The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Mutations
Mutation description: Sonar Sense Strengths:Luke naturally emits an infrasonic sound wave at approximately 17 hertz when in a relaxed state. Though physically blind this sound wave allows him to "see" most objects around him although it is still impossible to read or experience the beauty of paintings and most art. When angry, stressed, or in combat the sound waves raises up to approximately 18 hertz. While this seems like a minor change, NASA has shown at the human eye has a resonant frequency of 18 hertz which means that anyone within approximately 30 feet of Luke during these time periods will see strange shapes and "ghosts" at the edge of their vision making them think ghosts or wraiths are in the vicinity.
Weaknesses:Though this ability allows Luke to "see" objects and people around him it has a maximum range of 100 feet and that only when he is straining to reach out as far as possible. In most cases he keeps his sonar sense at about 30 to 40 feet. Also, infrasonic sounds make most people feel nervous and fidgety so Luke always has to do his best to reassure friends or business associates that everything is OK and there is really nothing to be nervous about. While this has affected certain business deals in a negative manner, Luke's positive and upbeat personality can normally overcome the downside of his powers.
Secondary mutation description: Enhanced Hearing Strengths:Due to his sonar sense Luke has the ability to hear sounds far quieter that most. The faintest whisper spoken from a hundred yards away can be heard crystal clear if the man simply concentrates and focuses on everything around him. Weaknesses:Unless Luke is purposely concentrating on using his enhanced hearing he does not hear better or worse than the average human. When concentrating for a specific noise or voice, Luke can be temporarily deafened if a loud blast of noise in the same range suddenly kicks in. (i.e. Luke is concentrating on a whisper some distance away to the north and suddenly a radio blasting a similar voice drives through the same arc. Luke will be stunned for twenty to thirty seconds and his enhanced hearing will be disabled for approximately the next five to ten minutes.)
Power Growth: Infrasonic Blast (Approved 12/16/2008) Strengths:Infrasonic sound when released in sufficient quantities and power has been shown to cause damage to building, damage to internal organs, and also strike objects with a force powerful enough to throw the object or a person back a certain number of feet depending on the strength of the blast. The sonar sense that has been used so long for simply seeing can be focused down into two different types of blasts.
1) Almost like a sound laser, is only aproximately 6-12 inches around but is extremely powerful being able to blast through 8-10 feet of concrete without the slightest difficulty. 2) This blast spans an area of aproximately 4-5 feet around with enough power to tunnel through aprxoimately 1-2 feet of concrete. If a person were hit with this power it would vibrate their internal organs (no permanent damage just discomfort) and would also throw the victim back between 12-15 feet. If the victim did not have any type of healing ability or extra strength they would more than likely be rendered unconscious.
Weaknesses:The infrasonic blast has a maximum range of 40 feet.
Each time Luke uses an infrasonic blast it cuts the range of his regular sonar by 10% for a 12 hour period. That penalty is cumlative so if he were to use the ability twice in a row for an attack he would have his range cut by 10% and then by another 10% for a total of 24 hours instead of 12.
Ex: No power use (Sonar Max Range 100 feet) 1 Sonic Blasts (90 feet aprox. Max Range For 12 Hour Period) 2 Sonic Blasts (80 feet aprox. Max Range For 24 Ho ur Period) 3 Sonic Blasts (70 feet aprox. Max Range For 36 Hour Period) 4 Sonic Blasts (60 feet aprox. Max Range For 48 Hour Period) 5 Sonic Blasts (50 feet aprox. Max Range For 60 Hour Period) 6 Sonic Blasts (40 feet aprox. Max Range For 72 Hour Period) Etc.
If at any time during his 'rest' period he uses another sonic blast the time goes back up, with his body not acknowledging the time he had rested.
Ex: Luke fired 1 sonic blast and has now rested for 10 hours. He finds himself in a situation where he must strike back and uses 2 more sonic blasts He now has a max range of aproximately 70 feet for the next 36 hours even though he had previously rested for 10 hours.[/b][/color]
Fighting Style
Explanation: Bartitsu (Boxing/Kick-boxing/Stick & Staff Fighting) Pros for fighting style: Luke is a close combat fighter that is more than a match for most normal criminals he would face on the streets. He is skilled at using nonlethal techniques and making sure that noone dies. Cons for fighting style: Though Luke is more than a match for basic criminals, he is by no means a martial arts master. Facing someone skilled in Karate, Jujitus, or some other form of martial arts puts him at a severe disadvantage.
