Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Well that was an intresting way to start a day. Specter was still thinking about the time he had spent in the coffee shop as he wandered around New York. He had once again found himself around central park, and once again seemed to be heading to the medium shop. Specter didn't know what kept drawing him back to this place. Maybe it was the connection he felt with the spirit world due to his name sake. Maybe he just felt guilty about the trick he had tried to pull on Tarin the last time he was here. Ether way Specter found himself outside the familar glass window wondering if he should go in. Well Tarin was a nice enough person, and with his ability to speak with the dead Specter felt sure the man had some intresting stories. A familar chim went off as Specter opened the door looking around in hopes of finding Tarin cleaning again. "Hello, Tarin, it is Marcus, are you here? I come again apologize for other day. I wonder have you time for talk?" Specter looked around this time taking a real intrest at the things displayed. He had arrived at the mansion with nothing, and though they had provided all his basic needs Specter thought he might find something to add a more personal touch to his room.
Lee knew that Tarin wanted her to come back to the shop, but she wasn't sure she was ready for that. It seemed weird. Plus, Tarin said he was able to manage things on his own, said he was cleaning.
Yet, when she had stopped by the previous day, it hadn't looked like it. The place had been a mess, the windows dirty, the counter nowhere near organized. It looked like it had before they had initially started dating, only worse because now the customers were being subjected not only to the dirty front of the shop, but also the back room.
So Lee had gone to the shop with Tarin the next day, gone despite how she had argued with herself about it the previous night. Even if it felt weird, the shop clearly needed cleaned up, and apparently Tarin wasn't doing quite as good of a job as he said he was.
And so, because she was there, Tarin hadn't bothered to lock up when he actually ran out to get something for lunch.
About fifteen minutes after that, Lee heard the bell over the door chime. She hadn't thought Tarin would be that fast, but he hadn't said what he was going to go grab, either.
Then she heard someone calling for Tarin, and Lee frowned. Maybe she should have changed the sign to closed when Tarin left; she wasn't there to work, she was simply there to clean up. Still, she walked out into the front room and put as much of a smile on her face as she was able to manage. It wasn't much.
"Sorry, he had to step out for a bit," she told the man. The tall, white haired young man standing in front of her. What little bit of a smile that had been on Lee's face disappeared as she continued to speak. "Are you here for a session, or was there something else I could help you with?"
Specter turned from a display he was admiring as he heard a female voice mention that Tarin had stepped out. The woman appeared accustom to the location and yet out of place at the same time. Specter vaguely remembered Tarin mentioning something about somebody else working in the shop with him on his last visit. Of course at that time Specter was more interested in the prank he had planned on pulling. "Apologizes miss. I did not know Tarin was away. I come by shop accidental other day and met with him. Circumstances were not best. I come to again offer apology for action, and perhaps purchase room decore." Specter started looking around at the items displayed taking an intrest in a pair of gargoles and insance burners. "Are you partner?" Specter looked back at the woman as he gathered the items he thought to by moving on to look at some old occult books.
Lee straightened up slightly as she heard the man, who was speaking with an accent, say that he had been to the shop the other day and things hadn't gone the best. Lee wasn't sure what to think about that. Tarin hadn't mentioned any strange visits, hadn't told her about any bad sessions. To Lee, that could really only mean one thing: one way or another, things had happened and Tarin had told this guy he was a mutant, and Lee could only guess that Tarin hadn't told her to keep her from worrying about that.
But there really wasn't anything Lee could do about that little development. Plus, it could have been anything, she told herself. Just because that had been one of her biggest worries for months because of the Registration Act, didn't mean that was what had happened the last time this man had been in the shop.
"Take your time," Lee said when he mentioned possibly buying some things that they had in the shop. "I'll be around."
That said, Lee made her way around the counter, sitting down on the stool there, and started sorting through the papers. Or at least she was until she heard the man's question. Was she Tarin's partner? Lee wasn't sure what to say to that. Did he mean was she with Tarin, or was she partners in the shop?
No, Lee decided, slipping a small pile of papers back into a drawer. It didn't really matter which question he was asking, the answer was the same: she didn't really know. Lee shrugged. "I guess you could say that," she ended up answering. "Found something you like there?"
Specter was still muling around the shop picking up things here and there for a closer inspection. When he found something he liked he sat it down over by the woman behind the counter, and went back to looking. He had noticed how oddly she had answered his question realizing there was more to the answer than she was letting on. Still Specter didn't see a wedding band so he didn't press the matter. After all what buisness was it of his. Making one last sweep over the store Specter came back up to the front counter to pay. He stood waiting for her to ring up his items taking the time to better look her over, and try to figure out what type of person she was. "Your friend has intresting talent. I had hoped maybe speak more with him about it. Seems I have meet many intresting people sense coming here." Specter didn't want to say to much. He couldn't really be sure how much this woman truely knew about Tarin. Though if he had to guess he suspected they shared more than a simply proffesional relationship. Then Specter let out a yawn covering his mouth as he did. Funny he hadn't felt tired when he entered the shop, but now it was as if something was very slowly pulling the energy out of him. It was probably just the fact that the place was stuffy.
Lee watched as the man slowly brought things over to the counter, a small pile growing there. Honestly, this was the most she had seen anyone actually buy in the shop, and Lee was a little surprised; when she and Tarin had started stocking things like that in the shop, even she hadn't thought they'd sell as much as this man seemed to want to buy.
And, based on what the man had just said about Tarin's 'interesting talent', Lee knew that her first thought that he had exposed his powers was most likely the correct situation. "Yeah, he also has quite a talent for not knowing when to keep his mouth closed," Lee grumbled, mostly to herself, as she started going through the pile of merchandise and ringing it into the register.
