what Shin had done, she nodded, taking the support he offered. Moving slower than before but as quickly as she could despite the pain, Jax followed Shin as they wound their way through the base.
On the other end of the radio the man who received the call for help had made a quick phone call. They hadn't signed up for mutants. All they were supposed to do was kidnap the girl, not her mutant friend. Of course, they didn't think Jaxon was the mutant, they would have heard or been told about that before hand, so it must be the young man.
Government vehicles were now on the road, heading for the base, loaded with trained officers and the technology required to take down a mutant. Tranquilizer darts, shock collars, tazers, catch-poles, riot gear, straight jackets, tear gas, pepper spray, body armor… everything needed to take down nearly any mutant. Though it was not American quality it would do.
Though Jaxon and Shin didn't know it, they only had a few minutes to get out of a confusing base that now was on full alert.
They ran into more henchmen as they moved through the halls but they were dispatched easily by Shin and Jaxon's rino-beast. Until the SWAT style van arrived. The armed men moved through and lay in wait for the two of them. When Jaxon and Shin turned a corner they were hit.
Told not to hurt Jaxon, only capture her, they took her down with a dart to her shoulder. Shin on the other hand, was shot at as a distraction before a stun gun jumped out when he turned. The only supposed mutant, they slapped a shock collar on him while he lay twitching, and they proceeded to drag him out, none to gently, and tossed him in the truck. Mean while, the men who had originally kidnapped them both, took Jaxon back.
Jaxon hated waking up this way. It made her feel dirty inside. Stupid drugs… Thankfully whatever she had been hit with hadn't been as bad as chloroform, the haze and blurry eyes faded faster and she didn't feel like throwing up. That was a plus. But she felt like her insides were coated with tar and she wanted to eat soap and a brillo brush… Definite minus.
Looking around she found that her situation was a bit worse than before. She was tied up this time, in front at least… and she wasn't in the same cell. It looked like she was in a small room or large closet. Maybe for storage or something. Not so great. But it shouldn't be too hard to escape from o her own.
On her own… Shin. Jax hoped he was okay, because he sure wasn't in here with her. What happened? The wound on her leg was clumsily and quickly bandaged. Sore and painful. Using her other leg she scooted over and kicked at the wooden door until someone shouted at her to stop.
"Let me out Pig!"
The voice that came back sounded very mad at her. And large, it sounded very large. "Shut up girl! You and mutant friend make trouble."
"You come and say that to my face and you'll see trouble you… Bad Person!" Jaxon kicked the door again for good measure.
The rattle that came back made her wince. The man on the other side had apparently hit back; with way more force that Jax had. "I open the door I beat you."
Jaxon made a face even though the man couldn't see it. She started pulling one of her demon dogs, a Baskerville hound of sorts, glowing eyes and smoking mouth… and razor sharp teeth… that ought to do it. After a few moments, when the creature was solid, she kicked the door again, shouting. "How about you open the door so I can show you something special?"
There was the sound of a chair scraping on the floor followed by the door yanking open. Jaxon blinked at the light, the large man silhouetted in the door frame. "Told you I'd show you something special…"
She grinned though she doubted he could see it and the dog growled lunging forward. Only to be stopped by the door slamming shut and the man shouting. "The Girl! She's a mutant too! Call the government!"

Jaxon glared at the now silence on the other side of the door. "Oh yeah, call the government to deal with some 'girl' you were just threatening. Just you wait until the embassy hears of this. So much trouble!"
She grumbled for a few minutes before she decided she was tired of this game. Her demon dog was still there, though it had taken up an alert sitting position, and when she kicked the door again, it stood. There was a startled sound on the other side of the wood, which meant they were there, just being quiet and sneaky.
"Yeah! I know you are there! Take that!" Jax sighed. This wasn't really getting her anywhere, it was tiring her out and giving the bad guys stuff to use against her. And getting them mad wasn't the best idea. But it felt good.
It was a few minutes of shifting before she managed to get in a position where she could look under the door and put her ear to the wood… though not at the same time. There were dark feet shifting silently around the room, shadows showing that they were doing something. She couldn't hear anything telling, only occasional sounds of clothing brushing against other cloth.
The door popped open just as she put more weight on it, trying to hear more, and she tumbled forward landing awkwardly to avoid banging her face against the floor. For a moment she just stared at them and they at her, men in mutant gear looking at a petite girl. But her beast knew what to do. It sprung from it's place in the darkness, growling and latching onto the arm of a man. Only to be quickly shot several times, the other men uncaring if they shot the man's arm at the same time.
The creature made a loud pained noise, dropping to the floor. Jax meanwhile was fighting off a man trying to put a collar of some kind on her. Not a very good fight with her hands tied, but she made do keeping him at bay with her feet. Until he got a buddy to join him.
Even with a few holes in it, the beast lunged for the two men struggling with Jaxon, but she turned to look, giving them a chance to slap the damn thing on her. Immediately the shocks started, making her writhe in pain. The men grinned a mean grin from under their masks and spoke roughly. "Turn off your power you mutie-bitch and it'll stop…"
Jax tried, but with the shocks getting more painful her concentration kept breaking and her demon dog kept going from solid to insubstantial, flickering. It wasn't until the shocks became too much that the demon vanished, the numbness spreading through her spine, and she passed out.