Faction Allegiance The X-Men
History Of Your Character Luke was raised by his uncle Oliver Jacobs since the age of two. Having a son born blind with obvious optic nerve damage that made a cornea transplant impossible could strain any marriage and, while Luke never knew the details, that was what he had to assume had happened when he was a baby. Luke's mother Sonja Martinez Jacobs disappeared not long after his first birthday. Many said that she must have run away because of abuse or a bad marriage but there was no proof to suggest that. Luke's father Darin spent most of the fortune amassed through his company "Jacobs & Jacobs Security", in order to try and find Sonja but to no avail. Just after Luke's second birthday, Darin shot himself from the despair of having lost his wife.
Luke's childhood was mostly spent in Europe at different prepatory academies. Oliver had no idea how to raise kids and was far more interested in making money so he thought it was important for Luke to be trained in business and other aspects of life by expert tutors and teachers. Luke was always the odd man out, being blind and basically an orphan while everyone else at the school had their sight, parents, and plenty of money. One thing that Luke had was the drive to succeed. He was out to prove that even though he was different he was just as good as any one of them. His grades reflected that for years but about his sixteenth birthday something else changed for the young man. Faint at first but slowly growing in strength over the course of a month or two Luke began to be able to sense objects around him. It was the closest he could imagine to sight but he knew that it wasn't. He still couldn't read a book or watch a television but he could now walk through rooms without tripping over anything. Sure he continued to carry his cane but now it was more for show than actual usefulness. The world was opening up to him though he couldn't understand exactly why.
At age eighteen Luke became a full partner in "Jacobs & Jacobs" but chose to take a smaller percentage of profits while staying away from the business. Oliver was pleased by his nephew's decision as it left more money for him and so in his greed chose not to ask for Luke's reasons. Taking the money that he had coming in every month, Luke traveled the world, gaining insight into the way that the world worked. Everywhere he discovered corruption and evil that hid in the shadows, tormenting the weak in order to gain more power and more assets. It ranged from the petty criminal on the streets to the corrupt officials in government but even with all the corruption there were many good people in the world. There were the families that opened their homes to him as he backpacked across Europe, the children that rushed forward to help him cross the street tho ugh he truly needed no help, the cooks that gave him food for no charge because of his disability and so many others that he could never remember. However, there was one instance, several months after his nineteenth birthday, that give him something focus on.
Having spent the night at a farmer's house, Luke was doing his best to help out with the chores the next day to pay for his room a board, much to the chagrin of the farmer. Even with his blindness Luke was strong and his other senses worked well enough for him to muck out stalls and do other basic work. At about ten o'clock in the morning a large Cadillac pulled into the driveway and four well-dressed men stepped out. Right from the beginning it was obvious that one of them was the boss while the others were bodyguards or advisors of some type. After arguing with the farmer about how his "insurance" payments were late and the farmer insisting that he had nothing to pay them with, the men said they would simply take his daughter and the debt would be settled. "No!" The farmer had cried, "Leave her out of this! You have no right to touch her!" L uke had stepped in to try and help but without even sparing a glance one of the bodyguards shoving him to the ground and then placed on heavy foot on his back, holding him down. The farmer had begged for just a few more days and finally they were granted and the men drove off. The "insurance" was one of he most basic protection rackets on the streets or even out in the country. If the farmer refused to pay his house and barn would be burned to the ground. As long as he paid no "accidents" would happen. Though Luke had been unable to help physically his sense of duty and justice had been touched. After wiring enough money to the farmer so he could pay his debt, Luke set out to learn how to stop those kinds of thugs.
In England, Luke began to learn the art of Bartitsu. Bartitsu was basically a medley of the best of different martial arts all put together. Boxing, Kick-boxing, Jujitsu, and several others had found their way into the art form allowing those that mastered Bartitsu to be able to hold their own against most fighters because they had such a range of fighting abilities. While it was true Luke never learned some of the most advanced maneuvers that true masters of one art would learn, his skills were wide spread enough to handle most areas of combat. For five years Luke studied in England, not only focusing on his martial arts but also gaining a Masters Degree in Business Science from Oxford. Finally after so long away from home Luke returned to New York.
To say that Oliver was not thrilled would have been an understatement... to say that Oliver was completely livid would have been much closer to the truth. He had slowly been working on finding a loophole to completely remove one "Jacobs" from the business and then suddenly Luke showed back up in New York with a full degree to prove himself worthy as a partner in the business. There was no way Oliver to say that Luke had been ignoring his duties because the younger man had gained a degree that would directly benefit the now rapidly growing company. "I'm not here to take the company away from you Uncle." Luke said, trying to placate the very greedy older man, "I'm just here to do my part. Let me work in the office doing finance analysis or something like that. I can guarantee that I'll help the bottom line."