"Well, I think Tarin will be back soon, if you wanted to wait," Lee told the man as she finished ringing in the items. "Not entirely sure, though. He had a few things he said he had to do, and I'm not sure exactly how long it'll all take." That said, Lee then told him the grand total for his purchase.
Specter watched as the woman rang up his items. By her actions he could tell that this was the most buisness she had seen in a while, but then Specter had a lot of space to fill. Her way of speaking about Tarin made Specter even more convinced that there was something between them. However Specter didn't care for her tone as she spoke about him. Their mutant powers where a part of who they where. To hide that fact was to give in to the weak, and cowardly. Even though he didn't know much about the registration act Specter understood that people where afried. Still to give into fear was to let the enemy win. "And what would you wish? For him to hide himself, be less than what he was?" Specter's eyes began to glow as he unleshed a part of his power. "I find refreshing he does not hide. He knows himself, and uses gift how he can. Why should we suffer fools? They have not power so they fear. They have not strength so they weaken. Act happened, yes? Act still happen if we are fearfull."
As the man spoke, all Lee could do was blink at him. He was getting upset about what she was saying about Tarin because he had revealed himself as a mutant, again, to a person he had just met?
What did she wish Tarin would do? It didn't matter what she wished, she wasn't about to tell this man here, despite what he was saying to her. Still, she couldn't stop herself from saying something. "Not to be less, but at least more careful."
That wasn't all this man said, he thought that since they were mutants, they shouldn't bother hiding what they were. Had he not had to deal with the Act, was he not around through the Stalkers? Though, based on his accent, maybe he hadn't..
Leaning closer to the man, her hand resting on the counter in front of her, Lee glared. "They may not have abilities like mutants do, and they might be scared, but that doesn't mean they don't have power. If you ever felt a collar around your neck, you'd know, believe me."
Specter held up his hand palm to the ceiling infront of the womans face, but not so close to be intimadating as he created an ecto ball. "You think this is power? This is nothing. It is part of me, but not me. If I had collar I would still have strength, still have skill, and I would still fight. Power is not beating someone. Power is showing better. We fight, we always fight, through history we fight, in future we fight. We do not fight we lose. It is only way." Specter could tell that the registration act was a touchy issue for this woman. If he had to guess ether she, or Tarin, or both had been a part of it on the wrong in. He also understood that alot of mutants where scared about being what they where, but nothing was going to ever change unless somebody made them. It wasn't like he wanted to over throw the humans as the new dominate life form or anything. It was just that he knew his kind would never be fully excepted, and felt that they should be ready to defend themselves. Not just as mutants, but as people. He had ment what he said his powers didn't make him who he was. With out them he was still Marcus Ravenous, and even though he knew very little of who that person was he did know that being a mutant was only a part of it. Specter doused the ecto ball while letting out a sigh. He had gotten to worked up over the matter. After all he could tell that she was saying what she had said because she worried about Tarin. "It does not matter, however I showed powers first."
Lee flinched back slightly, no longer leaning over the counter toward the man, as what looked like flames appeared over his outstretched hand.
"And there's a good and bad way to fight," Lee pointed out. "Exposing what we are to every random person to pass by isn't the right way. It doesn't matter if we're better than them, a group of scared humans can still easily kill us."
The man seemed to have calmed down a bit from his little rant. Lee was slower to calm, though the fact that he said he showed his powers before Tarin had did take a bit of wind out of her sails. If that were true, at least Tarin had known he was dealing with another mutant. Still, she couldn't help but worry that he told too many people far too readily. She'd still have to have a bit of a talk with Tarin when he got back.
"So," she ended up saying. "Did you want to actually buy this stuff, or just keep fighting about how you believe I should think about the man I love?"
Glancing at the total on the regester display Specter pulled out his wallet and began counting out his money. He found it funny that the woman had openly admited her love for Tarin. Up until that point she had seemed more of the caring sister, or close friend. Specter wondered if she had even realized what she was saying at the moment. Of course Tarin's love life was no buisness of his, nor did Specter care to make it his buisness. Handing over the money Specter waited for his change while cooling his head from the whole ordeal. "Tarin is good man. I should not have blown up so. I have yet to introduce. My name is Marcus Ravenous, if you like I go also by Specter." Specter hoped she wasn't to upset with his actions, and except this attempt at a peace offering. He really need to learn to control his temper. It was something he knew would get him into trouble more often than not, if it hadn't already.
Lee didn't even realize the words she had said about Tarin, and her feelings for him, until after they were out of her mouth. Here she was, not even really willing to tell Tarin this because he'd push even harder to get back together if she really cared about him that much. She wasn't ready for that, didn't know if she really wanted that, despite her feelings.
He handed over the money for what he was buying, and Lee turned toward the register once again to grab change. But then the man was polite once again, introducing himself to her. At least he didn't hold his hand out to shake as he introduced himself.
Extending her hand herself, Lee carefully passed the change back, making sure not to actually touch Marcus. "Lee," she said simply in introduction.
Taking back his change Specter raised an eyebrow as Lee introduced herself with a boy's name. She really didn't strike him as a Lee, but then what sort of judge was he when it came to names? Well the most important thing was that she didn't just kick him out for acting like such an ass. Well Specter had what he needed, and couldn't really think of any go reason to stay around. Sure he han't been able to talk to Tarin, not like that was a big deal anyhow. Still he felt the trip was work it. He ended up with some intresting stuff to put around his room, met another character in the drama that had become his life, and waisted some time on an other wise lazy day. As Specter put his change back into his wallet he took note of how his funds where starting to dwindle. He would have to be alittle more careful with his money from now on. After all he didn't have a clue how he was going to make an income. He would worry about that later though. Putting his wallet back Specter grabed the bags with his stuff and started for the door. "It has been intersting Lee, maybe we meet again."