It had taken some convincing but finally Luke was made the CFO (Chief Financial Officer). Within a few months Oliver had to admit that Luke was doing his job. Cutting costs and finding ways to save money without damaging morale or product quality Luke had already helped increase profits by twelve percent. And while this all made Oliver very happy all it did for Luke was provide him an extremely strong cover. Now that things were going well in business he could begin cleaning up the streets. After renting a two-bedroom apartment on the 34th floor of the New Gotham apartment building, Luke set about putting together his costume. Though it was difficult to get Kevlar lined fabric it wasn't impossible and so within about another month Luke was ready to begin touring the city.
Using the "Wraith" as his opportunity to make a difference on the streets Luke stopped muggings, robberies, rapes, and other various crimes. Though it seemed that his work was barely making a dent, the rumor and myth of the “Wraith” was slowly growing in power. There is a saying… a very old saying that “No Good Deed Goes Unpunished” and so it was with Luke. Even as he tried to help the NYPD officers slow down crime, events were conspiring against him. After the Sanctuary Police Massacre, every officer was extremely suspicious of masked marauders with unknown powers and abilities. After more and more apparent issued with the “Mutant Threat” as many called it, the Mutant Registration Law was passed.
Luke had never thought about where his powers came from or how he had gotten them but choosing to abide by the law the young man had gone in for testing. As he had begun to suspect he had the Mutant-X gene and was now a registered mutant. After hearing rumors about the atrocious conditions in the Detention Camps, Luke hired a team of lawyers to help fight against the law. Though his team was not one of the main liners they were able to help in the case that was brought before the Supreme Court. When the Registration Law was struck down Luke was once again free of his bracelet but he knew that the stigma of being a mutant would never permanently disappear. Labeled a freak and outsider Luke voluntarily stepped down from his position as CFO and faded into the background, a simple share holder in the “Jacobs & Jacobs” company. What no one knew, not even his Uncle Oliver was that he had bought enough shares to be the majority shareholder in the company. Luke knew that eventually he would find a reason to take control of the company but for now he was satisfied to step back and focus on the other tasks he had been given. No longer was it enough to just stop crime because now Luke knew the stink of prejudice. There were mutants that needed help and he was going to do his best to help them.
Roleplay Where did you learn about this site?: Google Search Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: Jacen King (Adapted)
Sample RP: The rain had been coming down on New York City for several hours and it seemed like things were going to remain quiet. Crouched high above the city on edge of a high-rise roof the Wraith looked down into the shadows below his eyes unseeing but his mind still knowing what was going on below. Within his suit he could almost feel a slight shiver from the cold running up and down his back but it was something that had to be ignored for the moment. Pushing out with all of skill the Wraith maximized his senses, reaching out into the city all around him. There… stories below a fight had broken out. Without a second thought the Wraith lept from the building, jumping back and fo rth from fire escape to parapet, to flagpole, and back to fire escape, finally stopping his descent a mere twelve feet above the fight.
“Come on sweetie! You know you want we can give you!” One of the thugs had been murmuring to an obviously fearful woman that the two men had backed up against the building.
There was no warning to allow the two men a chance to escape or defend themselves. Crashing into their backs, the Wraith slammed the two men to the ground and then lept away, his staff gripped firmly in his right hand. As the two men began to stand he spun the weapon expertly, striking both on the top of their head before they could even begin to recover from his first attack.
”Get out of here before they wake up.” The Wraith’s voice was cold and unyielding as he spoke to the woman, “They won’t be coming after you again.”
*** (Back At The Apartment)
Luke peeled off the cold wet costume and tossed it to the bathroom floor before stepping into the warm shower. His muscles ached from the rapid descent but at the same time there was a deep sense of satisfaction. He had helped one person that night but there were so many crimes he had been unable to stop.
After washing off the grime of the night Luke stepped out and toweled off, his sightless eyes apparently staring off into the distance. Wrapping the towel around his waist the man picked up his dripping costume and padded off to the laundry room in order to clean the garment before his next night out. As the washing machine began its cycle of cleaning Luke heard a phone ring. Striding confidently through the room Luke picked up the phone.
“This is Luke. Sarah… nice to hear your beautiful voice. No, I just got home from work so I’m free the rest of the night. Dinner sounds wonderful. How about Le Cellier? Perfect. I’ll meet you there in about fifteen minutes.”
